All great work and very much worth the price. I see some folks here complaining about cost, when they clearly don't understand the amount of work involved in doing what they're asking for. If you have any reservations, just ask for the price up front.

I didn't ask upfront the cost, because I've had friends recommended them, so I trusted it would be fair. I was thinking at the worst possible scenario it would cost $100 for the job. They charged me $220 for a hem!!!! When I questioned them, they were belligerent defending their work. When I told them a friend got the same dress completely redone, pulled apart and put back together plus a hem for $140, which we thought was ridiculous. The woman at the shop likened it to shopping at Roche Bros. rather than Market Basket. I'd steer clear of Hoi's Tailor Shop. I was robbed. They didn't even try to be nice about it. Completely defensive. I should've done it myself. I like local businesses, but this totally backfired.

She was rude to the customer before me, then snapped at a young boy who came in to pick up an item for his mother, telling him she had "lost it" and to come back another time. When it was my turn, I put on my dress and she immediately refused to listen to me and my family about how the dress needed to be put on in order to be buttoned. She insisted she knew best, so we followed her instructions. When she couldn't get it buttoned, she looked at me and said word for word: "you must have gained 20 pounds since you last tried on this dress. I can't do anything to it. Your only option is to get a new dress or a bigger size." I cannot even describe the emotional turmoil that caused me. With only four months before my wedding, I panicked and purchased a bigger size dress. When it arrived, she then told me it was too big and refused to do any alterations on it to make it smaller. I won't go into the further weight related insults she said to me, because they are still extremely triggering, but I will say this: no one deserves to be body shamed ever and especially not while preparing for a wedding. This experience was one of the lowest points in my planning process. Thankfully, I found a wonderful seamstress in Wayland 2 weeks before my wedding, who treated me with kindness, made the dress fit perfectly, and gave me back the confidence I had lost. Please, if you are considering going here, do your research and look at the negative reviews she already has. I truly wish I had. She is one of the meanest and most unprofessional people I have ever encountered, and I wouldn't want any other bride to go through what I did

I waited and then said, "this is the second customer you have served while I am waiting." He arrogantly didn't even turn, she said nothing. I went in and changed. She came and tried to hug me. My friend and I both had our wedding dresses tailored with Dao (without knowing the other was…read morecoming here too!). In general, there will be 3 appointments spaced out over a couple months. Surprisingly, the appointments are not very long. The first appointment, I wore the dress and Dao immediately told me a list of things she needed to fix (things that I am clueless about so I cannot verify if true or not) and provides a quote/invoice. The second appointment is a double check. The final appointment was my longest one as I asked her to make a small tweak, which she did on the spot. I did notice that the dress felt more supportive and structured on the last visit due to the work she did (adding boning etc). She usually has one other associate working in the shop and together, they are extremely good at hyping you up as you try on the dress. Cost wise, my friend and I both spent about $1K each on our dresses. In summary, Dao is very confident in her skills and vision and it is clear she has a lot of experience in wedding dresses as her entire shop is lined with wedding dresses. PS. My friend looked STUNNING on her wedding day - the dress fit like a glove and was so flattering. She told me you can take the dress back after your appointments if you need more work. PPS. There is free street parking.

On top of that, there were obvious new stitches added that hadn't been there before, and they didn't even remotely match the fabric or color of the knit. When I returned to show them the damage, there was no apology, no accountability, and no attempt to offer compensation. I had to request a refund myself. The employee handed it to me and simply walked away without even acknowledging the inconvenience. This place used to be excellent before the ownership change. Now it's an absolute mess.
