I just left this store and had to write this review. I normally don't leave low star reviews and I usually keep my mouth shut. if you say something insulting behind my back regarding my mom, that is utterly disgusting. One of the two ladies was Mary. And I don't know the other one. But the moment we went to the store, she wasn't as warm. And left us alone the entire time. When my mom wanted to inquire about a clearance item because we were interested in a China Cabinet that actually caught our eye (we didn't like the other selections they had. Both on floor and clearance) , we just wanted to know if there was a different color at that price. If not, all good. We are taking our time shopping for furnitures and no rush in buying. While my mom went to the bathroom, I overhear the two ladies saying this: "they probably don't have enough money", to which the other lady responded "maybe because you didn't help them out" Now, I don't care about your prices. But what I care about is the fact that you had the audacity to say about a potential customer and immediately talked and JUDGE us because we don't look a certain way. To anyone who comes here, I don't recommend and honestly this was the worst experience ever. Save yourself time and respect, because you will be better treated at Crate and Barrel, West Elm, Pottery Barn, etc. and better quality furniture because the ones they had displayed were beaten up. The delivery men aren't all that good at moving the furniture in without scratching your doors and walls, but that isn't the worst of it. I ordered a sofa in velvet and when it came it was obvious the material had been cut too generously for the pattern. Thus, both corners in the front of the sofa had wrinkles and puckers where the seam met the sofa skirt. I was unhappy, they sent out someone to steam out the wrinkles. But of course the wrinkles didn't come out... because the flaw was in sewing too much material into the pattern! My problem, not theirs. They said that was the "relaxed" nature of the style. (Hmmmm..... why didn't the sofa look like that on the showroom floor then?) DON'T waste your money. Go to Room and Board, or Crate and Barrel, or Restoration Hardward (RH.) We purchased sofas in Scottsdale to be delivered in San Luis Obispo. The sofas arrived over stuffed and hard, the cushions look wonky because they are not equally stuffed. I call and email Ethan Alan 2x weekly. Their California office in Pamona SUCKS!! They don't return calls, they don't respond to email WORST company EVER!!!! All I can say is just don't go there! I had a great experience ordering the furniture however it was out of stock. They seemed to have no problem billing us for the deposit immediately. 9 days later, we are still waiting on the deposit to be refunded. 2 calls later, we are still waiting on 2 different people to call back. After over a month of anticipation, you will be disappointed when you receive your order. It will not be what you expected. No quality control, you will be dissatisfied with the outcome, and when you complain, they will just give you promises, refer you to several people, each one telling you that they're not the right person to talk to. After a month of "someone will get back to you" nothing will be done about your complaint. My mistake is paying them in advance, they're greedy people, not concerned of the details of your complaint. I'm in the market for new living room furniture. Found an Ethan Allen sofa online that I thought would be perfect. I went to the store today to ask questions and look at fabric samples. When I walked up to the front entrance there was a woman standing inside the doorway who, upon my entering, quickly walked away and sat down at a nearby desk. No greeting. I walked through the entire store, room by room, heard some employee voices, never saw anyone and when I returned to the front of the store the woman had disappeared. So I left. I guess they didn't need a $2500 sale today. But what if I was planning on furnishing my entire home? I have had a great experience with Ethan Allen 20 years ago in another state. I met a wonderful designer named Patty. She listened to my ideas, came and looked at my home and my favorite pieces - and then put together a variety of fabrics and layouts for us to review. She got me! The process was fun (and painless) - and I happened to hit an amazing sale. Since then, we have kept in touch and she's helped me with questions and other needs. I've since been back to the Pasadena store a few times looking for other accessories, and this review is actually for one of their decorators, Nancy. She was extremely helpful, very knowledgable about the products, went out of her way to give me options and suggestions, went so far as to come to our home with samples - all without being too pushy or putting pressure on us to buy quickly. Beware of low quality from Ethan Allen. Over the past 13 years I have bought many items from Ethan Allen, probably spending north of $20K for furniture in the BR, LR and Kitchen. We recently bought a kitchen table and were distressed to find that the lacquered wood top blistered underneath a hot casserole dish that was on a trivet. We called our sales rep who arranged for a specialist to come look at it and see if it was covered under warranty. After a lengthy and cumbersome process, they let us know that they would not cover the table and under warranty. They claim it is our fault that we put a hot item on the table.... So it looks like we are stuck with a disfigured table. Needless to say our $1000+ investment is pretty much ruined after only a couple of months. so be forewarned-- the warranty isn't what they claim it is, and neither is the furniture quality read more

My husband and I just left Ethan Allen Furniture store. I was looking for living room furniture. The man sitting at the front desk said hello. I asked him where the living room furniture was located? He never got up from his desk to ask us any questions about anything. He just pointed and kept doing what he was doing. As we walked through the store, I saw three other employees. No one said a word to us. The older woman wearing a green blouse and with brown hair in a ponytail was talking to another employee turned around and looked at us and continued on with her conversation. About 5 years ago, I bought a new house and decided to splurge on Ethan Allen furniture. I bought almost every piece for every room from Ethan Allen. I spent an inordinate amount of money thinking that this will be the type of quality furniture to last me a long, long time. Almost immediately, from delivery, I had problems. The dining room table was easily scratched and little holes would form even though we barely used it and always had place settings or tablecloths. The chair cushions almost immediately gone flat. Our sectional pillows a year into their life were like pancakes. Lamp coating chips by just looking at it. We bought 3 beds. Two are made out of wood. They are so wobbly and shaky that they need to be adjusted and tightened monthly. Last straw was this week when one of the bed frames just fell apart while my son was sleeping on it. I had service out to my house so many times in the first year that it cost me more money in taking time off. Finally, I just gave up. When the bed broke this week, I thought I'd contact service once again. Turns out they have only one person dealing with warranty issues and she's been out since Monday. The store manager initially said that I would have to pay $65 for a visit from the service center to evaluate the situation and then they would decide whether or not to cover the repair work. After making a trip to the store twice, they agreed to comp the evaluation visit. It's Wednesday still no call from service and my kid didn't have a bed to sleep on. They just plain don't care - not about the quality of their products nor how it affects their clients. I had my contractor come out this evening to repair the bed. He said that there was definitely a design issue with it. Do NOT buy Ethan Allen furniture. It looks beautiful, but is made crappy. I'm paying my stupid tax for not researching the company prior to shelling out so much money. Mi wife and I have been purchasing furniture and custom drapes from Ethan Allen for over 30 years and have been happy with most of the items! However we just received our new sofa with custom pillows and drapes including a wool area rug for our family room and we are not happy at ALL ! To start the pillows! The colors don't go well with our new couch or drapes and for the cost they lack the quality and workmanship Ethan Allen is known for ! So today we got our new drapes installed and when I got home I was so disappointed with the color and design! When we first met with Greg we comment on the fact that our old drapes purchased from Ethan Allen were poorly designed and they should have been installed much higher to let more light in. And he promised our new drapes will be designed to the top of the ceiling ! I have purchased many items from EA over the last 20 years and love the quality of the pieces. A couple of years ago, alone, I spent $8k on some items including a Bombay chest -- purchased from the Pasadena location. The chest recently obtained a few scratches on top, and I called EA for a referral for a refinisher (the chest is a blend of colors). I have called EA's "refinisher" and their customer service department a dozen times over the last two weeks. EVERY time I am told I will receive a call back within 48 hours. I have not received a single call back. Do you really not want the business? Just say so -- you would have saved me two week's worth of aggravation! I have been a very loyal customer and I am appalled that I am being treated this way. I am in the market for a new dining room set, and I now know where I will NOT be shopping. I had an overall very positive experience with my recent purchase of a leather couch at this store (Nancy was very helpful). This one star review is for an awful experience with the design center manager Greg Boisvert, who was both extremely rude and unprofessional. So I came back to the store to shop for throw pillows to go with my couch. I had picked one that is currently on sale, $89 comparing to original price $234. Greg's staff Ashley helped me check and found there is only one in store but can also ship another one from Torrance store. And I was also told at the moment that they have a promo event 25% off the first 3 items. A few days later I was informed that the other pillow is here so I went back to check out the condition of it. While I was talking with Ashley, Greg came over and shouted to us "is she just buying the pillows? You go help the other clients and I'll take care of it!" I was a bit surprised because that didn't sound very polite, but I understand they might be busy at the moment. Then I asked Greg if they can give additional discount since the 2 pillows have been out for display for a while and I needed to do a dry cleaning on them. He shouted "NO, up to you if you'd take them at $89." I was like okay, that's fine, I'm just asking and you didn't have to be this short. So at that moment I had recalled the 25% off and inquired him. Again, he shouted (only this time even louder): "NO, these are already clearance items, YOU misunderstood the promotion." At that moment I was very upset not because I couldn't get the additional 25% off (after all the total price of the two pillows was not expensive), but because he insisted that it was not misquoted by his staff but a misunderstanding on my part. Even though he weren't there during my previous visit, he claimed that that's how he trained his team and he knew his team longer than he knew me, so of course the customer was wrong and his team was not. I decided not to take the pillows after all these unnecessary arguments. To be honest it's really not a big deal if they can't apply the additional discount and I'd probably got the pillows if he weren't being completely arrogant and unprofessional. But i think that's fine by him too because I'm "just getting the pillows" and apparently do not worth his time and customer service. Ashley, his staff, has been helpful though, I understand that she didn't want to contradict her manager especially he seems very mean to his staff. I might get more things from Ethan Allen in the future for a new place I'm moving to, because the unpleasant experience was with a specific individual not the entire store. I would recommend you to avoid doing business with Greg, who treats his staff and customer poorly (but at least he is being consistent I guess...). Also something I found hilarious about is that he was trying to calculate the % of discount on the pillow and couldn't figure out how, then he blamed on the calculator. With all the Ethan Allen purchases - and we've got a houseful since beginning purchasing in 1990 - we've had good experiences with the salesperson, but I have to say that our most recent experience, replacing two couches, a love-seat and an upholstered chair with expert help from Sheryl Johnson, a designer at the Pasadena store, was an absolute breeze. We're even more delighted with this furniture now that's it in our home. Sheryl noticed us cruising the store - we were looking for a specific sofa we'd spotted at the website - and came over, gently inquiring about our need. She really knew the product lines, and readily steered us to the pieces that answered our desires. Ninety minutes later we'd figured it all out and made the deposit. These were all custom-upholstered pieces, yet all but one of the pieces arrived at the warehouse early, a pleasant surprise, and the last one, a leather armchair, came in right on schedule! We notified the delivery scheduler that we would need the deliverymen to take the old couches out to the garage in order to be able to bring the new pieces in, and the deliverymen were perfectly fine with that challenge (the old queen sleeper couch was a real bear to get through our tight entry hall because a turn is required). This was a huge help for us; our old pieces were too big and heavy for us to wrestle out the door (yes, I did tip the guys generously, as this was above and beyond). So - call the store and book time with Sheryl Johnson (she's off mid-week). It won't cost you anything unless you buy something, and if you need someone to guide you into discovering your own tastes, I'm confident she'll ask the right questions to get you there. If you already know your tastes, she'll "cut to the chase", as the movie business expression goes, and help make what can be a grueling experience into something quite fun. read more

Ethan Allen was once a good company until the new president took over 30 years ago. From that point, it started on a slow decline in quality and customer relations. Now many things are made in China or Indonesia and not of good quality. I have had terrible experiences with them repeatedly delivering damaged furniture that had to be repeatedly returned and or reordered several times to get a good piece. They kept two completely paid for furniture pieces in storage as hostage refusing to have them delivered until I paid for a third damaged piece of furniture. They kept my money totaling $4900 including the deposit on the damaged piece and never refunded it. When the store in Pasadena, California closed from private ownership back to corporate ownership, they were to notify customers and deliver all paid for merchandise. They instead sold all my paid for furniture never refunding me the money nor giving me any notice they were going to sell the merchandise. The corporate store district manager of the Torrence location, Peter, an abysmal excuse for a district manager who was assisting in the acquisition, did nothing to make this situation right by saying the franchise had nothing to do with Ethan Allen Corporate. All he said was that my furniture was no longer in their inventory and tried to sell me more furniture. They deserve no stars. Never buy from them. read more

We bought some furnitures from this store and got some design consultation. This store has terrible customer service and all about collecting money. You sign the contract and pay half but they have no idea when the furnitures would be delivered. They tell you 2 to 3 weeks at the sign of contract but when I asked them about specific dates close to 3 weeks, they had no idea and just told me I have to pay the remaining balance when they arrive. The design service was ok but also designer does not consider your budget and gave you the most expensive items in the store. Anyways horrible customer service. If you ever buy something from here you have to follow up every time when things will be delivered! Pretty much when you pay the deposit which is non refundable you are all left alone!!! Upon delivery, the delivery men found the couch couldn't squeeze past the two door frames. As a man with a can do attitude, I cut the two back wooden legs off and was able to move the couch into my bedroom. In a panic and with two legs cut off from my couch, I called Tim at Ethan Allen and discussed my options. Beware! Over the years we had made several furniture purchases at Ethan Allen. But the last purchase we made convinced us that this is NOT the place for us to do business with. Two delivery men dropped off our purchase, and when they departed, we noticed that one of our prized figurines was missing. We called their showroom and requested to speak to the Manager. Well we were informed that he wasn't available, and a message would be taken. Two subsequent calls resulted in the same LACK of response. The Manager NEVER took the time to return our calls. Hiding one's head in the sand and living in denial that there is an issue is certainly NO way to do business. I would caution anyone having the MISFORTUNE of making purchases from this establishment to WATCH the delivery men like HAWKS! Do what we didn't. In time the joke will be on the owner of this store, since there is NO written law that their deliverymen won't steal from them. Ugh. I'm furniture shopping for some dining chairs and nightstands and in searching for decent stores, had a horrible flashback to our Ethan Allen experience! The short of it is, they just didn't want to help us. I don't know if it's because we were in casual weekend clothes or what. But we had money to spend and were ignored when we asked questions about the dimensions of a bed. We actually went on to their computer ourselves because we were tired of waiting around. That made them hustle over but all in all, they were dismissive and bitchy, and despite really liking the bed and dresser we were looking at, we didn't want to give any of those people a commission. I ordered an item for my friend's birthday in June and I finally was notified of the item available for pick-up FOUR months later. When I went in to pick up the item, I was told that because the sales tax had increased since then so I had to pay extra despite I paid the item in full back in June!! They insisted to charge me a dollar and sixty eight cents for an item I had paid before the tax increase. All I can say is STAY AWAY from this location. My wife has been buying from Dianna, store consultant, at the Ethan Allen, Pasadena store for over 20 years. She has spent thousands of dollars at this store. In addition to all the furniture, we had custom curtains and window coverings installed. About three weeks ago, my wife called Dianna to ask for the stores assistance on removing one of the window shades, since we would be remodeling our bathroom. I usually can take shades down but these, I couldn't figure out and they were expensive. Dianna told my wife she would take care of it. It is now three weeks later and our demo crew has to cover them because , Dianna and her overpriced store, never came over to take our window coverings down. As usual, they are helpful when you want to buy, after that, forget it. Terrible customer service, after the fact. P.S.
