This was my 3rd escape room at Escapology in Universal CityWalk, and we seriously love it every single time we go. It's become one of our favorite things to do, and this visit was no exception! A huge shoutout to Natasha and Byan--they were absolutely amazing hosts. From the moment we walked in, they were welcoming, energetic, and set such a fun tone for the whole experience. They explained everything clearly, kept the excitement going, and made us feel totally immersed in the game. You can tell they genuinely enjoy what they do, and that energy really makes a difference. The room itself was a blast, but Natasha and Byan are what made this visit especially memorable. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share our experience. My family and I visited Escapology at Universal CityWalk after purchasing a promotional package last year. Before coming in, we called to confirm how our promotion worked. Unfortunately, the manager in universal city walk escapology who answered the phone was rude, impatient, and spoke to us with an attitude while we were simply asking questions to understand the promotion. When we asked if we could speak with a manager, she responded, "You're already talking to the manager," in a very dismissive tone before abruptly hanging up on us. Despite that unpleasant phone call, we decided to give the location a chance. When we arrived, another employee kindly reviewed our email, explained our promotion clearly, and helped resolve the confusion. He was professional, patient, and provided excellent customer service. We appreciated his help. Then when we're about to pay ge transfered us to other lady which I believe was the supervisor. As we paying she's charging us $99 when the other guys told us that we only need to pay $50 for kids si de we still have the promotion which is the 25% off. So I just ask her nicely not in a disrespectful way to call the other guy who help us first so he could explain it to her. So we paid, we're booked in. Everything seems fine even though she's rushing us before the game and after and I feel that's kind of odd. After we finished our escape room, we were taking family photos. My boyfriend politely asked the manager if she could take one picture of all of us. Instead of simply helping or declining, she unexpectedly told us we had to leave because we had been "disrespectful" to her and her supervisor over the phone. This completely caught us off guard. We had never raised our voices or disrespected anyone. We were only asking questions about a promotion we had already purchased. If we had truly been disrespectful, why were we allowed to complete our purchase, play the game for over an hour, and only then be confronted after everything was finished? I even asked to check the cctvs if we're being disrespectful and she said, I didn't have to check the cctv. which I found very unfair and very unprofessional. The most disappointing part was that this happened in front of our children. I asked her not to continue the confrontation because my kids were there, but she said she didn't care. As a parent, that was heartbreaking and completely unprofessional. I understand that misunderstandings happen, but managers are expected to de-escalate situations professionally--not create them. This experience left my family embarrassed and disappointed. The escape room itself was fun, and the employee who initially helped us was wonderful. Unfortunately, the manager's behavior overshadowed what should have been a great family outing. it was traumatizing to my kids especially that never happened to us. I sincerely hope management addresses this issue so other families don't have a similar experience. read more

October 30, 2025 | Universal City | After my friend's dinner party, 6 of us slid into an Uber SUV and headed to Universal City Walk to an escape room! Escapology was our destination & it was fun! Inside | Moody lighting in the lobby! I absolutely loved the gold curtain with the gold hands quite stylish and glamorous! It was also fun holding the message bubbles of our choice while taking a group photo at the end! Low lighting in the actual escape room and several rooms to go through! Cameras are not allowed inside of the escape room as to not give away the clues, which totally makes sense! Haunted House | While escape rooms are enjoyable, my friends are "super good" at making it through the escape room in time, as the goal is to solve the game before the time runs out! This one was actually quite hard and we had to press the button a few times to get clues! We didn't find that the clues were that helpful at times... at one point, the screen said, don't spam! lol! What?! We needed better clues! I was super excited every single time I figured out a clue!! However, we did make it through the escape room before the time ran out!! Teamwork making the dream work, we solved it!! Yay! Customer Service | Thanks Sav, Nate & Sam! Friendly, helpful, and attentive! Thanks again for taking several group photos of us all! Some of us wore a costume to the escape room! Fun!! Overall | Fun times, bonding experience with friends, spending time together & puts critical thinking into motion, which made for a fun day before Halloween celebration! Did a great experience doing the Lost City room experience and then after breezing through the room, the Haunted House!!! We had a fantastic time checking in and was able to enjoy the ambiance of the place. It was my first time trying an escape room with Escapology and I definitely feel like both of the rooms we did were very well-made and was a perfect blend of theming for both rooms. Lost City; Exploring a 'cave' like we are in Indiana Jones. Props were fun and great! Haunted House; Pretty spooky and eerie. Great dim lighting element with the use of candlelights or lantern. Oh my goodness our minds were boggled but I'm so proud of our group for being able to escape! Needed to get a hint for both rooms but we were on the right track. read more

I've done a few rooms from Escapology's other locations and this was our first time doing one here. We were hanging out at the City Walk before going to Universal Studios Fanfest Nights and since we had a lot of time we decided to try out one of the rooms. This location is behind the Toothsome Chocolate Emporium - not hard to miss. It's a pretty big facility. Some of their rooms are located on the second floor. We decided playing 7 Deadly Sins which is spooky but not scary - there were no jump scares. It could fit up to 8 players but we played it with just the 3 of us. I'm not sure how you could fit 8 people in there. It was really crunchy and a bit toasty the longer we played. We had a lot of momentum with the first few puzzles but a few slowed us down a bit. There is a button you push to request a clue which is displayed on a screen, which we like better than walkie-talkies from other places. Free nudges were frequent which we didn't mind, but I knew we still would've solved it on our own. Some puzzles could use a little more direction but I still appreciated the difficulty of them. read more

Natasha was the least welcoming and helpful manager on duty (per her name tag). I understand that each Escapology may be operated differently and rules/exceptions can vary but the attitude and lack of customer service really started the experience off poorly. We ended up booking the room with hesitation and really should've just walked away. We did the 7 Deadly Sins room and it has an element that is "not hooked up" or aka broken. We finished the game with 22 minutes to spare because the game master did not let us struggle for long, before giving an extra detailed clue where it took the fun out of trying to figure out a puzzle. We've done 70+ escape rooms and this one by far in our bottom 10. read more

Have been here twice, once for 7 Deadly Sins and once for Haunted House. Both rooms are very distinct from the other, obviously, with different stories. Parking at City Walk can get expensive. Generally cheaper to valet and get validation than paying to self park. Our game masters were helpful with both rooms, when needed, and we were able to escape each room with plenty of time remaining. For Haunted House, I do wish it was scarier, but you can only do so much with an escape room. May head back a third time and either try A Pirates Curse or Lost City. read more

This escape room location was located in CityWalk, and is a perfect way to kill time with a group of friends!!! The staff were friendly and check-in was easy with a QR code to scan to fill out a waiver. So many themed rooms to choose from and you can ask the staff which rooms have certain difficulty levels!!! Very clean inside and the props were all good quality. Was able to 'escape' our rooms and I do enjoy the specific wristbands you get for a doom. read more

A few friends and I got together and we decided to try something different--an escape room! We chose the Scooby-Doo theme, and it was an absolute blast. The game lasted an hour and was surprisingly challenging, but we all worked together and managed to crack the code with just two minutes to spare! What I really appreciated was that if anyone needed a breather or got a bit claustrophobic, you were allowed to open the door without disqualifying the whole group. The rooms were spacious enough that you didn't feel trapped, and the overall setup was really well done. We were so excited when we escaped, I'm pretty sure they heard us cheering down the hall! I am no stranger to Escapology, having already escaped all of the rooms at their Northridge location. In seeing that Citywalk offers a couple of rooms that Northridge doesn't, my friends and I were very excited to continue testing our escape room skills. In this visit, we chose to try out the Lost City room, which I thoroughly enjoyed. However, I think that some of the clues were a little lacking and made it difficult to understand exactly how to solve specific puzzles. In some cases, we found ourselves stuck because we had overlooked certain clues, but we were given the answers instead of explanations on how to find the answers ourselves. I still had a great time and I think we were able to find things out ourselves for the most part, but I do hope that in our next visit, the clues will be a little more guiding than revealing so we can enjoy the satisfaction that comes with solving the riddles and puzzles ourselves! read more

We are experienced escape room family and we've never had such a friendly, flexible, and accommodating staff. Shout out to Robert, Kevin, Bijan, and Danele. You all are so great. The rooms are okay. We chose the Lost City room, there was just 2 of us. It was really exciting for this was the first doing this together. After the door closed & the announcement of the rules & instructions came. Heart started pumping faster & timer START. Go time! After the first solve we got our bearings and was able to move forward with more intentions. It was so much fun. There were hints given by the game master when they saw we were stuck, which always came at just the right time. You can also press a button for hints. We did two rooms on different days with mixed results so this review will cover both. The first time we did The Lost City which was a lot of fun. One major problem was when they reset the room for our experience they failed to erase the escape code the previous group wrote down on the e-notepad they provide you. We didn't know this was the final code and thought it was a clue they left for us so when we were experimenting with different codes for the first puzzle we actually "won" 5 minutes in. They reset the timer saying there was a malfunction and didn't tell us it was the final clue so it didn't impact the game until the very last moments when we realized what really happened at the start. It wasn't a big deal and we had fun anyway. They offered a 50% discount for another game and we signed up for Batman the following week. We wanted to try a harder one and see if we could do it with less clues from the game master but it was impossible to complete without specific clues. I don't want to give too much away so forgive the ambiguity - there are certain puzzles that absolutely need more information than what you have, puzzles that had timing issues, and clues that were in places they said they would not be. We could have been there 10 years and still wouldn't have figured out what some clues meant based only on the information provided in the room. You absolutely need to get clues for this room. The other problem was when you ask for a clue you don't know if they get the buzz - there's no "typing" message and they get annoyed if you hit the button again. We won but only because they gave us a clue that was basically the answer to a puzzle we should have figured out. At the end of both experiences they also asked us to rate the game immediately after and shoved a QR code at us which I didn't like because a lot of places use this tactic to get high reviews and its gross and exploitive. I'm not going to review you while you're standing over my shoulder. Overall, it was a very mixed experience. We had a good time but I think this location is still trying to get its footing and has some things to work out. read more

Such a great time! 4 of us went to the Haunted House. It's not that scary but it's eerie! We were met by Nick who after we signed the consent forms let us in early! Thanks Nick. You have to really listen to the voices talking and take the clues seriously. There are many rooms and each is decorated really well because it's a new place. Robert was our game host & game master and helped if we asked for clues which we didn't ask many of. All in all we finished with 20 minutes to spare! Everyone was helpful and you really have to think. We're doing "Pirates Curse" next and I can't wait! You won't be disappointed with this Escapology! read more

We had such an amazing time at Escapology celebrating my fiancé's birthday! Our game masters, Tarin and Bijan, were super fun, professional, and really made the experience even better. We did the Batman escape room, and while it was definitely more challenging than I expected, it was still totally doable and so much fun once we started working together. A special shoutout to Sam, too, she was so kind and reassuring. I was a little nervous going in because I thought it might be scary, but she completely calmed my fears and helped me relax. Instead of being scary, it turned out to be an exciting, immersive adventure! This was such a memorable way to celebrate, and I couldn't recommend Escapology more. We did The Lost City at Universal City Escapology, and it was truly disappointing. The clues didn't tie together, and the puzzles had no logical flow or reason for being laid out the way they were. Our family has completed over 50 escape rooms, and this one was by far the most disappointing. The puzzles weren't difficult, but they made no sense--for example, why would you group all the #1s together? It felt more like a series of isolated puzzles rather than an immersive, logical experience. In the end, we gave up and just kept asking for hints, which really took away from the fun. read more

Complete letdown! Went to this escape room for a birthday celebration and one of the main elements, a pivotal one at that, didn't work. This element would have led us to solving the puzzle quicker and made the experience enjoyable. Instead, we were stuck and frustrated. When we finally got clues, they were only up on the screen for a minute before disappearing, and we did not have access to them continuously. The staff admitted the issues with room but offered no restitution. Their apology was heartfelt but we went for fun and end up frustrated and bothered. Maybe just ask is the room working at 100% before jumping into the mystery. Would do this again but not here. read more

me and my friends love doing escape rooms together and have done multiple rooms at 5 other escape room companies so far so we're well acquainted with the experience and have a good idea of what to expect. production quality at escapology is great, and i really like the inclusion of the intro video that explains the lore/story to get you in the zone. we did 7 deadly sins and the theming was very cool. i only have a couple complaints, and the first one is, without spoiling anything, there is one particular Type of puzzle that was used multiple times with some very slight variations. the first time was fine, then the second and third time i was just getting kind of annoyed because it was time consuming and got confusing since the previous ones were similar but different and we kept getting mixed up. my second complaint is also minor, but having the hints be on the tv screen in the first room made checking the hints as we proceeded a bit inconvenient since we had to keep going back and forth. maybe a speaker for the game master to talk to players instead would be better? however, i understand some of the hints are visually dependent and that makes it a bit harder to implement some suggestions i'd like to see put in place, our game master was very nice and helpful, but for us personally, we prefer to only get hints when we ask for them, and our game master gave us hints without us asking, so it kinda spoiled the fun of solving some puzzles ourselves my other suggestion, id really love to see difficulty ratings for each room. just helps people know what they're getting into and plan better for what they wanna do. me and my friends obviously like harder puzzles, but a family with kids is going to want something easier. overall though, great experience and we had fun! my friends and i booked another room because of that 50% off deal if you book another future game on the same day and im looking forward to it! reading other reviews i guess we were fortunate that we never ran into daniel so i can't speak to that but the staff we spoke to that day were all very nice and seemed genuinely happy we were there, so thanks to you guys for a fun time :) ill definitely be keeping an eye on this place to see how it continues to grow. read more

The Batman room had a lot of computer prompts and the hints are not even given by a person on the intercom but sentences on the screen.. Very impersonal.. It was confusing and didn't have the element of fun to it.. The front desk person came in to help and she was very professional. My siblings and I are escape room snobs, we are aware of this. We analyze every aspect of a room, the clue progressions where things can be harder easier all of it. We've conquered hundreds all over and the rooms at escapology are some of our favorite. We've ran into very minimal issues but have always enjoyed our time. The staff is fantastic! Taryn, Terrin, one of those spellings officially knows our faces when we come in and is always a joy to see! The watchers in the sky are very playful as we chat with them through our game play telling them not to dare give us hints. We thank the entire staff for our many unique and kind experiences.
