Pretty good portions and food is ready really quickly only took about 12 minutes from ordering. The pad see ew beef wasn't overcooked like some places, which I really appreciate it. Just wish it was a little bit more saucey but overall was still really good. We got the hot papaya salad and had a pretty good cake wasn't too spicy, but needed a little more lime for my taste. Still was really nice to balance the pad see ew. Not sure what to do with that wedge of cabbage. The inside decor was also really cool. read more

*Under NEW OWNERSHIP! Nice friendly service in the old Thailander location offering a whole new menu with some great additions. I started with my favorite "peanut sauce delivery system" of shrimp salad rolls. I love that these are also offered with tofu instead of you are not into shrimp. Hubby ordered his usual crab fried rice with spicy fish sauce. I tried the peanut delight ... I know shocker, another peanut sauce dish lol! They had the roll up door open for a breeze but it was a tad bit on the warm side today so I cooled off with a Sweet Thai lemon Iced tea. Ice cold water was brought to the table promptly when we were seated and much appreciated. Glad to know we have another great Thai spot close to home. We look forward to visiting again real soon. I have long been a big fan of Esan, dating back to when they had a location two block from my downtown Portland office. When it closed, much sadness. But, I've been pleased to seen food trucks/carts popping up around town. Most have the same quality, some do not. So, when this location opened, I was excited (to say the least). Tonight, my wife and I ordered takeout. I had Chicken Pad Thai. She had Beef Pineapple Fried Rice. We were very happy they offered easy gluten free options. Mine tasted really good (but not like my old work location). My wife stated her's was a little bland (that could've been the GF preparation or her "no spice" selection). Either way, we were very happy with our dinner choice and look forward to trying more from the menu. Speaking of takeout, the online ordering was VERY easy. read more

Very cute newly opened Thai restaurant. Service was fast and friendly. The pepper shrimp were delicious. They had a kick of spice, but not too much. They also came with battered onions, mushrooms, and jalapeños. I would definitely do that dish again. The salad shrimp rolls were fresh and crisp, but it was really hard to find any substantial shrimp in them. Overall a great lunch spot and I'd definitely go back to try other dishes. read more

Got take out on NewYears eve. The good was the workers were very hospitable and let us order even though they were closing early in 30 minutes. Food was ready very quickly. Food looked and smelled delicious. The egg rolls were tasty. The vegetables were cooked perfectly as was the noodles. The down side there really wasn't any flavor to them, bland. And the curry was all spice and no flavor. So disappointed because I was really looking forward to trying this local Place. Maybe they are better on non holidays if you want to try them. This is our 6th or 7th time eating here. Sometimes to go. And sometimes to dine in. All their food is delicious. Pork fried rice, Pot stickers, Crab wontons, Chicken & veggies, yakisoba, and Pad Thai have all been fantastic! I would give a warning about the spicy levels. Be very specific on what level of spice you want. Our Pad Thai yesterday was On-Fire. But that was our fault for not being specific enough when saying Spicy! The service is great! I think its family owned and run, which we always love to see. The atmosphere is cozy, and has a roll up garage door for nice weather. read more

Sorry I should taken a photo before I ate but it's very good so had to start eating right away. This chain has served in my opinion one of the best Thai food around the Portland Metro. Completely underwhelmed and wonder what brings in such high ratings. Our green curry was salty with overcooked veg and lacking any of the bright flavors I enjoy from Thai food. Noodle dish again with over cooked veg and lacking any of flavor. Must have run out of key ingredients as it was basically rice noodle flavor in a sloppy presentation. The dining area isn't very inviting and the decor is a mishmash of stuff that is I'll guess very personal to the owner, bit like a Thai TGIFridays. Wow! I've been trying all the local Thai places and finding myself very disappointed. Sean was one we hadn't tried--so glad we did! The service was excellent and our server attended to details and was very sweet! Now to the food...we started with crab puffs and curry puffs. Both were handmade and fried perfectly. The curry puffs were light, flaky, and delicious! We also had yellow curry and Penang curry. Both were delicious and well made. The sauces were the perfect amount of heat that we ordered. This will now be my go to for Thai food! Also the dining room was nice and cool, especially with the garage door open. Cute decor! read more

I can't begin to say enough about Esan Thai. Such a great ambience...and the food is what you'd come to expect if you've been to any of their other locations. It's easy to tell they take great pride in preparing every dish just perfectly. The Curry Puffs were a real treat to kick off as an appetizer. And I typically go with the Red Curry or Evil Prince. Yet, there's a lot of really unique dishes. The staff is always on point, sweet, kind, and do their best to ensure a positive dining experience. The decor makes you feel as if you've been transported to Thailand itself. Give it a try...I'm confident you'll find yourself coming back again and again. read more

We used to love the original Thailander and were excited that it reopened. But when we visited, we noticed the entire staff and kitchen team had changed. Although the menu remained the same, the food and service did not. The restaurant has since updated to its new name. We asked about the ingredients in a few dishes (cashew chicken and the curry), and made specific requests to leave certain items out. Despite this, our meals arrived with exactly those ingredients included, along with several other filler ingredients that weren't listed on the menu, some of which we were told the restaurant didn't use, nor are they traditionally used in our dishes. These extra ingredients completely threw off the flavor and were disappointing. When we called to let the manager know, the owner offered us credit for the meal. However, she never took our names or sent any confirmation. When my wife asked how they'd remember us, the owner claimed she'd "remember us personally" since she's there all the time. My wife asked for her name, just in case. Five days later, I called to reorder but no one knew who we were, and there was no record of our food issue nor our offer. To make matters worse, when I mentioned the owner's name, I was told no one by that name worked there. At this point, we don't even care about the replacement meal. We won't be returning. It's disappointing they could mess up a basic order so badly and fail to keep a simple customer service record. Honestly, I'm just sad the original Thailander is gone, it used to be our favorite restaurant and was right next door to us. read more

A friend of mine, a die-hard fan of Esan Thai since its humble beginnings as a food cart in downtown Portland, recommended this place to me. It's a charming spot with incredibly friendly staff. Came recommended and boy were we disappointed. First off, their number on website does not match the number at the restaurant. Looked like we ended up ordering from another Thai restaurant! We ended up going in to correct everything but the lady was absolutely confused. She didn't understand the situation as we explained. Address was correct, but they had two numbers. Not good! We ordered to go and the food was not very good at all. Papaya salad literally had no taste, curry had waaaaaay too much sugar, larb was salty and fried rolls had very little filling.
