Second coffee of the day as we continued to walk around the North End this morning. Caffe Lil Italy was on the way down the hill from the Copps Hill Burying Ground so this was a great opportunity to rest feet before continuing on. It's a small spot with a variety of espresso-based coffees, breakfast sandwiches and baked goods. Mrs. K. and I split a great latte that was delicious and refreshing and invigorating. Great coffee and a great price! Sometimes in this city it feels like you have to take out a loan to get a cup of coffee- not at Caffe Lil Italy though. The cafe itself is tucked away on Salem street and has a nice warming vibe. The decor inside is cute and feels like a European street. We ordered ahead and got the Iced Americano and the Iced Mocha. When we got there we told them we had ordered online and our drinks were already ready! Really fast service! Both were priced really well and both were really good! I did like the Americano a bit more (and this is coming from someone who prefers dessert coffee). Both were really flavorful and a great start to our day. I'll definitely be back to get more coffee and try some of the food! read more

A simple but picture perfect cafe on an out of the way corner on Boston's North End, Caffe Lil Italy is a nice spot for morning coffee and Italian vibes in the neighborhood. We enjoyed lattes in the corner window seat. With views of the Old North Church and nonnas making their way with groceries down the crooked streets, it was enough to make you think you were in Europe and not Boston. read more

Thankful to have found Caffe Lil Italy on the Monday of our week in Boston, tagging along for a conference. We enjoyed 3 breakfasts here (bringing along husband on Friday). We tried several versions of their breakfast sandwich and my oldest daughter tried the everything bagel with cream cheese. All were tasty! Cappuccino and mochas were also enjoyed some mornings. It does have limited seating, so plan accordingly ~ we ate in the upstairs space one morning. We saw lots of locals ordering carry out, always a good sign. Whenever we return to Boston ~ we will return to Caffe Lil Italy. read more

My friend and I came here for breakfast and coffee. Cute little corner cafe. I wanted the strawberry smoothie but all they had left was peach so I decided to get the iced mocha. It was good, just no sugar so I added a packet of Splenda, and then it was perfect! My friend did get the peach smoothie which was yummy. For breakfast, I got the bacon and egg on an everything bagel which was good. It was about $11 for all of that, which to me seems over priced but it is the north end so expected. read more

I love this place!! Small spot, so not ideal for huge groups, but they also have a back room if you need more space. It has a very mom-and-pop feel to it. I don't know what they put in their bagel sandwiches, but my god, they are so delicious. I get the everything bagel with sausage and it is always perfect. What a gem of a coffee house! It's in the perfect location looking directly at the Old North Church on the Freedom Trail in North End. My husband and I got an espresso and latte and just felt like an incredible way to start the day. Add a yogurt parfait and a poppyseed muffin and it just gets better. I was lucky enough to find this hidden gem during my first trip to Boston (thank you Freedom Trail), and it has since become a routine of mine when it's warm-ish outside. Go to Caffe Lil Italy, order a latte and a muffin, then walk to Long Wharf and enjoy while dangling my legs over the harbor and staring aimlessly into the horizon. Any worries simply melt away. Since Caffe Lil Italy is a small, neighborhood coffee shop, it accepts cash only. This place happens to be one of the few reasons I ever carry cash. Also, it seems that Caffe Lil Italy has many patrons, as every person who walks in is greeted by name by the staff and other customers. It's a welcome change of pace to the go-go-go attitude of the busy city. Also, true to any place near Little Italy, you can expect futball on the television. The espresso is high quality here, and the baristas are generous with the syrup. This makes for a very sweet, fulfilling latte that will keep you coming back for more. Now, onto the food. Best muffins ever. They are seriously HUGE... and only $1.75! I tried to take a picture before I started eating it, but I was too excited. I was happy to stumble upon this little coffee shop right after parking and walking the North End. As much as I would love to give this another star or two, I cannot. It's definitely too pricey for what it is. My medium cappuccino and a banana were just over $5. I can deal with that. BUT the cappuccino was so light in weight so I opened the top and it was mostly foam. It was about 2/3 full. A medium hot chocolate was about $3 too which I think is ludicrous. For the specialty drinks i can understand and justify it, but not for a hot chocolate. They had a nice assortment of pastries and muffins that looked delicious and fresh. Overall, it's an OK coffee shop. I would stop here again since it seems like the best one in the area. read more

We were so grateful to find this cozy gem of a breakfast spot on our recent family vacation in Boston. The breakfast sandwiches are made fresh and are tasty (we all had the bacon, egg + cheese on an English muffin) as are the homemade muffins. Not impressed. The bagels are definitely grocery store bought, but the iced coffee was satisfactory, so an extra star. The service here is... weird. The "cashier" present was clearly the daughter of the woman working there and she seemed to be like 8-10 years old. Questionable at best. I also noticed my card was charged more than the amount I was told, probably added a tip without my knowledge. It's just a tourist trap in one if the most touristy spots in the neighborhood. Don't waste your time and money here, a bagel with nothing on it and not toasted plus an iced coffee cost over $6. No thanks. read more

Friendly staff and tasty treats! Walking around the north end of Boston, wanted a cup of coffee, we stopped in here to get one. Bought a latte with caramel and an oatmeal rasin cookie. The latte was fresh, hot, foamy and full of flavor. Very nice! Oatmeal cookie was a little dry, but the cookie itself was so good with the latte, it was like they were made to be together! We stopped in this last saturday to get out of the elements and get a drink. First the whole cafe seems very quaint and nice, it has a good atmosphere, I noticed how they have the windows so during good weather you can open them up and it would feel like you were drinking outdoors. I had a peach iced tea, my girlfriend had the banana caramel hot chocolate which she thought was very good. It tasted too caramel, not enough banana or chocolate for me, but hey, if she likes it, that's all that matters. No credit cards, cash only.
