First escape room I've ever done and man we had fun. We did The Cellar 2, which was great - more like 3 rooms in one, with a great overarching puzzle to tie everything together. Loved the puzzles, the staff was great, and the actor playing Saul especially was fantastic. I went here for a COVID safe birthday party and we all had a blast! I love that we had the whole room to ourselves, that was a really nice feature, especially for the reasonable price of $29/person. Our group had a mix of escape room skill levels, with some people having never done one before and others having done multiple and we all had fun! We were in the Inheritance which had great puzzles and surprise features. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only thing we struggled with was locating Lock & Clue in the building! As a relatively new escape room group, we had nothing but good things to say about our first two experiences at Lock & Clue ! To start, the staff overall were very kind, professional and hilariously entertaining . For each experience , they made sure to play their part to add into the overall immersion and theme of the room . Without spoiling too much , the rooms were relatively dynamic and clever with the kinds of props , puzzles and environment provided. You really need to work as a team and think outside of the box ! The level of skill that is needed to complete these rooms varies based on the theme selected . These different themes and rooms can be found in the actual site . Hints were given in a clever, unique and timely manner, but not so blatant to the point where they were just giving the answers (that wouldn't be much fun if they did ). An hour was given for each experience and it for sure kept us on our toes . A major selling point to me was the fact that they mainly booked privately. So be prepared and assemble a great team ! Awesome and creative rooms! What a great time, if I worked in a corporate office, I definitely recommend this for teambuilding.

Having been to escape rooms in NYC, NJ, PA, and MA. I would say this is my top fave. We were a group of 3 and did Z.E.N Agent and Sorceror's Curse back to back. We were close for both but ran out of time. The Z.E.N room was awesome, both rooms were big and so detailed and realistic. The puzzles were well thought out and connected the story. Game masters were also very professional and entertaining in their character, which made the experience that much better! Can't say anything bad but def want to come back! Tip: they do recommend the rooms with at least 4 to solve smoothly, but we were up for a challenge! read more

We had SO much fun with the Inheritance room. Some of our group was running a little late, and the staff member helping us was so nice and accommodating. We had a group of 7, some newbies and some who have done escape rooms already. It was challenging, fun, creative - we got through it pretty quickly, probably because we had a lot of people. Our hint-giver was great, didn't give away too much and kept with the theme of the room. The lobby/waiting area is really nicely decorated, and they have lockers for your belongings. Lock & Clue is amazing. My team has done multiple rooms here and we will continue to come back! To begin, the staff is full of dedicated, savvy, and personable individuals who are a pleasure to interact with. The gentleman who played Saul when we escaped the cellar was impeccable. The rooms themselves are well thought out and they are only getting better as the staff gains experience. Every one we have done has been a great experience and we leave the venue pleased with ourselves (regardless whether or not we finish) and gushing about certain aspects of the room. The puzzles are clever and challenging, and the hints provided at times are easy to interpret, and are helpful without giving too much away. One aspect that really sets Lock & Clue apart is that all the rooms are private. As long as you purchase tickets for 1/2 of the room, it is all yours. This is not normal for many escape room enterprises, and we appreciate it more than I can really express in words. My team and I are pretty serious about this hobby of ours, and it is significantly less enjoyable when we are forced in a room with strangers. It makes the experience mildly stressful, so I really can't gush enough about how much we love this private room feature that is offered. I honestly have nothing negative to say about Lock & Clue. ESCAPETHEROOMers visited Lock & Clue in Feb 2019. There is a parking lot available and plenty of street parking. They are located inside of a massive factory complex. But if you enter the 1005 Main Street entrance, there are signs leading directly to the door. Once you enter, you can see how spacious their facility is. The lobby/ waiting area has plenty of games & puzzles to keep you busy! There's also a check-in office where you will sign your waivers and register. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. We were fortunate enough to meet w/ the Creative Director & Co-owner to learn more about the company. They currently have 6 rooms available to choose from. One of the rooms was specifically developed for kids (ages 7-12). They also have a party room available for private events. The room that we were recommended to try is their newest one - "The Sorcerer's Curse". The minute that we started our game, we were teleported onto a movie set. The decor of the room was top notch! The level of detail that was incorporated into the set was amazing and the high tech puzzles was outstanding! The one thing that we would suggest is the incorporation of more puzzles. For such a large space there could've been a little bit more to do. My friend wanted to do an escape room for her birthday and she found a Groupon for this place. We did the Green Room. It was really fun and equal Parts challenging and solveable. I've done a few escape rooms in New York, Texas and Florida and I thought this place stood out as a good place. They put time and effort into the room and it's just a fun hour. Had been curious about Escape Rooms, so when the occasion presented itself - I went with it. The staff was extremely friendly and very easy going. The place itself is located on the second floor of the Hope Artiste Village, parking lot across the street or on street parking - if you enter through the side with the ramp you won't see any signs for the business, just enter the building -stairs on the left to second floor and down the hallway. A friend of mine organized this, there were 16 of us total split into 2 rooms. I ended up in the Green Room. Can't say too much, as we ended up not escaping - if only we had 5 more minutes! =) So I'm not giving anything away to help you! This was definitely something different and very interesting and yes you do need that many people in one room. There are just so many things to look for you, 2-3 people will not cut it. I was nervous at first b/c you don't know what to expect but once you get into it, it's a lot of fun! Makes you put your thinking caps on. So I never thought I would do an escape room, due to being mildly claustrophobic... but we did it as a team outing at work and I end up being a great experience! We did Saul's Cellar, which was so well put together by Lock & Clue. I always though you would be stuck in one room, but it was a few rooms with clues hidden in the most ingenious places. And the nice part of doing this as a team is that some people may be good at finding clues and others good at brain teasers... so hopefully you'll make your grand escape. Overall, I definitely would recommend coming here with a group of friends or as an outing for work! read more

Brought two friends here to do their first escape room this weekend, and they got hooked! We actually ended up doing a second room the same day. The main selling point that made me pick this location over others was the private bookings. You only need to buy half the tickets for a room to make it private for yourself. Every staff member we met that day was super friendly and made the whole experience great. I've done about 25 escape rooms in different cities, and there were some touches I really appreciated about this one. The game masters get into character (and even costume!) when they start you off and whenever they need to interact with you for clues. The Green Room was a great intro for beginners--more about exploring and finding things. The Inheritance got a little more cerebral with its puzzles, which I like. Both had a lot of nice surprises. I enjoyed the Inheritance room a bit more, but it was the intermediate level room, while the Green Room is beginner, so that makes sense. We've heard amazing things about Lock & Clue and were excited to visit (for context, we've played 200+ escape games). Unfortunately, our visit fell far short of expectations. We played Sorcerer's Curse and even though we successfully escaped, we left feeling frustrated and disappointed. I'll start with the positives - the set design was wonderful (A+++ for the scenery) and had some dramatic reveals, and the staff were friendly and engaging. The puzzles, gameflow, and hint system made for a lackluster experience. The host told us it was multi-linear room with lots of stuff to do at the same time ... but it felt like the definition of a linear room. There was only one path to follow and at any time, 2 of our 4 players wouldn't have anything to do. Hints are only given if they feel like you're falling behind - you can't ask for them. So we'd solve several things quickly, but then get stuck and have to wait 5-10 minutes for the game host to decide that we had fallen behind and to help us. We never gained momentum because we couldn't ask for help when WE felt like we needed it. The room has a 15% success rate, but it's an artificial challenge level if your team is completely at the mercy of the game master. There were also 2 big technology fails. Our host came in to correct one of them, but the other one was never fixed or addressed, which led to additional confusion and frustration. We may come back at some point to try a different game, but the experience left such a sour taste that we'll probably explore other companies before returning. read more

Lock and Clue is a great escape room company that has quickly become my team's favorite to visit in SE New England. The rooms we've done there have really good production value and more than a few surprises. You can tell Lock and Clue wants to give its visitors an immersive experience that is more satisfying than simply having to escape a room. All of the employees we've dealt with were awesome (shout out to Heather and Jason!) as we chatted with them a bit about the different rooms and their recommendations for future visits. "The Inheritance" has a great mix of puzzles of varying difficulty. I don't think a team of escape room veterans would struggle too much with it, though newcomers might get stuck from time to time. Either way, Lock and Clue has a system where hints are supplied via a walkie-talkie where your guide nudges you in the right direction if you are stumped for too long. They don't flat out tell you what to do but convey what I think are scripted hints depending on where you are stuck. I don't think any of us had to "ask" for hints to get them, but it didn't feel like the game master was imposing himself or helping us "too much," either. The three of us managed to escape (and had a blast doing it) with, I think, about 8 minutes left. For escape room veterans I think 3 or 4 people would be ideal, but no more than that. We were all pretty busy the whole time, there weren't really any stretches where one of us was standing around waiting for the others to complete something. "The Sorcerer's Curse" is one of their more difficult rooms and requires at least three people to play. For veterans I probably wouldn't recommend more than 4 people as the puzzles are relatively linear and often times the three of us would be working on the same puzzle. Newbies would have a tough time with this room as one of the reasons The Sorcerer's Curse is more difficult (and a lot of fun!) is that the puzzles are not of the typical "looking for a key or 4 word code" variety but involve thinking outside of the box. I don't want to reveal too much about the puzzles or the scenery, so I'll just say that the production value of the room is very good and we had a lot of fun working our way though it. Lock and Clue is located on the second floor of a large converted factory that contains a restaurant, bowling alley, and tons of other seemingly random businesses. Like a lot of escape rooms finding the place can seem like the first challenge but there's plenty of parking right on Main Street next to the most convenient entrance. So far I've done two rooms here and enjoyed them more than any rooms I've done in nearby Providence. My team is looking forward to going back and checking out their other rooms! read more

Had a great time in the green room. Didn't get to escape but it was still a lot of fun. Went with 3 of my other friends and we had the room to ourselves. I definitely want to go back and try the other room. Personally, I can't watch scary movie commercials by myself and I get scared very easily. I screamed or jumped whenever something happened. I think a larger group would of made solving the puzzles easier. We were so close to escaping. The building was easy to find right off 95. The mill is pretty cool. There was a nice restaurant/bar on the first floor and a surprisingly bar/bowling alley on the top floor. Probably could plan a date night all in one place. This was a really hard review to write, because on one end, this was a fairly expensive venture and the green room is definitely very easy (in comparison to the other escape the rooms), but the cellar is where it's at, with very interesting clues, props, and more importantly, a crew that is truly dedicated to create the perfect ambiance. I don't want to ruin the experience by telling you the details, but I would recommend getting a group of 6 players, reserve the rooms early and ask every participant to pay you in advance in case they bail out. This was definitely the most intense escape the room I've done, and I think the amount of last-minute help was perfect to let us escape the room within 1 minute before closing. It costs about $28 per person, so it's not super cheap, but they're all about that price. read more

Three of my friends and I went to lock & clue on March 16 2019 and did the green room! A few of us have done escape rooms in the past but they didn't compare to lock and clue .. we had such a fun / good experience we can't wait to go back! Though we didn't make it out ( we would have if we had 2 more minutes ) we can't say enough good things about it !! The guide ( I guess that's what we'd refer to her as ), I can't remember her name unfortunately, but she was AWESOME !! This place is so worth the money! The thing we liked most about it is that each room caters to one group at a time where as other escape room places will place two groups together if there is space, we personally enjoyed it more this way!.. if you're thinking about going here stop thinking and go you won't regret it ! read more

This was my first escape room experience and I can say that I'll be back for more. The staff was very helpful and were genuinely interested in making the experience great. We went with the green room since it was rated as a beginner/intermediate room. Our team of 4 managed to escape with over 15 minutes to spare. They did offer a couple of hints and helped us with a lock that was being difficult even though we had the correct code. It was fun and did require everyone to work together. We did the Sorcerer's curse for my friend's birthday and we had an amazing time. We literally could not stop talking about how much fun we had once we left. This was our 5th Escape Room, but first time at Lock and Clue, and this place is definitely at the top. Fully immersive, great decor, aesthetic, and atmosphere. The puzzles were challenging, interesting clues, and a lot of cool technology. Apparently this is one of the most difficult rooms. Another thing that was cool was that it wasn't just "one room" we had to escape. The multiple rooms made it way more fun and moved things a long and made us more and more excited as we made progress. We stopped down last minute without a reservation. They had actually closed a little early because of a slow night and were about to lock the door. They graciously told us they would open back up and set up the Vault room for us. My wife and I have done 4 escape rooms before and it was my brother and sister-in-law's first. This was by far the best game room to date. The puzzles were challenging and the reward for figuring one out was well worth the challenge. We might not live local but have relatives that are and will be passing along our recommendations to them. read more

This was an awesome experience. We did the "Green Room" puzzle yesterday with a group of 6. I won't say much so that I won't ruin it for anyone. We didn't really know what to expect. We can best describe it as playing live "Clue". I feel that never having done one of these made it that much more fun. We were all over the place for the most part. They offer you 3 additional clues, which we used up. I kind of wish I had a pen and pad to keep my thoughts and the clues we had put together in order. I went to Lock & Clue yesterday with y sister and we did the Green Room. Overall it was fun but here are some pros and cons Pros: We love Heather. The room director person was amazing and so fun and playful and helpful and my new best friend if all goes according to plan. Cons: The room itself... wasn't amazing. First of all, instead of being able to walkie for clues, the clue giver would just watch you and walk into the room and make suggestions which kind of made it feel like we didn't have the opportunity to try to do things ourselves. So even though we were like "sweet, heather is here, we love her," we didn't necessarily want the constant "maybe look over there" with vague gesturing. We couldn't tell if we were sucking or if it was because we were a small group and H wanted to be super helpful. We love her. Nothing against her. Just conceptually, being given help by someone walking into the room instead of calling to ask for help was annoying. Also, you aren't supposed to touch items with a "red dot" on them, and the red dot was on the back for a lot of objects so, in order to see it, you would have already had to touch the object. Just counterintuitive. I think I'll maybe go back and try another room and see how it goes but the main redeeming quality was Heather. Heather is the best. If you go, try to do a room where Heather is the room master. She's a legend. An icon. A star. read more

The puzzles are extremely well thought out and match the theme of each room perfectly, and each room is wonderfully detailed (think movie-set like detail). On top of the awesome rooms, the staff could not be friendlier and really get you into the themes. We recently had friends visiting and after finishing some more "basic" rooms near Boston, decided to make the drive to Rhode Island to visit escape rooms that we knew would exceed our expectations. This is probably one of the best places to do an escape room no matter what level you are. My friends and I love doing escape rooms and have done about four rooms here. This time around we did the cellar part two and it was incredible (even better than part one which I thought was impossible).The best thing about this room is that puzzles don't follow a typical linear pattern and are extremely immersive (of course Saul adds to that too!). Absolutely loved the green room. We got out in 34 mins. It was challenging and fun. Will definitely go back. I give 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons, one is that it is a little pricey. The Groupon was sold out. I think 20-25 would be more reasonable. Secondly it was hard to find. Once I got into the mill we couldn't figure out where to go! Need more signs!!! Did the Green Room with six people. Maybe I'm spoiled by other escape rooms, but while this one was reasonably fun, it felt lacking. There weren't a ton of puzzles (we finished with a lot of time left on the clock), the story had a promising premise but didn't seem very detailed, and the last phase was quick and anticlimactic. Also, compared to other places where the staff is enthusiastic and really gets into the story/puzzle content, the employees here seemed kind of disinterested. Finally, one of the mechanical elements was touchy and didn't trigger until we did the correct thing many times (at least that's what we think happened; the operator didn't have a better explanation). It was fine, and maybe The Cellar is a more interesting room, but there are better escape room options in the Boston/Providence area. read more
