This is my third or fourth visit to the spa at Four Seasons and it's always a 5-star experience. I usually go in the warmer months so I can get the pool pass but this time I decided to start the year off with a massage and made a last-minute appointment. As always, I was greeted with a smile. The staff there are always so pleasant. It kind of makes me wanna get a part-time job there. But I digress... once I checked in I was asked to sit in the waiting area I was given a hot eucalyptus rag and some tea to prep me for my massage. I got the 50-minute Deep Sea massage. My masseuse was Jose. I also added hot stones for a little razzle dazzle. This was my very first deep tissue massage. Jose asked if I wanted the pressure to be medium or firm. As a newbie, I went with medium and Jose proceeded to massage me down to my bone marrow! It was much needed, but I wasn't ready. We did a short consultation before the massage so he knew exactly what to look for, and after the massage he was able to expand on some of my issues and give me some suggestions for relief and preventative care. After the massage, I felt amazing and exhausted. It was almost like chiropractic/massage therapy. I was so depleted. I went straight down to Maximon and ordered some chips and guacamole, tacos, and dessert before I headed home. Thankfully, there was no traffic so I'm still enjoying the effects of the massage. Even though it can be pricey, the spa at Four Seasons will continue to be my go to for that luxe spa experience. And if you need some deep tissue action, definitely go see Jose.

Went to celebrate an anniversary with a couple's massage. It seemed the only way for us to get a massage together was to do their VIP room rental. Cutting to the chase: everything was 'okay' at a premium price. Nice layout and offering of 'prep' area: large locker room (though only one changing room on the women's side), showers, bathrooms. Enjoyed the sauna...they had several terraces that weren't unlocked which was a shame bc we went on a gorgeous day. The room was nice and we asked that they open the balcony terrace and so we sipped on the provided champagne for a few minutes before heading in and soaking in the tub (we only had the room for 30mins before our massage). The tub was SO HOT. We forced our way in, but it was more to reinforce what we had paid for the room than anything. The massage was okay for both of us. Without paying an add-on for the deep tissue, the soft/medium pressure massage was more of a body rub than anything. While I was hoping for more, it was definitely relaxing. At the end, we weren't allowed to use the rain shower. (Not sure if it's bc we're a couple?) And so we went back to our separate gender quarters... I think the facilities are old or haven't been well maintained. The robes were a little raggedy and the facilities showed signs of wear. For a one hour couples massage, tip and that room for 30 mins, I'll say it was the equivalent of an entire weekend of 4-star dining and I'm not sure the experience warranted that. (Know that they charge a fee for the room *and* the room gets a gratuity tip...) I saw several female friend groups there and perhaps that's a better group for the set up of this spa.

Beautiful Spa experience. The entrance to the Four Seasons is always a treat. The staff were so nice and welcoming. I came for a self care day and they treated me like royalty. From the champagne to the take home recommendations, I truly enjoyed myself

When you're a teacher who just finished school, you book yourself a day at the Four Seasons. And trust me, if you're going to get a massage in the Baltimore area, do yourself a favor and spend the extra $50 or so here. In addition to your massage, you get access to the "heat experience" (vitality pool (hot tub with jets), waterfall shower, sauna, steam room, and heated tile lounge chairs), as well as the relaxation room (comfy lounge chairs, outdoor patio, fruity tea and water, and an assortment of snacks (think: a few different trail mixes). Come 30 minutes early, hop in the hot tub, and get your mind right for your massage. Plus, the ambiance here compares to no other. From the moment you step out of your car, you're greeted by hotel staff and escorted to the spa, where the spa staff then give you the tour of the place. However, while you can expect greatness at the Four Seasons, I wouldn't give it a full 5 stars. There's a bit of room for improvement, but a $150 50-minute Swedish here is still pretty worth the $$$. Pros: *(Pro-tip:) Book early (like 10 AM) on a week day and you'll basically have the place to yourself. Ultimate relaxation achieved. *They accepted my Groupon even though I'm an idiot and bought one the day before it expired and my appointment wasn't until two months later. *Get the Four Seasons scented oil for your massage. Especially their seasonal summer one. Smells like honeysuckle and love. You won't regret it. Cons: *You have to spend at least $225 at the spa to access the Four Seasons pool... come on, aren't they already making enough? *eyeroll* *The steam room reminds me of a horror movie where the fog starts seeping from out of the ground right before you die. Maybe a bit more lighting would make it less creepy. *A glass of wine costs almost $20. And expect to wait awhile until you see a single soul come around to take your order. *The heat experience is separated by gender, which has its pros, but I wouldn't book a couples massage here expecting to see each other much except in the relaxation room and tiny dining area.

This place was absolutely incredible. My husband and i love spas so this felt like the perfect day activity after thanksgiving. When i initially made the reservation the receptionist was extremely nice and talked through the various packages and options. When we arrived we were offered water and then taken to our respective areas to change. The facilities are beautiful and really clean. First we got couple massages and i loved my masseuse. In the paperwork i filled out i wrote that my shoulders were my problem area and she made sure to work on it throughout the massage. It was a full body massage but she was particularly good on my feet as well. After our massage we spent another 1.5hrs using the steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs and relaxation room (which had snacks and comfy chairs) I then took a nice hot shower and used the vanity to do my hair and make up before we left. It was truly an incredible day and i told my husband we should make this a post thanksgiving tradition. I was truly impressed!

Five stars all the way .. this is my favorite spa. It's the whole package!! Beautiful, tranquil energy with an amazing team of professionals that always get it right!! I've been coming here for years and love this place , look and feel great when I'm done.. I also love the time the technician takes to help me find product after services .. no complaints at all .. budget friendly beautiful environment..

Well, it's gorgeous. & do try the wonderful top floor restaurant and bar, the Bygone. You'll always remember the views from their 300 degree view floor to ceiling windows and lovely decks. day and after dark. Great staff, Spa & Bygone! Even with only one paid spa service, you can stay all day + evening and enjoy the personal plunge pools, sauna, steam, heated chaises longues, rainbow show, & deck with gorgeous harbor views, It's not that much pricier than other spas, and you receive so many more benefits. Ask to see the private room for couples ~ you will want to book it. And, consider going on certain weekday "happy hours" for service discounts. Views from the top floor restaurant, Bygone:

Absolutely a 5-star experience. I was looking for the quintessential spa day experience, and I wanted something that was going to be every bit luxurious. This place really hit the mark. The amenities are absolutely amazing - a 'heat experience' room that is segregated by sex, so you can decide if you want to go in the nude or wear a swim suit at your discretion here. The heat experience room has a multi-way rain shower, a vitality pool which entails three lounge seats submerged in a hot tub environment, each seat has individual jet stream control, heated stone chairs (3 in the room), a steam room, and a sauna. The hallways connect so that you may also experience a small cafe area where you can order food and drinks, the "relaxation room" is sex neutral, and provides a nice arrangement of fruit and snacking mixes, in addition to hot teas and infused waters. They had a decent selection of reading magazines here as well. We did not opt for any of the food or drink orders, but the entire experience was calm, relaxing, and issue-free. My massage therapist was equally great, and everything from start to finish was absolutely what I was looking for. Check-in and check-out were seamless, they validate your valet parking too - so that you only end up paying $12 for the valet - they also call your car around when you're done so you don't have an additional wait time. Highly recommend !

Unsurprisingly, most of the negative reviews are from people trying to deal with their gift certificates or gift cards since they are not able to provide reasonable service to people unfamiliar with their procedures. Throughout the process, I had to chase the owner, Gary, repeatedly over text and phone in order to get any information. A list of things I wish I knew before attempting to use a gift certificate here: I was alone in the building, not just the room, with an unknown man. Zen and the City is a therapist-owned establishment that has appointment-only booking for services. In light of this description, I probably should have known that I would be alone with my massage therapist. Except the website contains none of that information, which I only learned about after the appointment, so I was blindsided. My massage therapist was a very nice man who did his best to make me feel welcome and taken care of (Thank you, Anthony. You were the only good part of this whole experience!), but it was hard to set aside how uncomfortable it was to be alone with a strange man without knowing before that no one else would be there. The gift certificates (physical) and gift cards (e-cards) are redeemed in different ways. The website doesn't make it clear (either in the description or during the purchase) that physical gift certificates are only redeemable for a specific service, and that the gift certificates and gift cards are considered two different products. When I got the certificate for Zen and the City, neither my father (who bought this as a gift) nor I knew there was a difference between the two until after I had my appointment and was told otherwise. If you redeem the service-specific gift certificate for the wrong service by mistake, Zen and the City will not inform you of the mistake when you book your appointment and will instead pocket the remaining money without further services or refund, even after their error is pointed out to them. I suspect they would have prevented me from redeeming the gift certificate for something that was MORE money than the one I used, but when I accidentally used it from something that cost LESS, I was only told afterwards when I couldn't fix my mistake, or receive a refund for the balance. The initial confirmation text message is meaningless. It doesn't accurately reflect that an appointment's successfully been made (because you get a text regardless), and it does not result in you being correctly signed up to receive text messages. Instead, they will contact you by email, no matter your indicated preference (which they don't know anyway because they never ask for your preference). If there is a problem with your email address, they will not use your phone number to follow up. There will be no further attempt to contact you. I'll be honest and admit that I made quite a few mistakes in attempting to deal with Zen and the City, and I accept the responsibility of those mistakes. However, I think it's important for future potential customers to know beforehand that this is the kind of business that is happy to take advantage of your confusion, your mistakes, or your unexpected illness (check out their sick policy). It's up to you whether you want to risk giving this place your money and time.
