My friends and I did the escape room called Before Moonrise, where the objective is to escape before a Werewolf gets to you, of course, set in a log cabin. The ambiance of the room was extraordinary, and the technology used within the room was mind-blowingly awesome. The puzzle design was super cool and was designed such that there are some extra puzzles for you to do if you have the time, but you wouldn't ever know it! The creativity involved in the room was spectacular and unique as the hint system involved a rotary phone with pre-loaded clues, and the timer system was also extremely creative in telling you just how much time you had left, while making it increasingly more obvious and ominous that you are running out of time. The absolute best part was the ending, which was one of the most amazing, immersive, and unique endings I have ever experienced during an escape room. I won't tell you what it is of course...you'll have to find out for yourself! If you're in the area, take the hour to try this escape room, and if not this one, try one of their other awesome rooms. We did the workshop (4 person room) and had a great time, except that we didn't succeed. A major reason for this was that a piece of electrical equipment in the room needed to solve a problem was not working properly, and we lost half our time in the room because of that. Assuming they can get the kinks worked out with the electronics, this would deserve 5 stars. read more

So much fun! We first tried the studio. We got outs, but only by breaking a lock off the wall. So that didn't count :( We came back a few weeks later and tried the workshop. Really fun -- Did the art studio escape room; very creative and a ton of puzzles to solve in 60 minutes. Granted, my group set the record of 39 minutes, but the average is 20% success and the ones who were successful beat it just under 60 minutes. Will definitely be coming back to do the other rooms. We did this as a family over our Christmas break. We have a wide range of ages of kids and everyone had a great time. The facility was really clean, in great-shape, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. We played "the gallery." The clues were the perfect balance of challenging yet able to be solved. It took us about an hour and was a great time together as a family. I've been to another escape room in CT and enjoyed this one more. A real life version of a Hidden Object Game! Find the clue, solve the puzzle, which in turn leads you to the next clue! 4 friends and 4 strangers came together in an attempt to escape, which didn't happen, but we had a great time trying!! It's a bit expensive, but a great way for a small group to do something different and fun. Basically, you get trapped in a room and given clues to get out. They have a lot of lock and keys, which is a little too repetitive, but the other clues are really fun. I like that everyone in the group can work together or even alone to achieve a goal. read more

Awesome experience! If you've never been to an escape type place, you should definitely give it a try. Just bring trusted friends, come with a plan, or not, and, if you're stuck, regroup! Can't compare it to other escape type places, but I've been in all 3 rooms at Escape New Haven, and they rocked! The assortment of puzzles is great, and very accessible- you really don't need to be a geek, dork or engineer to solve them, so don't be intimidated! Of the 3 rooms, the library and the studio (which is being changed into a different puzzle currently) are meant for bigger groups, while the workshop is meant for up to 4 people. Some puzzles are not a surefire to work exactly how they were intended to, and at times it gets frustrating, as another reviewer mentioned. Even so, I still gave the place 5 stars for the overall great experience! Just keep trying until you get it! And, lastly, you're paying money to be entertained, you should leave there very happy. I can see how everyone wants to actually make it out of the room, but hey, sh*t happens. Really, just have fun! Someone set up all these cool little puzzles around a themed room for YOU- and they do a great job setting them up again and again, for each and every group; bring your best sherlock game and slay those clues! NB: their new policy is to start the clock at the designated time, whether everyone is there or not. Make sure even the incompetent friend gets there with 10 minutes to spare (you have to sign waivers and there are instructions to be given), just to not add to the stress of it all. read more

Escape New Haven is a new gem in New Haven that is definitely worth checking out. It is the perfect activity to do with friends or strangers. I did "Escape the Studio" with 8 other people. You get to think outside the box while working as a team to solve a range of puzzles. The puzzles are extremely creative and just the right level of difficulty to keep you thinking on your feet for the entire hour! You will not be bored and will definitely be challenged. I have done many escape the rooms. New Haven is Excellent. They have three-four rooms. I didn't find there to be a great difference in difficulty. However, their Space Room requires more people, a minimum of 5. All rooms have very creative puzzles that involve logic, basic science, and manipulation. The rooms are decorated nicely to theme. Most of the puzzles are clear and fairly linear. The rooms incorporate well-engineered puzzles and high technology. You are allowed three hints in the 60 minute time frame. The staff are fairly enthusiastic. I also found their rooms to be fun playing with strangers. This is because of the cooperative nature of some puzzles. My main disappointment is they have not changed their rooms. I think they have an art stupid one, but this has been used at their Rhode Island location for awhile. I'm guessing they have steady clientele. But other locations have already changed rooms out. Recommendation: Go, you'll enjoy your self. Study: 3 - 4 people Space Station: 5 minimum, more is better if you're not experienced Crypt: 3- 4 people (easiest room) Art Studio: Havent done yet read more

Such a fantastic time. We had a group of 6 in the Library. We didn't get out but we were only about 2 steps from completion when time ran out and we already booked our next visit before we left. Ethan was a great host/gamemaster and the other groups looked like they had just as much fun as us. After the initial disappointment of not succeeding faded, I can't speak highly enough of this as a fun, adventurous activity that's outside the normal routine. Can't wait to go back! This was the most fun I've had in a long time. I went with my 3 best friends to try and escape the library. We didn't make it out but we had a lot of fun. We all were able to contribute in different ways. We can't wait to go back and try the other scenarios. We were all sad when the hour was up, we didn't want to be done! It went really fast. Some of the most fun I've ever had with friends. We did the library with 6 of us and we finished in just a few minutes over the hour time limit they give you. The puzzles were challenging and fun, and we never felt too stuck but nothing was too easy. Tara was a great Operator for our time there. You and your team have 60 minutes to solve the puzzles, unlock the locks and Escape. As someone who's neither competitive nor particularly excited by puzzles, I was skeptical about getting locked in a room for an hour... but it was such a fun way to spend the afternoon! I went to Escape New Haven with my husband and two daughters, 8 & 11. We did the Workshop room. It was really hard but a lot of fun. My suggestions would be that there be more time allotted. One hour for $100 is a lot of money. Plus, we felt so rushed by the time limit that we didn't really feel like we could stop and think some. read more
