An awesome birthday surprise for the little brother! We really enjoyed our time at the Escape Room Rhode Island! The women who created us was very helpful and was able to squeeze us in at 1pm since we walked in with no appointment! We used a Groupon and were able to redeem it online so make sure you book a time before you go! We were in The Contraption room and it was pretty cool we did get stuck a couple of times but was given very helpful clues! We would have made it out if not for some hang ups but definitely would recommend! Will definitely have to come back and check out The Heist! read more

I really enjoyed this escape room. I've done 3 others previously, and they've all been slightly different (find a way out/find a final object/multiple rooms vs single, etc). Going into this with the understanding that all escape rooms are different is important. This escape room is a lot of fun! My group of 4 did the Heist and were out in 32 minutes. I am glad the other party of 4 that were also booked for our room didn't show up, because it would have been too easy with more people. In the Heist, you're in a room and solving various clues throughout the room to locate the missing stone. Lots of different puzzles that we had fun solving. The staff member said we could knock on the door if we needed hints, but we didn't end up needing them. read more

The lady who runs the business is super nice. We booked it last minute (an hour in advance) with no problem. My boyfriend and I went in expecting to be grouped with other people but weren't really sure what to expect never coming here before. The other members of our team were awesome and we had a blast! We were able to solve the room with 15 minutes remaining on the timer. Recommend going and trying it out! read more

They accommodated us on short notice and were so kind and welcoming. The puzzles were tricky but intuitive - everything made sense but required some thought, exploration, and teamwork. It was a fun overall experience. Some clues were trial and error which is frustrating. I was under the impression we figure one clue out and go onto the next which isn't the case. We went as a group of 8 and was told to watch a short video that is useless, but provides the goal of your mission. After that everyone scattered and a few of us were left thinking there was something we missed. It turns out some of us had been to other escape rooms and knew to scatter and fill in the blanks as you go. We finished in 28 minutes when we had an hour so we felt shorted. Me and my friend finally tried an escape room for the first time and we went to this location. We did the High Voltage game and we were very nervous at first. It ended up being super fun and interesting and the staff was very friendly helpful explaining how to play. We ended up having a lot of fun with the entire game. Highly recommend checking this place out! read more

Before we even walked in they messed up our schedule and over booked our room and refused to help. Worthless associates - fairly rude and Unaccommodating - lazy as can be, the staff member was sitting and on her phone without looking up at us. Avoid this location as they are incompetent in numerous ways. read more

This was not what I expected. I thought we would have to escape out of the room. Instead we had to solve clues to unlock different boxes. So it was ok but not great. We had some laughs but it was kind of lame. Won't go back to this one. read more

I did "The Contraption" room at Escape Room Rhode Island this past weekend and overall I was left very disappointed with the experience. I have done about 23 escape rooms over 10 different companies, and while I would not return to this company, it was probably the best of the 3 that I would not return to, for what that's worth. Pros: The technology was interesting. The puzzles that were actually puzzles were fun. The backstory was interesting. Cons: 3 of the ~10 "puzzles" were straight up guess and check. 2 of those we needed hints for and afterwards when we asked the puzzlemaster how we should've known he just said "oh just try the combinations". With no hint to what rules they might be in the code (e.g. - Can a number be repeated?). We were only able to solve them in a timely manner with a hint. While the tech was cool, they didn't fit together very organically and felt just like individual parts. This was especially a problem as the room is for up to 10 people and with the individual parts being fairly linear there was a lot of us to standing around one puzzle. Small Issues: The storefront is not straightforward to find, and when i went to where google took us and called the place I was immediately forwarded to the Salem location and the representative didn't know where to go. I prefer paying more money for a room that gives you the entire room, than pay less for a room where you can be put with strangers. Overall: I'm giving this place 2 stars because I think it has potential, and I have done rooms that i disliked even more. I think it is a few additions away from being a much more fun room. But the answer to a puzzle in an escape room being "just try every option" is unforgivable in my mind and because of that I would not return to the this company as it currently stand. read more

My partner and I love escape rooms and have done about 20 and this was by far one of the worst. While the room was outfitted with some tech, it unfortunately didn't use the technologies very effectively. My biggest problem was that two of the ~10 puzzles were just random! We did complete them by essentially getting half of the puzzles as hints, and at the end when we asked the game master how we were supposed to figure those two puzzles out, he shrugged and just said "trial and error." That is not how decent escape rooms are designed, and if we didn't get hints, would have been hundreds of random guesses! There was also a "decoy" puzzle that was useless and also lacked any logic, which I really dislike in escape rooms. Secondly, the room was very linear where you essentially had to work on one puzzle at a time- which can work okay, but not in a 10 person room. This room should at max be a 6 person room so that everyone can see the puzzle since you can only do one thing at a time, which makes me think they're thinking about the money rather than the experience. Overall, the puzzles that actually required logic were uninspired and the room was a big disappointment. I would not go back and would recommend others go elsewhere to see what a satisfying escape room actually looks like. read more

There was way too much guesswork to be done that if you didn't ask for a hint you would never solve it. The tech stuff was really cool and the concept was good but it definitely needed more information to give to the players. Unfortunately one of the worst i have done. read more

The staff at this escape room was very friendly and helpful and generally made check in pleasant. The room itself that we went (The Contraption) to was 2 rooms of puzzles, not connected by a clear narrative and I wasn't sure how or why some of the puzzles were ultimately solved/correct when they worked out. This was one of my least favorite games of all the escape rooms I have done (10+), but I'd go back to Escape Room Rhode Island again to try another before writing it off. Could be that this game was just not my taste, while it could be someone else's. read more

We were thoroughly disappointed with this experience. Many puzzles were simply trial and error and without obtaining hints, virtually impossible to solve. There were a lack of clues and puzzles that helped solve other puzzles. Three of the puzzles didn't work (one completely broken). When asked after how we could have solved some of the puzzles, the person in charge either said trial and error and for one in particular, could not solve it (response was that 90 percent of the time I can't get it to work). That's unacceptable. There are far better rooms out there. I would not suggest spending money or time at this one. You will leave disappointed. read more

Did the contraption room with 5 friends yesterday and we really enjoyed it ! The puzzles were challenging but we felt like with some creative thinking (and optional help from Phil the robot) we were able to put all the pieces that we needed together. The person working was extremely friendly and enthusiastic. We escaped in 45 mins and didn't need to use any of the official alloted "clues"--only used a couple hints along the way. We went in with low expectations based off previous reviews but walked away with a very different opinion! Will definitely be back to try the other room once it opens. read more

We went to the contraption room with four people. Turns out that's a good number for the number of things you have to solve. There is some guess work to solve the puzzles but they can be done. FYI, don't over think things and watch out for red herrings. Lots of fun. I can't wait to try their new room out. read more

Please don't waste your money! This experience is definitely cheaper than other escape rooms, but it wasn't even worth the groupon price. There's no rhyme or reason to the clues and the "robot" tells you what to do. There was no thinking behind any of the puzzles. The best part was the brewery next door. Check out Crooked Current. The woman who owns the place and brews the beer is awesome! read more

We went with the expectation of having a good time. It was like a smack in the face! There were no clues and the room had us just wandering with no idea what to do. Our group has done many escape rooms and by far this is the worst! It was clean and the man at the front desk was friendly. That was the end of the nice things. The only way to get out was to ask for clue after clue. It was pathetic and a waste of our money and our time. I can't even imagine returning to try it again or visiting their new room. I played this game a while back and even now I can clearly remember just how frustrating, confusing, and overall terrible the experience was. First of all, we arrived 10 minutes early only to find they started the game without us, allowing another group booked for the same time into the game where standard protocol usually dictates the two groups be merged. I would have been happier if the experience ended there, however, because once we waited around 40 minutes for the other group to finish we were thrusted into a mindbendingly horrible experience. Around half of the puzzles in the game were based in randomly inputting codes into an assortment of contraptions around the room, which was not explained even when asking for hints (through the hard to hear "robotic head" in the room). We got out with 10 minutes to spare, but it was still a confusing and downright annoying experience. Avoid this game at all cost, and instead go to the several awesome local companies such as The Gate Escape, Lock and Clue, Outside the Box, Mass Escapes, and Roomination. read more
