Eshel is legit. Can't speak to the ambiance as I've only ever ordered delivery but the food is the real deal - delicious, decadent and just right. They threw in a free crispy tahdig with a ridiculously good drizzle on it and honestly the freebie worked, I'm paying for it this next order. Koobideh is always my order and they may have the best one in Manhattan. Price is right for the quality. Onion is just right. Tomato is just right. Rice is, as you may have guessed, the truth. Now, you may have read this and then looked at the little picture next to my name and thought to yourself, ehh, what does this guy know about legit persian food... well, I married into a Persian family and have spent the past 13 years being treated to the absolute best persian food CA & NY has to offer. I don't think it would be a hot take to say that the availability and quality in CA is undeniably a little better than NY was 8 years ago when we moved here, but it has only improved in recent years and Eshel is an absolute credit to the UWS. Amazing food- really delicious, thoughtfully prepared persian cuisine made with high quality ingredients. The stellar food is complimented by exceptional customer service. I ordered one of the shabbat boxes- shabbat box one- advertised to feed 1-2 individuals for $89 including free delivery in manhattan. The number of dishes and portion sizes received was more than enough for 4-6 well balanced meals. Where to begin? KOUBIDEH, JOOJEH SAFFRON CHICKEN, ROAST ONIONS- I wish you could smell How amazing this meat smelled and tasted! The roasted onions were amazing as well. EGGPLANT CARPACCIO- incredible- just look at the photos- the garlic is amazing as well- honestly my favorite dish of the whole day, I called dibs on the leftovers! WHITE RICE & CHERRY RICE- more than enough rice for 6 meals! KALE CEASER SALAD- very fresh and tasty SHIRAZI SALAD- high quality produce TAHDIG- sooo divine HUMMUS- this hummus is SO flavorful with amazing garlic, zhoug, and crushed tomato CHALLAH - also not listed- but added on complimentary sauces and a generous portion of pickles and olives! I heard of this place from instagram and have been dying to check it out. We were in a bit of a rush so decided on getting a meal to go. We ordered the koobideh and the boneless chicken skewers with a side of Persian rice and Shiraz salad. The place is first of all beautiful you can tell they put a lot of work and thought into it. I didn't have much interaction service wise, but the food came out relatively quick and the owner and waitstaff were so kind and kept offering me water as I was waiting. I have to say that I was blown away by the deliciousness of the food!! The meat was so tender and juicy and everything was so fresh and the spices and smells filled up the car (in the best way possible) as we left. The chicken was my favorite and the rice was unbelievable! They gave us a white sauce that paired perfectly with the chicken and I added some extra sumac. They packed us some crispy tahdig on the side and some pickles and olives. Well worth the trip uptown and will definitely be back for some more!! read more

Eshel is a lovely space with the nicest wait staff. My friend and I dined there on Oct 21, 2025. We shared one appetizer, eggplant carpaccio which was very tasty. We shared one side, saffron rice which was light, fluffy and nicely flavored. We each ordered one other appetizer, lamb arayes which was very over-priced ($34!) with tiny patties of over cooked lamb hidden in huge chunks of over toasted brown bread. We had no main courses. We each had one bar drink. Unknowing of the price, we then ordered the dessert special, a medium sized portion of deliciuos pistachio flavored ice cream (which we shared), again severely over priced at $24! So, two shared apps, another app each, one bar drink each and one shared dessert with a bill that came to $220 (with a 20% tip)! Absolutely, positively not worth the price. The food is great -- though some dishes can be hit or miss, depending on what you order and your personal taste. The lamb arayes make for a perfect appetizer (just ask for it without the lemon garnish on top), as does the eggplant carpaccio. For the main course, you can't go wrong with the ghormeh sabzi (green herb and dried lime stew) or the kabobs. The skewers are incredibly juicy and best enjoyed with sumac and a dollop of their saffron mayo. I'm not a huge fan of the split pea stew, but that's only because I don't like split peas. If you enjoy sweet rice, you'll love the Albaloo cherry rice, which is a household favorite. For a more savory, earthy option, the dill rice is a wonderful pairing with fish. A quick note: I skip the candied orange rice as I don't really enjoy bold citrus and tart orange flavors -- it's quite strong, but great if you enjoy that flavor profile. I haven't tried the desserts yet, but I've heard amazing things about the pistachio rose water ice cream. Beyond the food, the proprietors are knowledgeable, passionate, and hardworking. They also own a sister restaurant in Great Neck that's just as delicious (Shiraz). The ambiance of the restaurant is also nice -- elegant and simple. I came here with my husband and kids. We were extremely excited that a new kosher Persian spot opened up in Manhattan - it's such a treat for us. My expectations were blown out of the water. Aside from the absolutely gorgeous decor and ambiance, the food hit the spot. We got the arayes and sliders to start - 10/10. they were so incredibly juicy and fresh, not to mention how yum the sauces were that they came with. we also got kabob and it was incredibly flavorful and honestly some of the best I've ever had. lastly, we had to try the tiramisu and baklava. they were phenomenal and decadent. beautiful presentation. We had high hopes going here. The place looked high end and the ambiance was pleasing. Authentic Persian food sounded amazing. But I have to believe most of these reviews are either 1) not real; 2) from employees; or 3) from people who have never eating Persian food before. The actual food was both overpriced and underwhelming. Kabobs were flavorless and at $40, we felt ripped off. Tabouli was all bulgar wheat and almost no parsley or taste, and the rice tasted like air and nothing. They charged us $10 for a bottle of water which we did not order...very sneaky. Was asked how our meal was and we were honest that it had been sub par and disapponting. Received a shoulder shrug and then they dropped the $200 on the table. We left unhappy, still hungry, and felt ripped off. This is the kind of place you try once and probably won't go back again. read more
