The partner airline from Chicago to Manchester UK made me check in my carry-on baggage at the gate (since it was the smaller 757 craft), which never made it to Delhi, India. My family of 5 and my brother's family of 6 booked our flight with Etihad airlines on July 25, 2018, from JFK to Cairo, with a layover in Abu Dhabi. When we arrived in Cairo on July 26, 2018, our bags had not reached Cairo and we had to pay the arranged bus driver an additional day's pay to wait for our bags to come on the next flight. We were 4 adults and 7 children total. We had to wait in the rented bus overnight until the next Etihad airplane arrived. We live in a city that is 3 hours away from the airport. On our return flight which was August 25, 2018, we left Cairo at 1 AM and arrived at Abu Dhabi at 6:35 AM. This is the first time we use Etihad Airways. Upon arrival, we went through security checks and waited for the next flight out to JFK which was scheduled for 9:55 AM at the Abu Dhabi airport. We arrived at 9:20 at gate 61 with our boarding passes. We were denied entry by an Etihad Airways employee at gate 61 in Abu Dabhi. He did not explain anything to us. He just kept telling us to go to the transfer desk. When we got to the transfer desk, they told us that we had to rebook and pay for additional tickets. We could not understand why, since the airplane had not taken off yet. They gave us the telephone and asked us to speak to someone. We were not sure who we were speaking to. It turns out we were talking to a booking agent and he was trying to get us to purchase additional tickets to return to the US. We had paid for our return already. The plane had not left the airport yet, why did we have to pay? In the process of trying to understand the situation, my 8 year-old niece got lost in the airport as the children were extremely tired and it was very chaotic. In total, we paid 12,900 dollars to purchase one-way tickets back to the US. My family paid 6332.65 alone. I am disputing this charge with my credit card company. I would love if Etihad works with me to resolve this issue. I demanded to speak to a supervisor or manager and all representatives repeated the same words. There are no managers available. I'm not sure where to bring my complaint. The next day the US customs officer told us that we should NOT have left the gate and insisted to enter. They would have taken us in. They were there even after the plane had taken off. My family and I went through a nightmare using Etihad Airways. A 21 hour trip ended up being a 52 hour trip. We had to pay for tickets where we already had paid for prior. We paid double the bus fee for lost baggage. We paid for a hotel night in Abu Dabhi. My original booked flights were changed without my notification and when I discovered the fact, I was given a choice to preponed or postponed the flight. So I pre-panned the flight. Flight was delayed from JFK, NY. After boarding, it was taxiing on runway for 2 long hours. Because the plane was already on runway, neither you can get up nor do you get a glass of water! There was no announcement as to why we were parked on runway! They were Very uncomfortable and long 2 hrs. Food was par below the average and the portion was also very small! All the delays made us miss the connecting flight AUH-AMD. From Abudhabi to Ahmedabad, flight was old JET Airways which were very cramped! Didn't seem the world class airlines as they are advertising at all! Other airlines that I flew with before were much better than this. My coming back experience is even worse than this one. As I mentioned earlier my flights were changed by Etihad! We went to Etihad office in Ahmedabad to confirm our flights. I asked the official as to my meal options were 3 non vegetarian and one Asian vegetarian meal. And He said yes. When I did check in at Ahmedabad airport, I confirmed again my meal choices. AMD-AUH flight was on time. Again the seats are very cramped and food was horrible. The AUH-JFK flight was Etihad flight. After some time the airhostess, Natasha came and informed us that there was only fish option available as meal. My kids and husband didn't mind it. I said I asked for vegetarian! She flat out said she has no veg meal left! How's that possible! It's very first meal of the long 13 hrs flight. She was extremely rude and asked to show me my ticket print outs to verify my meal choices! I showed her my original booking which stated Asian veg meal. The new flight booking print out didn't have that specification but I made sure with Etihad personnel about it. When I took my ticket print out and went to the Galley to show it to Natasha, she wasn't there and other airhostess, Lubna gave me the veg meal in my hand without a second delay. When you have a meal, How can you deny it to the passenger on such a long haul journey? I asked Natasha the same question which she had no answer to it but she continued arguing with me that my new bookings which were made by Etihad without my knowledge did not have specific choice and that's why I'm not suppose to have veg meal! Can you believe that??? She said that according to her, the passenger info list doesn't show veg meal option for me! Now, how do I know what is going on at their side!
