I used to come here Daily, but now I come here Weekley. Actually lately I don't come at all. I was a Y member for 10 years and this was probably my 2nd fave Houston area location after downtown. It did get busy during rush hour, but what doesn't. However, their prices shot up during COVID, they started limiting workouts and that lasted for ages, and became extremely shady with their finances. They still owe us $500 for all the money they charged us after we canceled, but the joke is on them, because I tell everyone their shady practices and they've probably lost a lot more than 500 in dues from me and a lot more than 50,000 in dues from the people I've told the honest truth to. I like coming to this gym. There's a couple of staff members that I think are great. Others ... not so much. I've called downstairs to report 3-4 empty disinfectant bottles in the weight room, only to find them still empty when I finished the treadmill 40 min later. The guys who walk around in their gym T shirts seem generally unhelpful and even dismissive unless you seem to know them personally. This gym is the least friendly out of memberships I've had at 24 hour, EOS and Gold's gym back in the day. read more

I believe in rating places within context. For a YMCA, I think this place is amazing! I came to use my free one-day trial, and I immediately bought a membership after working out. I had been struggling to find an inexpensive, yet high quality gym that had a good variety of classes to fit my schedule. This location pretty much has classes all day long, I love it! So far I've attended Bodypump and cycling, and I highly endorse both. Something else I love is that they have Les Mills on-demand for the group fitness classes which means you can take a virtual on-demand class anytime there isn't a live class going on. They leave the rooms and equipment open so the possibilities are endless. FYI, the cycling bikes are compatible with SPD cleats. read more

First time visiting Weekley as our steam room in Trotter has been under construction for over a month. First impression was ok as the facility looks dated. We saw a lot of people and unsure if there was any social distancing. Went straight to the steam room and there was a sign posted on the door stating no more than 3 people in the room. I personally think 3 is too many due to the small enclosed space especially during COVID times. There was a mist control which is a nice feature as I can control the amount of steam mist. Didn't really get to check out other parts of the gym. read more

This was my YMCA before the COVID pandemic hit and I haven't been back since. For any YMCA members reading this during the pandemic, you can put your account on a three month hold and renew as needed. I think family memberships are now $75, but they may increase again once the pandemic is over. This seems like your typical YMCA, but mind you, I have only been to this one and the Trotter location. The facility and accommodations aren't the most luxurious, but it's more than adequate for anyone looking for a decent workout. I used to come before rush hour, so I never had to wait for an elliptical, although sometimes there was waiting for the weight machines. Maybe this is just my experience, but some of the other gym-goers can be kind of pushy and entitled. Well to be fair, it's only one particular little older lady I have in mind . . . I've seen her start a number of fights with other people because she does not like waiting her turn. I've noticed that the floor staff kind of just stares on in horror as she makes snide comments about and argues with anyone she thinks is taking too long in any machine she's waiting on. I'm not sure if she's still frequently this location, but it was always a little WTF and a little comical whenever I saw her huffing and puffing about having to actually wait for her turn. I only tried two group classes and one of the instructors very clearly did not give a crap about the class, while the other one was very engaging and instructive so your mileage may vary when it comes to group classes. When my son was a baby, I used to leave my son at the childcare center and he always had a great time! It was nice to have that option it allowed me time to workout and it also acclimated him to other people before I started sending him to daycare. I believe the childcare center will no longer change dirty diapers, so that's just something to bear in mind! If you're looking for family time pool access, I think the Trotter location might be nicer and more spacious! Well I think overall, Trotter is larger and more spacious, but I think Weekley does have a couple more updated machines (that may have changed since the pandemic?). And of course the YMCA offers excellent programs for senior citizens, kids, and in particular underprivileged youth so it's a great overall organization! read more

Great place to go for a workout. I felt at home every time I visited. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Never really a lot of people, unless the kids get out of school, but all of the equipment, dumbbells and amenities are in great condition. I love this Y - it's convenient with easy parking and plenty of workout equipment and large workout area. I also like the lap pool although it's always full due to lanes for lessons and swim team. I really appreciate all the programs they have for kids and I enjoy taking part in the Christmas gift exchange. For the money it's a GREAT value. read more

Open letter to Weekly YMCA On 7/7/22 my car was stolen from the weekly YMCA parking lot. I had arrived at the gym at around 5.05pm, (it was pouring with rain) I checked in with my key card which was attached to the car key. I placed my gym bag on the coat hanger, with my jacket and car key in it. I continued with my workout, when I returned I noticed that someone had tampered with my bag and my jacket was missing. I reported it to staff immediately, on realizing my car keys were also missing,I went outside to check for my car Infiniti Fx35 plate LXY 1604 missing at the parking lot on the right side as you enter the ymca building main entrance next to the handicap spot. I called and waited for the hpd constable who came after almost an hour , I recorded my incident report ,and got my case report number ,since that day my car is still missing, ymca has not released any video evidence to me or police. Furthermore, the YMCA has done nothing to notify members that a thief had entered the building, there has been no effort to increase security. Yes, perhaps I should have been more wise by putting my key in the lockboxes, but I left my bag were it was with the false surety that the ymca checks all people who enter to go use their facility. I understand they cannot release the video footage but they are able to screenshot the image and notify people. The responsibility of putting my key in a safe spot, is my responsibility. Keeping people and their belongings safe, and monitoring who does or does not enter the facility with or without a membership is their responsibility. If they didn't check in then how did they get upstairs, and why can't they look at their own video imaging? And if they did check in then why aren't they helping me locate this person? In the last four years I have faithfully invested $6480, into an organization that offers community and promises to support its members as a family. I believed in this cause, yet I have been deeply disappointed at the lack of care. I have not received any help in any attempt to locate my car. We are a single car family, it is the same car that I take my wife to work with and drop my kids at school. It is a car that I have faithfully paid off and had no debt on. We are having to recover this in the midst of inflation rising, while juggling job and three kids. Weekley YMCA, you advertise that this organization 'strengthens communities, changes lives and inspires action in your community" but I have yet to experience this. Yours truly, Steve. read more

YMCA is my gym since 2015. I liked it so much that I was going everyday. The stuff was helpful and polite and friendly and professional. The machines they were kinda old used. But they upgraded brand new machines after Covid. So it's actually better now. They fixed the gym to look nicer but the managing isn't that great as it used too. They have been closing the gym without us knowing. There is one case, after work I wanted to go to the swimming pool and they told me it will close in 15min due to a stuff meeting. I was not aware of it. They said they posted it online and on instagram. But nothing it was on there to inform us. If they wanted to be more organized, they should have the staff meeting after working hours. Because as client we pay the gym. So I do deserve a swim after a hard-working day... I do see that the staff are in that polite and friendly. So makes the environment not look good. I wouldn't recommend going to this ymca. Maybe try the San Philip and one. I do like going there.. and I'm very disappointed that I will be leaving my old ymca. read more

my rating will change once the phone worker Mary is changed. while at work I had my daughter call about the student member ship and Mary started telling her about the one for college student which I thought was weird but later when my daughter asked for what all she needed Mary said "DW2" and as soon as my daughter asked wheat that was she quickly said please hold before she could finish asking all the way then came back with the question of how old are you. then proceeded to cut my daughter off with any other questions saying she needs to be 18 this that and the 3rd but I know the membership is free for the summer. my daughter even tried to say she would be 18 soon but Mary still didn't answer the questions she really needed to ask. it's rude to cut people off especially when they are genuinely confused read more

I came to the facility because my daughter attends school nearby. As a a result, I thought it would be convenient to work out here. It started out being wonderful until my daughter started to tell about the harassment she was receiving from a front desk clerk, Mary. My daughter is quiet and keeps to her small friend group, but is smaller than the other students in attendance. As a result, Mary tried to ask my middle schooler to go to the kid's room where they were literally blowing bubbles. She went further to bother her by singling her out and asking her to leave a room, and called me while I was obviously sweating and in the middle of a work out. I've never been more annoyed during a time I am supposed to decompress. When I came down to check on my daughter, there were several kids literally roaming about the premises, unmonitored. I didn't appreciate the double standard and harassment from Mary, so much so that I had to cancel my membership. read more

Machines: Clean enough and none were out of order. Wt machines: Tightly packed, and they can shift a bit. I felt a bit tenuously close to the guy in his machine, next to me. Not sure if he felt the same. Equipment options are good, with a scant few rare-to-find machines, and SMARTLY doubled on the biceps and triceps machines. The machines are the better side of middle-of-the-road in ergonomics. The aerobic machines are sardine packed. If you are prone to high body temps, this sucks quite a bit. However, if you're prone to feeling chilly this is probably perfectly packed for you. Staff: Friendly enough, w pleasant to neutral demeanors. Responsive. Members: They mind their business, clean up after themselves, even good about returning the wts. No alpha issues going on either. All great, but it was a full gym 830-930am. Although, I didn't have to wait long for any machine. In fact, the little waiting I did was mostly unnoticeable. read more

This YMCA gym has a wide selection of equipment in great condition. There's plenty of treadmills, elipticals and a sizeable weight section. It can get pretty crowded during peak times but that's to be expected. I really like that they provide towels on the exercise floor and in the locker rooms. The only classes I've taken here are the spin classes which tend to be hit or miss depending on the instructor- there have been more mediocre classes than great ones. read more

This Y is still my 5-star fitness resort when visiting Houston. It's worth the 9.64 miles I drive from where I'm staying to this place. I can't add any more to my previous review except to say that they still have really high standards here for making everyone feel welcome and pursuing fitness. I did notice a few things which don't necessarily detract from the review, but are more notes. I was amazed how many people use the resistance equipment. Even with two sets of virtually the same Selectorized machines (currently Precor and older models of Cybex), I had a difficult time completing circuit training in the order I hoped to accomplish. Even on a late Saturday, there were at least 10 people hoping around, doing their FitLinxx circuit. One of the guys who works there said they're eventually getting rid of the Cybex machines in favor of the Precor machines. Another thing: if you're going to use the locker rooms, wear flip-flops or shower shoes. Don't walk around with bare feet. Just don't. read more

Location is convenient however, 1. Almost always between 5-6:30 there isn't ample parking 2. Not enough standing weights to support number of people who would like to work on weights but plenty of treadmills 3. Lack of communication from staff top to bottom always being passed around to voicemail- very unprofessional 4. Out door pool is amazing but almost always slide is closed, what's the point of having it if it's never open 5. Swim teachers for younger kids are amazing 6. Variety of sports for youth but swimming tops most If anything, communication between staff and members is key. Lack of communication causes unnecessary disputes. read more

I will start off by saying that I only joined for the group fitness classes and to use the free weights and occasionally the treadmill in the wellness center, so my review only covers those aspects of this YMCA. The facility itself is excellent -- everything is nice and clean, including the bathrooms/locker rooms. The classes are enjoyable and there's a whole bunch of them, at all hours of the day. Yoga, pilates, nightclub dance, BodyCombat, and kickboxing were some of the ones I tried. I enjoyed most of the classes, but one in particular worried me--the Les Mills BodyPump class. It was pretty crowded in there and the instructor didn't seem too interested in making sure each person had proper form. Considering people can get really hurt in situations like that, it was a bit worrisome to see people swinging around barbells without having any idea about proper form, and an instructor who didn't want to take the time to explain it. Every time I needed to talk to someone at the front desk, I was made to feel like I was somehow "bothering" them. Also, the free weight section is pathetically small and only has two flat benches. If I have to fight for a bench at 6 in the morning, I'd hate to think how impossible it would be to work out during busier times! Half the time people take weights to different areas of the gym and then don't put them back, so you can't always find the ones you need. If you try to do squats with the barbells in front of the mirror, get ready to have to stop and move out of the way if someone needs to get to the bathroom. Also watch out for the lady who walks in, throws her purse and water bottle on one of the benches, then starts using other equipment--thereby taking up a whole flat bench that someone else could be using. All this wouldn't bother me as much if it was cheap, but $60/month for an individual is ridiculous! I can see how families with children would benefit from one of the family plans, but it doesn't make sense to do this as a single person. I found out from another member that they have reduced rates for people who fall below a certain income level, which would have benefited me. It would have been nice if someone at the front desk had mentioned that to me when I signed up! When I went to ask about the reduced rate, I was given a form and told to fill it out. As soon as I sat down to complete the form, I realized it just wasn't worth the effort. I ended up canceling my membership and getting a special at 24-Hour Fitness for $25/month. The nearest 24HF to my apartment is huge and you know what? When I walk in at 6:00 in the morning, I can have a bench to myself and all the weights are right where they are supposed to be. Call me crazy but I think that's a way better deal. read more

I'm so lucky to be living within walking distance of this fitness/community mecca! This Y was so popular that it had to undergo an expansion. The place is usually heaving but in a good way and usually the crowd eases up a bit later on in the evening. I really enjoy and appreciate the diverse crowd this place draws, old, young, professional, non professional, students, international, as well as pure local. I spent a whole summer in college lounging by the pool with my neighbors kids when I babysat, back then they only had one pool, today there are 3 and one is strictly reserved for lap swimming! I've mainly attended the Group Exercise classes, yoga, pilates, kickboxing, cycling, etc. and all the instructors have been great and most importantly helpful. For an inexperienced gym user like myself they have a program called FitLinxx which teams you up with a worker over a couple sessions and introduces you to all the workout machinery in the building. FitLinxx, which is a computerized system -you punch in your personal ID into every exercise machine, also helps the more experienced keep track of their workouts, brilliant right?! The Y offers tons of other programs including team sports, bootcamps, personal training and yesterday I picked up a flyer advertising boxing, yes the real deal! It peaked my interest for sure! The atmosphere at this location is really cozy and I'm always happy to see the same friendly faces in my yoga class that I'm getting to know more and more as I've intensified my practice. Moved to this gym from Trotter and have to admit I miss the former. Pros: -Spacious facility (there's always machines available) -Ample class schedule -Cannot say enough nice things about Cynthia the Monday/Wednesday spin instructor. She provides a full workout spin class, changes the music weekly, and makes sure we are all engaged in the class. After a workout one day, she provided me with proper bike measurements that have made all of the difference in my riding. Plus the fact that she has a Facebook group for motivational workout advice and healthy recipes really adds to the camaraderie of our class. Cons: -The locker room + showers desperately need renovations -There is no women's only workout room like at Tellepsen or Trotter -The Wednesday body pump class is mediocre. I attend because it's the only one that works with my schedule, but the instructor always starts the class late, ends early, and cuts Les Mils designed exercises. This does not only cheat attendees from a full workout, but it also could lead to injuries. I sent in a complaint to the admin office and suggested to Marcie that we finish the full class -- the requests have gone unnoticed. If you do get a membership, DO NOT take this class. read more

We've belonged to the Meyerland 24 Hour Fitness for a couple of years but recently joined the Weekley Family YMCA to access the wide range of kids' programs for our six year-old son. Now, with both facilities to choose from, I find myself working out at the Y exclusively because the vibe is just a whole lot nicer. I think the better vibe is a product of the Y approach, where no one's trying to sell you training services or protein powder, and the overall friendly nature of the people working there. Positives include extremely affordable memberships and camps, swim lessons, etc. Parents' night out is once a month and it's a steal at $10 per kid. The size of the workout area isn't huge but I've never waited for a machine on weekday mornings. Oh, and workout towels are included. One less thing to wash! Only potential negative is the slightly heavy handed faith-based messaging in the building. Yeah, I know the C stands for Christian and I'm one myself, but, for me, having the "through Christ who strengthens me" passage painted on the fitness center wall is a bit much. I'd rather the atmosphere were more neutral and thus more inclusive. read more

I joined this Y in November and it was an excellent decision, considering the fact that I love to go out to eat so much! It's around $50/month for a single person with a $100 initiation fee, but you get a discount if your annual income is less than a certain threshhold (they can run the exact numbers for you) So I'm paying $38 a month for services I'd get elsewhere for WAY more $$. There are more exercise classes at this location than Carter has pills. Here's an example: Cardio kickboxing - went this morning. Instructor Lisa kicks your butt and makes you feel good about it. It's my favorite class. Power Yoga - this kind of yoga wakes you up and makes you strong. It's vinyasa, so there's a lot of movement and different poses. I promise you, you won't be bored, and you'll always be challenged. Chiseled - the most fun class of all time. Instructor Niki has a sequined top and long, blonde hair. She's hilarious, and you don't feel like you're working hard even though the workout is intense. There must be at least 100 classes a week. Examples include BodyPump (a weights class), Salsa, World Dance, Deep Water Exercise, Cardio Step, Pilates, Cycling, and so much more. Okay after one of my co-workers young husband recently died of a heart attack, I decided that I need to start getting back into shape. I have 2 kids (3 year old and 1 year old), so I did not want them to grow up without a father.. since my parents died when I was very young... so I know how it feels.. So I decided that I need to join a gym. I drive past the YMCA Weekly every day coming home from work. So I stopped by to take a tour of the facility and see what they had to offer. They seem to have a lot of nice programs/classes that would benefit me and my wife. Also they had a lot of activities for young children (swimming, soccer, etc). The workout room/equipment room is up to date. They had a great variety of fitness/resistance equipment. I did not see a long line to use anything. Also they are more updated (using technology), so I can keep track of my progress. Also a big plus is they have a big pool for the kids and adults to swim in during those hot summer days. This to me is worth the membership cost. My children love the water. What I really like about the place is they have childcare facility that is broken up by age group. So I cannot wait to utilize this. So I cannot wait to get the most of my membership... Lets see if I can whip myself into shape. read more

Better than I remembered! I used to come to the Weekley Y during high school and early college (8-5 years ago), and this has place has changed so much since then, and for the better! I recently purchased a corporate membership here ($38 per month) and have been coming 3-4 days a week for the last couple of weeks. There are so many more programs here than they had in the past, including more opportunities for kids' team sports and after school events, as well as expanded group exercise classes and TONS of cardio equipment in the gym. They even offer a parents' night out one Saturday every month from 6:30 - 10:30 p.m., where you can drop off your kids and head out for date night. At $15 per kid, it's much cheaper than a babysitter, and probably more fun for the kids, too! The Wellness Center (a.k.a. the gym - this is not to be confused with the basketball court, which is what the Y calls the gym...confusing, I know) can be a little busy at peak hours, e.g. weeknights between 5-7 p.m. and early Saturday mornings, but I have never had to wait to use any any cardio equipment, and wait times are always minimal for the weight machines. There's plenty of space, large mats and floor-to-ceiling mirrors in the free weight section, too. There are typically several employees walking around the Wellness Center and they're happy to help if you need a spotter or require assistance when using a machine The group exercise classes are great. I have always loved spin classes, and while the ones here are not as challenging as others, they get the job done and you can certainly challenge yourself as much or as little as you'd like. They also have step classes, Zumba, Pilates, H.I.I.T., kickboxing, and several different Yoga classes of varying practices, among many more. Basically, if you can dream it up, they have it here. You can also sign up for personal training sessions, as well as group classes like boot camp, for an additional cost. There are several classes for "active older adults," too, including line dancing! What a hoot. The women's locker room is always clean (I obviously can't speak for the men's), but it is a bit dated when compared with the rest of the facility. In the locker room there are plenty of showers, bathroom stalls, and changing rooms, so you can get in and out quickly. There are a few mini-hairdryers lying around, too. The steam room is my MOST FAVORITE THING EVER, and it's always completely empty. It's a great way to wind down after an intense workout. What I like most about the steam room here, is that it is not shared between men and women like at some other gyms (looking at you, Meyerland 24-Hour Fitness). That means, I can strip down to a sports bra & undies and sit on a towel while I soak up the steam, rather than having to dress more modestly in a shared steam room. If I had one complaint about the Weekley YMCA, it would be that there are too many children running around, but I suppose that's what I get for signing up at a *family* gym. The upside of this "complaint" is that because the Weekley YMCA is a family place, there are no creepy gym rats here to distract you from your workout or catcall, which is a problem I've had at places like the Meyerland 24 Hour Fitness I mentioned previously. I could also do without the Bible verses on the wall, but again, that's just me. One more thing to note - this location doesn't open until after noon on Sundays, which I initially found a bit annoying, but I'm guessing it was designed this way to give employees and members time to worship and rest. It is just something to take into account when planning your Sunday workout. If you haven't been here in a while, it's definitely time to come in for a second look! read more

I came to this YMCA two summers in a row and really enjoyed it! I loved coming here in the morning when it was super empty. (: They have a fitness app on all of the weight/cardio machines, so you can track your activities. You have to set up an appointment to get registered on each machine, but then it even keeps track of how much you've lifted (or ran/ellipticalled?) and the settings you need for each machine. You can also manually enter any classes you've taken. The locker room is pretty big, and the steam room is also located in there. I only went swimming here once, but the lap pool is a decent size! A lot of the times the parking lot is full, so you have to park further away on the street by Pershing. But more walking is good, right? My favorite classes are kickboxing with Laura and yoga with Dwayne. This Y has a ton of classes, equipment, space - lots of everything (much of which has been highlighted well in other reviews). It is well maintained and a great location. I use the childcare often for my infant son, and it is a good facility with separate spaces for different ages, and the daycare workers are really great with my son. He is always in a good mood when I pick him up and happy to see the staff when I drop him off. I waited until he was about seven months old to take him and rarely leave him for more than an hour, but I feel good about the time he is there. My only complaint is that the locker rooms are pretty sparse. They could use an upgrade, but overall they aren't bad. A great YMCA - I've really gotten a lot of use out of my membership and i really recommend this location. read more

The swimming Director this 2018 is very rude, un respectful with no manners. Besides if you apply for swimming lessons do not be surprise if you get discriminated against. The rest of the Y is ok. read more

As a parent, the y has been such a blessing! The child watch is amazing and included in the membership price! They know my child by name and she loves being in there. It gives me such a huge piece of mind so I don't feel guilty for working out. There's a ton of different classes- a handful that are incredible if you like intensity. Showers are "ok". They are very basic but I also know it's a fraction of the price compared to the fancy gyms with fancy showers so it doesn't bother me. They're always clean so that's the most important. Staff and Mr. Marvin greeting you at the door really make you feel welcome! read more

I joined the Y after I learned the nonprofit I work for has a great discounted membership - less than $15/month for just me! I also wanted to get back into lifting weights (for health), and their cardio/weight room is great. Many, many treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals, and there is always one open when I go. The downside to the facility is that there aren't a lot of weight machines or a large free weight area. When it is busy, I've had to wait for a machine or bench to clear, or I had to modify my workout. I've only attended one class thus far, but it was great! The instructor was friendly and communicated well. The schedule is packed with different types of classes and intensity/skill levels! If I could change one thing, I would add stair climbers in the cardio area. (I just really want some killer calves!) Otherwise, this Y is great, especially for the membership I am able to pay. read more

I have been a member of the YMCA family for about 4 years. I can say that this place just feels like home to me. The staff is very friendly and always helpful. The YMCA itself is always finding way to improve from different programs to upgrades in the building. Recently there has been a lots of construction around the YMCA. The pool, locker rooms and weight room have all been upgraded. Several rooms have been added as well. I believe a smoothie bar/cafe is being added. Only one word describe all of this is wow! At one point, this was a wonderful place for families. Great location. Pool is now over crowded with lessons leaving only 3 lanes open for swimmers--only 6 people can swim during rush hour. Courts always have practice or games. Can't take my kiddo after work anymore because he isn't old enough to use the gym. The facility and pool close early making it tough for working folks to work out. Do you know of any great locations for families? Please share. read more

I've been a member here for over 5 years and I have to say it's a pretty consistent establishment with tons of positive energy. The gentlemen that greets you at the door every morning is a gem, his smile and sincere salutations really add to my day. The entire facility is pretty clean for the most part, at least in comparison to 24 hr where I'm also a member. I'm at the gym 3-4 times per week and rotate between the two. I use the locker rooms including the steam room at the YMCA, something I would never do at 24hr. The classes are hit or miss. Since they cater to a range of people, you have to make sure you get in the right class. I do all my Zumba at 24 hr and have yet to find someone I like at the Y. For Yoga/Pilates at this YMCA location Tomoko is my favorite....for intermediate Olga is great! They have a room designated for yoga that's really nice and they offer reformer classes for an extra fee. Most of the step and sculpting classes are challenging although the rooms are pretty small so you have to arrive early. I initially joined for my kids and the sports programs are a great way to introduce your child to a sport they have never tried. My son began soccer here and now he's been playing for a competitive league (EDDOA) for almost 7 years. We recently returned to the Y to introduce him to football and the experience has been good. They aren't as organized as say some of the larger competitive leagues but the coaches are great and the spirit is positive. I also had my niece play tennis with the Y for 3-4 seasons and she loved it. Coach Ralph is a character but he's good and the kids really love him. I have had a few mishaps here and there with some of the staff but overall I would recommend this location to anyone looking for a good family fitness facility. read more

This Y isn't perfect, but its great for me. Specifically I like: 1. The Family Friendly pools 2. The constantly updating Precor Elliptical machines 3.
