I stopped by for the first time this weekend and had an amazing experience. From the lobby to the locker room to the massage room, everything was clean and very calming. The robe is big but thin, and the sandals were super comfy. The space itself is pretty large and very quiet, the paint and decor have a really relaxing, mindful effect. The service was great, check in was a breeze and my massage therapist, John, was fantastic! Super knowledgeable, he checked in with me several times during the session, and he was very attentive. I don't have pictures, because respect for the space that it is. I was gifted a massage here, the check-in process was okay, definitely didnt anticipate all that paperwork but it made sense. I went to change out of my street clothes for their gown and slippers and well, I could not fit either. I was confused, no one had asked my size so I figured the items would be fit most? Im an XL and that robe could not go around, the slippers were like a size 7. The kicker was you were supposed to undress to sit in a coed waiting space with a direct line of sight for thr front door. I was very uncomfortable. I thought for sure I must have missed something. I went back and grabbed a towel (that also did not.wrap around me) to cover anything exposed. The massage itself was a good one technically, but the room was hard to relax in as I could hear cars passing by in traffic and passersby on the sidewalk talking. Personally, I am drawn to go back but I highly suggest some additions to have all guest feel welcomed in the space. read more

I would be cautious about giving your business to Even Keel. I waited a long time before writing this review, both because I understand that small businesses rely on reviews and because it requires sharing something personal. With that said, I had a truly awful experience at Even Keel. I wanted my massage with Even Keel to be over from the moment it started. I didn't feel like the therapist who worked with me had listened to my preferences at all; to the contrary, the best way to describe how I felt is like a piece of meat marinating. It was bad enough that I asked to end the massage early. If things had ended here, I honestly wouldn't feel compelled to write a review. Again, I understand that sometimes there might just not be a connection between the therapist and the person getting a massage. But after my early exit from my massage, I was repeatedly told that "sometimes massages just bring up emotions" rather than given acknowledgement that my experience had clearly been negative. When I spoke to the manager, again, instead of hearing my concerns, she told me that the therapist who had worked with me had "only ever received positive reviews," which, in the moment, felt like she didn't believe what I was saying about how negative my experience had been. She also had this conversation with me in the lobby in front of other guests, even though I was in tears, rather than providing a more private space. And after all that, nobody ever asked if I wanted a partial refund or Even Keel credit, or, for that matter, apologized. This was many months ago and I'm still not ready to get another massage anywhere. I want to be clear -- the therapist who worked with me didn't cross any professional lines. The point of me sharing this experience is that already, putting yourself on a massage table can feel like a vulnerable situation. It was insulting and distressing to feel like at no turn did any staff at Even Keel acknowledge the extent to which my experience made me uncomfortable. Once you check in the receptionist guides you to the bathroom where a locker, shoes, and a robe is provided. I had the wonderful opportunity to experience an indulgent facial here recently. Heather was my aesthetician and after discussing my skin and needs she suggested we start with the Be Brightened facial and it was delightful! I've had many facials but this was my first since moving to Baltimore and because I'd like to get back into the habit/regiment, I'm so glad my experience with Heather solidified Even Keel as my go-to going forward! She was very gentle and explained every step; the tingling of the peels let me know they were doing their job, the same with the soothing creams/serums. I felt so refreshed and my face was truly glowing when I left! The spa space is welcoming and comfortable, I was offered water or tea upon arrival and there's a nice little lounge to decompress and relax in prior to your treatment. The locker rooms are very clean and you're assigned a locker (with a key) and a robe and slippers. Treat your self and patronize this newish, local institution.
