Here are a couple of tips to ensure a satisfying and pleasant experience: 1. Call to make your appointment 2. Be on time with CLEAN, DRY preferably blown out hair. Makes things go smoother...literally. 3. Know...what style you'd like beforehand. If you're unsure Eva loves it when you bring pics and she'll make recommendations as per your hair/length/time/cost. That way you're both clear on what you want! 4. DON'T haggle or try to negotiate prices...that's just rude. She is a buisiness wonan, a professional. Would you tell your dentist/lawyer/OBGYN how much you want to be charged?? 5. Don't rush your braider asking, "how long till you're finished?"Got plans?....then plan accordingly 'cause beauty takes time boo-boo. You know this. 6. Bring ALL not Some or half of your cash people. You'll be qoted a price......be prepared to pay it before sitting in the braiding chair. [Smh] Hmmm..Half the money....how's half a braided head sound?...and not cute either..Like just the left side. 7. Bring snacks, a book too if you don't want to talk and socialize with your braider. 8. Loud expressive conversations on your cell with ya man? No, no...oh no. We grown and mature folks don't want to hear all ya business...and there's a policy against that. So, cut it short and show some class. 9. I made an appointment for 8am more than a week in advance. I arrived and the door was locked. I texted right away to say I was outside in case the woman was inside. I got a call back within 10 minutes telling me my stylist was having bad cramps and couldn't make it and I could reschedule for later in the day. I asked what time? And the woman said she'd have to find out. Ten minutes later, she calls back and says 3pm. I said I couldn't do 3pm and asked if she could do something earlier. This is a 2 instead of one because the one time I got my hair braided there, they were in the shop, and it was cleanly and my hair done beautifully. Absolutely fabulous job ok super short hair! I made the soonest available appointment since I'm only in town for I don't know how long. I attached a photo of how short my hair is - this is 8-10 weeks after I shaved off all my dreads. Eva was one of the only folks who said she could grip my short hair and agreed to braid it for me. I showed her 4 photos of box braids a bit longer than a bob cut, and she was on point. It's my first time that I've gotten box braids, and it's perfect especially since my natural hair is at an awkward length. Eva's home salon isn't far from the currently listed address. It's very clean, she accommodates for any temperature to make you feel comfy, and she's got a range of streaming on Netflix and her TV (also a great conversationalist FWIW). I really really really liked Eva's. With a lot of hair braiding places, it's dirty, they're late, and unprofessional. I didn't experience ANY of that at Eva's. Her salon is easy to find, super clean, and set up very professionally. Above all, she does an excellent job, my braids lasted over 3 months! Her prices were pretty decent too. It was average for microbraids (about $200). You can find some places that are cheaper, but remember that you get what you pay for. If I have to pay an extra $20 or $40 for a clean professional hair braiding experience, I think it's totally worth it. You're sitting there for over 8 hours! You should at least be comfortable. She really does deserve a 5 star review. She is very sweet, and all that the other reviewers had to say is true. I'm going to continue going to her as long as I have braids and live in the area. Its taken me a while to write this but Eva and her Sister and their Cousin and whomever else they have working there to help out are Fabulous!! I took my daughter in for hair braiding because she swims daily at summer camp. These ladies were Super nice and as I waited, I felt very comfortable talking about Life with them. the laughing and chatting along with their super fast hands helped the time pass by. They were all very professional. Their salon area was a decent size and it wasn't overcrowded. I can only imagine the cramping their fingers must have at the end of the day and it appears that some people forget to Tip.. Come on.. Tip someone who's giving you a great deal and great service. I've had micros done before at numerous other shops and they were always just okay....until now. Eva's shop is very clean (HUGE PLUS) and comfy. My hair looks great and she's very friendly and an excellent braider. I have had my braids in for 3 days and have gotten tons of compliments. She even "created" a custom color blend for my braids. She's also very meticulous.....even after 13 and a half long hours of braiding my hair (did I mention that I have a LOT of hair.lol) she didnt do like a lot of other braiders at the end and try to make bigger braids or try to skip the finishing touches on my head. I'd avoid them. Yes they do a good job with braids, as in they LOOK pretty. But as another reviewer pointed out, most of the stylists have no edges. A bad sign. Also they did my crochet braids wrong and then told me to come back at 12:00 noon the next day to fix or remove them said they couldn't do it until 3pm. I insisted they cut them out and give me a full refund. They did. But I won't be coming back here. Also I noticed after my daily wash-n-go this morning, just having that crochet style in for 12 hours broke off some of my edges in the front: the most delicate part of my hair, which I told her to be careful with before she started. So I've been getting braids for over 10 years from different areas (FL, VA, NY, ...). I know the ins and outs of braidings, surprise charges, and anything you can think of. Since I'm new to the area I tried Eva out because of the good reviews on yelp. Here are brief reasons of all the things that went wrong (this is really brief there is more detail to it) : 1. She canceled my appointment that I made 5 days in advance the day before. And she did not call me to tell me. I called her to confirm. She agreed I was still good for Sunday. She called me back later and said can I change for next week. So I had to were my hair out for a week. 2. She quoted me $180 for small individual braids that reach the bra strap. I was very specific with her about what I wanted because I hate surprise charges when you get there. Sure enough that's what happened. The lady said it was $200 and up for what I wanted. I told her no Eva said $180 and never have I paid more than $180 for them. I called Eva and she did not answer. To avoid the hassle, I agreed to the 200. 3. They did not have the hair color I wanted. I asked Eva what type of hair she uses and if she had the color I wanted. If she didn't have it, it wouldn't have been a problem I would have just bought my own. She didn't know what type of hair she used but was sure she had plenty of dark brown. I get there they only had black and light brown. They lady says they never order dark brown. 4. The braids were not done correctly. the lady doing the back of my hair kept doing it wrong. She was making them big. so the braid would start off fat and then skinny on down. Also, she started the braid off in plaits, so if you wanted to do a ponytail you couldn't make one. The parts were huge, so they can rush through it. 5. They kept talking about my hair and the whole price situation in their language. since it was of french dialect I understood a lot of it. They also said to do it bigger since I was only paying $200. 6. My scalp was itching for about 2-3 weeks. I have no idea why. 7. They left small pieces of my hair out. In different areas, also. 8. After 4 weeks, my hair is untangling, frizzy at the end, and a mess. I'm trying to make it to six weeks. Seriously, since the day I got it done I've been keeping it in french braid because it did not look good out. Positives: the place is clean. I WILL NOT GO BACK. NOT WORTH IT. This is how my experience at Eva's went : I made a call to Eva 7/25/14 to come in for a take down of my braids plus a re-braid. She said she would call me 7/27 to confirm . She did not call I called her the day of my appointment 7/28 to confirm. She asked I come in 30 minutes later than our scheduled appointment. I get to the appointment and we are ready to cute the extensions off of my hair so the un-braiding can begin. She cuts my headphones in the process. Instead of offering to buy me new ones she hands me some black headphones that are not apple quality and do not fit in my ears. I gave them back . I don't complain I sit back in the chair to finish my appointment The girls working on my hair complains that it is taking too long and begins cutting my hair shorter." HOLD ON?? YOU ARE CUTTING MY REAL HAIR!!" I TELL HER. I tell her multiple times to stop cutting because that is where my real hair is. I even show her AND EVA a pic of my real hair before I got braids. SHE CONTINUES TO CUT ANYWAYS. Now I have VERY LARGE chunks of hair missing from my natural hair style. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Then after all of my hair has been taken down, Eva tells me " You have to come back tomorrow to finish because you want small braids."........ We made an appointment for me to get them done today? So now I have to waist a whole day back in here tomorrow? OKAY? So I go back the next day. Eva is not there when I arrive. The ladies doing my hair do not do the first braid correctly. They argue with me about the braids I want. I'm paying them. Do not do my hair the way I don't want it. So she redoes the one braid, and then shows it to me. it is the correct width. DO YOU KNOW THAT IS THE ONLY BRAID SHE DID CORRECTLY? ALL THE OTHERS ARE THE SIZE SHE WANTED THEM TO BE. This woman tricked me by doing one braid the size I wanted so I would agree. Needless to say, my hair is not the length, width or style I want it to be. And Eva charged me $270. I paid her because I know business. Everyone else says I shouldn't of paid her and I should've walked out. This isn't a rant, it is an awareness message for ANYONE wanting professional haircare. Eva is rude and NOT a professional. DO NOT GO HERE. I have to now pay more money for a legitimate shop to take my braids out and give me exactly what I want. read more

I rarely do reviews but I have to. 1. Appointment time was 9:30, girls arrived late and didn't get started until 10:30 2. I told the owner and braider I wanted my box braids long. I kept hearing the owner tell my braider "longer and fuller," which gave me anxiety. 3. I ended up with very spaced out braids in the back, and the back is also much shorter than the front. 4. The braid is only braided halfway down and they are all different lengths. 5. It took over 8 hours( a second girl joined in after about 6 hours. ) 6. Last BUT definitely not least, the braids were so tight that my edges are coming out. After a few days I was wondering why a few braids around my edges were loose. I took them down in hopes of rebraiding them, only to have my edges come out with the extensions( I've always had FULL edges.) I'm devastated as this has never happened. I got my hair done back in January and even when I'd gotten it done, I knew there were a lot of things done wrong when the person was actually braiding my hair. The person who was supposed to do my hair arrived late, which I would have been fine with if my hair had been done well. I repeatedly said that I didn't want my hair braided too tightly because I had experienced SIGNIFICANT hair loss in the past from braids that were done too tightly. I said this repeatedly and I had indicated that I wanted the hair to go just slightly past my shoulders. None of this was heeded and, as a previous reviewer mentioned, the braids aren't done evenly. They're made to be fat at the beginning and skinny towards the end. Maybe this is a style and the stylist didn't know what I meant when I said that I'd wanted box braids that were a little less then a pencil in diameter. I used to get my hair braided back in the 90s before some of the newer styles came in and I'm not familiar with all the things they do these days, so I really tried to give the hair dresser the benefit of the doubt. When I mentioned the uneven size of the braids to the person doing my hair, the lady at first tried to deny it but then added more hair to the length as she went on. So by the end of the sitting I just wanted to be done and out. She trimmed off the stray hair (which wouldn't have been necessary if the hair length had been uniform) and she went about it very vigorously so I was terrified that she had cut some of my natural hair. At this point, I really was just tired and wanted to get out so I paid 200 even though I was quoted 180 and just got out of there. So now, here I am 3 months later (I've been busy with work so I couldn't take it out sooner) and low and I'm finding cut out bits of my curly hair mixed in with the braids. I went to Eva's two weeks ago to get micro braids. I was there on time, but they got started a little late, about 40 minutes. My braider was pretty fast. It took about 8.5 hours. They came out beautiful. They are super easy and make life easier. I would recommend Eva's. I like how they are conveniently located. I've been in the process of transitioning back to my natural hair texture with braids since May 2012, so keep in mind this review is about the damage done to my natural, practically untouched, healthy hair. 1: I had to wait 30 minutes for my stylist. They apologized, so I didn't make much of it at the time. 2: My stylist did not have adequate knowledge of braiding techniques; I had to explain that she could make my micro-braids longer by attaching the hair off-center. I also had to practically demand that my braids be tied-off and not glued. I didn't even know gluing braids was common practice, but I've never put glue in my hair and I surely do not plan on starting when I'm trying to transition away from chemicals. 3: Near the end of the session, I informed the stylist that the braids were too tight TWICE, but they remained tight. 4: Once home, I realised the tie-offs I requested were loose already. 5: I also realised that the reason the braids were too tight near the end of the session was that the stylist braided the hair near the front of the hair line extremely tight in order to make the braids look unnaturally neat. (I realise many women may prefer the look of braids pasted directly onto the scalp, but I prefer to look like I have hair growing out of my head) 6: After trying to sleep off my concerns, I woke up in the middle of the night & just HAD to redo a number of the braids myself due to pain. After rebraiding a few particularly painful patches, I had over half the amount of hair left over. Meaning, they put over twice as much hair as necessary on the itty bitty baby hairs near my hairline. 7: After about month, I could no longer bear the braids because they were attached in such a way that they were constantly falling in my face and irritating my skin. 8: Upon removing the braids, my found my hair in terrible condition. I have completely bald patches in the two top corners of my hairline and I lost an unreasonable amount of hair while shampooing. My fiance who watched this entire process, including the eight hour salon session, concurs. (And, if it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't even feel comfortable leaving the house at this point) I know these women are just trying to make a living, and I appreciate them sitting in one spot for eight hours to style my hair but I can't honestly recommend their services knowing how things have turned out. I had been going to Eva once sometimes two times a year for the summer time for a couple of years. At first I had a very good experience. They had reasonable prices, a clean work space, and different styles. They were usually late but their service made up for that and I just began to arrive later. Last year I began my journey to healthy hair after a lot of heat damage and did twist out styles mainly. About a month ago i decided it was time for my big chop and wanted to do protective styles for a while so my hair could grow more. The day after I cut 70% of my hair off I go to Eva. When I got there, We would always discuss a little before on the length I wanted. Then some other lady, who is not as skilled as Eva, started on my hair. She didn't ask me what length I wanted (I also forgot to tell her so its a fault on both sides) so about 1/5 of the way through I remember and say that I want the braids bra length. She then had an attitude (rightfully so). My mother and I offered to help take them out so she could start again but she just kept doing the waist length and ignoring all of our requests. Finally she finished my hair and it looked awful. The ends were terrible, they had little knots on the end (which i've never seen them do before), they were still a little longer than i liked but I didn't want to complain anymore. Right when I was about to leave, Eva walks into the store and I tell her about the incident. She tells me that if they unravel I can come back and she'll redo them no cost. Of course the next day they unravel, and I have to go back two days later. When I go back they redo the front and back and did it very roughly. The hair still didn't look good when they redid it because they braided it halfway down and the other half was straight because they wanted to save time. I ended wearing it in a bun for about a month and a couple weeks. I am not going back! I would recommend Amen's. read more

I've gone to EVA only twice now over the last 2 yrs after finding her on yelp (see profile pic-- these braides were atleast 2 months old here). 1st experience: The shop is clean, and the staff is friendly. She listened to what I wanted and ensured I had a good experience. She engaged me in conversation and allowed me to watch TV. Eva did my braids her self, but it took much longer than I would have liked. She charged me $180 for senegalese braids, and did them long (which I liked at first). After a few weeks I thought there were a little too long for me, and especially heavy on my neck. I knew the next time I went I would get them a "natural" length that will make it easier for washing and general upkeep. Also, she had a credit card machine which made it much more convenient. Positives: neat, meticulous, clean shop, decent pricing, credit card machine, braids lasted for about 5months Negatives: took over 7 hrs, braids were too long, I had to curl the ends myself. 2nd experience: Over the phone I was told that the same braids would be $200 now since they do them long, when I asked about adding color, she said she had the color I wanted. Since I didnt want them long, I asked if it would be less, she said yes. Upon getting there, and reminding her about the color, she brought out a auburn color, and not a burgundy red like I initially asked for! I didnt even know what the color was until they started towards the front of my head (my mistake) so I went with it anyway. At the end of the day it turned out nice, but I still wished it was a little darker. This time she also called in someone to help (thank God!) so that was a plus. She asked me the length and i said (like yours) at the time her braids were shoulder length. Not paying any attention, I noticed that they kept adding hair. She also told me the price would still be $200! WHAT! ok so now you are doing them long and I asked for shoulder lenght, and you are still charging me more.. hmmm! When it was all said and done, she curled them this time. Ok cool. when it came time to pay, I handed her my check card. She looked at me like I was crazy and said "we dont take that anymore, you can go to the atm across the street." Umm no, Im not paying a fee to take money out when you never told me you dont take cc until now! so I found an atm from my bank about a mile away and told her I wuold be back. She then asked me if it was ok if her helper would ride with me (ok what so now you think im not coming back, I would have left collateral). Fine! So I go to get the money and came back and gave it to the girl and dropped her off. WHAT AN INCONVENIENCE. Positives: Same service as before but faster, braids lasted about 4 months, clean shop/ bathroom. Negatives: braids were STILL too long. All and all Eva's still provides a great service, you just have to be VERY specific and VERY assuring of what you want and are getting. Suggestions are good, but dont do what you want when the customer did not ask for that! I'll go back, but with clearer and more SPECIFIC specifications next time! :-) read more

So I went to Eva's again to get my twist done. This was a pretty bad experience compared to the previous visits. I had two women do my hair neither of which I have seen before. One was okay, one was bad. She was too heavy-handed, kind of rude to me, and made slick remarks ( I studied french for 3 years so I picked up on bits of what she said.) My twist also are not that well done. Some of the twist are way to thin at the end which means she was too lazy to add hair as she braided down to ensure the twist were off an even size. Overall not too happy this time. I am not sure if I will go back. If go back I will make sure to request Eva herself or Aisha the others so far have not been that great at braiding nor that friendly. To top it off I was over charged. I got my twist twice the size as last time, I actually have 1/2 as many twist but paid the same price.. go figure. read more

I have been going to Eva for the past year now and will continue to patronize her business because she does excellent work! Eva and her sister Fatou are kind, professional women that work hard for their money. So far I have gotten twists and micros from them and each time I was happy with the results. I have been going to Eva for years now, finding her through a friend. She did my micros for my wedding, and I have experienced her beautiful work and kinds of braids and styles. She is VERY professional. Since going to her, my hair has grown like a weed! No more breaking off around my hairline or those painful days after your appointment. I absolutely love her, and will wait if she is booked up. Please don't forget to tip Eva and her wonderful staff when you visit. She takes the time to make you comfortable, placing tables out if you have work to do, draping you in a cape so you are not covered in hair when you leave, and keeping her establishment clean and sanitized. I only been to Eva's once but had an amazing experience. I found her salon on here. The same day i called to see if she was avaliable she booked me. Tx for THAT cause it was close to Christmas. I enjoyed the twist you put in my head. Ihad them for two weeks. but working out at xsport, walking in the steam room with a shower cap on, and sleeping without a do rag just didnt help them to last longer. My first time going here and I love it. It's hard to find a PROFESSIONAL hair braiding shop with skilled workers. This place was certainly a relief when I came in on a Tuesday!! Walking in, the neighborhood was great. Then the shop was so nice and clean. I felt comfortable being there. TV, water, comfortable seats, swept floor, very nice and updated space. New feel. Eva and her assistant were very courteous. And they were reallly fast in the process. Senegalese twist, small, down to butt and they finished within 5hours. And this is THE BEST MY HAIR HAS EVER LOOKED!! Still amazed! I get so many compliments!!! My only complaint:they cleaned up my twist(go over with scissors, mouse, spray, etc) but they did miss maybe two to three. So, this is why they get 4/5 stars. read more
