We found this restaurant during our trip to Santa Cruz out of the blue. It's the cutest little place that feels like home and the food tasted even better. This business is family owned and the owner took our order and served us our food. He was very accommodating to the adjustments we wanted to make to our dishes with no issues. I ordered the chile verde omelette and it was absolutely packed with meat. My other half ordered the chilaquiles which were delicious as well. The best part of this restaurant was the chips and salsa they served. The salsa was so good that we ended up buying 2 pints to take back home. Had such a great brunch here with my little fam this Saturday morning. The staff was friendly, and food came out in a very reasonable amount of time. They had coloring and booster seats for the kids which helps so much to keep them happy. Food was so great! This was our first eating out experience in a whole year and we felt very covid safe. The Benedict was cooked perfect, and the hash browns were just right. Our kids had 2 sides of "red rice" that they devoured and my husband had the scrambled eggs and sausage which were cooked perfect as well. We went in on a Saturday afternoon, and the Saturday/Sunday special is a Mexican dish. OMG!!! Was absolutely mouth watering delicious!!! Wait staff were so nice and attentive. It's small, so might be hard for big groups, but fine for my family if 4. We sat in the back patio which is sheltered and has a heat lamp so we we're perfectly warm. Prices were very reasonable. I know it's a Mexican restaurant, but I opted for a steak and egg breakfast and was not disappointed! The steak was tender and flavorful, cooked perfectly medium rare. All day breakfast - what's not to like? I had the Huevos Ranchos - very fresh sauce with black beans and lots of vegetables. Saucy - would almost need a spoon. Went down easy - stole some of Mom's wheat toast and had a big glass of Mango juice with it. The young man was very nice and kind, and kept filling up my mom's coffee cup with hot coffee. She said it was good coffee. Her plate was huge! She had the Denver Scamble - going to have to get my husband to eat the rest of it. They are open until 4pm most days so if you have a craving for breakfast in the middle of the day head on over. We sat in their covered courtyard and it was very quiet and peaceful. Not crowded and nice staff ( my personal prefaces because of allergies-staff should not wear perfumes or cologne). My decaf coffee was great. Honey is available. I chose outdoors because of the great weather and not wanting to be indoors. There was traffic going by, but it wasn't to bad at this time in the morning. I found Evarista's on Yelp while driving down to Santa Cruz with some friends and decided to stop in because of the great reviews and lack of wait time to be seated. When we arrived, we were seated right away in the restaurant's covered back patio (they also have a few outdoor tables in the front). The patio was pretty cute, with light-up stars as decoration and propane heaters for colder days. We noticed the Yelp check-in offer for "1 Free Beverage", and had a bit of confusion figuring out which beverages were eligible (no alcohol - just coffee, juice, etc.) I ended up ordering a coffee, as well as the Salmon Benedict. The food came out relatively quickly and our attentive server came by regularly to see if we needed coffee/water refills. Unfortunately, I wasn't a huge fan of the Benedict, only because of the salmon itself. I was expecting smoked salmon like the dish normally comes with, but the fish was fully cooked, which I didn't enjoy. The rest of the Benedict was good though, including the hash browns on the side (you get a choice between these and fruit). My friends ordered the Fish Tacos and Florentine Scramble and both were solid - good but not amazing. However, pricing was extremely reasonable and each of us spent under $20, including tip. Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back, but would choose something different off their menu. read more

We were in Santa Cruz for several hours to tour the university and to check out the town. I found Evarista's Comal on Yelp. It was located a few minutes from downtown Santa Cruz but worth the jaunt. The restaurant itself is humble and unassuming; it reminded us of the casual kitchens we've dined at in Mexico. The food server was friendly and welcoming, and patient with our indecisive teenager. I liked the music - it was in Spanish but seemed eclectic, easy to listen to, and blended well into the background. The server recommended their quesabirria tacos, so that's what I ordered. They were perfectly seasoned and marinated, and the most flavorful I've tasted. Always in search of the world's best huevos rancheros, my husband left feeling very contented, especially since he scored one of my 4 birria tacos. We will definitely return to Evarista's Comal when we visit Santa Cruz again. Ok, so I saw this little place close to our hotel room & thought to look it up on Yelp. Turns out it had pretty good reviews, so I put it on my list of places to eat for our 5-day trip. We finally arrive but have exactly 1 hour to eat & roll! The menu had some pretty good options. It's Monday so I'm opting for what I saw posted on Yelp! A delicious avocado toast & 2 eggs over easy. My husband ordered the bacon & eggs meal. Our coffee came out first but it took a good 5 to 6 minutes for me to finally ask the waiter for sugar. When it's crunch time everything feels like longer, so my husband was super annoyed. Anyway, the food finally arrives & I'm praying it's good because I picked this place.Lol the avocado toast was AMAZING!! Omg I never knew it could be so good! After walking the amazing Rio Del Mar Beach, we were hungry and opted for this restaurant as we had the dog with us. Glad they have outdoor seating. I had the 3 egg omelette with vegetables, hash browns, and tortillas. Fresh & tasty! My partner had a pesto hamburger. Both items were very good. Friendly service. Not too crowded. The patio was quaint and comfortable with shade provided. We parked across the street in residential as the parking lot was full. After that, we strolled Downtown and checked out the stores. This is an absolute gem of a restaurant. Its become my favorite for Sunday Brunch because of the lovely service and great price for perfect portions. Their hollandaise sauce is to die for! I haven't ventured away from the benedicts yet, but my accompanying brunchers spoke highly of the french toast and steak scramble. The staff are always so kind at the front, and you can tell the cooks love what they do. It's a very upbeat, homey environment. To start our server was super kind, very attentive and helpful. We got the chile quiles with over hard eggs and chicaron and let me tell you that was amazing! The chicaron was so good and flavorful and the whole plate just went so well together. The other plate we got was the birria plate. It was also pretty good, but ultimately the reason for only 4 stars. Everything had great flavor, rice, beans, consome, tortillas, salsa, but the meat was kind of interesting and didn't have a lot of flavor, but like I said since everything else was so good it made up for it a little. I think the quesabirrias are probably a better choice since they have a little more things to it so more flavor. Last but not least we tried their salsa matcha/salsa de acete/chile de acete, whatever they call it and it is amazing!
