I went to Rajdhani tonight for dinner with four other people, and we were all REALLY impressed by the food. Rajdhani is Nepali food, which none of us had ever tried - but we all love Indian food and Nepali food had some similar flavors and dishes. We started with two orders of momo (Nepali dumplings). We had a vegetarian party in our party, so we got one order of the vegetable momo and one order of the chicken momo. To be honest, I was more excited about the chicken momo, but the vegetable momo BLEW ME AWAY. The chicken was okay (a little dry and not as flavorful as the vegetable), but the vegetable was amazing. (The chicken was still worth ordering, but it needed a bit of the sauce to make it more delicious, and the vegetable momo didn't need anything at all.) Then we shared a bunch of dishes family style: chicken curry, aalu govi (potato, cauliflower, and spices - aloo gobi in Indian cuisine), a vegetarian thali (a dish of many small dishes, which included a daal, eggplant, okra, and other veg dishes), chicken curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, and paneer chili. Everything was good, but my favorites were the Chicken Tikka Masala, the paneer chili, and the okra from the veg thali. Rajdhani is a grocery store and cafe. The cafe is to the back of the grocery store. The service was good, and our server answered all the questions we had about the menu. We finished ALL of our plates. Every little bite of food was eaten. We didn't leave hungry, that's for sure! Rajdhani isn't a fancy place. But as an introduction to Nepali food? It's a winner. I definitely plan on going back and trying more Nepali food if the opportunity arrives! If you like to explore the international cuisine available in Nashville's Nolensville corridor, add Rajdhani to your list! I'll start with the ending: my wife and I high-fived after dinner. It was that delicious, and for a great price. Rajdhani is tucked into the back corner of this strip mall. Walk in and you'll find a relatively small market and the restaurant inside on the left, past the cash registers. There are only a few tables and a small staff. Everything is made to order, so be prepared to a little wait - take turns shopping in the market. We wanted to try a cross-section of the foods, so we got a veg thali and a veg sampler, plus masala tea to wash it down. If it's your first visit, whatever you order, get some momos. These are a tasty example of the Chinese and Indian influences on Nepali cuisine. Also on our sampler was chowmein and a samosa. They were all delightful. The veg thali was full of almost familiar dishes (see pics), but don't be fooled - they come with a Nepali twist on the palate of spices. I can't describe in words the amazing mix of flavors, so you'll just have to try it yourself. In addition to the tray of dishes, the thali comes with a side of chutney, vegetables, yogurt, a gulab jamun, two types of rice, and a couple of types of bread to mix with the foods. The thali and sampler platter were a lot of food for two people, yet we stretched our limits. Then we washed it down with the masala tea, marveled at the burst of flavors, paid our bill, thanked our waitress and high-fived. Rajdhani is now in our rotation. read more

Excellent Nepalese cuisine in the back of an unassuming Nepali market behind Lowe's at the corner of Nolensville Road and OHB. I had the Butter Paneer Masala, Vegetable Momo, and Masala Tea. My friend had the Chili Chicken. The paneer is diced finer than it is in most dishes served in the US and pan fried before it was put into the butter sauce. Smooth, mild, creamy, and absolutely delicious. The Chili Chicken is something akin to a stir fry dish that you might find at a Chinese bistro. If you bring a friend that isn't all that into trying new things, this would be a good place to start. I would order it myself after trying it. The Momo was stuffed mostly with cabbage and had a great texture. I didn't really check out the stock of the market, but it looked like a great supply of ingredients and food from the region. If you've tried Indian food and want to venture out a little into other cuisines of the region while in Nashville, this is a great place to try. read more

Hidden in the depths of a local Nepali grocery was a tiny cafe. It may have been small is size, but the tastes of the food there were powerful. Rajdhani was the name of the place where my wife and I took a friend for lunch. We had to carefully find our way down the narrow grocery aisles to find the restaurant, but was well worth the effort. For a starter,we tried the Onion Bhaji- crispy, crunchy fried onion strands. Really good, and when dipped in the spicy Nepali sauce, even better. Thence came a medley of momos- both mutton and chicken. The chicken seemed to be a bit dy, but when dipped in that spicy sauce, was just fine. The mutton momos-so good!! They were perfectly cooked and embraced in a sensuous steamed wrap.Those mutton momos were the stars of my meal. For lunch, I picked the Mutton chilli. The meat was cooked until firm, but not overcooked, and lay in a pool of tomatoes, bell peppers and Nepali spices. It came with a friend- a helping of moist, fluffy rice.My wife chose the Mutton Curry. I only had a taste of her dish, but the mutton was nicely cooked. Winner!! Unfortunately, there were no desserts on the menu, so we had to go next door to get our baklavas. Now to rate Rajdhani Grocery & Cafe. It was difficult finding our table and te seats were cramped,but the overall experience was unforgettable. The onion Bhaji was a wonderful way to and the Mutton Momos were unbelievably good. Rajdhani is a hidden gem in South Nashville. It's located in the strip mall behind Lowe's at the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Nolensville Road. The front of the shop is a Nepalese grocery; the cafe is located in the rear. Service is quick and friendly. The chicken momos were plump, tender and flavorful, served with a peanut based dipping sauce and a cup of pleasantly sour vegetable soup. Where has this dumpling been all of my life?? The non-vegetarian thali was a feast; chicken curry (available with goat if you prefer) that was completely delectable (and prepared with a few different spices than the local Indian buffet!) and about a half dozen side dishes, with two kinds of rice, papadum and a delicious fried bread for dipping. The bill for two (for more food than we could eat) didn't break $30. Give it a try; you won't be disappointed! read more

Whenever we make it out to this part of Nolensville pike/ Antioch, we try to stop by here. So this is a pending review for the place. Surprisingly, some of their cuisine is similar to bengali cuisine. But the latter definitely does not have a version of momos. So momos are akin to chinese dumpling, but the flavors are nuanced and come with their own sauce. We had their thali a while back and lately returned to have their chai. Highly recommend the thali with everything. It is plenty of food for two people. The mutton is soft, delightful and really tasty. The meal is served on a golden thali (round serving plate) which presentation wise is pretty regal. The veggies, dal (lentil soup), and rice are beautiful. Surprisingly similar to what our home cooked foods are like. The one thing I noticed, as the restaurant is within a grocery store, quite a few of the items are a decent advertisement of the products they sell. I am not altogether familiar with Nepali cuisine, but for example, the tomato soup is actually a well boiled and flavored knorr packet soup, which is available in their store. And, they sell the okra, eggplant, lentils etc. The point I am trying to make is, if you love the cuisine, I am sure they would be willing to inform you on the grocery products to recreate the food. This time we had lunch elsewhere and returned just for chai, which they graciously served. I did find the flavor a little inconsistent, more milk forward this time and less thick than in the past, but nonetheless a good chai! I can't complain because I barely ever get my chai at home to be exactly the same- must be a thing. Anyway, if you are interested in trying Nepali cuisine, Rajdhani is a great place to start. Their regular customers are usually Nepali, so you know the Nepali cherish it. Just a heads up: please don't confuse it for Indian cuisine, because it is very very different from that, although they do have a limited few items on the menu that are Indian. So I applaud them for actually offering authentic dishes on the menu. read more

We absolutely enjoyed our meal at Rajdhani Groceries & Cafe. Yes, it is a hole in a wall place in the back of a grocery store but, yes, that is the charm of it. The shop owner and his family run this place and they are such good hosts, such kind and courteous. We tried everything from their momo to fried noodles to their delicious mutton thali and everything was absolutely delicious. The mutton thali, omg, that is the biggest thali, in terms of all that we get, have I ever seen. Each item on it is so very tasty. Rajdhani was in the far back corner of massive parking lot past Lowe's. One wouldn't ever know it's not only a market, but a restaurant unless they walked in and walked all the way to the back left. I went with three friends for lunch. We all ordered the goat Thali. My only complain is it took about 45 minutes to get the food. We were the only people there and I heard them constantly cooking in the kitchen which means most of the food was made on demand. They had us pull up a second table since so much food was going to come out. I have never had Nepali food. It was basically Indian food. The goat was amazing. It came with a ton of rice and like 5 side dishes. It also came with an assortment of breads. Everything was excellent. A bit much for a working lunch, but it would be an excellent dinner. read more

First time trying Nepali food. This little cafe is inside a grocery store. The grocery store is located inside a strip mall way in the back. Once I walked into the place there is no signs leading to the restaurant. I asked the person behind the cash register. There isn't much space for the sitting area, so just be aware. The aroma coming from this tiny kitchen smelled delicious. We ordered our food, it took some time to come out. That was fine with me. Everything we ordered was incredible and filled with flavor. The only item I didn't like was the vegetable thali. I'm sorry to say it was not flavorful at all. The way it was cooked wasn't pleasant. The amount of food inside barely filled each container it was served in. It was literally 2-3 spoon of each curry. The potato on one dish was very chewy and tasted odd. Most of the vegetable dish was similar to each other. One was potato and peas, potato and mushroom, tiny amount of okra, eggplant, some steam greens. These had no flavor just oil and salt. The mung bean dhal was decent. Also another customer had mention the vegetable thali wasn't as good as the meat thali. However besides this, everything else we ordered was incredible. My favorites were the vegetable momo, veggie manchurian and the chowmein. I also noticed they had a lot of Indian inspired dishes on the menu. I'm curious if it's cooked differently from Indian cuisine. This place is definitely worth trying out. I will be back for the momos. read more

This place is so very, very good! My husband had momo when he was at a convention (and generously tortured me with descriptions of how good they were), so when I found out about Rajdhani I had to try it! I was not disappointed. Husband had the special combo, I had a non-veg thali. Oh good lord it was good! I had mutton curry, which was rich and faintly sweet, with a subtle heat. I do wish they'd de-bone the meat completely, but it was still tender and delicious. There was also a stir fried eggplant, and okra, and some slightly crisp, slightly bitter greens I couldn't identify but loved. A potato and cauliflower dish that wasn't aloo ghobi but something like it. Pappadum, and a puffed bread that enabled me to mop up the curry sauce. Oh and the yogurt? Yeah, not the nasty, starchy, might-as-well-call-it-pudding-and-be-done-with-it mess that is commercial American yogurt. Nice and sour. Husband's special combo: chicken momo, chicken stir fried noodles, a huge potato and pea samosa, and soup. I tried it all and just WOW. The dumplings were tender and beautifully made, they did not fall apart when cut. Dipping sauce - not sure what it was but it was good. The noodles were amazing, well seasoned with carrot and onion and chunks of tandoori chicken (sorry I can't be more specific about the flavor; I'm new to Nepali food so I can only say it was delicious). The the soup I think might have been tomato based, a thin broth that was both delicate and sour. After we shamelessly stuffed ourselves, we hit the market and came away with curry powder, chow mein masala, masala potato chips and yogurt. I already regret not getting the momo masala; I have plans to make momo meatballs with it, so we're going back next weekend. Oh, and did I mention that everyone was super nice and patient with my ignorance of Nepali food, and willingly explained it to me? Yeah that too. Please, folks, please go to Rajdhani Groceries! This place is a gem...no frills, just truly unique flavors, delicious food and very nice people. I get the impression that Nepali cuisine is similar to a mix of Indian and Asian. I had the Chili Paneer and was surprised to find that it was essentially paneer cubes with red and green bell peppers in a thick, sticky red sauce that tasted like what you would get on sweet and sour chicken. The paneer was a bit overcooked and not soft like you find at Indian restaurants, instead it was more like a tofu that had been cooked to a meaty texture. This was served with rice and topped with cilantro. Overall an interesting combo of flavors, just not what I expected with "chili" in the title. It wasn't spicy at all and was so sweet it was almost candy-like. My friends had the Momos, the Vegetarian Thali and a noodle dish and they loved them all. The Thali comes with this very interesting curried "pickle" and a spongy white dessert type sweet that is reminiscent of Gulab Jamun (which I like to think of as Indian donuts ). The okra in the Thali was heavenly...sliced very thin and roasted with a spice that, to me, made it taste a little like the way marijuana smells. As I said before, VERY interesting flavors. Worth it! I'd spend all my money on their food. I went with my friend who is a regular. And I allowed her to choose the food and honestly don't know what all we ordered. The red onions is so good and kinda reminds you of onion rings, they were very flavorful. For the noodle and (I wanna day dim sum - I doubt that's what their called though) dish, I had chicken and my friend had the pork version. She told me that the pork dish has more flavor and the dumplings are soupy, but not the chicken. The chicken one is more dry but still good. read more

If you're wanting to try a new cuisine, definitely hit up this Nepalese restaurant. It sits off of Nolensville Pike in a strip-mall building so it's easy to miss as it is also a grocery store. Tucked in the back is the cafe. This was a spur-of-the-moment dinner idea and I am so glad I tried this restaurant. Never having tried Nepali food before, I noticed they offered a type of sample-platter called the "Nepali Thali Set". I highly recommend this option if you're wanting to get a taste of multiple of their food options! Everything in the set had SO much flavor and was definitely more than enough food for two people, with leftovers to spare. At $14.99 for the non-veg set (compared to $13.99 for the veg set), it's not only tasty but affordable, too! My only downside if I have one is that others were sat around us and received their meals quickly while still waiting on our food...so the service was slightly slower than expected. Other than that, I recommend this place to anyone looking to branch out and try the only Nepali food in Nashville. read more

Wonderful hole in the wall experience! Very small and cozy if not spartan cafe in the back of a small grocery. Super friendly and attentive staff. We had chicken and veggie momo and the mutton curry Thani sampler. Plenty of food for 2 hungry people. The dumplings were excellent and appeared 100% homemade. The mutton curry was excellent along with all the little veggie side dishes. Just so much fun sampling all the flavors. On the negative side, the veggies were rather greasy and arguably bland compared to typical Indian joints. Also they were mostly lukewarm, not as fresh as I'd like. We will definitely be back. Delicious!! GO HERE!! You must try this Nepalese food. It is better than Indian food. The cafe is run by a lovely friendly family and all the food is home made. It is very clean. The location is on the Lowes shopping center on nolensville and old hickory. The cafe is in the back of the store. The atmosphere is stark but you will love this hole in the wall. We had the momi dumplings which came with a cup of tasty soup and curry sauce. We also had thali mutton stew which came with two kinds of rice and many little bowls of things to taste. YUM! This was our first time eating Nepalese, and the Thali was a great sampling of different stuff to try. It also came with bread and a dessert. We sampled some of their fare for lunch with the owner assuring us that in a couple of days, a new much expanded menu would replace the current one. If if is as good as the one currently picture, it will be outstanding indeed! We had tried Nepalese food several times in the heart of Jackson Heights, New York City's Nepal community hub. Just sampling the momo and thali plates showed this to be similarly authentic. The succulent chicken momo--half crescents as opposed to the Tibetan version served 12 to an order--were delectable with a dipping sauce and side soup. The non-vegetarian thali came with a choice of goat or chicken. We both chose goat. Appropriately, it was not all lean which meant a variety of textures. All these are also available in vegetarian version.Accompanying it on the platter were green vegetables, dal (brown lentils), South Asian pickles, two scopes of basmati rice (one with peas and the other plain), a small bowl of a yellow sauce, and a side platter consisting of pappadums, sliced onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers . As we were filling up on these, a plate of two piping hot puri, still pillowy and round right from the oil. When these were finished were were offered more. We look forward to sampling the full menu when it is available. We wish them great success because this restaurant is a fine addition to Nashville's ethnic scene. And we worry that once it is discovered, its five tables will be filled, especially given its location in the same Mall as Fogatas, Midori Japanese/Korean, Bakara Market (which now has a food counter), and SIchuan Hot Pot. So good! I was fortunate enough to meet one of the owners, and I told him my heartbreaking story of having lived in Nepal 10 years ago and not being able to get my hands on momo since! It's been a hard decade. Thanks to Google, I found this place and it did not disappoint. It can be intimidating to order food from a cafe in a grocer of a culture you aren't completely familiar with, but they are so so so nice. This is a little dinning place inside of the grocery store. Don't come in with a very hungry empty stomach, because it take them a bit of time to prepare the food. We ordered momos, both steam and fried, they were delicious. I noticed they have two different kind of momos, when we did take out one time, the momo was more like Chinese bun with fillings, it wasn't that tasty. However, when we dine in, the momo is kinda like dumpling, very tasty. We also ordered curry lamp set, it tasted great with so many small dishes. The set is delicious and it is big enough for two people to share. The place is small with five small tables only, so I would not recommend for a large group. Overall, food is great, service is good, probably it needs to speed up the cooking time to minimize long waiting. read more

I went with a friend, and we ordered the vegetable momo (dumplings), vegetable thali (a large selection of vegetable dishes served with rice, crispy pappadam bread, AND dessert), and chhola batura (fried bread that managed to be both soft and crispy, served with a chickpea curry). It was a ridiculous amount of food, but we couldn't stop eating. We also had the masala tea, which was so good that I purchased some in the market to make at home. I have no doubt that I will be returning to sample more dishes from the extensive menu. It is a wonderful and worthy addition to the international restaurants that grace Nolensville Road! read more
