Since I was in Boston, I definitely needed a slice of Boston creme pie. It was delicious! I would love to try their coffees and other pastries next time I come by :) Lines get long for lunch and things do sell out quickly so plan on either waiting or coming a bit earlier. Went out this morning in the snow for a nice coffee and pastry to take in some fresh air and decided on flour bakery + cafe. I do not go out for coffee much anymore due to the convenience and cost effectiveness of a Breville and am often frustrated paying over $5 for mediocre coffee, but flour cafe was not in this boat. Their cappuccino had the balance of flavor and aesthetic for a pleasant drink for my wife and I. Even better was the fact that these drinks were served by someone with a warm spirit and smile.. hard to get great service these days. Also, I am not eating flour until March but my wife said the ham and cheese croissant was incredible: generous portion of ham and cheese, baked to perfection, and not too bread(y). The bottom line: 4.5 stars for good coffee, quick service, and killer pastries (especially when warm). The cinnamon bun was soft, supple, and had just the right amount of cinnamon and glaze. Warmed, it was oh so tasty paired with the black house drip coffee. (Bit of a coffee snob and whatever beans they had were in point and well brewed.) The ham & cheese croissant had a delightful amount of crackle and sharp cheese flavor. The breakfast sandwich was good, with a pillowy brioche bun, but a bit too much dressing and the egg and other contents could use a flavor punch. This place was busy & has an awesome display of pastries. They are most visually appealing. We tried the sour cream coffee cake. It was dry and baked days ago. The granola with yogurt was made yesterday too. It was soggy. The egg sandwich was terrible. It was apparently a microwave creation. I threw it away. The coffee was decent. The chocolate cream pie is very rich but not at all too sweet. I would recommend for those who like desserts that have depth and a darker/richer flavor. A bit more pricey than other options, but the quality of the chocolate tastes good. Tasting the crust on its own reveals it has a pleasant, mild flavor. Some bites of the crust had a sort of nutty flavor almost. The cream on top was a good balance to the richer flavor of the chocolate, although the richness is still very strong (almost to the point of being overpowering, but not quite). The Hummus sandwich was the best I've ever had. They toasted the focaccia bread and it combined so well with the fresh hummus, carrots, cucumbers, mint and savory sauce. It truly was delicious and I didn't even have the chance to take a beautiful photo cuz I ate it so quickly! yum yum. read more

There's a reason Flour Bakery is always busy & has a line every time... the food is just that good, when it is good. I remember the first time I tried Flour, a couple years now, at their Back Bay location and was impressed by their sandwiches. Nowadays, I will grab a bite from Flour every now and then but it is hit or miss. I usually get the smoked turkey sandwich, avocado toast, or achiote chicken sandwich. Depends on the day and how I'm feeling. I suggest if you plan to grab and go, definitely order through the app first to pick up. If you order in person, it could easily take 30ish minutes for take out (not dine in) order. Having gone to a couple Flour locations in the past, the wait is the worst part. Really good eats here! The broccoli cheddar soup was pretty salty but very flavorful and Hearty. The sticky bun was great- fluffy soft bread and plenty of pecans. Also very much enjoyed trying the half sizes of the mushroom melt sandwich, the Butternut Squash sandwich, and the achiote chicken sandwich. The raspberry oat bar was nice too, and the carrot cake was very moist and with a lot of cream cheese frosting that wasn't overly sweet. There are seating areas downstairs and upstairs which include bar seats and benches and regular chairs, as well as an elevator to the second floor. The staff were very professional and friendly and we saw them help visually impared customers with great courtesy. The only thing I would skip is the chai latte- it tasted pretty bland. read more

While the displayed sweet treats and breakfast pastries looked tempting, we opted for the savory Applewood-smoked bacon sandwich. Is this the best Boston Cream Pie? I couldn't tell you, this is the only one tried. It was my first stop and I was so satisfied I didn't bother going anywhere else! Every item on the dessert rack looked like I'd been lovingly baked from scratch. It's a wonder I didn't order everything. The Boston Cream Pie was decadent on top but light underneath. It was worth the drive up from NJ for sure! Although I came for one pie, I actually fell in love with another: the coconut cream. It was a little thicker and creamier than I was expecting, but it was perfect. The toasted coconuts on top were the best balance to the creaminess, and the CRUST, omg was so flaky and buttery I couldn't believe what was going on in my mouth. We also grabbed a slice of veggie pizza, and ended up loving that too. It's baked to perfection, with the veggies on top getting a slight crisp. Full of great flavor too! The cafe is huge! Bar seating and table seating galore. Its wide open and well lit, so no bumping into people at all while you're browsing the baked goods. This is an essential Boston stop in my book! read more

The hype about this place is unnecessary. I don't know why people think it's that good cause it isn't. Aside from that the layout of this place is really dysfunctional. You can barely walk in since people are waiting around in line cause there is only one register. Seriously? Makes no sense. You have to order, wait for your order & people are all congregating around the door since that's where the bakery case is & where you order. Not only do they no make enough pumpkin items for the season but there isn't enough variety & they sell out fairly quickly so maybe they don't want to make more money. Hey Cuties (: I fell in love with this spot on my visit to Beacon Hill. It's the absolute go to for all the hard working medical staff at Massachusetts General Hospital and its visitors. Good place to go to watch life happen since it's next to Mass' General with it's giant glass walls and outdoor seating. Since I've gone carnivore I don't eat the sugar and flour stuff but I can still feast with my eyes. And what a feast it was to see all the in house goodies they make. They only have one cashier to take orders, so sometimes lines go out the door around breakfast time, but wait time for ordering and getting your order are usually within ten minutes each. Their breakfast egg sandwich is unique with a spongy egg filling and tangy dijon flavor. Their famed sticky bun with heat has a smoky, meaty flavor. Personally, the flavors aren't my favorite, but they are definitely well thought out and unique. The prices are reasonable for the area, and the ingredients are fresh. My mom got the avocado toast which had poached egg, pickled fresno chili, cotija cheese, salsa verde, cilantro on multigrain toast. The beef & barley soup hit the spot, and we couldn't finish the sandwiches because they were huge (esp the cubano - have to split). I had seen this bakery I had seen many times on the Food Network. There was only one thing I wanted, their sticky bun. It was served warm and gooey, with loads of chopped pecans on top. I don't eat many pastries nowadays, but this place knows how to make them. I also had a cup of chai to warm me up, a little on the milky side as opposed to the spiced side, but still very satisfying. Since I wasn't feeling well, I bit the bullet and took a bottle of their veggie juice, which wound up being my appetizer while I waited for the sticky bun and chai. Very flavorful blend, and it was funny that after I drank it, I didn't feel sick the rest of the day. I'm not suggesting magical healing powers, but I did feel much better afterwards. We came here spontaneously for brunch because the popular spot next door had a line out the door. So glad we stumbled upon this spot! Ambiance is super cute - we sat at a bar facing the windows and got plenty of sunlight. The restaurant was bustling, but service was pretty quick and friendly. We tried the baked french toast, which was dense and satisfying and delicious. If you don't normally enjoy french toast like me, I highly recommend giving this a try! I also got a london fog to sip on, and it was pretty standard earl grey tea bag + milk, nothing fancy. We also got a grilled cuban style sandwich and a layered cakr slice which I don't see on the menu, maybe it was seasonal. A favorite catered lunch at the office by all my coworkers! The menu is amazing. Ordering via email or the website is simple. They always are willing to make changes a few days beforehand. The best salad is the chopped Greek... the green goddess dressing is amazing! My new favorite sandwich is the mozzarella...the grilled bread is so tasty! The pesto is without nuts too!
