We went at lunch time on a Friday and the place was totally dead which felt weird, but the service was great and food was made to order and delicious. Lots of flavor. The shrimp chowmein had a lot of cilantro and onions. Fair warning for anyone who doesn't like that. I feel like this place would be a great place to go with their live band some nights. I've never had Nepalese foods before, so this was a great introduction! I went with a good sized group and we were able to order an array of items. The momo were definitely the star of the show. We had all the different fillings and cook methods, and all were fantastic! Chili was my personal favorite. The dal bhat was also very good. The waiter was super nice and very helpful, giving us suggestions on what to try since it was everyone's first time. He was the only one working though, so the service was very slow. He said multiple people called out. It took quite a while for the food to come out, but once it did everything came flooding out. The only other thing was that it was much too dark inside. Once the sun went down you couldn't see much. Maybe that's the ambiance there were going got but it made it difficult to see anything. Outside of those small things, it was a great time! Read a review of Everest Restaurant and Bar and saw they served Nepali, Indian, and Bhutanese cuisines. I've never had Nepali food and looked forward to learning how different it was from Indian foods. My server Sushmita took my drink order, and I wanted to try a Gorkha Beer from Nepal. Sadly, they were out of Gorkha so I went with Taj Mahal beer from India...a very good lager. I wanted to try a variety of different items and informed Sushmita my spice level was mild, so I ordered the following: Chicken Momo JHOL. I'm still not sure if this is a soup or a dumpling stew. The Momo are pretty big, and there were eight of them in this dish. I would rank this "soup" as one of the best soups I've ever enjoyed and would order this again and make this my meal! The Lamb Thali is a platter made up of several different dishes which are supposed to create a balanced meal. I cannot remember what Sushmita called each little cup of food or sauce on the tray but the lamb was to be eaten with one, two, or many of the side sauces or garnishments. The lamb was slightly overcooked but wasn't tough and overall this was still a good dish and an experience in itself. I did figure out the small round ball is the dessert item called Gulab Jamun...OMG it was rich, sweet, and delicious. The place is not much to look at on the inside but it is clean, and while Sushmita and I may have experienced some communication issues, she took great care of me. 4.5 I've had Nepalese food twice in my life. The first time was in SF. The second time was in Antioch. How about that for 'a place with no food options'? Crazy, right? In any event, driving down to Antioch and around the surrounding area, I was getting an up-close-and-personal view of the the suburb that continues to grow and change. It was a Friday night in mid-summer and I wanted something 'different' to start off my weekend. Excited to see Nepalese food down the road (rather than across the country), I called in, made my order and gots ta steppin'. Located in a strip mall, Everest lives up to the 'Bar' part of its name. I walked in to find a, decidedly, mixed-use space with as many kids running around as adults imbibing. With so much going on, it took a quick second to find my order by once the front of the house got it together with the kitchen, I was a-okay and on my way. Since this wasn't my first time at the rodeo, I knew what to order to make sure I had stumbled upon a legitimate spot: pork momo and chicken biryani. Spoiler: legit, for sure. The momo order came with ELEVEN pieces.* That, alone, could have made me a fan. The jhol sauce that came with (enough for 11 pieces) could have made me a fan (peanut base with chili and garlic notes). But the momos themselves assured that I was a fan. Each minced dumpling had a generous bite from the casing/dough and an explosive blend of meat and spices to make you take notice. Added to the sauce and you'll be hard pressed to stop eating. The biryani, too, was an extremely generous serving a food. The meat with spiced with cardamom and coriander (to name a couple of notes) and paired with fragrant jasmine rice. The cucumber sauce on the side cooled down the heat from the chili peppers (also on the side). Rather than eat into oblivion, I split the momo and biryani up and enjoyed two generously-portioned meals.** The mid-state has any number of food surprises waiting to please your tastebuds. Travel. I had lunch at Everest with a friend, and we both really enjoyed our meal! Everest serves a mix of Nepali, Indian, and Bhutanese dishes, and the menu is pretty large - with something for everyone but the pickiest eaters, I'd imagine! During COVID (at least as of April 2021), Everest is doing dine in, takeout, and delivery. They do not have any outside seating. We ate in (which I haven't done much of during COVID), but when we arrived around 12 on a Tuesday, we were the only party seated (one family did arrive during our meal), so it felt fine to me. Servers wore masks, as we did we. They also had a hand sanitizer stand near the entrance. I ordered the chicken momos jhol style. Momos are Nepali dumplings (which I have grown to love over the past couple of years since finding more Nepali restaurants). You can usually get chicken, pork, beef, or veggie (and sometimes even lamb or other options). Everest offers chicken, pork, or veg momos. Then you choose the style you prefer: steamed, fried, jhol, or chili. Steamed and fried are what you would expect. Jhol momo refers to momos served in a broth of hot chutney/broth/sauce. Chili refers to momo stir fried with chilies. The jhol style chicken momos were excellent! I loved the chutney/broth - Everest's version was very peanut-y, so it tasted like dumplings in a peanut curry soup, which was wonderful. My friend had steamed vegetable momos, which she liked as well. For my main, I got the vegetable thukpa. Thukpa is a noodle soup, and I really enjoyed this as well. The broth was flavorful, the noodles great, and there were so many veggies in my bowl (mushrooms, baby bok choy, broccoli, etc.). It was served with a little chili sauce on the side for some heat if I wanted (I did) and a wedge of lime for some acid (always appreciated in a soup/broth in my mind!). My friend's main was their chicken biryani, which she - you guessed it! - enjoyed as well. The service was very good. The menu has a lot of explanation about what dishes are in case you aren't very familiar with the cuisines they serve, which is great. All in all, it was a great meal, and I would love to go back to try some of the Bhutanese dishes on the menu (I've never had Bhutanese food before)! Check it out! read more

This place is an awesome find! I've never had Nepalese food before. The restaurant seems small from the outside but inside I was so surprised by how spacious it is. There's a small stage for live music. The diners were placed apart. The staff was super friendly and helpful in explaining the dishes. They are also very accommodating on the spice level. We ordered veggie momo which was huge cabbage dumplings it has a different flavor from other dumplings I've had. It's big dumplings and big fillings. The sauce was peanut-based and it was delicious. I'm going to try the corn next time. We also ordered the chicken biryani it was perfectly spicy. The chicken was flavorful and it seems like it was marinated it was delicious. My GF ordered the aloo curry which was bland I thought it was my taste but she didn't really taste any other flavor. I come with a small cucumbers tomatoes salad. The star for me was the wings nice crispy delicious wings! The sauce was an awesome compliment for these wings. My only complaint is it was a little too greasy for me I think they started cooking the wings before the oil got hot. Overall I'm pleased with our food and services. This was a really neat experience. Soccer was playing, I was the only one dining there for lunch, and they came out to enjoy it with me. This is one of the reasons why I love small local businesses and I hope they do well for their dinner hours. The prices are a couple dollars more than their current Yelp menu listing, but the portions are generous. Sorry I didn't take menu photos, too hungry. Chicken Momo Chili - This came out still crackling which I thought was awesome. Not so awesome when it stopped crackling and I tried to eat one and the temperature of it made my eyes water. Haha, so the sweet spot seemed to be about 12 minutes after it came out to me, then it was still hot but cool enough to eat. It was seasoned well, medium spice, mixed with veggies, and had a nice crispiness to it. Pork Momo Jhol - This was a bit spicier than the Chili style but I still wouldn't call it hot. These dumplings came in a flavorful soup/broth and I used it to dip some of my Garlic Naan in as well. My favorite? That's a hard choice but I'm going to say the Chili style. There were about 10 of each and I have to say about 20 was quite a bit for one person to eat. It's hard to order just one thing but I'd recommend something small like the Garlic Naan if you're going to get a momo dish as well. Or take some away for later or bring a dining companion! The Mango Lassi had a bit more of a mango flavor to it than the one I had at my last Nepalese Restaurant in Colorado, still delicious enough for me to want 2, just mentioning because it was a difference. Parking is plentiful, you can park by the side door (which they're using as their main entrance now) or you can park in the huge shared parking out front. You should come here! read more

I needed some flavor variety and Nepalese cravings hit, especially after I looked at other Yelpers' photos of the food from Everest. We got steamed veg momo, jhol veg momo, a vegetable thali, vegetable thukpa, and shrimp chowmein. This was for a party of three, and it took up the whole table. Our plan was to make a lunch the next day out of leftovers. We were stuffed both days, exactly as our waiter cautioned us. The momo are perhaps the best in town. They are stuffed full of fresh flavors and evenly steamed. The jhol is a delicious and lightly spicy flavor explosion. Five stars. The veg thali was full of delicious flavors. Four stars. The chowmein hit the spot, though the shrimp were a little overcooked. Four stars. The service was unambiguously five stars. Our waiter was attentive to our needs, including a little one, from menu recommendations to making sure the little one had plenty to eat and drink, to giving us updates as our various dishes neared I will be back for more soon! read more

I wanted to eat dinner with a friend but she had serious time constraints and therefore we had to pick a place close to where she lived. She asked if I've ever had Himalayan food before and I said no. Honestly it never crossed my mind that such an ethnic cuisine existed. I later realized it was Nepalese/Himalayan, which I chuckled to myself because the last time I heard of Nepal was when Matt Dillon had Nepalese coins to trick Cameron Diaz' character in There's Something About Mary. But I digress.... This place is a straight up hole-in-the-wall. It was spacious but was in a bit of disarray. Maybe because it was the aftermath of COVID 2020, but some tables and chairs were up against the wall, dining supplies/to-go items were stacked up on each other, etc. Our waitress didn't speak English very well so she had to get someone else to talk to us when we were asking for what kind of drinks (wine) they had. Besides that hiccup, she was nice and did her best. I was a bit intimidated by the menu. I realized after looking through it a few times that this was very similar to Indian food, which I do like. After all, a part of Nepal does border India, so I can see the influences/shared flavors of each cuisine. A lot of it was still foreign to me but I think we did a good job ordering an assortment of foods. For an appetizer, we ordered the samosa chaat and fried chicken wings/legs. For the entrée, my friend ordered the pork momo jhol and I ordered the pork and saag curry. The samosa chaat was pretty good. I've never had it before but the outside was crispy and the inside had what appeared to a warm, delicious potato filling in it. It was very soft and topped with a variety of things (most of what I didn't know what it was) but nevertheless, it was good and I'd definitely order some more. Surprisingly the fried chicken wings/legs were VERY good. I don't know what kind of breading was on there, but it was light and reminded me of panko breadcrumbs. The chicken was really flavorful and juicy. I liked these a lot and I'll never say no to fried wings/legs. Our entrees came out but full disclaimer, I didn't like mine. I love a curry. Any kind of curry. Indian, Thai, Japanese; I love curries. But mine was a bit underwhelming. It looked good, but the flavor was straight up bland. The best part of it was the pork chunks and the rice. So I picked those out and then ate my friend's pork momo (dumplings) jhol style. It was on FIRE and I I should have ordered what she did. They were SOOOOO GOOD. I love dumplings and the filling had this delicious, savory, meaty pork filling. They were stacked in a bowl with jhol (chutney) which is almost like a broth. I was very tempted to eat her entire entrée but I didn't because that was going to be her leftovers for another day. My first experience with Nepalese food will definitely not be my last. I'll probably even suggest we go here again soon. However next time around, I'll just order either the chicken wing/leg appetizers or samosa chaat. But for an entrée, I'll probably order 2 servings of the pork momo jhol style. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. read more

I'm in town visiting a friend and we were trying to decide what all we were going to do. I had the thought: gee can we get some momos? I really love them and there are no places currently in my city that make them. We went a little crazy because we ordered hungry but man was it good. Covid didn't affect us here, it was pretty slow (just how I like it these days). We started off with some veggie samosa, three plates of momo's Chile veggie, pork johla and steamed chicken. We also had an order of puri (which is amazing). I followed everything up with a mango lasi. The chicken momos were a little different to me. They had some seasoning that stood out to me, they weren't bad but different. Not my favorite but we gobbled them up anyways. The pork johla was delicious, usually my favorite I wasn't too surprised. Then they brought out the veggie ones Chile style. Never thought I would pick veggie over pork (I like meat) but dang these were good. Definitely give these a try. 11/10 would do again. Was looking for an Indian restaurant in Antioch. Came across this Nepalese restaurant which borrows from Indian, chinese and other cuisines. The space was filled with music, it was large and clean. Table were spaced out and waiter was friendly. The food was delicious. We ordered tender morsels of sheep curry. Also a thali (a round dish with small dishes). This had vegetables, chicken curry, rice, soup, tomato salad, lentils and a dessert. We ordered the samosa appetizer. The entire meal was around $40 including drinks. They were both fantastically delicious. However I also ordered veggie samosas which were not great at all and the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars. A friend and I went to Everest on a recommendation. Word of mouth is the best way to discover hidden gems. We asked our waiter/owner to walk us through the menu. He was more than happy to help us choose what to order. The chef adjusted the spice accordingly and we were both blown away by how delicious everything was. We got the potato appetizer (I can't remember the name and I didn't take a picture of the menu because I didn't realize there wasn't one already on yelp- sorry!). The spice level was nice and the potatoes were well cooked. I loved the coriander seeds. Getting a potato with that bright flavor made each bite so satisfying. Then we got the chili momo. Easily my favorite thing we ordered. The dish was dumplings with vegetables in a spicy chili sauce presented in a sizzling plate. The flavor and presentation were equally impressive. The third and final item we ordered was a Authentic Bhutan dish with lots of butter and served with rice. I sauce with delicious and rich. It wasn't creamy, more thin than a gravy. It was good, but my third favorite of what we ordered. There were no leftovers, hahaha! Our waiter was wonderfully kind and patient with us. I really appreciated his opinion and help with the menu. Keep in mind that this is a hole in the wall in a strip mall. The interior isn't the nicest, but I wasn't there to look at the walls. The service and food are worth the trip. I will be returning over and over again. Hopefully I'll become a regular and when they see me coming, the chef will start my order of chili momo before I even take my seat. read more
