Wow, nice little restaurant in a strip mall with a pleasant atmosphere. It had good reviews, so a friend and I decided to check it out. There were only three tables occupied at 545 pm. We were immediately greeted and chose a place to sit. It smelled great. I just ordered water. I ordered the curry chicken 65 and basmati rice with garlic naan bread. They dropped off a small bowl of lentil soup that was delicious and full of flavor. The chicken curry arrived with a deep reddish sticky sauce clinging to each piece of chicken. It smelled great! Wow, the flavor was sweet, hot and nutty. I ordered the mild plus heat, and next time will order the medium. I mixed it with the rice as I ate, and the flavors were bold but not overpowering. The naan bread had just the right amount of garlic to let you know that it was there but did not dominate the bread. I had and enjoyed leftovers later that evening and will definitely be back. The wait staff were very nice, took the time to describe the dishes, and were spot on in their service. This is for the Cotati location: Himalayan buffets are almost as rare as my 5 star reviews, not to mention a $14.99 lunch buffet price in 2026. You heard that right: under $15 for a 5 star all you can eat meal. Before I talk about the food, lets talk about drink refills: I love whenever a place leaves me with my own water refill container. I drink pretty quickly, and being made to ask for refill after refill, let alone wait, is such a pain. The water glass is pretty small, but free is free. Plus the water is filtered. The (yellow) dal is SO on point here. Probably the best I've ever had at a restaurant. It had a slight smokey flavor, with what might have been the very slight hint of garlic. I poured it over the brown rice. Everything except for three dishes is totally vegan. Huge plus for healthy and super yummy. I admit to being surprised by not being wow'ed by the butter chicken, because Himalayan style butter chicken is my absolute favorite, being just a tad on the sweet side but still generous on the cream . This wasn't gross by any means, it just wasn't the wow factor I was thinking I would get. That still being the case, this place still deserves a solid 5 stars: The waitperson was super polite and helpful. They even went and made naan fresh for me even though I had arrived an hour before the buffet was ending. They even told me if I showed my student canva, I could get the student discount. I didn't have my student stuff with me sadly, but that's on me. Bonus points to them for flexing to accommodate me ! While we were camping nearby, we decided to get some momos to enjoy at the campsite. We ordered over the phone for takeout, and the whole process was easy. They took our order quickly, and everything was ready when we arrived for pickup. The momos were delicious! We all enjoyed them a lot. We usually get take out and order their apricot chicken and the tikka masala with basil garlic naan and it is delicious! Also, free delivery if you order online, no need to dash! This is an unassuming place, that gave us the best Indian meal we've had in a long time. The place was nearly empty when we walked in. We were greeted warmly, and offered complimentary small bowls of vegan lentil soup shortly after sitting. We ordered samosas, which were just the right balance of crispiness with fresh tasting innards. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio for only $8, and for entrees we had shahi paneer and vegetable korma, which we both loved. The spice level was low for The Wife, who has had trouble with that recently. My husband is Indian, so I've had a lot of good Indian food, and I would say that Everest is just average. Their mango lassi was delicious, perfect! We ordered the mixed platter with samosa, veggie pakora, and chicken tikka. Chicken tikka was dry and needed more flavor, samosa could also use more flavor, and veggie pakora was just okay. We also ordered chicken tikka masala, and the color looked lighter and more orange. It was super creamy, but still lacked the spices and tomato taste like I'm used to. In my opinion, Everest is lacking in flavor and spices. Food was decent, but I expected more in flavor! read more

The extensive menu contains cuisine from Nepal, Tibet, and India. While waiting for the main course, I enjoyed the small but filling cup of complimentary yellow lentil soup with shredded orange carrot--what a beautiful color combination. A nice first course. The walls are decorated with prints of Himalayan scenes. The head chef was a Sherpa for Everest summiteers (!) and his cousin, Kami Rita Sherpa, holds the record for Everest summits! That's quite amazing for an unassuming restaurant tucked in an outdoor shopping center in Petaluma. The mango lassi was so delectable, I finished it as my 2nd course. I chose Chicken 65-a "must try!" on their menu; delicious. It's marinated and boneless chicken, spices, ginger, garlic, lemon, fresh curry leaves, mustard seeds, and yogurt. My companion selected the Apricot Chicken in coconut curry sauce. Note that the chicken is very well cooked--perhaps pan-seared ? before the scrumptious apricot coconut curry sauce with a few dried apricots is generously dolloped over these chunks of chicken. I selected the garlic basil naan for a very slight up-charge to dip into the apricot coconut curry sauce. I ordered mild medium; the spice was flavorful and well-balanced but not hot. Allu banta was very tasty and on the sweeter side but I like sweet curries. The chicken 65 is labeled as their must try, but to me it was just okay. I grew up in Petaluma and only recently visited this place. Waiting so long was a huge mistake, this place is absolutely delicious! I walked in with my siblings on a Friday afternoon during lunch hour. There was only one other family sitting in the restaurant. We were quickly greeted by our waitress who was also super helpful. We started with an appetizer plate which came with chicken, pakoras, and a samosa! The chicken was a bit dry but the pakoras and samosa were amazing! The sauces that came with them were incredibly flavorful and really elevated the appetizer. We got the lunch specials. I opted for a potato/cauliflower dish and my siblings got chicken dishes (I believe tikka masala and curry). All of our plates came with chana masala and a yellow lentil dish, salad, rice, and naan. The lentil soup was one of the best things I've had. My sister doesn't even like lentils and she devoured them as well. The channa masala was my second favorite. This is my go to dish and Indian restaurants and it was super flavorful. The cauliflower dish was my least favorite. It was too sweet for my liking and I don't know if I would get it again. My siblings both loved how juicy and flavorful their chicken was. The naan was also fluffy, buttery, and delicious. I absolutely loved this place and will definitely be back!! read more

The C65 tastes similar to a Sweet and Sour Chicken, but much better with complex flavors and half the sugar. The naan is huge, big enough to sop up any sauces and still have plenty left over. If you are expecting Indian food as many reviewers had, it's not. It is similar but not the same. Everest has their own taste. Over the years, everything we have had is delicious. I resisted going to this place because I am of Indian origin and have spent 25 years in San Jose and I have had the best Indian food in the Bay Area. When I saw that this is an Indian, Nepalese, Tibetan food in my mind I was " Jack of all master of none". It was also undergoing renovation for a while and so I never had opportunity to go in. This week our group wanted to have Indian food and only Indian food in town in Petaluma is this place. I was genuinely surprised. While the spice level on all the dishes could be couple of notches higher, the food was tasty. We had a round of thalis with different dishes but I had the non-veg chicken tikka masala Thali which came with dal, Naan, some rice, salad, and all of them were exceptionally tasty. Wonderful experience. We were just driving north on the 101 and needed dinner. Finding Everest on Google maps, we drove in (not too far off the freeway). We've not had more than a couple experiences with Nepalese food and our last experience was in a notably tacky facility, but since their food was good, we thought we'd give this restaurant a shot. Not particularly striking on the outside, inside was delightfully inviting, well decorated, and clean! We were just after dinner on the road, but it's the kind of place we'd go for a nice dinner out, celebrating a birthday or the like. Food was absolutely wonderful. Easily the worst Indian food I've ever had, and one of the worst meals in general. See my reviews and note that we eat a LOT of Indian food. First, I humbly apologize as this is a small family owned business, but I don't feel that justifies how bad this meal was. TIKKA PANEER HEAVILY DYED...Such a fake and off putting orange color. There were only 7 small pieces of paneer! It was FLAVORLESS. It was INEDIBLE to me, but hubby said he wasn't that hungry and would eat the paneer, so we didn't say anything. KORMA CHICKEN Same thing. Heavily watered down and dyed, but not to the same extreme, so I had this. Also, there was plenty of chicken in this dish, but the gravy just tasted like...nothing. Weird. WHAT HAPPENED?! Were they just having an off day? Well, we asked for non-spicy, as we always do. The look and taste suggests that they HEAVILY watered down their regular dishes then dyed them it to look similar to the actual dish. So, I suspect that normal versions are better and would explain our bad experience on a normally 4 star place. COST: There were 7 small pieces of paneer in the bowl, making it $2.30 per tiny bite after tax. Either a rip off r a mistake. Everything else was fairly priced. We ordered 2 naan and got a good basket full of nice fresh naan. I was craving tikka paneer, and hubby and I got chicken tikka as well, intending to share. The paneer bowl was a good size but ALL SAUCE. Only a few pieces of paneer, I think it was 6. I would have returned it, but hubby said he wasn't hungry and would eat it. Ambiance super cool with really beautiful instrumental music playing in the background. Then the food super WITH lots of SPICES and perfectly spicy to get your immune system flowing nicely! A few nights ago, we placed an order through Uber Eats, and regrettably, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had in quite some time. As former loyal patrons of Everest, we were once enamored with their cuisine and frequented their establishment regularly. However, this recent meal, which cost over $130, left us thoroughly disheartened. Everest was renowned for serving some of the finest Indian food in Sonoma County, but this time, the dishes were overwhelmingly sweet, as though sugar had been added to everything, including the tikka masala sauce. The chicken, unfortunately, was tough, rubbery, and entirely unappetizing. It's disheartening to see such a decline in quality, especially from a restaurant we once held in such high regard. The noticeable changes over the past few months make us wonder if there has been a change in ownership. Whatever the case, this experience was deeply disappointing and not at all reflective of the standards Everest was once known for. read more

So we gave this restaurant another try after I said we would not go back. I let the waitress know how bad the Mulligatawny soup twice ! Even the waiter said the soup was not right it was too watery and there was no chicken in it. So I told her I would like to try it one more time and I would just return it if it was not good.. I'm glad I spoke up because the soup was amazing every bit of the food we got this night was like it used to be . We will try it again, and hopefully it will not disappoint again. Everest is our favorite Indian Nepalese restaurant in Petaluma. If we crave Indian food you better be damn sure we are ordering Everest (^___^). They are located off of East Washington street in the Golden Eagle Shopping Center across from the dollar tree with plenty of parking. I have dined inside a couple of times & let me tell you they are busy, specially on the weekends. Its better to call ahead of time or just make a reservation to be safe. I prefer take out myself just because I like my couch better 99% of the times :) Our go to feasting take out order with my husband is pretty much always Veggie pakoras (crispy fried veggies in flour), Samosa (crispy dough filled with potatoes & pees), Sag Paneer (creamy spinach stew type with chunky tofu like cheese pieces), Chicken Tikka Masala (chicken breast in creamy spiced tomato stew) & Chicken Tikka kabob (marinated charred chicken breasts roasted in their tandoor). Keep in mind that for your stew type dishes you can do mild, medium or hot spicy. If I want to enjoy spicy I usually do medium which is not too bad but definitely gauge your tolerance. Each of the main dishes come with rice or naan (bread) so we usually mix & match white rice with garlic naan. We also love their cheese naan, so gooey & yummy dipped in stews. The Pakora & Samosa come with some side sauces to dip in as well, my favorite is the green chutney sauce. Its so fragrant with the herbs in it & goes perfect with the fried food to cut down the grease. These dishes are all our absolute favorite go to dishes that my husband & I LOVE & keep going back to. The staff are always so friendly & get our order ready in usually 30-40 minutes to be picked up. I honestly haven't had a bad dish from Everest. Every dish that I have tried so far is an explosion of flavor & so good.
