Why oh why did I think a half pound of freshly made peirogis would be anywhere close to enough? Next time I'll be getting at least a pound, and maybe even more if she tells me they freeze well. After reading Karen V's great review of the day, I knew I had to venture to Brandon to check out this Polish market. It is tucked away off the main drag, so you'll need a mapping program to get there. Their adjustment to the pandemic was to only allow 2 customers in the store at a time. The woman running the place was friendly and helpful. They do not have a huge selection of products, but what they did have was very tempting and unique. From the market portion I ended up with a spicy horseradish, a spicy red pepper spread, and 2 bars of chocolate (European chocolate is way better than American!). From the deli/hot food section I bought fresh kolachki cookies, frozen stew, sliced cheese, a blueberry pastry (drozdzowki), stuffed cabbage (golabki), and the aforementioned amazing peirogis. I couldn't wait to get home and taste my treasures, and they did not disappoint, with the peirogis being the high point. I'm already planning another trip there this weekend.

I didn't know there was a Polish market in Brandon. I just happened to read the article about it in the Osprey Observer which prompted me to stop by. I've even been back a couple of times. I just can't stay away from it. I've tried a little of something each time. I started out with the homemade paczki (donuts) that have unique fillings such as pudding, plum butter (prune), strawberry, and rose jam. All were very good. The cookies were also a winner. Then I went back another day to get the Moscow style ham that I saw pictured on Yelp. What a great decision! This was seriously the best ham I've had in a very long time. It's cured with garlic cloves and you'll even get a few slivers of it here and there. It's a very flavorful ham, and definitely something you don't see everyday. I'm going back to get some more this week. I also purchased some Grillowa sausages that were absolutely delicious. My husband pan fried them for me in beer today along with the Alexandra's pierogi (potato & cheese) that I also bought at the market. What a wonderful meal for Super Bowl Sunday! They also have all different varieties of filled pierogi (sweet and savory ones). I bought the kraut filled one but haven't tried it yet. You probably think I have nothing more to say, but I do. I went back for a 3rd visit because I figured they would have some fresh baked bread and cheese to go with that ham I purchased earlier in the week. They most certainly do. I got the salami style cheese that is sliced round like salami. I think it's a Lubelski cheese but it's white (not yellow). It melts very good and it's mild enough that it doesn't take away from the flavor of the ham. I put it all together with the fresh Polish sourdough bread and it was the European deli sandwich I've been craving but couldn't find anywhere. A simple sandwich full of flavor. I'm totally sold! European Flavors is now my new deli. I'll also be going back for Polish pastries. I had this wonderful blueberry filled yeast bun that looked as beautiful as it tasted. I'm sure I'll discover more pastries in the future. There is a menu of various hot soups such as borscht, chicken noodle, tomato, and many others. They may not all be available that day so you may have to ask the owner. She makes them all. There's so much more (like cabbage rolls) but I can't list them all. It's located in the old strip mall on Oakfield and Kings near Bootleggers Brewing in Brandon. It's a small market, but full of all kinds of Polish & European specialty products. It's clean and tastefully decorated. It looks like a European deli. What more can I say? I'm loving that Oakfield Drive has basically gone International. There are so many great restaurants and markets on this road to Brandon Regional Hospital. They are all hidden gems.

So I have to say this is finally a real Italian deli in Florida that is close enough to my house --…read morethat's actually open on a Sunday morning and afternoon. No more driving to Lakeland or Saint Pete. Today I had a "Joey" sausage peppers and onion sandwich with provolone added, and I also had a doppio (double espresso). I'd like to start with the espresso. First of all whatever beans they are using have an absolutely wonderful aroma and very fresh flavor. Espresso was served at just the perfect temperature in a heated cup in a nice little espresso presentation. Flavorful and also not bitter. It was a perfect espresso. Secondly, the "Joey ". This is a delicious sandwich and I couldn't recommend it more to anyone who loves sausage. This store serves Tony Fig sausage and I have to say I've also had it at Casa Santo Stefano, but here it takes on a whole new level. The bread is crusty and tasty. The peppers and onions are exactly correct for a sandwich slightly crunchy but not limp. Also, they use a very flavorful provolone cheese, but not one that is so pungent that it takes away from the sandwich. I asked for cheese to be added to the sandwich. It doesn't normally come that way by the way. While I did not sample them, they have quite the list of Italian drinks, sodas, flavored waters, and so on and beer and house wine. They also have a complete dessert case, including of course, cannoli. They want everyone to be happy here. I intend to return with my dining buddy to see what rose we can sample. The hours listed on Google and their website are not correct. Make sure you call before you come because they are open more hours than Google thinks they are especially during the week. Highly recommended!

You have to try the hummingbird and princess cakes!! I finally had the chance to cater from wrights and was beyond impressed. The veggie tray is a fresh, plentiful and unique selection with a stand out homemade dill dip for serving. The alpine cakes were also a huge hit! While the flavor was great as always, I was disappointed and frankly concerned to find four pieces of pecans mixed into it. I know most kitchens have cross-contamination warnings, but finding 4 pieces of nuts in a dish where they don't belong is a significant issue. I'm embarrassed because I shared this with a friend, and while I'm incredibly relieved they aren't allergic, it was still an unpleasant surprise for them to bite down on a pecan. More importantly, if I had shared this with someone who had a tree nut allergy, this could have turned into a life-threatening medical emergency. Ultimately, the purchase was a waste of money because we were too grossed out to finish it and ended up throwing it away. Below is a photo of the last pecan we found before tossing the rest; there could have easily been more. I'm bringing this up because I love your food and want to make sure the kitchen is aware of this safety lapse so it doesn't happen to someone else.
