My first two visits to the shop were fine but this third time didn't go well at all. If you didn't bring the car here as your first option you're not going to hear the end of it from John. Prepare to be lectured. The diagnosis to find the problem took about a week and I was quoted $2850 for new alternator and ignition coils, and he said there's a 50/50 chance it'll fix the problem. If not, it'll probably be the onboard computer which will be another $1500 to $2500 depending on if the part is new or refurbished. That's not very reassuring and I wasn't going to take the 50/50 so I politely declined. Nothing was fixed at the end and I was charged $850 just for diagnosis. I don't even think dealerships charge that much for diagnosis. There's a reason why we avoid dealerships after the warranty, if you're OK paying that price I guess this is the place for you. But if you're going to pay dealership prices why not just go to the dealership. read more

It's about time I left a review for John. Both my father and I have taken our BMWs and Mini Coopers to EMW for nearly 20 years. In those years, he has always been honest about the work we need, what to expect, and what can or should be done in the near future or distant future. And I can also trust that we are getting quality parts and not knockoff or second hand parts. He sources the right parts from the manufacturer whenever possible. John knows BMWs like the back of his hand. After the first few times I had various problems with my car, I realized he was incredibly knowledable. No upselling, just straight-up honest advice. I had to get an oil change and brake fluid flush and I asked a friend where she took her bmw...she's been a longtime customer of EMW and I decided to give it shot. They were easy to talk to on the phone, provided an estimated cost for the work I asked about, and are even on on Saturdays. And the price was better than the dealership as expected & hoped. Other work that they recommended included a small coolant leak and CV boot / gasket replacement. I was shown pictures on a phone of the areas. The estimate for that work was more than I was up for spending that day and I decided to not get that extra work done...mainly because I hadn't seen any coolant dripping. I told them that I hadn't seen any dripping liquid or seen any warning lights / overheated engine. Later on, I remembered that all cars have a coolant reservoir tank that you can check to see if coolant level is going down. So I filled that tank to the line and will be monitoring for a little while to see how much/if the coolant is leaking. The area of improvement would have been if EMW at least topped off the coolant reservoir or suggested that I could monitor the coolant level myself (though I thought of it after the fact). We'll see how it goes. read more

Omg my experience was horrible at this location... so I took my X6 to get it fix and the guy named John was like I can't fix this, he told me that I was gonna pay more to get it fix than what the car is actually worth bottom line he told me to throw my x6 away. So picked up my x6 and dropped it off at the bmw in Monrovia they were able to fix the issue and I only paid $550.0 dollars. Imagine if I would have listen to John I do not even want to think about it so next time get more opinions from different auto shops and also best option is to take your car to the dealer because they actually know their job. I witnessed his transition from a master tech at a dealership to a proud owner of a small independent shop. Today, he is in charged of a well managed and bigger independent shop. John is an expert on anything BMWs. He's the no BS kind of guy. Very straight forward. He will tell you right away if something is worth fixing or not. John upholds his job quality/standards he carried over from the dealership. He has 3 helpers in his shop: Joe, Jesse and Ivan. All 3 of them acquired their skills from John. Neat, clean job everytime. And most importantly decently priced. This day and age, it is difficult to find a tech that is trustworthy. I came back to take care of some work that I knew I needed but put off until after tax season: The upper valve cover gaskets were leaking and were replaced; While the valve covers were removed, one of the timing chain guides was cracked. Since the car has over 200K miles on it, I wasn't surprised that it was time for a timing chain replacement, especially since I don't remember ever doing one; The engine valley coolant cover showed signs of coolant leakage so that gasket needed replacement; The rear suspension upper control arms were worn out causing premature tire wear; The rear rotors and brake pads were replaced; This was a major overhaul which took about a week to do. It was expensive -- about $5300 in parts, labor, and tax even with deep discounts on parts. I also want to mention some of the things that John included in the job without charging me extra: I drop shipped a new set of tires from the TireRack to EMW because I wanted to change out the set at the same time . John did the mounting and balancing, and the 4 wheel alignment (which he would have done anyway with the replacement of the control arms); The trunk latch spring had broken so that assembly was replaced; During test driving, there was a sway bar that was noisy and was replaced; Obviously all the oil and fluids were changed out as if a minor service was performed, the cabin air filters were replaced and the service indicator reset; I had a problem with the intermittency sensor with the wipers since the windshield was replaced -- turns out that the Safelite technician didn't reconnect the sensor correctly so John took care of this too; On a separate occasion, my AC was not cooling -- John recharged the freon; It turns out that rear Akebono pads that I requested don't fit my car (excessive chatter problem), so he changed them out with another low brake dust brand; I can't put a price on trust and ease of mind, but these are some of the things that I have had John do for me... read more

John, his wife, and his whole staff are all very friendly and accommodating. I've been going to him for years for oil changes and he was able to squeeze me in last minute to change my brakes the same day! He only fixes BMWs and uses authentic BMW parts and gives you the breakdown costs of each part. He even gave advice to us about the warranty that dealerships offer and how they're usually counting from the year the car was made and not the year it was bought, and we were able to cancel our warranty and get some of our money back. We've learned to ask extra questions at dealerships now and advised our friends to do the same. Overall, great solid experiences! read more

John and his team here at EMW are amazing. Top notch customer service that keeps you informed all along the way. Everybody is polite and courteous but also very knowledgeable in their work. They charge a $100 inspection fee, but they go over everything with a fine toothed comb, so you know what state you vehicle is in. the $100 is waived if you choose to do the work with them -- they will suggest fixes that are more important or critical fixes that must be done, but will _never_ try to upsell you on something you don't want to do or immediately need. I took in my M3 for some problems relating to the drivetrain (that apparently was faulty work done by the dealer that repaired my car last!) and John and his team had me in and out in just a few days. I would have been out sooner, but a specific part that was needed; only one was immediately available in the region, so it took a day or so to get their hands on it. However, they informed me of this immediately after they found there would be a delay. They also took care of a lot of small electrical problems for me for free, as I had a lot of work done on my car. This is the only place I'll be taking my baby from now on :) read more

When she returned we were amazed. John knew his stuff, he got the car done in a day, and when receiving it found out he did quite a bit extra work, for no billing. Just stuck to his quote. Even invoiced BELOW the quote! A past mechanic had upgraded the tensioner, and installed it incorrectly. John fixed it, among a few other odds and ends, like changing a faulty brake light too. I took my 2005 X5 at the end of April, my window's motor went out and would not go up at all (supposedly a known issue with BMWs - which sucks) but Peter was able to fix that and a few other things that needed to get done on my X5. They even replaced my windshield wipers for free and I just realized this when it rained last week, I bought new wipers at AutoZone to replace them, but now I can just return them =) Thanks guys! I used to go to the dealer at Ontario Savage when my BMW was in warranty, then went to independent Taylor BMW in Pomona, and now that I found EMW, I will definitely go here first! I shopped around, and Taylor ends up being way more expensive than even the dealer prices and EMW was very reasonable, as I had a lot to get done on my X5 and Peter was very helpful the whole way through. I felt like my car was well taken care of and Peter explained everything in detail and he always asked for my approval before starting on anything. BE-CAREFUL! I like so many others was referred here after being cautious of the dealerships. Never again will I return here for my car to be serviced. Not only are they rude if you don't talk "car language" but they will take advantage of you! Don't even bother going here.......it will be a waste of your time, terrible customer service and hidden fees left and right! I had a repair done and it ended up being faulty, when I called to follow up I was treated like an idiot and accused of lying. Each element of the repair had not been documented (completely shady). Later I found out that the repair that was done was a lazy repair and that the issue was obvious if the proper steps had in fact been taken to fully correct the problem. Don't usually review but this place needs a opposing viewpoint. Came in this afternoon after seeing all these great reviews and was hugely disappointed. Wanted to see the cost of repairs for my 2011 335i. Needed rear brake light and front control arm bushing replacement. Manager tells me immediately he cannot give me a quote. I must leave my vehicle here to be examined for $150, which would go to the cost of repairs should I choose to do them. Only then can they tell me the extent of repairs I need. Said no thanks, drove a block away to T & M Auto Repair which was my 2nd choice. The manager replaces my rear light for $10 on the spot and orders the bushings for installation the next day at a reasonable price of $300. Def not coming back here. read more

John, the owner and mechanic, has the most BMW experience and knowledge for any mechanic that I have come across. He has completed numerous BMW certifications and trainings essentially knowing all the ins and outs of all BMW models. Not only is he BMW-certified but his racing experience also exemplifies this point. Being a racer himself (and a highly skilled one I might add), he specializes in high performance and what better way to understand the necessary components of your car than from one who has personally been on the track knowing what's best for your bimmer whether you are a normal driver or racing enthusiast. He will not cheat you out of your money. There is no gimmick when you bring your bimmer in. You won't get that cliche 'I came in for an oil change but now I need to replace my transmission, engine, etc' experience. I'm not suggesting that he won't inspect your car, because he does, but he won't pressure you to repairing it instantaneously if it isn't urgent. He will notify you if there are repairs that should be made in the future and suggest you return whenever you are ready to fix it - no pressure, no scam. He also uses only original genuine BMW and/or high performance parts. There is no cutting corners to save a buck on his part to rip you off. John's honesty and experience make him the perfect mechanic for my bimmer. As I said before, coming to John and EMW has been the antidote to my fears. This guy knows his craft and somehow manages to remember your name even though you only come in once a year. For the jobs you can't tackle in your garage because you don't want to spend $200 on some stupid exclusive BMW tool that you will probably only use once, take it straight over to my man John. This is my second time bringing my car to John. The first time, my car had a million problems and he fixed them all for a pretty reasonable fee. Don't get me wrong, it's still expensive, but that's what you get for owning "The ultimate driving machine". All I know is, my next car will be Japanese. I've never had so many problems with a car, as with my 325i. I must have gotten a lemon from the beginning. I hope I can get this thing running well for another couple years until I can save up some money for a new car. I've haven't had to do anything but routine check ups and oil changes for my toyota. Man... I'm kicking myself for buying German, but I wanted the experience. Now I've had it. Anyways... that's beside the point. This morning my battery died and I called John to see if I could bring it in. He found the battery bad and when it still didn't work, he recommended replacing the starter. I guess some other shops may have just told me it was the starter first and tried to rip me off. So, I dropped it off and his son even gave me a ride to work. That was a nice touch. I didn't expect that from a small shop. He also found a problem with my tires and wanted me to change them too, but I found it cheaper at another place. He simply said, " Cool, do it there." No pressure. I like that. So, like all the other reviewers have said, if you gotta have a BMW and you want dealer like service without the dealer price, go to EMW. The excellent team at EMW receives my highest recommendations - John, Peter, Joel & many more. They specialize solely in BMW repair & service and John, the boss, is a Certified Master Technician who worked in the UK previously. In my opinion, they do a better, much thorough job and at much more reasonable prices than many other BMW dealers that I have gone to in the past, and I definitely will be going back if anything in my car ever needs to be fixed. I was really wary of bringing my car in for any type of service after several unpleasant experiences at the dealerships in the area - but my anxiety was somewhat reduced by John's honesty,openness and patience in explaining to me what was going on with my car. John and his crew are very friendly (except for some guy who answers the phone...he seems to get mad if you call to check up on your car...i didn't catch his name though) and knowledgeable. Follow up to the AC issue. I brought the car in as mentioned. John took a quick look and saw that the AC belt broke off. Gave me a fair quote, and I followed up on another previous recommendation of replacing my tranmission fluid. Another fair quote, and off he went to make the repairs. One thing that bugged me is that, I told his staff that I'll be back when closing at 2pm as I'll be running some errands. The car was fixed, and received a call by one of employees saying to come pick up your car. As mentioned previously, I'll be back at 2pm. When I called back when I got the message, the same guy answered the phone and was snippy with me saying "we've been trying to call you to come get your car" in a rude tone. I didn't appreciate that. - 1 star. However, John and is mechanical wisdom = 5 Stars! Other than the issue I experienced, I'll stil keep my business there. John and his team really know what they're doing with when it comes to your BMW. I had some issues with starting my car and was recommended to see EMW. As some of the past yelpers have pointed out, he is one of the very few mechanics I'll trust with my ride. It took them two visits to figure out what was wrong with my car (I had one of the weirdest starter issues that involved a weird nut in the engine bay) but he fixed it the second time around without question I'm almost geeked out everytime I visit the shop from seeing all the different types of BMWs he services. You can tell he is well respected in the BMW community. 2011 Updated Review I've been taking my e46 to EMW for the past two years now. Peter who works in the front always takes care of me. Him and John both know every customer's names, cars and services that they have performed without looking at records. Amazing. It really shows how much they care about everyone's car and the attention to detail they take into consideration. I highly recommend this place if you own a BMW. read more
