Horrible customer service. Walked in on Columbus Day before 5pm. Not all that crowded. Looked around in several areas -- backpacks, clothing, shoes, tent. No one was tending the tent area (no problem, not interested in anything anyway). When I got to the shoes, I spent some time looking at shoes and shoe inserts but no one asked if they could help me. There was a salesperson helping another woman try on shoes. Ok, but ya could have acknowledged my presence, yes? I decided I didn't want anything bad enough to wait for her to finish and walked towards the front noticing at least one other salesperson in the area and someone at the front desk who was fiddling with some electronic device (texting perhaps?) and never even looked up to see me. Would have been nice for someone in the entire store to say "hello", "can I help you?", "did you find everything you were looking for?", "have a good day".... something. but no, I came; I went; no one even noticed. Hmm... they must do enough business not to need mine which seems surprising given the name brands they carry have retail prices and can be found at EMS and REI with sales galore. Just sayin' that for a specialty shop, ya better have superior customer service and ya don't. As an update, the insulated winter women's hiking boots I was looking for and no one waited on me or even acknowledged my existence for me to ask questions? Accessible and very good customer service. The young woman in the shoe department helped my Mom try on approximately 1000 pairs of shoes until we found just the right pair. Talk about patience! Evans has clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry, sale racks, and lots of cool stuff. I'm still thinking about a really pretty blouse and legging outfit that I wish I had grabbed when I was there. Huge fan of Evans! I've been buying shoes there for about 15 years. I recently had an exceptionally impressive customer service experience that reminded me I ought to create a review. I had a weird manufacturers defect with a high-end sneaker several months after purchase. They took care of it no questions asked! No receipt asked for either. I 'm sure they knew I was a regular customer, but still. Not sure about all the shoe salespeople, but the ones I've always had know feet and their shoes inside and out. And they carry lots of wide widths in stock. Yes, sometimes you have to wait a bit for a salesperson, but it's well worth it. They will multi-task when possible. And yes, the prices are usually MSRP, but worth it for the superior expertise and service. I would give 5-stars if prices were more competitive, but OTOH I don't begrudge the higher prices for the value received. read more

New Customer, for Life! My first visit to Evans was this past week. I was having severe foot pain for the past two years with medical problems. I've been through five different pairs of foot-ware in the past six month sneakers and shoes of different brands, with no relief! discussing my condition with my Physical therapist my physical therapist recommended a visit to Evans On The Common. Although I put it off for a month and another pair of foot-ware from a local high end shoe store in Leominster, I took the ride to Townsend's Evans On The Common. I was first greeted at the front door by a fine young lady who guided me to a young man whom I'm greatly appreciative to have met, Matt. After two minutes of discussing my condition with Matt, he new exactly what I was talking about and what he felt I needed. I was fitted and tried six different pairs of foot ware that Matt recommended for me. The truth is I ended up with the first pair he had me try. He new what I needed for relief! Bless you Matt. This place and the staff is on the top of the foot-ware industry and believe me, if you are having feet problems visit Evans, Do Not Wait! I've been wearing the foot-ware I got for the past three days and am feeling the best I've felt in Two Years. By the way, I bought two pairs, sneakers and boots.
