The Eugene YMCA truly used to be a great place, in the past few years it has unfortunately entered a downwards spiral. I am saddened to say that this YMCA no longer prioritizes protecting the youth in its care, nor the staff they employ. Their new facility was poorly built and threw them into not only debt, but an urgency to make money back above all else. They throw people under the bus to protect the "organization" and no longer prioritize people over profit. Disappointed that it has strayed so far from a place of community. I would not recommend a membership here, and would especially not recommend you work here or enroll your children. read more

Terrible schedule. I don't know why they didn't make two pools since they built a new one and they could have. The classes are always full. They never returned phone calls so I can't cancel my service so I'm paying every month for a service that I don't even use and I don't have time to go in because of my work schedule and I live out of town. Also, it seems like their hot tub is always down as well as their sauna. I just think they should've made it bigger since they had all that property and went to the trouble of building a new one. Make no mistake, this is still very much a Man's gym. My best girlfriend had been going to the Y, taking classes, fully participating in activities offered, etc. for quite some time and had convinced me to go with her and try her gym. We did a brief tour and went into the lapswim pool, after 15minutes we combined and split a lane to help accommodate the new people coming in. 45 minutes into our mindful movement/isolation exercises we were approached by pair of younger men who had been watching our lane and were asked to move over to the next lane because "they couldn't swim the way they wanted to" in that lane. My friend obliged, and we moved over and continued with our routine. When we swam by the lifeguard who had watched the exchange, my friend asked her for clarification on what made the end lane special and why we were asked to move. The lifeguard informed us that we were now in the walking aerobic lane, which did not permit lane swimming- which we had been doing, and that the men shouldn't have asked us to leave our lane, essentially booting us from the equiptment we were using. We weren't done with our workouts. My friend asked why we were then asked to exit our lane, and the lifeguard called for a higher authority on her walkie-talkie. We exited the walking lane and after a moment a woman who had been speaking to the lifeguard approached us and introduced herself as the Aquadic Director, she asked us to explain what happened. And after reiterating the same story the lifeguard had told her, she explained to us that the only other option the pair of men would have had was to join our lane and circulate swim with us. We didn't have an issue with that. We asked who has priority to equipment and were told it was a first-come-first-serve system. Rather than elbowing our way back into our lane with two men that outsized us, we decided to end our gym experience early but my friend told the director that she wanted those rules explained to the offending guys, and that's where the problem lied. This woman had an immediate hesitation and began stammering on how she didn't want to escalate the situation by bothering them if we were going to leave. My friend insisted it was the principle of the matter, and that if the gym didn't have a priority list than the same set of rules should be followed by all paying patrons. The Aquadic Director had absolutely zero interest in approaching the pair of men who asked us to move for them and after a moment of back and forth between her and my friend, I calmly said, "This is bullshit." This gave the Aquadic Director the out she needed and she quickly turned the conversation to lecture me on how profanity isn't accepted on the pool deck. We were three adult women without a child in sight, having a conversation amongst ourselves, but I told her I understood and was on my way out. I returned to the locker room, showered and changed, and met back up with my friend who I left by the poolside to continue with the Aquadic Director, who did reluctantly have a brief conversation with the two guys at the insistence of my friend. As we were leaving the locker room a male employee pulled my friend aside and said that the Aquadic Director wanted to have another conversation. We told him that was fine, but we weren't going to have it in the locker room shower hall, and moved it to the lobby. We waited for the Aquadic Director in the lobby of the Y for no less than 5 minutes, zero appearance. My friend told the male employee that the locker rooms were not an appropriate place to ambush two women into conversation, and that in the future exiting members will most likely by found by the exit. The employee, Carson, said we weren't in the locker room, even though we were surrounded by lockers and a bay of showers when he stopped us from leaving. He literally turned his back to us mid conversation to instead pace up and down the hall and speak with another employee. After an interrupted workout, staff's unwillingness to address gym issues, an ambush in the locker room, and literally having employees turn their backs to us after being asked to wait to speak with them- we left. It was quite the mental workout, if nothing else. Needless to say, the Younge Men's Christian Association is still very much a male centered gym, when they have Women and Colored's events we may be inclined to try to lapswim again, but in the meantime I'd advise againt recommending this place to a wider demographic. I'm sorry my friend wasted her visitors' pass on me, but I think this experience was enough to decide membership dues on. read more

The good? Lots of equipment, classes, pickleball (though they charge an extra $27/ mo), indoor walking path, pool, hot tub and gym. Staff are very friendly. The bad? Overcrowded (maybe membership should be capped?). Parking is terrible and they do not enforce parking permits. They allow very young (like under 4 or so) kids in the hot tub. This should be only for adults and maybe teens. It is not an extra swimming pool where kids pee. Overall, it's okay, and I'll stay, but it may not be for everyone. read more

Great place to work out - basketball court is often times pretty full. Swimming is good but the schedule for lap swimming hours is quite restrictive but I can make it on the weekends. I have a family plan and they have up to 2 hours of child care. They have an app where I can sign in with Apple Wallet. I wish they have a machine to dry swimming trunks. The men shower room is often kinda wet and not the cleanest. Yoga classes are hard to get in. Lastly, really super friendly staff. Lots of children and elderly. read more

I was in town visiting my grandparents and needed to hit the gym to stay on my routine. I looked at nearby gyms online and found the Eugene Family YMCA (it was recommended on Reddit). I drove out to the facility to check it out and was immediately greeted by friendly staff, who assisted me in setting up my YMCA account! They gave me a rundown of the facility and answered all of my questions that I had. The facility is extremely clean (even the bathrooms!) and recently renovated too! It has cardio machines, weights, weight racks, swimming, you name it! The best part is that everyone is friendly and extremely kind. To be paying $12 for a day pass and having access to this clean facility and all its amentities is such a steal. I highly recommend this gym to anyone who's looking to work out during vacation or just in general! I'll be only going to this gym from here on out when Im in town! This just isn't it. I've grown up going to the Y and it's always been a blast but now being an adult I had a go and man was I disappointed. With in a month of me signing up they sent out a notice letting members know that they would be upping the monthly rate. For a place that's supposed to be for the "community" to get financial assistance they make you jump through hoops. Unfortunately this facility was built to accommodate parents and their kids. Trying to get a work out in on a weekday after work is next to impossible because you have teenagers crowded around all the equipment the gym rarely gives free time in the gym only around set times and usually on the weekend. I just feel like this isn't a traditional YMCA. It's an over glorified daycare. A lot of better and cheaper options in the area. read more

Modern facility with great staff and many amenities. A bit crowded, though. I would say it is the best gym in Eugene that I have seen.

The actual gym area is small and gets packed with teenagers and seniors, neither of whom are great at actually knowing how to work out or familiar with the concept of personal space. The sauna is nice but aforementioned seniors think it's social hour and blather loudly with eachother. It's really expensive considering what is offered. Pass. read more

I've belonged to the Eugene YMCA for 3 years. We got through Covid together with really tiny classes. Now the new Y has been open for over a year and it is great. It takes a bit to figure out how to maneuver best with signing up for classes on the App, parking in the lot, and using all the equipment. I have grown so much healthier and stronger since I began with Body Pump. The Yoga and Pilates classes are great too. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The Y is a mixed experience. The facility is beautiful and under a year old, but the locker rooms and showers are already falling apart. The gym has great views but is often overcrowded, with no plans to limit membership. The staff is friendly at the front desk and in the gym, but not around the pool. The pool is extremely dirty, with debris and hair floating near the lights, and sand and band-aids often at the bottom. The locker room floor is constantly wet (there is no sign about drying off before entering the lockers area) and people walk barefoot through it before entering the pool without showering--despite a weak "please shower" sign. Lifeguards don't seem to enforce basic hygiene, nor care about the pool filth. It's a beautiful facility, but the management leaves much to be desired. read more

I just want to say this after school program has helped my daughter in so many ways. Colleen has been there to help me work out a schedule for my daughter that helps her get her work done and have fun with her peers at the same time. I love how they work with your child teaching them new things and keeping their minds active. The staff also keep on top of the safety of your child. They make sure they are signed in and out properly and Amber the staff leader is always available by email. My daughter loves going there and it makes the afternoons fun which is a plus after a long day at school. It's great to know their are staff and administrators that still want the best for your child's after school experience. I definitely recommend their services. read more

I've enjoyed my decision of getting my year membership here. I'm just a normal workout kind of guy, and have really enjoyed having a YMCA within 10 minutes of where I live. I also really enjoy their Tennis facility. My biggest reason for the 3 star is the price for the non-student, the wear and tear of this facility, which truthfully needs to be overhauled, and just the capacity seems a bit low for the population of this town. I almost feel like we deserve a bigger YMCA. My hometown in Ashland Oregon has a bigger, nicer and much more new facility. I hope our community can come together and help the Y build a better facility. God forbid Phil Knight gives a tiny bit to the community as well as sports eh? We can dream. read more

I enjoyed coming to this gym (pre-COVID), the staff was very nice and responsive. It was always pretty clean with most machines in working order. It was quite cramped, and I can't imagine coming here these days. It was kind of expensive, but may be worth it depending on what classes and services you utilize. I'm done with this Y. They have 3 young men who are exceptional in the front desk area, the others are often aloof and indifferent. It's not that nor is it the ancient building, or even the fact that water is barely luke warm in the winter, because they are incapable of heating the pool AND the showers (unless someone flushes a toilet) It is things like cutting the hours back in summer, when people are out and about more, cutting them especially short on the weekends. Today, we showed up and they were closed. No notice or signs on their door or web site-nothing. Just close the doors and lock 'em when you want. Got something else going on? Forget the customers who waste time and gas coming into Eugene. Let 'em show up and find us closed. Forget this dump of a Y. read more

Like others have said, I *really* want to like this place and have reason to give it 5 stars but I just can't. Customer service is often indifferent or downright hostile, random enforcement of rules, run-down equipment and building (though that is supposedly getting replaced soon!), and high prices for what you are getting. The Y does a lot of great work, and I really appreciate that, but I just can't make this my gym home despite really wanting to. I want to like the Y. The idea of a nonprofit, community oriented fitness facility is cool and desperately needed. Unfortunately, this Y is a poor facility that is even more poorly managed. For most users, the pricing is not competitive with private gyms that are less crowded and still offer the same core options most people use. It's miserable inside when the weather is especially hot or cold, and ridiculously crowded just before and after work, when people who pay full price most often work out. Even with an old, rundown facility, I'd still rate it two stars for the wide variety of programs and resources the Y offers, but the staff members are routinely indifferent and sometimes downright rude. I finally left, and every time I think about going back, I visit and realize nothing has changed. I've lost count of the current and mostly former members who say the same thing. I've talked to a few of their board members and wasn't really shocked to learn they don't work out there either. The executive director is abrasive and the culture he imparts has alienated a large percentage of current and former members. All of these people seem to be out of touch with the membership. They think their job starts and ends with building a new facility, when in fact that is just the beginning of what they need to do. Here's a suggestion for management, if they happen to care enough to read this: try some quality control. Get some objective friends and relatives, or professional secret shoppers, to visit. Listen to them when they tell you the service and attitude they get from staff members is all over the place, sometimes helpful but too often really bad. Fix the things that need fixing, starting with staff attitude. I go back and check out the Y about once a year, because I'm really hoping the culture will change and it will run more like a business that cares about its customers. So far, that hasn't been the case, but hopefully someday. read more

I love our local YMCA! My younger son had three years of preschool there -- two in the Rainbow Room (with Teri, who is, hands-down, the best preschool teacher I've ever encountered) and one in the Friends Room (with Dawn and Delmi, who are also fantastic). My older son has had three years of after-school YMCA programs at his elementary school. Both have attended summer day camps there as well. The cost is reasonable (well, as reasonable as child care gets, anyway), and my kids have always had a blast. Preschoolers get swimming lessons three days a week! Older kids get to do all kinds of fun activities and field trips. Of course, the YMCA also has a gym, racquetball courts, etc. The place probably deserves five stars, but there are a few assistant teachers I haven't been thrilled with, and I've had occasional problems with the billing department (once, they insisted I had not paid for a month's child care, and even when I brought in my receipt AND bank statement, they seemed vaguely annoyed with me). Overall, though, the YMCA totally rocks. read more

It is an unfortunate situation that Eugene had a limited number of gyms with free weights. This is what lead to me having to join this gym. The facility is unclean and slow to fix broken equipment. The staff wanders around like hall monitors yet doesn't enforce anything. The elderly clientele will crowd around equipment and chat and an employee will join them while the block the equipment, instead of moving the conversation. They fail to stop people who "circuit" train and hog equipment for long periods of time, only coming back to the station to tell you they need it but fail to use it within 15 minutes. The "sauna" in the men's locker room could fall apart at any minute. Overall this gym is great if you want to walk around and chat or be rudely interrupted during your workout by a member who feels that they own all the equipment. If you live closer to another gym, join it. read more

I am shocked at how unprofessional the staff are. It is clear everyone knows everyone else. When you make a complaint about the person in charge of the daycare, on her computer and talking to other employees while children are sobbing in the corner, you are just laughed at. The YMCA is a great place to go if you like weight machines that are 40 years old and hardly work, barbells that are so rusted that the ends don't spin, trying to lift weights in the dark because 3 of the fluorescent lights are either broken or not being turned on to save electricity, filthy bathrooms and locker rooms, poor ventilation, paying high rates (for what you're getting), and like someone else said unprofessional and some outright rude staff. Face it, there's only one thing the Y at least here cares about... Getting you to become a member and getting your $$$$. read more

They staff is excellent and they offer a lot of classes. I'd say 4 stars is a fair rating for the older condition of the building. They don't have a whole lot of money so you can't really hold their feet to the fire on that one. They upgraded the equipment in recent years and I feel comfortable working out there. I love the sauna. Its not the nicest but it works and I feel rejuvenated when I get out. The pool is great for kids. My son always loves going there and swimming and they have super cheap baby sitting while your there (somewhere around $1.50 an hour). They also offer student discounts. The Y building could definitely be improved, and their prices are steep for non-students who don't apply for low income assistance, but overall there is a really nice vibe that I appreciate here. There is a warm family feel that I didn't get when I went to a couple other gyms in town, like international. Of course it depends on who exactly you interact with, because there are definitely all types that go here. But the staff have always been super friendly every time I interact with them, and the workout / weights room has a more accepting feel than many I've been to. I'm looking forward to a time when they have a better building and hopefully better hours because I would like to work out on saturday or sunday nights. read more

This place smells! The tennis staff is so rude and have no idea what they are doing. There are no junior programs and one gets the feeling the tennis center does not even matter. What is up with all the security cameras? I think they cannot pay their employees enough to put up with the main boss. He earns 43 dollars an hr when everyone else either earns minimum wage or the other managers earn about 15 dollars an hour. That is why on one worth their salt works at this dump. Most YMCA's serve the youth in the community. Not his Y. They suck in the worst way possible. read more
