My new office is in this building on top of Espresso Love and it's 10/10! From the service and smiles to the delicious food and wonderful coffee. I never have experienced such a warm welcome with thoughtful coffee recommendations! Some of my favorites are the blueberry scone, capri chicken wrap and Caesar salad wrap. What a strange policy: sandwiches are served with chips ONLY if you eat in, not take it to go. I ordered a sandwich - they didnt ask me for here or to go. Sandwich comes out in a basket/plate thing with a handful of multi colored tortilla chips on the side. Needing to return to work soon, I ask for the sandwich to go, and they only pack the sandwich in wax paper and a paper bag. When i asked about the chips the woman behind the counter said "thats only if you eat here." I asked if it was a matter of packaging and offered for them to toss the chips into the paper bag the sandwich was in. She said no that wasn't possible. I asked what if I had eaten in the cafe and then asked for a to go box for my leftovers, she said then she would charge me 50 cents. There was no apology or tone of understanding in this exchange. I was perplexed to say the least. Not only is this supposed policy highly unusual (seriously, who does that?), it wasn't communicated up front / before ordering and there is no price differential for sandwiches with/without chips. Pro Tip (if you must order a sandwich here): order for here. Eat the chips. Pack the sandwich to go yourself. Jokes aside, this spoiled what would have otherwise been a good visit. read more

The thing that I hate the most about this place is:- They charge 10$ for a simple sandwich and the QUANTITY is not even matching what a $10 sandwich should. This is completely bullshit thing about places like these. And sandwich wasn't even that good to begin with. Never going back there!!! Worst part is I work right upstairs from this place. This is a great little spot to stop in for a cup of coffee, just about any baked good or even a quick sandwich. There is some seating inside on the first level and for more seating and the restrooms head on upstairs. The wifi is free and works well too. My husband and I stopped in here when we were waiting to head on to out next spot to kill some time and browse the internets. He had and iced coffee and I had some tea. A lot of people don't realize that often times a cafe will get their pastries and other baked goods from another place, who probably made it the day before. Not at Espresso Love. All of their pastries are made each morning from scratch. I had the blueberry scone and it was unreal, and I'm not even a pastry person. I also had an Americano that was fantastic; I'm still sipping it as we speak. I had it with no sugar or milk (another rarity) and it tastes earthy and delish. I did happen to see the New Yorker on the menu - a bagel with cream cheese, lox, onions, capers and a tomato. This is an extremely hard thing to find in the Financial District -- or the North End, for that matter. This will satisfy my hungover craving for Jew food and double as a passive aggressive way to stick it to people in the office. Whatevs, the smell of lox and onions never bothered me! The only drawback is the price. It's pricey...more so than starbucks. But that isn't going to stop me! read more

Best scones currently within the scope of my awareness. Made with skim buttermilk, they are very tasty and potentially habit forming. The coffee and espresso drinks are top notch. The iced coffee is good to drink black (I note this because it's often not at many places in town). I don't love the breakfast sandwiches but I do like them. I would like to see a few more hearty options but for now the Broad St Bagel with egg and avocado is quite good. I really like that they stay open a bit later and on the weekends. read more

Despite the fact that I go to Espresso Love at least once every other day, I have yet to write a review on it. Which is unusual because I LOVE this place. I think their coffee is some of the BEST in Boston. It's not overly acidic, it doesn't taste burnt...it tastes SMOOTH and has depth and is delicious. And it's cheap. They also have baked goods. We like this. We like it when we can have a blueberry scone or banana bread or pumpkin walnut bread with our iced coffee. We like that we can take a 3 minute walk from work and get ourselves an afternoon pick-me-up. And we also like it when we can get both of those for about $5. You know what else we like? Their oatmeal offering. I can get a huge portion of oatmeal with my choice of toppings for $2. THAT'S A STEAL. They also have a decent selection of breakfast sandwiches and lunch offerings...I've had a salad, a veggie burger, and a breakfast sandwich from here. All were decent, nothing too special or crazy. I work in the area so Espresso Love is a goto spot for me. Their coffee is cheaper than the Dunkin Donuts down the street, but in my opinion, stronger. They also have various coffee concoctions, like a Thai Iced Coffee, made with espresso, coffee, and condensed milk, or a Spanish Coffee, which is condensed milk and coffee. They also have some good baked goods, with huge cookies and other items like muffins, scones, or bars. They're breakfast sandwiches are also pretty good, with the sunrise egg sandwich being a standard egg mcmuffin. The staff here is usually pretty attentive, but their have been times when I've waited a long time for my order. The lines here can be pretty tremendous in the mornings as well. read more

As a caveat, I usually never rate restaurants or establishments on Yelp, but today is an exception. Instead of just grabbing a quick coffee before work, I decided to try their breakfast wrap. Upon my return to the office, I realized the wrap was freezing. It must have been the last burrito order before they ran out, because the eggs were ice cold and saturated in salt. Devastated, I called Espresso Love to ask if I may have another fresh one tomorrow for breakfast. To my surprise, they sent an employee on foot to personally deliver me a piping hot wrap and a gift card for my troubles. I was so shocked by their responsiveness and willingness to remedy the problem! Never have I ever had such a negative experience turned upside down into something so positive. I'm in (espresso) love! Finally, a quality sandwich place in the Financial District. Since I discovered Espresso Love a few weeks ago I've been going there at least 3 times/week for lunch. They serve inventive sandwiches with high quality meats, a diverse bread selection, and very fresh veggies. I was pleasantly surprised that my grilled curry chicken salad sandwich was incredibly tasty without being laden with mayo (a la Al's), and recently tried the homemade veggie burger with avocado, lettuce, tomato, sprouts and honey mustard - all I can say is WOW! I know some people complained about the prices but I find them to be pretty standard for the area - $7-9 for a great, filling sandwich is alright with me. I have never stayed in the North End before so when an old friend wanted to meet for coffee, I needed to know the best quaint, unique coffee shop to go to. The friend I was staying with recommended Espresso Love and it sounded perfect. Espresso Royale is my favorite coffee shop anywhere in Boston. She made the mistake of comparing the two places which raised my hopes for a unique and yummy place. Although EL was great, I didn't think it compared to ERC. Espresso Love had great coffee (Chuck loved the strong "Love Blend"!) and lattes. The service was great- everyone was friendly. They even brought my coffee up to me on the balcony when Chuck and I got too absorbed in talking to know that my coffee was missing! I owe a big thank you to the yelpers that reviewed the place because I tried the scones and they were AH-mazing! The Blueberry scone was great and Chuck loved the raspberry almond scone also Chuck and I missed the "cozy" feeling that I get from my favorite coffee spots though.... Ideally this place would have more lounge chairs and couches to really maximize bonding time! read more

So many coffee shops in the area buy the same ultra-bitter beans and call it good coffee. Grabbed an iced coffee and a cookie here after lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Awesome coffee and lunch spot. I was really impressed with how low they keep their espresso prices - $3 for a double - not bad. Drip coffees are cheap too and run LARGE. Their cobb salad was surprisingly excellent. The chicken was marinated in a light lime dressing and was very tender. The avocado was very fresh and perfectly ripe, bacon portion was generous. There was no egg or cheese - odd but the avocado adequately supplied the creaminess. Staff are hipsters - but friendly, not surly ones. I requested a late in the game dressing substitution and the cashier must have checked with the line cook 3 times to make sure he accommodated me. Answer: he did. Stop in for the scones, stay for the hot chix. I've liked pretty much everything in their bakery case, but EL's scones are my favorite, esp. the cranberry coconut (Thursday) and raspberry white chocolate (Friday) varieties. Minor quibble with using Nutella as the filling in the chocolate croissant. I like Nutella, but Nutella isn't chocolate, plus it melts when baked and just isn't right for a croissant filling. Also, their cinnamon frosted croissants don't work for me - croissants' selling point is they're supposed to be light and flaky, but they cannot be that when burdened with cinnamon roll goop. EL's dark roast coffee is pretty good, though I wish they would fill the cup instead of defaulting to "leaving some room." The coffee drinks, you wonder? Meh, I wish they'd crush Starbucks on price or quality but they don't on either. That's some expensive hot milk you got in your hand there, sucka! The soups and sammiches are all fine-to-dandy. They make a good soup. Advice for the proprietor: Don't sell the small, it's too small and makes your customers feel ripped off, whereas $6 for the large that is a genuinely hearty portion seems fair and in line with financial district lunch spots. The sammiches at EL are dee-licious, which is good, cos they're not the cheapest you'll find in the fi-di. The help? Oh, my, the help! This used to be my go-to lunch spot. The staff is friendly, the food is good, and it's across the street from my office. HOWEVER, today was the third time I had ordered a salad with an addition (curry chicken, chicken salad, sliced turkey, etc.), that was left off my order. When I was handed my salad, I was specifically told it was a Garden salad with curry chicken, but when I got to my office, I noticed it was just a tupperware of lettuce and onions. The drip coffee in my hotel wasn't doing it for me. I knew I needed REAL coffee. Something that was roasted and ground sometime this decade. And due to my lactose issues - something with soy! I happened upon Espresso Love and ordered my old stand bye - large soy latte. And it was good. Really good. Rich. Great coffee flavor. Hot enough to warm me, but not so scalding I had to let it sit for 10 minutes before sipping. The food menu looked great - the pastries in the case were quite tempting. I had lunch there after doing the Freedom Trail tour. I found this place courtesy of Yelp. It was great, it was around midday and there were quite a few white collars in there on their lunch break. The place was neat and clean with seating upstairs and the staff were very nice as well. A great coffee and sandwich shop in Downtown Boston that evokes memories of hot summers in Martha's Vineyard, Espresso Love serves up a solid ice coffee and great, hearty sandwiches in the financial district. Throughout last summer, Espresso Love was my go-to coffee stop on my walk from the ferry pier to work - or if I had a few minutes between downtown meetings. The staff are always friendly, and the service quick. On most occasions, I stick to a large ice coffee, but on my recent visit, I tried the "Chicken Avo BLT" - plenty of chicken, warmed, and with fresh avocado on toasted sourdough. Overall, a great sandwich, and I'll be returning to try others named for famed places in Martha's Vineyard, which is home to Espresso Love's other location in Edgartown. I first found Espresso Love in the Vineyard and I couldn't believe my luck when I found it on Yelp while searching for a breakfast place in Boston. Espresso Love again? Yes please! Well they didn't disappoint. I had the Broad Street Breakfast Sandwich. It was delicious! The coffee was good and great price. The atmosphere is very modern, much unlike the EL in MV. I prefer the atmosphere and decor of the location on the Vineyard but this location was very nice too, just in a different way. I work in the area so I've walked passed this place a few times. I decided to give Espresso Love a try for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised by how good my sandwich was. I tried the Katama Chicken sandwich ($8.50) . the chicken comes out warm. The pepperjack cheese + chipotle aioli gives the sandwich a nice kick to it. My favorite part was their freshly baked fresh focaccia bread - the bread was very soft and complemented the sandwich well. After I finished my sandwich, I decided to treat myself with a chocolate chip cookie ($2.50). Unfortunately, that left me disappointed. The cookie wasn't moist and soft, but a little stale. Excellent espresso flavor to the latte, with a caramel after-note. Only warm though...possibly to slow the dissolution of the foam, which may have been a bit too thick/dry. The croissant had some butter in it, but I don't think it was all butter from the middling flavor, and the texture wasn't quite as crackly as it should be. The blueberry scone had good blueberry flavor and no off notes, but the texture is more like a muffin with a crunchy top than a scone. In all, I will probably come back for the pretty-good coffee, but I am hoping to find better cafe-pastries in the area. read more

Came here for lunch and it was really impressive. The desserts and pastries in the case were incredibly enticing, and everything sounds delicious. Good luck if you have room though, because their sandwiches are HUGE! I got the "mama" and it was amazing, and could have easily been two meals. The honey mustard sauce was delicious. My co-workers ordered a variety of sandwiches which were all huge. One thing everyone commented on was the use of real, good quality chicken. It looked juicy and plentiful. The breads were tasty and fresh. My coffee, the "Spanish Coffee" was really yummy as well. I love that they offer almond milk and soy milk as options. Chill coffee and tea cafe in the heart of downtown. The interior is reasonably spacious with lots of windows. It's brighter than Starbucks but not quite as comfy, better for a grab-and-go breakfast than sitting awhile. Service is adequate and the lines inside move quickly even when they're long. ELove's menu of coffees, teas, and other drinks is quite extensive and rotates seasonally. They also have a wide variety of pastries and sandwiches, all of which look quite tasty. The pumpkin spice black tea I ordered was OK, but it didn't taste much like pumpkin spice. I'd recommend trying something else. Espresso Love's biggest problem is their wifi - or rather, the lack thereof. It's intermittent at best, possibly useful for reading BuzzFeed since you can load 12 articles at once but definitely not serviceable for doing actual work. read more
