Booked scarlet haunting for 2 on a weekday night. We called to let them know we were going to be a few minutes late. Parking at the park was free after 6pm and only took like 3 minutes to walk to the escape room. The GM was waiting to let us into the building and up the stairs. Long was our GM who explained the types of locks you might encounter, shouldn't take more than 2 fingers of touch to open, don't stand on furniture, etc. They had two bathrooms to use and also offered us hand sanitizer and gloves to use. Long did explain there may or may not be a live actor - part of the thrill factor in not knowing. We thought the room flowed well and we escaped with 6 mins left and only used one hint. I'm not a fan of spooky but this was fine since I had a friend with me. I actually thought this element was a nice touch to the whole pressure of escaping within the hour. The room wasn't lock heavy which is nice and had some unique puzzles. Atmosphere of the room added to the spookiness, especially the very dim lighting. One thing my friend and I did mention to the GM was their waiver form had the old name of the room still. Also unless we missed it but we felt like we didn't get an ending to the storyline. My boyfriend and I did the Spooked Haunting Room. This is the second escape room for my boyfriend and I've done 15+ escape rooms up and down California. It was a fun experience, but you can definitely tell that this was a new business. Starting off with the booking process. I was kicked out during the payment step and when I went to start again the room was FULLY BOOKED. So I had to call Get Away Games to confirm that I had booked it. Robbie was very accommodating and said it was totally okay to just pay for the room in person, and they reserved the room for me and my party. A couple hours later I get an email from them stating that the booking was incomplete and to finish it but clicking this link (the link lead me to a page not found screen). I was confused because I was just on the phone with them earlier and they said everything was clear. I called Get Away Games again to inform them of the email and Robbie said to try and complete it on the link, but it's still reserved for me and my party. I attempted to complete the booking online 3x but it's a broken link. We arrived to the Escaperoom early to sign the waivers and go over rules. It does bring up live actors and states that they will touch you, but you can't touch or harm them type thing. With COVID going on, I verbalized to the game master that I wasn't comfortable with someone just touching me at this time, but he just kept saying that he "can't confirm or deny if the actors were going to touch us or if there was any live actors in the room". His answer kinda rubbed me the wrong way because I was genuinely concerned and he didn't seem to care. I understand he was trying to scare us because it is a spooky room. My point was they can scare us just dont touch us, and he didn't get it and just kept saying he can't confirm or deny because he didn't wanna give away the room. It knocked off some points for customer service for me. Moving onto giving us the backstory of the room, it was very vague like it was at most 5 sentences then he throws us into the room. My boyfriend and I start the room. There was a lot of mistakes on their part. We went into an unlocked room and started looking for clues only to have a staff member (who wasn't wearing a mask) tell us "Oh sorry that was suppose to be locked. Yeah come back out here." One of the locks wasn't locked correctly so it left open for us. We turned the lights on and the staff member came back in the room (again no mask) to tell us the lights were suppose to be off the entire time. We laughter it off and we told him we didn't know and he responds the game master was suppose to tell you. The game master definitely did not tell us much. Overall the puzzles were fun. But the story line was BEYOND confusing. It made no sense, I don't know if that's because the game master was super vague in the beginning on both the instructions and the back story. That I didn't enjoy. Cluewise, we didn't use very much because they would just say that's important or like you should look around the room more type thing, but I understand they didn't wanna give the answer away and that was their way of nudging you to the right direction, so we didn't bother talking to them much. At the end of the room, 3 staff members came in to get some feedback from us. They were all so sweet and friendly and great to our comments and concerns. We did let them know about locks that were left open for us and they did confirm that was a mistake on their part. The room definitely was not prepared for us to use. Also, an important thing for me the staff did not wear masks. The game master did, but the other staff members were walking in and out of our room and during the feed back conversation didn't have masks on. Definitely not COVID prepared environment. I give them 3 stars because the room definitely had a scary ambience and I was indeed scared. I personally like an escape room with a good story line and it satisfies me to find out the ending, but that wasn't the case here. The puzzles were entertaining and great ! Staff members were BEYOND nice and sweet, but for this price you can definitely find an escape room else where that's well prepared with a better story line. read more

Done over 25+ escape rooms in the Bay Area. Really enjoyed the Scarlet Haunt room as it had a good balance between puzzles and spookiness. Our GM was very helpful in keeping us on the right track. Have done a good amount of escape rooms all throughout the Bay Area. Came to try out the Scarlet Haunt room and it was great!!! I'm a jumpy person but really enjoy horror themed things and this fit the theme. I was super tense and the anticipation and stress was real (IN A GOOD WAY, OF COURSE). The game masters gave great clues and led us to the right direction when we needed the assistance. If you need a fun spooky season activity then try this one out with your friends/family. As someone who has played over 100 escape rooms, I can safely say that The Scarlet Haunting is the spooky thriller room that that Bay Area needs. Featuring some really good ambiance, great puzzle flow, and a subtly eerie story that that draws from Asian style horror and one of my favorite blacklight puzzles in recent memory this room is well worth its price tag. Those expecting tons of technology will be disappointed as its mainly lock and key however do not let that stop you from sampling this room as a lot of care went into the lighting and sound design presented. They are some generally creepy moments that put us on edge unsure on how to continue and its rather impressive how they got so much out of so little. read more

Long overdue but had my friends and I try their Scarlet Haunting Escape Room a couple weeks back and the experience was amazing! Being a first timer at escape rooms, the creators provided enough background and instruction on what I should expect. The escape room itself was really interesting and really pushed myself and my friends to think and it kept us on our toes the entire hour and a half it took us to finish! Shared some laughs, some scares and ultimately I could say the price was well worth the experience. Left the place fully satisfied and can't wait to recommend this to others! Being local to the Bay, there are few escape rooms so having this in downtown San Jose was very convenient. Can't wait for the future projects of this company! read more
