I came here this last weekend with my boyfriend for our anniversary. Alice in Wonderland is my favorite movie in the world, and this escape room absolutely did it justice. My boyfriend and I were absolutely blown away at the detail put into this room! From the storyline, the puzzles, the decor, to the amazing surprises, we were simply amazed. This was BY FAR the best escape room we have ever done. I wish I could come back and do it again, or simply just walk around and stare at everything! At times, I was simply in awe, and forgot I was trying to escape! To be honest, I wanted to just live in there forever! We did end up escaping, and had the time of our lives in the process. To the designers and owners, I want to say thank you for creating such an incredible, dreamy place. Your attention to detail, decor, and technology was phenomenal. I would give more stars if I could. We had 6 adults for a room scheduled. Amazing, friendly staff. The game (the terminal) was great. Enough of a skill spread for everyone to have fun and collaborate. We had so much fun that we wanted more! We had such a fun night escaping from Alice's Dream! Six of us participated ranging from age 6 to 70's and we all helped solve the puzzles. Jesus was super helpful when we got stuck, giving us just enough info to move forward. This was our second escape room (we also did the Submarine one on Wave Street). We did not solve the Submarine one in time, maybe because we are novices, maybe because we had a little too much to drink, maybe because it was harder than the beginner level it is labeled as. At any rate, Alice's Dream was more fun, in part because we solved it and in part because it's just such a bright and fun layout. Pics afterwards were hilarious and memorable. read more

We had an amazing time doing submergency. My husband and I did it alone (just the two of us) and made it out with 5 minutes left. We needed four or five clues, which were very helpful. Room had some awesome and very unique puzzles. It was very high production quality. We had done 7 or 8 escape rooms previously, but always in a larger group. Jesus was very helpful and enthusiastic. Staff was super friendly, and I'm sure if you've never done an escape room it would be a great experience but we've done 10 different rooms across the country and Spellbound was pretty subpar. We escaped in half the time and the puzzles were pretty weak. We actually ended up escaping by mistake and didn't even solve a couple of puzzles. DO NOT do Spellbound with more than like, 2 people. Extremely well made, fun rooms and the staff is 10/10. The owners let us take our dog into the room, which after some conversation we learned is something they allow all the time.. so we ended up doing all 3 of their games (at the Oscars Playground location) in less then 24 hours. My boyfriend and I love playing rooms when we travel out of town. We have now completed 5 rooms at the different locations escape room 831 has in Monterey - Cannery Row area and each time has been a wonderful experience. The Alice and Wonderland was definitely a favourite as far as decor and theme go. Their Christmas Story room is themed after the movie, so if you are a fan of the movie you'll appreciate that room for sure. :) highly recommend! We were trying this place from out of town and had hit traffic on our way there so we called the place and the owner was very understanding. He was very accommodating to this unforeseen circumstance because he offered to let us do the escape room at a different time even though it was a different escape room we had no complaints because we were just happy to still be able to enjoy a game. We appreciate owners like this who understand that there are some events that are just out of our hands and try to work things out for the customer even though he didn't have to. read more

What a RUSH!!!! Alice's Dream escape kept my group up until the wee hours of the morning talking and reviewing our experience. We wished we did an earlier time slot rather than the last 930pm so we could've done back to back!! Growing up in Salinas, I would always come to Monterey when I couldn't find anything to do. Man how I wished escape rooms were around in the 90s and early 00s!! I live in SoCal now and definitely couldn't wait to try escapes back at home, and I am overjoyed that Escape Room 831 was my first in the area! The owners Barrie and Christina are amazing, kind and humble. They were thoughtful in constructing their rooms. The whole theme and storyline in Alice's Dream were truly immersive. The in game experience was beyond wonderful, with Barrie as the gamemaster, he definitely entertained us while aiding us when needed! So come through y'all!! We visit the Monterey area every year for two weeks in July. This is the first time we have done an escape room here. The main review here is Christina one of the owners was willing to go above and beyond to make sure our visit was memorable. The staff was amazing and the room that we chose (Innocent) was awesome. Just played "Alice's dream" and hands down it's one the best rooms I've ever played. I've played 40+ escape rooms, mostly in SF Bay Area, sacramento and LA, so not so easy to impress. Production value is on point. Every little detail is thought through. Super immersive, highly interactive, beautiful design and story! Puzzles were witty with a bunch of cool wow effects. Great for friends or family activity. Perhaps around 4-6 people is an ideal size. Definitely recommend!!! read more

Sooooo fun! We chose Alice's Dream. It was our first time maneuvering an escape room. There were 5 of us there for a 21st birthday celebration. It did not disappoint. We were all laughing and holding our breath at times in anticipation of figuring out the clues. The rooms were colorful & clever. It took us about an hour to go through the different rooms. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I just recently went to an escape room and it was almost too easy- this room was the perfect level of difficulty and we took the whole time to enjoy. We were stumped, several times. Our game master, Cole, gave the room a whole extra layer of fun with witty clues and hints. He also gave us a run down of some of the theories behind the story and easter eggs we missed! Can't recommend this place enough. We will be back to escape again! read more

Ok, where to start?!? We decided to do a last minute Escape room for my teen son's birthday. Most of them were all booked. We decided to book the 'Mystical Manor'. Our first time doing an escape room, so I was a bit nervous because it was deemed more difficult then the beginner one. My husband had a hard time parking but the manager or owner was so nice. He had the rest of us wait in the large sitting area, complete with tic-tac-toe and connect four. He offered to let us park at their sister property, but my husband was finally able to get a spot. I know that they need to stay on schedule but he never rushed us or made us feel bad for not all being there at the same time. The guide was so sweet and explained the game to us. My son opted not to be given clues at all. He loves puzzles and this is right up his alley. The guide mentioned that likelihood of escaping were slim. He still wanted that challenge. What an awesome experience we had. We were able to escape with no clues and had 20 minutes to spare. There were four of us. My husband and two sons. We had a great time working together to solve the puzzles. Was it super easy? No. Was it super hard? No, but it challenged us, even my son who loves this type of stuff. Anyway, we're so glad we finally tried it. We can't wait to go back! Thanks to the team at Oscar's playground. read more

The actual escape was amazing and so much fun. Me and 3 of my friends went to 4 of us in total and it was a lot of fun for us all. I would give it a 5 star but the online booking website is very glitchy. I opened the website via maps and was starting to book a time but after I pressed the time and before I actually purchased the room, I accidentally closed out of the tab. When closing out of the tab it showed that the time I chose was already booked even though no body paid for it. I did this 3 more times to see if it would happen again and maybe somebody just booked it while I closed the tab. Unfortunately the next 3 times it "booked" the rooms even though they were not paid for. I realized and made sure to stay on the page the whole time and eventually got the room but it was at a different time than we planned. It still worked it out great! Also nobody picked up the phone when I called 4 times at each location. I'm sure there just attending to the customers in the room and making sure there watching to help them out. Visited on 7/12. My BFF and I are regular strategy game players and enjoy visiting escape rooms as our go-to date. This one is one of our favorites so far. We were wanting to do the Alice room, but it was booked, and ended up in Time Machine. Blast back to 1992, it was pretty awesome. Facility was clean, staff was nice, and directions were clear. We love that it incorporated 4 different rooms within the escape room activity. We were hesitant to sign up for the room Terminal, as it had an older age requirement and extra extreme warnings online. Neither I or my BFF wanted to be locked in a box or handcuffed or blindfolded or tortured, and the waiver made us feel like we were going to be, so we did not. According to our Game Leader, it's just harder. Maybe we'll try next time (well, after Alice). Also, great ending photo, super clever. read more

We had a great time in Alice's Dream room! This was my first time doing an escape room, but my friends had done several before, and we all really liked it. The set was very fun and whimsical, and the pace was great. Our game master was funny and personable and chimed in at all the right times. We would definitely try out a different room at this facility another time. (Due to COVID, we were instructed to wash our hands before entering the room and wear masks during the entire experience.) read more

What a great experience! Have been to many escape rooms and this one is awesome. Very cool waiting area where you can play games and solve riddles while you wait. Once inside the game the decor is super cool and the staff helped as much or as little as you want. $30 a person so the pricing is really reasonable. When you're done you can take cool pics where it looks like you're hanging upside down. Staff was so friendly, parking is ample and we were able to get a last minute booking. read more

I brought my family here for my parents' and little sister's first time doing an escape room and we all had an incredible time! I was always worried my parents might get frustrated or not really understand what's going on but Alice's Dream is really family friendly and great for all levels. Barry and his wife did such an amazing job into the production of the escape room - it really felt like we were in Alice's dream from Alice in Wonderland! I will say that nothing is actually frightening but I did scream multiple times when things would open up but that's just me being me LOL I would 100% recommend this place to everyone! read more

This is a cool place. It is such a unique and creatively decorated space- the details really draw you in. We arrived the 15 minutes early as you are supposed to and were greeted by the owner. She was super friendly, energetic and you could tell that this place was a passion project for her and her husband. She chatted us up about their business and we could tell that a lot of planning went into the whole thing. A few minutes later her husband and our game master walked us through our scenario for "Spellbound". My hubby and I were the only two slotted for this spot. That was a good thing since others were supposed to be with us and the room was a small space. I am glad we didn't have other people in there or we would have been a bit crammed. The room was neat. It had a good combination of technology, quirkiness, puzzles and good old need for attention to details. We have done about 10 escape rooms between us before this one and it was thoughtfully created and a good level of difficulty. We made it out with 4 minutes to go too! We booked our Escape Room experience this afternoon; we chose Alice's Dream. We had so much fun! I love the setup in each room - super cute! Totally Alice in Wonderland theme. We find the puzzles & riddles challenging. You don't have to know anything about Alice in Wonderland to solve the puzzles. Christina was super nice & friendly;she gave us clues to help us move along & not get stuck. She said she does not penalize us if we ask for help; what matters is we have fun. We would come back here again & try out other escape rooms. And their restrooms are super clean which is important to me & what I always like in a business. read more
