A week later, the pump failed entirely. Both the septic guy and the electrician said the pump wasn't installed properly and wasn't the right type of pump to pump up a hill where our leaching fields are. Certainly, a new pump should last more than 2 years. We are now facing the cost of installing a new pump, on top of the sunk cost of $700.

Everything seemed to be in working order, so I didn't anticipate any issues until I received the bill. To my shock, I was charged a whopping $1229 for what should have been a routine installation. When I reached out to JMB to address my concerns, I was met with a series of dismissive responses: Missing Quote: They claimed to have sent me a quote, which I never received. Lack of Communication: They deflected responsibility onto the contractor who recommended them, despite my assumption that pricing would be fair and reasonable. Unjustifiable Pricing: Their insistence on charging a flat rate without considering labor costs left me feeling taken advantage of, especially when other plumbers confirmed that the job should have cost significantly less. Unresponsive Owner: In my business, I would be speaking to the customer about a situation like this - never heard a word In an attempt to rectify the situation, JMB offered me a mere $100 credit toward future services, which did little to address my dissatisfaction. It was an intricate system of pipes and valves and who-knows-what in two rooms on two floors. After the initial conversation with Jay, it was clear we had found the very best plumbing contractor imaginable. He was meticulous in his work, a creative problem-solver, has an encyclopedic knowledge of the art and science of plumbing, and is one of the very best customer service professionals I have ever worked with. At every step of the way, he explained what he was doing and why, worked closely with the general contractor and electrician, cleaned up after himself, and made sure we were 100% satisfied with every element he worked on. The final bathroom is spectacular, and we would never use another plumber. Ever. But Jay deserves even more kudos than that. Most of the times he came to our house over the 5-6 weeks of construction, he brought an apprentice. He was a polite young man, and very eager to learn.
