Every time my parents visit they request to come here (and my father is Greek so he is used to good Greek food). My favorite meals are the avgolomeno soup, youvaralakia, and the arni yoivetsi! What a gem in the heart of Greektown! I've been wanting to try this place out since it opened, but just haven't gotten the chance until now. I love Greek food, but haven't been to a really great Greek restaurant since I lived in Chicago; this place certainly comes the closest. First off, the ambience is lovely. It is a lovely oasis and you forget about the hustle and bustle of Eastern Avenue just outside the doors as you are welcomed by cases of freshly prepared baked goods. The restaurant is just past the bakery and has a very nice bar and well-appointed dining room. We were seated very quickly by a friendly hostess who let us know bread is baked fresh each day, and some would be brought out to our table shortly. True to her word, a basket of hot, fresh,well-seasoned bread was delivered to the table momentarily. Our glasses were promptly filled with water and were never empty over the course of the evening. (I particularly appreciate how quickly and quietly the glasses were refilled, almost unnoticeably, which to me, is a hallmark of exceptional service.) Service was exemplary all around from beginning to end, from every single employee with whom we interacted. I'd say it was every bit as good as the service you get at the Charleston, which is high praise. Five stars for service, unquestionably. I'd actually give this a 4.5 star review if that were possible, but since it wasn't, I had to give it 4 stars. The food was excellent overall, but I couldn't give it 5 stars because there were a couple of glaring misses in terms of dishes that were grossly under seasoned. We started with the traditional dolmades and the plaka mezze spreads. The dolmades were excellent and perfectly seasoned grape leaves stuffed with rice and minced beef; I highly recommend them. The plaka mezze comes with 4 spreads: hummus; melitzonosalata (eggplant dip); tzatziki; and taramas. The hummus and meltitzonosalata were both grossly under seasoned, as in I'm not sure if any salt was put in there at all. I don't think it's possible a chef tasted these after preparing them, because there's no way he/she would send it out if they had. I can't remember the last time I had to ask for salt at a restaurant, that's how many years it's been. After adding salt they were better, but because it was standard table salt, only marginally so. The taramas was outstanding, though, and my friend loved the tzatziki. The pita served with the dips was warm, fresh, and delicious. I ordered the avgolemono soup to start. A very generous bowl came out with more fresh, warm bread. Unfortunately, this too was very under seasoned. After adding salt, though, it was quite good with very nice flavors. (I could see myself ordering this again to-go, taking it home and salting it with kosher salt at home.) I'm not sure if tonight was just an off night for the three dishes that were under seasoned, or if the recipes don't call for enough salt, but these were the only dishes that were misses. That aside, the flavors were still quite good, so if they figure out how to incorporate the right balance of salt, all three dishes would be outstanding. The rest of the dishes were all hits. I ordered the moussaka, which is always my go-to so long as it's made with beef and not lamb. The moussaka was delicious, well seasoned, and a very generous portion. My friend ordered the short rib béchamel, which was also very good. The short rib was fork tender, and again, a very generous portion. I think the moussaka was definitely the better of the two, but both were quite good. We also ordered sides of lemon potatoes, beets, and spinach rice. Portions were very large, and all three sides were exceptionally flavorful and well seasoned. From a value perspective, I think this restaurant might be the best value for your money of any restaurant in Baltimore, or anywhere else for that matter. The portions are HUGE, and the quality is really exceptional, even with a few small misses, which I'm hoping are just one-offs. The incredible service puts this place over the top for me. I'm going to start recommending it to all of my friends as a regular place we should be working into our rotation. They have a brunch menu that looks amazing. The bar is very inviting, so I definitely want to try out their happy hour specials during the week, too. read more

Came here for a girl night out dinner on a weeknight and was immediately blown away by the ambiance of this restaurant! GORGEOUS inside that captured the vibes of Santorini. Lots of seating available as well. They were accommodating with a high chair which is a plus too. We found out that happy hour is only at the bar, but they had an extensive wine and cocktail menu with some beer and other options too. We got a white and red wine and both were great ($13 per glass). For food we split the dip starter which came with a small portion of 4 different dips and pita. All were yummy. I ordered off the specials menu and got lamb which was delicious. It came with soup and mini desert for $22 which I thought was a good price. Everyone in my party was pleased with their meals! Service was pretty good, but we felt that our waitress didn't check in enough, but nbd. Staff was friendly overall. Will definitely be back! I wasn't a huge fan of the food here. To me, it's a bit overpriced and underwhelming in flavors and taste. Maybe it's because I had high hopes just returning from my wedding in Greece. Maybe it is unfair for me to compare. But the prices at this restaurant are similar to restaurants in Greece, but you definitely get better quality and flavors in Europe. My dad and I came for a late lunch around 4pm Sunday. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated quickly. The interior is brightly decorated to give an airy, light feel. Our server (I think his name was Paul) was attentive and very nice. We ordered the crab balls appetizer, a Greek salad to share, the roasted chicken dinner, and moussaka. Everything was delicious, especially the crab balls, which were almost entirely made of sweet lump crab meat. On our way out, we grabbed several sweets from the bakery. Although unassuming from the outside, the inside of the restaurant is a mix of warm and cold materials adorned with beautiful greenery and wooden beams. Food was good. We ordered a wide selection of items to share and I particularly enjoyed the crispy potatoes from the Traditional Eggs Benedict, the savory shakshuka sauce, and the creamy French toast. I felt that the restaurant's strength were there desserts. If you are to order a dessert, you should get the Galaktobouerko which is a Greek custard pie filling inside a phyllo dough, or you should get a Sokolatopita which is a rich Greek chocolate cake with chocolate ganache. This beautiful restaurant is a gem in Greektown. The inside has a chic elegance with a NY feel. Such an amazing ambiance, with a menu and quality to match. The owner came over and introduced himself. While he could have very easily chosen a different location, I love that he wants to revitalize the area. The salads were a nice size. Their fresh pasty selection in the bakery area is so reasonably priced that you can't help to walk out with a bag full of delights. This restaurant far exceeded my expectations, this is not your average Greek town restaurant in baltimore. First off, their bakery in the front of the restaurant is incredible: huge selection of traditional Greek pastries you won't find in other Greek restaurants, very good prices, and everything not only tastes amazing but looks beautifully made as well. The restaurant itself is very tasteful and elegant, it reminds one of the mediterranean without being tacky or over the top. And the service was fantastic, our server Dulce, took great care of us. Finally, the part we all really care about: the food. Everything we had was fantastic but I highly recommended the fried red mullets and the grilled octopus. Both were perfectly cooked and seasoned. We ended the meal with some excellent desserts- the galaktoboureko was the best I've ever had (not just in baltimore, but best ever in the States). We came to Plaka for dinner tonight (Wednesday). We did make a reservation but didn't need to as it wasn't crazy busy. We got there at 7:30pm. The ambiance is stellar. I mean absolutely perfect. The decor, music, cafe, & bar were so pretty. Took me back to Greece. We got the Greek salad, baked feta in phyllo, sea bass carpaccio, and garides (shrimp) saganaki, plus the grilled bread. We loved the Greek salad and the baked feta in phyllo. Get the baked feta it was soooo good!!! But the sea bass and shrimp were not our favorite. The sea bass needed a sauce and the shrimp were head on that's fine but not the best taste and size. The bread was absolutely delicious. I would say a good place for vegetarian foods at least for this trip. I will try other items on the seafood side in the future. Our server was wonderful her name is Dulce. The wine selection was nice and had a good variety. I got the Lu La Di which was light and fresh! Delicious! We will come back for sure. We did get to go pastries for breakfast tomorrow to try. My wife was so hype to try Plaka so of course I had to take her to lunch. Parking wasn't too difficult. We only had to walk about a block which is light work for us. We walked and noticed the cute vibe in the place immediately. We took our seat as we anxiously awaited ordering. We put in our orders with really high hopes as we love love love Greek food. We started with the cheese. It wasn't flaming which is just a personal preference and it didn't come with anything to eat it with. They brought us bread after asking but I'm still confused about them wanting me to eat melted cheese with a spoon. I moved on the my pork gyro platter. We all know pork is fatty, that was no problem. The problem was the seasoning. It was non existent. I also had to ask for tzatziki sauce. Never have I ever had to ask for sauce. Was i expected to eat it dry because of the tomatoes? I was truly baffled. The food was not my idea of a good time but I will say the place is cute, the service is nice and the desserts were pretty good. I don't know where to start lol We had a reservation. When I first initially walked in. I entered the bakery side and was greeted by a young lady who told me to walk down the steps and turn right to the hostess. However as I stood there this man was looking up the steps at me and waved(found out later on he was the owner) After that we were greeted by our server Sophia! Then she explained the dishes and I asked her was I pronouncing the entrees correctly. we had Bronzino which I love! It was very flavorful and fresh! We had the greek salad, it was delicious. I thought it would have lettuce however it did not but it was really good! The lamb was tender and juicy. The anchovies were a first for me because I am not into eating raw seafood beside oysters The horta (green vegetables) were also a first and good. (taste like spinach) The ambiance was so comforting! Contemporary, aesthetically appealing and pleasing! Especially because I am a minimalist! I love baked goods so I will be back for that part of the restaurant soon. This place is excellent! They have an extensive menu with all the Greek restaurant staples but also some playful dishes like Barbouni tartare. They get the basics right: the bread comes out grilled and fresh. The tzatziki is homemade and delicious. You can taste the garlic and fresh yogurt. There is also an extensive bakery with lots of scrumptious Greek Pastries. The interior of Plaka is also gorgeous. They did an outstanding job renovating the building. Prices are low, portions are big, flavor and taste are there for most dishes. For dinner- the prices are good and portions are big, BUT the flavor and taste were not there in anything we got. The Vibes- 9/10: This place has no business looking this great on the inside. Look outside or try to park and you go ...uh where are we? ... .but step inside and you are transported to Europe. I felt like the inside got pulled out of a restaurant in Miami and placed in GreekTown Baltimore. The Service-10/10: Couldn't have gone better. Been here multiple times. Every time the service is top tier. If they don't know something they find out, if they can make a dish better for you they will. The Drinks- n/a: They are pretty standard. Estiatorio Plaka is a wonderful addition to Greek Town and the Baltimore food scene. My first dining experience at Plaka was today for brunch. We accidentally walked into the cafe/bakery entrance which was fortunate as we got a sneak peak of the baked goods and to-go offerings. We were then kindly shown the dining room. It's a gloriously bright, open and comfortable space. And I should mention how incredibly welcoming and warm everyone at Plaka is, we were greeted with genuine smiles. The menu is extensive and even the most discerning will find something to enjoy. The portions are also generous. We tried the Breakfast Bougatsa as well as the Bougatsa French Toast, the Plaka Mezze spreads (spicy feta was so good!), the Kalamakia and the Souvlaki pita. The fresh, homemade pita bread was a highlight. The chicken was juicy and lemony. The french fries were crisp and perfectly seasoned. Don't forget to order something from the bakery to go. I'd recommend the ravani cake and the portokalopita. I'd imagine dinner at Plaka is just as good and I'm looking forward to finding out. read more

Our party of three visited this Greek restaurant and bakery for lunch. The eatery consisted of the restaurant and an attached bakery / cafe named Plaka Bakery. There were separate entrances as well as an interior walk through connection. Both are owned by same entity. The interior of the restaurant was large and very nicely decorated. We shared appetizers of grilled octopus and pita bread & dips. The miranated octopus was so tender and flavorful. There were 4 type of homemade dips with the pita bread plate. Each dip was so fresh and delicious. For entres, we had chicken Kalakamia, lamb chops, and chicken Skepasti. Sides that came with our main entres were fries, pita breads, roasted lemon potatoes, and Greek lemon soup. All three proteins were seasoned and cooked well. The sides were well cooked and tasty also, especially the Greek lemon soup. The Greek lemon soup had rice and sliced chicken in a savory broth with a nice hint of citrus. We would return just for the soup. Our server, Nikki was friendly and efficient. Even though she was the only server working, our water glasses never went dry and our plates were removed promptly. After lunch, we stepped into Plaka Cafe to get some bakes to go. We got baklava, kataifi, and croissant. We had it with our afternoon coffee at home. All tasted fantastic. My mom and I went to Estiatorio Plaka for lunch on a Wednesday and it was excellent! She is a picky eater and raved about the food. She even bought an extra spanakopita to bring home (among all the other leftovers she had to bring home because she ordered a million things off the menu to try them). The service was super fast and they were made aware that I had a work meeting I needed to get back to before a certain time. Quick service is always appreciated regardless! There were only a few other small parties in the restaurant at the same time as us, and we went around 12:15. Highly recommend for lunch! read more

Very refreshing to enjoy a delicious Greek meal in Greektown, July 6,25 in a modern clean light and airy restaurant! We sat at the bar Dean was our wonderful bartender. We enjoyed a bottle of Greek red wine he recommended. For appetizer, we enjoyed the saganaki shrimp dish with toasted bread. The sauce was amazing. It was a red sauce with saganaki cheese that was melted. The shrimp were perfect and had some spice on them. We split the main course which was the special - grilled lamb, chicken and pork, with roasted Greek green beans and tomatoes, and lemon potatoes. It was very plentiful and delicious. I attended this restaurant for a baby shower and the food was so amazing. I had the KALAMAKIA which is the three chicken skewers served with Plaka fries, tzatziki and pita, the classic Greek salad and I absolutely loved the baked feta in phyllo which is feta wrapped in phyllo, drizzled with raw thyme-flavored Greek honey. The staff and servers were very attentive and friendly. I was very impressed by the decor and the beauty of the restaurant. It was very clean and pristine. It was super cute inside this spot with ambiance that would've been nice for a date night, girl's night on the town, or birthday outing. The plaka mezze with tarama, tzatziki, anchovies, and grilled pita was delicious while the grilled octopus wasn't very outstanding. We loved the whole Bronzino and the half rack of grilled lamb chops, while the cocktails left something to be desired. The reason for the three stars is because I felt like I had food poisoning the next morning and I think I may have contracted the bug here which sucks because my food was tasty and the service was good. read more

Service was great and the atmosphere is beautiful. The zucchini chip appetizer was delicious. The absolute highlight, though was the sokolatopita--I wished I had saved more room but I'll have it in breakfast. Delicious chocolate cake with yummy frosting and oozing syrup. Ok so i have been to Plaka a couple of times and to be honest i think the food is just fine, not much flavor, but just fine. Here is my breakdown. On the first occasion ordered a pork souvlaki, that thing was dry and flavorless, the greek salad was good, the sausage was ok, and the fries were phenomenal, lukewarm but phenomenal. On the second occasion ordered the mixed grill, within seconds that thing was on the table, meaning it is pre-cooked. Not much flavor, some meats were dry, its still edible if you will. All in all i think from a flavor standpoint meals are lacking, place is nice tho, but i will take Samos any day. They do have a baked good section with some nice selection. read more

Finally, after 20 years in Baltimore, a Greek restaurant that is beautiful, delicious and warmly hospitable. Having grown up In Athens, I can say that this restaurant reminds us of the best venues in Plaka ( the magnificent area overlooking the Acropolis). The food was impecable, prepared with the freshest ingredients, beautiful plated with perfect portions and save room for deserts! You can make a feast out of the appetizers alone. We started with the kalamari( the best I've had outside Greece), the loukaniko ( yummy traditional sausages) and the zucchini fritters with a delectable lemon sauce. I got the fish special which was huge, perfectly cooked and came with Greek oven potatoes and greens. Others got the lamb shank, grouper and a traditional meatball in sauce dish my Greek husband had not had since childhood. All were fabulous:). There is an extensive menu of wines and we had several by the glass. The atmosphere is lovely, not too noisy, relaxing impeccable decor. The waitstaff are obviously still learning a bit on the job, but the owner Philip was attentive and offered us free deserts when our waitress mixed up one entree. And the deserts! The mini galactoboureko were outstanding- each one was like a corner slice with crispy filo, cream filling and a drizzle of honey. The traditional orange cakes and walnut cakes were consumed to the last crumb. There is a large safe parking lot right outside the door. This is now our favorite Baltimore restaurant. There is also a wonderful bakery in front of you are looking for the perfect treats to bring home. Chicken was dry and bland, and short rib bechamel took way too long to be prepared appropriately and way off-putting and tasteless. Since I'm Greek, I visited Estiatorio Plaka for the 1st time and came away impressed. Holly was our server and she was beyond outstanding. The decour was beautiful and inviting. And the food was outstanding. I had the Kleftiko special which is a slow roasted lamb baked in phyllo dough. Simply delicious. It came with a bowl of soup so I had the avgolememo. It was excellent. My wife had the Greek chicken and potatoes and she said it was almost as good as my Mom's. Dessert was a tough choice but I had the Greek chocolate cake. Heavenly. There's a beautiful bakery and you have to bring some goodies home. Pricing was very reasonable too. I will definitely go back and highly recommend it. read more

After a grueling visit to IKEA, we needed a restorative light meal. And Plaka mostly delivered. The pita were superb. The dips also even if a touch mild. The raw fish was amazing and the soups very good even if they came underseasoned. The service started off a bit stiff and confused but became warmer as our meal progressed. The only meh dish was an overly complicated smoked eggplant and ricotta appetizer. We need to come back to try lots more of the delicious sounding dishes. And a whole fish. read more
