My cousins and I have started a new tradition of doing an escape room when we have a large gathering and decided to try the Ritual Room. We got a good discount on our party and I believed we paid $18-20pp on this night. I had some complaints about the room...mainly one of the light bulbs needed to solve a puzzle was burnt out and we weren't aware of that until spending a long time trying to figure it out. Another group prior had damaged one of the clues by getting a book wet and red dye was all over the prop which made it difficult to solve another puzzle. Another one of the props was made with really thin paper and the ink bled thru so it was difficult knowing which side of the page to use to solve the puzzle. The theme was pretty weak and the immersion was really poor and it didn't feel really creative to us when compared to the 3 other rooms we've done prior. Despite the discount...we still sorta felt like we didn't get our moneys worth. read more

I've played quite the number of escape rooms before and this was definitely a positive experience. Our group of 3 escaped with a little over 12 minutes left and felt like the game came to a nice and fun conclusion. Pros: 1. The host, Mythius, was a fantastic individual. All around great customer service and super entertaining. Never met an Australian before (wink). 2. There was one quite unique puzzle that I really enjoyed and it was the most *positively* unique of all the games we had played that weekend. 3. Private booking was a fantastic perk. Cons: 1. Aside from the unique puzzle, I felt like I've seen every other puzzle before. A lot of the content felt quite standard across the board, which allowed us to solve a bunch of puzzles really fast before getting stuck on mundane things. 2. There were a few unintentional red herrings that kind of threw us off. Most seem due to props getting damaged/marked by previous teams. Overall a great experience though where I feel that the cons could easily be non-existent for newer teams. Can't wait to be back in Portland to check out some of the other games! read more

This room I think if you're on a roll it can be done pretty quick! The puzzles were well thought out, and please listen to the host and don't drink the red liquid... Despite what I said, my group wasn't able to finish it on time and join the secret society! We just had one puzzle left! The puzzles were very interactive and I would say look for the smallest details and take the jump! Show them your bravery and wits! We were a bit stubborn and didn't want to get hints. The location is right off Barbur, don't go too fast or you might miss the entrance. Once you get there it's upstairs and with the obvious door. Use the unlimited hints escapism gives you if you truly get stuck! The host that did it was great! We had him at another location and would highly recommend him, he has a great accent too! read more

We had a group of 8 attempt The Ritual Room for my 25th birthday and we could not have asked for a better experience! The host did such an amazing job getting into character and staying in character throughout our experience. The room stays true to the theme and is cleverly thought out. It's a little less expensive than some other rooms in the area, but definitely provides a high-level experience. We got down to the last two puzzles and were incredibly close to finishing it when the timer ran out - but that didn't lessen our experience. Highly recommend! read more

My 13 year old son and I were having a mother-son day and he wanted to do this as part of our day. I hesitantly agreed to do the Ritual Room on SW Barbur. As we walked up to the nondescript office building and climbed the stairs, my son and I joked that we were about to be kidnapped and sold for our body parts. Once inside the Ritual Room lobby, however, the fun began. We had a BLAST working through all the puzzles and clues which were inventive, clever, creative and at times frustratingly obvious (frustrating once we figured out how obvious it was). We didn't make our great escape - even with a few helpful calls to our lifeline, but we were minutes from it and walked away with a memory to last a lifetime. Thanks Escapism! For newbies - I recommend this for kids 12+ and maybe play the app "Can you Escape" a bit to get the flavor of how these kinds of things work. Have a blast! read more

Wonderful escape room experience. I have been to one escape room before but I really liked the overall experience here. You have to show up on time and knock only 5 minutes before the appointed time. The best part according to me, apart from the fact that the escape room riddles and tasks are amazingly designed and very creative, is that the person welcoming you or giving you the background of the escape room is in character with the costume and accent and all. I loved that. They go through that extra effort to give you a more authentic experience and make it more fun. We did the Wizard Lair escape room and this was supposed to be the hardest room that they have. We were not able to finish it in one hour but with a group of 11 people it was a lot of fun nonetheless. I would definitely recommend this place and would plan to go back for the other rooms also. I went along with a group for a friend's birthday (about 7 of us) and we had a great time! The "butler" that welcomed us with a well-spun persona introduced us to what we would experience, and we walked in and were immediately immersed in a real-life escape room. We did have to ask for a couple of clues when we got stuck - but otherwise were able to finish the room with 5 minutes to spare. This is my first escape room, so I don't have any other comparisons here, but it was a ton of fun! 4 of us went in and it was challenging and interesting and like others said, had clues if you got stuck. We finished with 8 minutes left and that was only because one member of our group was a veteran and had done 9-10 before this one. We all had a blast and I can't wait to try another one! This was fun and worthwhile! I saw it on a friend's facebook page and was intrigued. I convinced 7 other friends to join me, not knowing what to expect. I wasn't sure if it was gonna be kinda dorky like a dungeons& dragons thing, but it was really cool, it was like a gigantic riddle where the boundaries were a bit unclear. I think our group was a few minutes longer than an hour, but we mainly solved it and managed to escape the room!! It was a fun team building activity, working together and communicating and figuring stuff out. We got to work together and collaborate and do something productive. I just completed this escape room with a group of friends (5 total), and it was a great experience! We completed the room with about 8 minutes left after receiving about 3 clues. I really enjoyed the puzzles in this escape room as they were pretty logical once you figured out the trick. Everything that we weren't supposed to touch was clearly marked, and they were pretty clear about the boundary rules for the game. You make your booking online via their webpage. Plan on coming about 5 minutes early. This is the third escape room that I've done (1 of which was in MD, and one of which was in Beaverton but via a different company), and it was by far the best of the lot. We had a group of 4 attempt The Ritual Room and although we did not 'survive' the room we had a blast!!!! We definitely created some dinner party stories during this adventure and have been telling our friends and family that they must try to escape this room. The hosts do a wonderful job of getting into their roles and we loved that the host did not go into the room with us. There was means of communication (which fit the theme of the room) and we were given hints to find more puzzle pieces. It was so much fun! We went through the "cat" puzzle room. Very bad. They admitted that instead of buying this puzzle, they let a friend craft it. We've been through 4 or 5 different escape rooms with 3-4 different outfits, and we always either escaped, or came darn close. This time, despite 3 hints, we weren't even close. It's poorly designed, very jumbled. We agreed that if all of us had been give 3 hours, we wouldn't have been close. It wasn't us - it was just poorly designed. Definitely do not recommend. read more

I'm surprised to see so many 5 star reviews for this escape room. My group and I did The Ritual Room. I've done a few escape rooms in Portland and also other cities, of varying difficulty levels, and always have so much fun. The experience I had here was very disappointing. The puzzles didn't seem cohesive and everything felt disjointed. One of the puzzles wasn't even working right and the host had to troubleshoot it after the game ended, and it didn't even work then. The host seemed very awkward, super cranky, and condescending. He spent more time trying to tidy up the room after and complain about it, rather than interact with us after the game ended. No goodbye, no thank you, customer service at its worst. This place left a sour taste in my mouth and my tip to you is to go elsewhere. I'm not sure how the other Escapism rooms are and how the other hosts are, but I won't be returning to find out. read more

Went back and a year or so later and did the Alien Zoo. Not as good as Wizard's Lair, but still pretty great. We've done around 40+ rooms at this point and still think Wizard's Lair was one of the best. One notable characteristic of their rooms is that they don't over-rely on combination locks like many rooms tend to. I also should mention I love that this place only does private bookings - that's the way most escape rooms ought to be. read more
