First ever experience of Israeli food. In this case food very good atmosphere welcoming if a bit strange as the tv had anIsraeli football(soccer) final on with Israeli subtitles. Host been in London for some years before opening this "hole in the wall" deli for the last 25 years. Full of faded photos of family. Real homely place. Welcomed by helpful waitress who talked us through menu which may have well been written in Greek. Recommended special of the day oven braised lamb- excellent. No fat. Very soft and tasty. Offered a mint lemonade drink ( like a smoothie) again very refreshing. Wife had mixture of chicken , meat rolls and steak. Again good but not as good as my lamb. Six small plates of appetizers included pickled carrots chopped beets and pasta and cold slaw and more. All great and fresh. ThenIsraeli salad which seemed like diced cucumbers and tomatoes with some herbs. All delightful. At the end a bit full and after paying the bill as we sipped offer complementary chocolate wafer. We were in the area and asked the shop we were informed the best local restaurant. They said go next door. They were right. This place was legit. Prices are really affordable and the food was amazing. They start you out with these mini appetizers for the table to snack on before your entrees arrive. Ordered the shawarma plate and the falafel plate which came with fries, side salad and of course Hummus. Oh, and this isn't your ordinary Grocery store's Sabra Hummus.. this stuffs' the real deal! MAKE SURE to try their limonada. It's a concoction of frozen lemonade infused with mint. Tastes like a virgin mojito! We tried their baklava for dessert. It was a bit dry and hard to chew. I discovered this place by accident. I actually went to the next-door store to repair a suitcase, and while I was there, I noticed this place was packed! So, I checked out the menu and entered to request a table. It was a full house inside, and there was a couple of empty tables outside, so I ended up choosing an outside table. This is a very popular restaurant for the Jewish community. I'm not Jewish, but I could tell that most of the guests, and even those picking up orders, were from the Jewish community and spoke Hebrew. I suspected that if the local community eats here, they must have excellent plates. My suspicious were right. The menu is written in English and Hebrew and includes some pictures, which I found extremely helpful. After you take a seat, the waiter brings around eight appetizers in small bowls with different food such as sauerkraut, pickled radish, carrots, among others. And this in on the house, no charge. I ordered a chicken Shawarma in a wrap - everything in it, but they also offer it in a plate. The order came with french fries, and my husband ordered lamb shawarma. They were both DELICIOUS. To drink, please do yourself a favor and order the lemonade with mint. It is out of this world (if you visit the place on a summer day, this drink is a must.) The waitress was super friendly, the overall service was fast, and the affordable price was the icing on the cake. I will return to have the lamb on the plate and other delicatessens. I called to cater for a small group. Hardar was incredible! She helped me through, advising, and even offering to open for me off hours to accommodate my schedule and make sure it was fresh. When I went to pick up I was greeted as though I was family. A fabulous experience and the food was delicious and generous portions. We had lamb, beef and chicken. All very tasty. I always wanted to try this authentic Israeli restaurant but was disappointed. I ordered tabouli salad but for almost $10 it was a tiny dish and very dry. I barely tasted the lemon in it. Then tried for the first time a Tunisian sandwich which was ok. When I got the check I couldn't believe I paid $28. Not worth it whatsoever. Noticed they incorporated the tip in the bill and yet had another blank to fill in for yet another tip which was deceiving. I don't like this practice with no warning that tip was already included and sucker you to an additional tip if you are not noticing the bill closely. Very disappointed in this place and there are many other choices in the area to choose from. I won't be returning. read more

We stopped here on the way to a work appointment as it was in the neighborhood of where we needed to be and I was craving some sort of "middle eastern" food. This was like entering another world. Luckily I'd browsed other reviews and knew to expect a busy venue. We parked on a side street and walked over. Parking is very limited right in front of the restaurant. And we were luckily enough to be just ahead of the major lunch rush -- meaning that there were a few two-tops available. The menu is in English and Hebrew and you will hear a mix of both languages spoken. In fact, the waitress first greeted us in Hebrew but easily switched to English when she realized. Right after we sat down, we were inundated with little dishes -- vinegary carrots, marinated beets, two types of cabbage slaw, chickpeas, pickles and peppers, corn, etc. All were served cold each in its own little dish. We had to order the lemonana based on reviews -- a thick, slushy mix of lemon and chopped mint served very cold. Lemonade with tons of mint. Very refreshing, but if you don't absolutely love mint, try something else. For the main meal, we decided to share an appetizer combo plate and a small israeli salad. When they arrived, we realized there was the same salad on the combo plate so had we known in advance we might have ordered something else. Not to worry -- we took most of it home. The chef chooses what is on the combo plate, but basically it was some humus (chickpea dip), some babbaghanoush (eggplant dip), chunky eggplant in a tomato type sauce, israeli salad (chopped cukes and tomatoes with lots of parsley), 3 grape leaves stuffed with rice and spices, 3 fried felafel balls (ground chick peas made into a fritter like ball), and some tabouli salad (chopped parsley, mint, bulgur wheat, onion). On the side was served two fluffy pita bread rounds. After all of the mini tastes, we actually struggled to finish the combo plate. Everything tasted very fresh and well made. We watched as some neighboring tables got the daily hot special -- a combo of a stuffed pepper and a stuffed cabbage roll. Both were huge in size.. They have all kinds of sandwiches, meat entrees, and other choices. The menu is quite extensive. With some items, I'd never heard of (nor might I want to order. Chicken hearts?) . So, if you have some some knowledge of the cuisine, dive right in. I plan to come back to venture a bit further into the menu. And if you are adventurous, give it a shot. You'll feel like you've gone to another country (another world?), right here in Miami-Dade. read more

This is a great choice if you want to try real Israeli food. I made the mistake of confusing it for a Jewish deli. It's not at all. All welcome here and they have a great menu with lots of items to explore. Not everything may be available at the time of arrival though. It's a small restaurant that fills rather quickly and they offer limited parking and outdoor seating. Really liked the mint tea. I had the Israeli breakfast and my friend had the bagel & lox their way. Yes, they are open on Saturdays. This is my second time here and I really enjoy it each time I go. You will be offered a small plate of tapas when you are seated, take some or take all. That in itself is almost a meal. Portions are on the larger size, prices are not. I've heard great things about this restaurant so I dragged my dad and his friend for lunch. The place was packed but we were seated right away. We were brought out a ton of cold yummy salads (the cabbage was my favorite and I asked for seconds) I also ordered Lemonnana (frozen lemonade with mint) literally amazing! It brought me back to Israel and laying on the Tel Aviv beach drinking this liquid heaven. I also ordered a schnitzel entree with fries and Israeli salad- AMAZING! My dad and his friend split whole grilled branzino. It was also really yummy. Super fresh, flakey and perfectly grilled. For years I've been driving by wondering when would be the best time to experience true authentic middle eastern cuisine. Everyone I do I always forget that they close for Shabbat on Fridays. One Saturday morning, in route passing by, why not just wing it and see what they have to offer. So very glad I did. Upon arrival they put out between 5-8 complementary appetizers including pickled cabbage, beets, carrots, pasta & more. and their menu has many options of both authentic Israelian and Middle Eastern foods to choose from. This hole-in-the-wall Israeli place will transport you right back to Israel with traditional dishes. The restaurant can feel small and cramped, but that's part of the appeal. The bustling space has it's walls adorned with pictures of customers, giving it a very home-y feel. Everything is swift and fast-paced. You may have to wait for a table, but the wait is definitely worth it. As soon as you sit down, a variety of small veggies/salads are brought to the table to snack on, along with some pita. The dishes included cabbage, pickled veggies, beets, carrots, and corn. A beautiful glimpse into the cuisine! As far as drinks go, I highly recommend the "limonana" or mint lemonade. Lemonade is frozen, which crushed ice, and infused with a minty fresh flavor. This is so refreshing on those hot Miami days! I had the young chicken pita plate. The plate consists of several pieces of juicy and tender chicken, creamy hummus that will make you never want store-bought hummus again, a tabbouleh-esque salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, and scallions; and crispy french fries. Don't come here and expect a fine-dining sit down experience. Come here knowing that things may feel rushed or cramped, but that the food will more than make up for it. Every time I have come to this is Israeli style restaurant I have eaten quality delicious food. Every Saturday they serve Cholent which is in my opinion their best dish. They also make a mint lemonade called lemonana that is fantastic. The hummus and falafel are excellent as well. They make a smashed bagel with egg cheese and olives that is really good too. They make a lot of things and have a very varied menu. I generally go with an Israeli friend who knows what to order so I have not ordered off the menu. The only negative of this restaurant if you want to consider it a negative, is it's not very fancy and he could use a makeover. Their limonana is the best I've had in a while. Anything we order always comes fresh and tasting good. Service is quick and friendly. The place itself is small, love all the pictures on the wall. We came here for dinner tonight on the advice of a local Israeli and it was a great recommendation except for one thing. The restaurant is small and cramped, and we found all that charming, but opted to sit outside even though it was cold because there was zero distancing going on as far as table placement. Service was actually impressive as far as these kinds of establishments go but nothing overtly friendly (surely if you've been coming here for years as was the case with several customers we saw, it would be a different experience). The food was good and pretty similar to what you'd get back in Israel--all except the shishlik which was tough and unappetizing and outrageously priced at $26. Other than that one terrible dish, we were happy with everything on the table: AMAZING limonana (frozen!), all the complimentary salatim just like you get at your favorite aunt's house (beets, carrots, pickled everything, cole slaw, etc). Pitas were warm with a good texture. Their Israeli salad had a ton of parsley, which we love, so no complaints. Falafels were solid, though more "creamy" inside than we prefer and the hummus was five stars. The sides of shishlik--fries and rice--were meh but got the job done. We also enjoyed the Napoleon dessert which will also remind you of your favorite dessert from your Israeli aunt's house, just bigger. When everything is said and done, this is a legitimately good place to get Israeli food in Aventura. We were bummed about the shishlik but will know to order better next time we're in town. If I could give the place 5 stars for just seeming super cute and cozy I would. But I rather rate the food. Walking in I could feel like this place was mainly for locals, which I love. The combination platter was good but the fattoush wasn't all that fresh as I'd like it to be and it wasn't as tasty. But still good to satiate your Mediterranean cravings. Ambiance is not necessarily relaxing but that's completely alright since there's good energy from the patrons and staff. Service was great. Etzel Itzik is a great hole in the wall for some excellent Israeli cuisine! I came here for lunch after hearing several friends rave about it. The restaurant is very small and definitely feels like a hole in the wall, but the hundreds of pictures covering every inch of the place is pretty cool. I ordered the falafel in pita and I honestly have to say this is probably THE BEST FALAFEL I have ever had. I'm not sure why but it just tasted amazing. The only thing that keeps Eztel Itzik from getting 5 stars is the service...the servers were not very courteous and kind of forgot about us.
