On MLK day I decided to take my Mother to try a new breakfast spot. We were extremely disappointed with the poor service. Our drink order was taken then we were promptly ignored. A couple that arrived after us were sat, handed menues, drinks order taken, asked for more time to decide what to order, drinks served and food order taken. All the while My Mother and I were sitting with not even coffee served. Yes, we're were the only dark skinned people waiting to be served but our money is as green as the other patrons. If 6 stars was available I would give this restaurant a well deserved amazing review. I found this on Yelp with some great reviews. We were seated promptly with some very welcoming smiles. The chips, homemade salsa and guacamole were amazing. To top it off we ordered some Micheladas that were absolutely perfect! Several of us ordered the quesa birria tacos that were 10/10. The consome and tender meat were probably the best I've had. Amazing authentic Mexican food and great customer service made this the best meal in Santa Cruz. Wowowow amazing food! I loved the Birria and Consume ...honestly wanted to lick the plate. I did not like the refried beans...lacked flavor but everything else was BURSTING with flavor! Picked this place because of the high ratings, but one of the worst meals we had. Ordered Carne Asada plate and the steak was like dry particle board and barely room temp. I sent it back. My son ordered the kids steak and it was so chewy we had to send it back too. Haven't had such low quality food in a long time. Seriously, spend your money at places that put effort into their food, this place is disgusting. Not to mention you can smell weed and cigarettes in the room in the back from people smoking outside. We stopped by here to eat on our way to our hotel in Santa Cruz. There are tables set up front, an indoor dining area, and an enclosed patio space (really nice!). We were a family of four with a stroller and there was plenty of space. They had a variety of menu items including pastas and burgers. I had the penne pasta Pomodoro with prawns and it was filling and yummy, especially with the bread! There is also a kids menu and my daughter ordered mac and cheese which included goldfish crackers. My husband had the birra tacos which he enjoyed. My daughter especially loved the patio, she had fun looking at all of the decor. Such a cute little place that I've probably driven past a million times without even realizing it was there! Stopped in for breakfast after reading people's posts on FB. First and only complaint is parking but I made do with parking across the street at the Dignity Wellness Center since they are closed on weekends! Inside this place is very clean, neat and welcoming! They have a few outdoor tables but it was a little chilly and I don't like my eggs cold so we are inside. The menu is very expansive and has typical "American breakfast" items as well as some of my favorite Mexican dishes (Machaca, Huevos Rancheros, etc)! The food was exceptional! Great brunch option in the Twin lakes area if you want to avoid the wait at Harbor Cafe or Windmill Cafe (next door). They also feature other Mexican fare, sandwiches and pastas. I judge Mexican style food places for their salsas and this one did not disappoint. The coffee was good too. TIP- if you check-in on Yelp, you get a free drink with meal. We found this restaurant during our trip to Santa Cruz out of the blue. It's the cutest little place that feels like home and the food tasted even better. This business is family owned and the owner took our order and served us our food. He was very accommodating to the adjustments we wanted to make to our dishes with no issues. I ordered the chile verde omelette and it was absolutely packed with meat. My other half ordered the chilaquiles which were delicious as well. The best part of this restaurant was the chips and salsa they served. The salsa was so good that we ended up buying 2 pints to take back home.
