This is a great place to go if you're looking to get in and out. They are so busy that they rush each individual and your nails will look AWFUL. The first time my friend begged me to go back because she was appalled I spent $50 on my nails. My sister asked if I did them myself because they were so bad. I thought maybe it was a fluke so I went back, I left and went somewhere else immediately to get them fixed. Went in for a pedi/mani. It was nice to be offered a water on a hot summer day. No complaints with the pedi, it was great to see him unwrap new tools only for me. I also got a shellac manicure which turned out well but chipped a bit faster than I expected ( one nail after 4 days). Granted, I clean a lot and work with my hands but I've had shellac form other salons last 3-4 days longer without any chips. My only complaint is the timers. During both mani/pedi timers were going off all over the salon every few minutes. I guess an employee said the manager is having them use them to stay on time. But I found it very stressful and it took away from the experience of relaxing during my visit. Nix the timers, experienced employees can stay on time just fine. I have only been to happy nails in kalamazoo, and I would choose escape over there. But I may still look around for the perfect place for me. read more

The pedicure was great, but the lady that did my nails was rushed and they look awful. For paying $55 for a full set, they are lumpy and thick. I won't blame her for the crookedness on some because I bit my nails, but the shape is very very poor. I had to leave quickly, so once I looked at them after I left I was extremely disappointed. I love this place, Gabby and Julie do amazing nails. My big complaint is they are horrible with scheduling! I get when you are busy it's hard to stay on top of it but when someone makes an appointment you should keep that time. It's not okay when someone sets an appointment and you make them wait 40 plus minutes after their set time. Then when you ask the receptionist what's the wait for your appointment and she says you're going to be with the next open nail tech and others go before you, that seems unreasonable. I come here every time I get my nails done, only ever gotten shellac and I'm always so in love! Whether they are busy or not i feel like I'm being treated as a valued customer! The first time I went to escape I had a fine experience. Today, I went back to get a fill and color change and was disappointed. I asked for a quick file on my nails to shorten them just a bit. The technician shortened them to a good length and asked if I was happy with the length. I said yes but he then proceeded to shave off half the length he just asked me about. There is barely a tip left at all and most of my nails are uneven. Also, there was gel all over my fingertips that he just left on. The polish was also poorly done. It seemed to me like he just wanted to be done with my nails before he even started. I won't be going back. read more

My wife had a terrible experience. She made an appointment but was then made to wait 45 minutes. She had cold water during pedicure because the woman left to talk on her cell phone for 5 minutes. There was a broken table attachment on the chair she was sitting in so she had to hold her purse the whole time. And there was a very strong chemical smell. I got an elderly woman with short hair not sure her name, my nails are shaped horrible glue all over, I had to go home and file them for them to even somewhat look right. A friend recommended getting my nails done here and to say I was disappointed was an understatement. Krystina was beyond rude and offensive, asking very inappropriate questions about religion. Even bringing up the topic of the holocaust never existing simply because I was wearing a religious symbol on my necklace. I told her that I was confused on why she was saying such comments and she simply responded with "well I guess we'll just talk about the weather!" (Ironically, my grandmother is a holocaust survivor) And proceeded with a condescending smirk. Never have I felt so uncomfortable and offended by a stranger. For the first time, I felt the need to walk out of a nail appointment. Not only was she making inappropriate comments to me, but also to others. It was very apparent that the two women next to me felt uncomfortable as well. The interesting part is that the owner was sitting right near us and did not interject! I called to complain a couple days later and with just saying my name he knew exactly who I was. He said he remembered the conversation and agreed that her behavior was very offensive. I'm not sure why he allowed the behavior to continue or why he didn't pull me aside to apologize. Not only was Krystina offensive but my shellac chipped after a day. I'm still in shock by the situation and have been thinking about it each day since it happened two weeks ago. All in all, I HIGHLY recommend going to a different salon! read more

The service I received wasn't bad. I've been a few times and usually I feel rushed. The facility is pretty close quarters and crammed. And the last time I went was my LAST time because it wasn't as clean as it had been previously. The staff is usually yelling at each other and there is a woman who works the front who is usually rude to the employees and unprofessional and argues with them and rolls her eyes a lot at them. My nails were chipping within days of getting them done. I ended up soaking it off after just barely a week (shellac is supposed to last at least two weeks). The language barrier is something I can get over however when they didnt understand something and got angry I decided I was done. I took my bridal party of 6 there the day before my wedding. My mother decided to pay for everyone's nails and told them just to tip. Pretty amazing of her really- however when one of the older technicians pulled her aside and starting scolding her for not tipping. She repeatedly say she wasn't tipping we were (since we all had different people) finally the woman was yelling "you no tip" and people began to stare... I have been going to this salon for over a year and I am usually satisfied with the outcome of my shellac manicures. Ever since they remolded and got the DND nail polish my shellac manicures never last anymore. The nail polish is crap and starts to chip and pull up on the edges after a couple days. I got my nails done on a Thursday, my nails started to chip on Saturday so I went back on Monday for them to fix them, and all the nail polish is off by the following Wednesday because the polish wasn't lasting. I am disappointed because I do like this salon, but won't be returning because I can't keep spending $25 for my shellac manicure to last maybe last a week. read more

So this used to be go-to nail salon, but my last experience was terrible. If I could rate them as a negative I would. I had a pedicure and shellac manicure. The pedicure was okay. The gentleman doing it didn't talk the whole time. Didn't ask what kind I wanted, just went ahead and did it. Which was fine. My shellac manicure was one of the worst I've ever had. He didn't even get the polish close to my cuticles and it looks weeks old (it is only 3 days). It has already chipped. I called to ask what they could do and they told me to come in and "they'd see what they could do". FIX IT is what you can do. I am sitting here soaking my big toe in Epsom salts due to an infection from my pedicure I received here last week. The technician cut, sliced actually, the skin along the side of the nail bed. My nails looked beautiful at the time, and still do. But the side of my toe is puffy, swollen and oozing. I hope it heals and I don't have to pay a doctors visit for this infection! read more

My regular place wasn't open one day during the holidays so I decided to go to Escape for a shellac/no-chip and it was the worst shellac I've ever had (and I get a shellac every two weeks). Not only was I in-and-out in less than 30 minutes (which is impossible if you're doing every step of the process), but I was with three different nail technicians at three different tables! On top of that, they didn't use a base coat and one of the three women cut my nails when I asked her not to. Of course, half of my set was all chipped and broken within a week. Eager to find a salon for a reasonably-priced pedicure in Kalamazoo (I've been paying $45 at another salon) I turned to Yelp and was excited to read the previous reviews about Escape. While I have had negative experiences at other budget salons, I felt optimistic and decided to give this one a try. I agree with the other reviewers' references to Escape's attractive environment. It is indeed far more attractive than many of the other budget nail salons in Kalamazoo and the staff is welcoming with complimentary bottled water and beverages. The salon is also large enough to accommodate a large clientele base. Unfortunately, my actual pedicure experience was terribly unpleasant. Sure, my nails looked fine by the end but my cuticles and surrounding tissue were cut and bleeding. I left with three large cuts that did not heal for well over a week; in fact, I couldn't wear closed-toe shoes for that same amount of time. While I have had several nail techs cut me before at other budget salons, I have never experienced any as deep or as long-lasting as these. On the contrary: good (and well-trained) nail techs will never cut someone in a desperate attempt at cuticle removal but are instead focused on the actual health of the nail and can remove the excess cuticle without inflicting damage. While I chose Escape based on the other reviews, I will never return. I do not believe some of the nail techs know what they're doing; indeed I question their training and licensing. The relatively inexpensive price ($25) is definitely not worth the associated pain or the risk of infection. read more

I come here often because it close to my house and the techs do a great job. However I advise everyone to avoid being service by nail tech Nicole. She is very rude. I do not cut down my nails when getting a full set. She refused to deliver the service I requested because her opinion was that what I wanted was ugly. I did not ask for her opinion but she felt the need to supply it anyway. Since I was unwilling to have my nails done the way she wanted to do them she passed me off to another tech. I don't write reviews often but feel compelled to for Escape Nails and my favorite technician, Tommy. I live on the opposite side of town, driving by several salon options to get to Escape. I used to Groupon or drop in wherever to have my nails done but now am dedicated to Escape & Tommy in particular. He always makes sure I am happy w/ his work as he proceeds and understands the particular way I like my nails done. Specialized customer service in a busy salon is hard to find. Tommy & the rest of the staff has always been friendly and happy. The spa facility is pretty clean and has several chairs for mani's & pedis so little wait time. BTW, Susan is great too! I went with a friend to get pedicures. We got there at 2:47 and were told the wait would be 30 minutes so we wrote our names down on the list with phone numbers and the service we wanted (pedicures for each of us) and sat down. The receptionist was extremely flustered and couldn't seem to keep any of the appointments straight. We waited for an hour and then watched them take another couple that arrived 30 minutes after us back to the pedicure chairs and were then told they were ready for us. They motioned to the manicure table for us and we said we were waiting for pedicures. They told us the receptionist got our request wrong and that they would get pedicure chairs started for us right away. They brought us back to the chairs and we waited another 20 minutes before someone came over to us. They started on my friend and I continued to wait with my feet in the water. She was about halfway done and we asked how long it would be before they could start on me as well. Every time we asked they responded with "oh just a few more minutes". She was completely done before anyone came to help me. When they got her out of her chair I got up to leave as well. They apologized and asked if I would like to make an appointment for another day. I responded with no and started to walk out the door and they called me back and handed me a gift card which was very nice of them considering I waited for almost 2 hours without being helped. The gift card turned out to be for $10 which isn't even half of the price of a pedicure. We got back into our car at 4:27 making the total wait time 1 hour and 40 minutes. I have always had fantastic service here! If you can, call ahead and request Tommy or Susan! I get regular acrylic/gel manicures with Tommy, and I won't go anywhere else. Tommy takes his time and focuses on the details, leaving me with beautifully manicured nails EVERY time. I also have several friends who see Susan, and they have RAVE reviews of her work as well. Walk-ins will often be seated with whomever is available at that time -- so if you have your nails done by another nail tech and are pleased with their work, be sure to request them next time. From my experience, Escape's nail techs are friendly and enjoy building relationships with repeat customers. Well worth the visit!
