The only place where you can swim with an alligator! And Chris takes the best pictures!

How fitting that this is my 500th review because I LOVE this place!! I came in recently for a socially distanced gator encounter with Chris Gillette. It was truly one of the most incredible experiences of my whole life. I booked the encounter through Chris's website at crocodilechris.com - the experience takes place at this Outpost. The Outpost itself is easy to find. If you book Chris 's experience, admission to the outpost is included. The outpost hosts all kinds of wildlife rescues. It is a place where you can truly gain some knowledge about the animal world and you can see some amazing creatures. The outpost is not an entertainment venue but rather is a rescue so come expecting to be educated, not entertained. That being said, the up-close gator encounter is super entertaining. You get to swim with Casper and he is a super chill and very trained alligator. The water is super chilly but I got used to it after a while. Chris is so great - he taught me a lot and made me feel completely comfortable and safe the entire time. He also took some really great photos! I definitely recommend getting his photo package if you do the encounter. I will definitely be back again soon and bringing some friends! Great place!

Hands down what an awesome experience! Why aren't there more non profit places like this? I left with a mission to one day open my own sanctuary. I recommend this place to all animal lovers- although it is hard to see some of the animals and read their back stories as to how and why they ended up here. I appreciate anyone that takes time to educate others about animals. The star of the show was definitely Q and Casper! He absolutely killed it! His personality and the way he interacted with the gators was everything! Aside from the gator show there were some other animals to see and feed. For $7 you can buy a basket of food to feed the gators. Definitely not expensive and well worth the drive to visit this place. I loved it! & so did my family.

If you care about animals and support wildlife rescue programs, this is a great place to visit. You will pay about $20 to get in, but they do great work here. The animals are all rescued. Some from people who thought it would be cool to have a pet tiger (until it wasn't)....and various other scenarios where an animal cannot be returned to the wild. If you plan your trip carefully, you can also catch an educational alligator program, and then hold a baby gator at the end. Most of it is just to walk through and read about each of the animals and how they ended up there. I first went a couple years ago with a group and we got a private tour, but that would need to be arranged in advance. The location is easy to find and they have a large parking lot. There was a BBQ food truck set up there the day we went. They also have clean restrooms! I recommend swinging by Robert is Here fruit stand for a smoothie right before Everglades Outpost. Its about a half mile away. Schnebly Winery is not too far either, so go make a day of it!

We came to the Everglades Outpost on a field trip today. The tour was excellent. The staff were warm and friendly. Even more important is that they truly care about the animals. We saw the wolves, the black bears, the Florida Panthers, the tigers, Chewy the camel and so many more of the 700 animals that live at the Outpost. There was a shaded area with picnic tables that was perfect for lunch. Afterwards, we sat in the bleachers for the show. Our students enjoyed the opportunity to hold a small alligator and or a snake. Overall the trip was relaxing and fun. I highly recommend it for groups as well as family day trips. They do not have a gift shop or vending machines so bring whatever you need to eat or drink. Nearby is Robert is Here fruit stand. They make delicious shakes. I'd suggest stopping in at the stand while you are in the area.

We loved Everglades Outpost. My husband did the swimming with a gator and he loved every minute. Chris is fantastic! He explained everything so well to ensure safety and was so great at handling Casper. We also loved seeing all the other animals while we were there. The lady at the front desk was super sweet and friendly!

Everglades Outpost is a non profit that rescues and rehabilitates wild animals. It was founded by Bob Freer in 1989. He started off rescuing small birds, opossums, and raccoons. From there he got into big cats, rescuing Willow the panther who was confiscated during a drug bust, Rocky the tiger from an exotic dancer, and a grizzly bear that was being kept as a pet in a backyard in Miami Beach. Monkeys from a research facility also found a home at Everglades Outpost. Kenya is a lemur who ended up here when her owner took out all of her teeth so she wouldn't bite and then didn't want to feed her a special diet. Besides visiting all of the animals be sure and catch the alligator show starring Casper. Casper is more dog than ferocious reptile. During the show they swim, carry, and kiss Casper. If you are feeling brave you too can swim with Casper for 30 minutes for $250. This is the only place in the world that you can swim with an alligator. Casper is the only alligator you can interact with but this refuge has taken in hundreds of alligators that have been removed from neighborhoods for being nuisance gators. The Everglades Outpost as I previously mentioned is not for profit. All of the people who work here are volunteers and all of the money raised goes to the care of the animals. A regular adult admission is $15 but they offer a Groupon. You can also purchase special tours and feeding experiences which helps support the Outpost. While I appreciate what they are doing, the mistreatment these animals have endured makes me so mad. There needs to be stronger laws to prevent people from owning exotic animals as pets. They need to be out in the wild where they belong, not suffering at the hands of some inexperienced human. Even though the enclosures here are larger than what is required by the state they still seem too small to me. I want a place like this not have to exist. Sadly there will always be a stupid person thinking they should own a tiger and they would have to be put down if it was not for Everglades Outpost taking them in along with a lot of other animals. So come out and support them. It would be great if some millionaire would drop them a hefty donation. Until that day, volunteer, donate, and buy a ticket so they can keep caring for the animals.

The alligator show alone deserves high ratings. I've been to a lot of attractions and I've seen several alligator shows and what no, but I had never seen a show like the one here at Everglades Outpost. These guys went in chest deep water with alligators swimming in it. I was really impressed with their presentation. The rest is kind of basic and there's not much to do. We saw tigers, panther, donkeys, camel, zebra, parrots, wolves, turtles, chickens and roosters. Their IG page shows more animals (bear, snake, raccoon) but I totally missed those. Can't beat their Groupon deal, $13 for 2 people. Kids 5 and under are free.

This place is ok. I've been a few times because my daughter loves to feed the alligators. It's too pricey for what it is which is a very brief tour of some of the rescued animals. You can walk this place in about 15 min and that's with stopping to feed the gators. $20 per adult, $15 child - should be $10 and $5. I understand they have to make money to stay open but for the price I wouldn't recommend. A few miles down there's airboat rides, gator shows, and you can hold a gator for the same price. They should try to think of more creative ways to interact with visitors. My last visit they didn't even bother to have the gator show. Ok place, just would recommend other places if someone asked me for suggestions.

This "small zoo" was a perfect place to take our nephew. It's located right down the street from the oh so famous Robert is Here(perfect to grab a cold shake) and is a cute must stop. Complete with endangered and non-endangered animals. We paid the $15 entrance fee and went on our walk. We went on a weekday so there weren't any shows like alligator wrestling but we actually enjoyed just taking it all in ourselves. Now this place is small and maybe not what people expect. There's nothing fancy here it's honestly just animals with trees everywhere (provides decent shade on hot days) in cages or their private or enclosed areas. We got to see alligators,a crocodile (notice said he was in training), iguanas, parrots, zebra, a camel, monkeys, tigers, a bear , and my one of my worst fears...snakes. They had an abundance of alligators. In the case of numbers you'll see them the most. The set up looks as if your walking through a small jungle. Big trees everywhere and it looks like they've built around them to keep an authentic wild look.It's kept well but you can still see some damage from last years hurricane. The animals looked like they were taken care of but I honestly hate to see them in cages. But I also understand some of these animals were saved from being put down so I appreciate this facility for keeping them alive. They have a small museum that looks more like a double wooden shed. Inside holds different artifacts from different time periods and native weapons and pottery. They also had stuffed alligators and skin from some kind of animal (claws were still on them and I forgot to ask what animal it was). They also had vintage items, signs, and different items like purses, shoes, belts etc made out of alligator skin. Walking towards the back end is a sign of poisonous animals. Now I have a fear of snakes....like seriously. So I let my BF walk in the back to look at all the snakes they had and I just stood in the doorway with our nephew ( I didn't want to let him walk in there) ..yeah Im a scaredy cat...but from the doorway i could see the pretty colors and details of the snakes....that was enough for me. We continued walking back out on the grounds and came up on the wolves. There were 2 that we saw and they were very playful with eachother. There was also a lemur who just kept walking back and forth (he was waiting for his food as the employees had just appeared with bowls to feed all the animals), there was a camel who was just in the back eating and a zebra who I was having a staring competition with. At the end there were the tigers and a black bear. All were sleeping besides the one white tiger who looked like he just wanted to be pet. We really liked coming here and our nephew enjoyed looking at all the animals. My only complaint is that it was really a hot day and besides the sunblock we put on we really should've worn some bug repellent. So be prepared. This place although small is a must stop. Come see something different in a more natural enviroment then a "real zoo", get out that element. It's hard to imagine that one of these days some of these animals won't exist. These people genuinely care about the well being of these animals and look forward to a future of possibly taking some of them off the endangered list.

It was definitely less cheeky than expected with little TLC on groundskeeping so I wasn't expecting much at first glance. There were random junkanoo type stuff laying around with overgrown grass in areas and rocks...but nothing too manicured, everything just kinda thrown together. Some of the animals there have been raised by the owners, others have been rescued but every animal has its own little story. We took a private tour and got a chance to feed some of the animals which was a pretty neat experience. As seen in the pics, there's a little bit of everything. Tigers, a black bear, two panthers, wolves and a lemur, among many others. Animals seem to be nourished and taken care of and their living conditions although caged are clean and maintained. Not sure how these wildlife refuge places get funded if at all, but my only hope is that they pump some money into these to improve the living conditions for the animals and the overall aesthetic of the property. Hard to tell for me whether an animal is happy or not when they're caged but improving the quality of their space maybe attempting to recreate their own habitat would be good. The bear enclosure seemed small and the poor thing had like some sort of skin condition around the eyes. I also noticed some of the cats and dogs roaming the property were in need of a little manicuring and care of their own. Overall this was a good experience with a rekindled sense of hope for animals that without places like these would have probably died or been killed/euthanized. It's nice to know there are people with an honest interest in supporting these animal's rights and are caring for them accordingly.

I'm so mixed about how many stars to give this place because on the one hand I absolutely love the fact that they are trying to rehabilitate animals then reintroduce them into their environment or keeping animals that can't be returns to their environment because they won't be able to defend themselves, but on the other hand I can't stand to see ANY animal caged. It's a pretty small place, we lucked out because it was a cool day when we went there so it wasn't uncomfortable walking around, I imagine it would have been a lot worse than a hot day. Some of the animals had signs on their enclosures explaining why they were there but most of them didn't so I wondered how and why several of them were there. It was kind of strange, there wasn't really anyone around to ask questions oh, we did see one staff member walking around but she didn't acknowledge us. I had a Groupon for the two of us, normal admission is $15 per adult but please remember that the admission does go to help care for the animals.

I am glad to see such places as this one and all the wildlife sanctuaries that can be found in the tri-county areas, as South Florida attracts not just exotic men and women of far away lands, but also a desire to own exotic pets -- it's part of our flashy culture. Once these pets become a menace, too large to handle, or a new partner comes along, the pet gets the boot. Because of this, zoos sometimes cannot handle all the influx of unwanted pets, the time needed to acclimate the animal, or training, care, surgeries and anything else that may be involved. Shelters obviously cannot take in tigers or wolves...they're unadoptable, after all, so that leaves places like this, Safari Edventure, McCarthy's, and other non-profit organizations to save the animals. It is hard to not support or appreciate the work that these people do, as non-profits. It is extremely selfless, hard work! Everglades Outpost charges a minimal admission fee, and with their Groupon and LivingSocial deal, it truly is a bargain. All this money goes toward caring for the animals (food, vaccinations, supplies), as the place is run by volunteers. Parking is minimal, but considering their secluded location, you can park anywhere nearby and not worry about tow trucks, fines, or some greedy cop wanting to meet his quota of parking tickets. Although the place is not very large, you can spend a lot of time here talking to the volunteers and learning about the animals, their habits, and other characteristics. Therefore, it is up to you how much time you spend. We spent about 2-3 hours here. There was a veterinarian on the grounds named Jessica, and my daughter enjoyed asking her questions, as she wants to become a vet (specifically, a herpetologist). In addition to being able to walk the grounds, there is an alligator show at certain hours of the day. Call in advance to find out their schedule! Timmy, one of the young volunteers, eagerly brought out a large alligator and performed some incredible stunts, as well as explaining that it is impossible to gouge out the eyes of an alligator. Did you know that alligators have a membrane that protects their eyes from debris in the water, and although it looks white to us, it's actually see-through so they can see through the water? In addition to the alligator show, you can hold a small alligator, and even some of the babies, which look like little geckos with beautiful hazel green eyes. It's not hard to imagine why some people may fall in love with such adorable little creatures without realizing they can end up growing up to 13 feet long and with jaws and teeth that can rip you apart. In addition to the alligator show, don't forget to check out the reptile exhibit, containing lizards and snakes. This is housed in an area close to the entrance, and across the cute and highly intelligent cockatoo. There are several macaque monkeys, a crocodile, a jaw-droppingly beautiful Florida panther named Sabal (my first time ever seeing a Florida panther!), tortoises and wolves. Peacocks and peahens roam the grounds. Although I don't like photographing animals in cages, I figured many people had never seen a Florida panther, as they are endangered and very hard to come by, and so I decided to photograph it. You are kept far away from the carnivores, courtesy of a stone wall further pushing you away from the fence, so there is no way of avoiding the fence's presence in pictures. The Siberian tigers were beautiful, though the female was very testy, rejecting the advances of the male as he tried to engage in some...love -- despite the fact the male was larger, she pushed him off and growled at him until he retreated to a corner. Yup, crazy, huh? There is also a bear, although it ignored us and slept the whole time pretty much. Since we were there for several hours, we got to see the feeding of the carnivores. Quentin, one of the volunteers, told us this was a special thing, as most people do not get to see that. A whole turkey is given to each tiger, so it's easy see how expensive it can be to run a non-profit. The bear ate a whole fruit bowl. Did you know there is such a thing as an alpha female in a wolf pack? Probably not. This may explain why some of the wolves had some eye irritation -- they try to test and see which wolves will step up to become the alpha and if they become too aggressive, then they must be moved to their own cage. It's not hard to imagine wolves fighting and clawing at each other. At the entrance, there are zebras, a camel, and donkeys. I had never been that close to a standing camel and did not realize how tall they are. They have such large eyes and such long eyelashes! I have no idea how people can feel relaxed, comfortable and steady on top of such a large animal. I'd like to some day go to the Middle East and ride one, but not sure how steady I would feel and would probably worry about it tripping and knocking me over! read more

The Outpost is not closed. This is their current website information: http://www.evergladesoutpost.org/ We have enjoyed seeing the exotic animals they have on display up-close and personal for many years. They have Florida Panthers, Bears, Crocodiles, Snakes, and more. They help Todd the Wildlife Capture Guy safely capture and relocate, or rehabilitate, some of South Florida's Wilder Wildlife! (The kind you don't find on South Beach...) It's worth a trip down there. Stop at Robert is Here on the way home, and head out to the Everglades Alligator Farm just down the road for an airboat ride and more alligator exhibits, and you've got a full day of Florida Homestead Everglades Wildlife local flair and fun! read more

Woke up early and decided to check this place out. I read there were bears and tigers so we were excited. When we got there, there wasn't anyone there. I believe I saw one volunteer. We walked around and saw a bear, turtles, alligators, and snakes. A parrot greeted us and said hello, which was cute, pretty smart bird that just kept talking and talking lol. Finally Chris, one of the volunteers started telling us stories about the macques we saw. They are the cutest creatures and they stick their hands out if the cage for food. It's pretty cool being so close to them. One had a pinkish reddish face and but lol. The lemur was so sweet but doesn't have any teeth! When you go you can read about the story. They have particular feeding shows but we didn't see any. All in all it's a nice place to go check out. read more

Very cool place to check out, especially on a budget. Admission was next to nothing (compared with the Zoo and Jungle Garden). You can practically touch them! Their animals change as they get picked up or moved. My favorite is the Lemur, Kenya. She's soo cute! You can actually reach in and pet her :) read more

My son and I got a Groupon to come here and had a good time. He's 4 years old so the animals were fun to see. It's small and only took 30 minutes or so before that was enough. There are a lot of flys and bugs around, bringing bug spray would be a great idea. Also it was really hot and humid so that didn't help either. I wouldn't go back again but it was fun to stop and see. read more

So... I drove a bit out of my way to visit this place. I had bought some tickets on Groupon and thought it was a nice idea to visit and support a wildlife refuge. I joked about how it was probably some guys backyard, I wasn't far from the truth unfortunately. So we got there and parking was easy. We walked in and there wasn't anyone there to check our tickets. There didn't seem to be anyone working there at all actually. The place was filthy and every animal was laying down. Which is fine because it's pretty warm out in South Florida. Maybe some were dead? I couldn't tell. However, a lot of these animals lived in pretty poor conditions. Dirty water, food and the animals themselves looked pretty bad. At least the small reptile house was kind of neat. We walked the whole thing and didn't see a single employee. We left and it left a really bad impression on us. I would not recommend this place, I hope it gets shut down soon actually. These animals deserve better care. read more

The love and the passion that the volunteers give to those mostly RESCUED animals are second to none. This place is basically ran by volunteers. That's right. So if anybody complains about how small the habitats are for them then be part of the solution and DONATE. They don't get no help whatsoever from the state, government etc., this is non-profit so guess what, the volunteers rely on donations and money earned from visitors to feed and maintain. Many times, they spend their own money. Help out and refer people to come and visit; ask your local publix, or any grocery stores to donate their foods. Any who, this place is amazing and is my family's favorite spot. The 1 hour drive is way worth it. read more

This place is amazing! We got the groupon deal for the behind the scenes tour and we were able to feed a camel, zebra, two donkeys, and four tortoises at the beginning of the tour. Then we fed the alligators and crocodiles. We got to see beautiful birds, macaws, a lemur, jackrabbits, monkeys, and visited the snake/reptile area. We got to see beautiful wolves and Florida Panthers! Then we saw and got to feed these gorgeous tigers. We also met a beautiful black bear. Last we got to see the alligator show, which was very cool! Our tour guide, Jennifer was exceptional the whole time! Can't wait to go back! read more

MARVELOUS organization! They rehabilitate injured and abused or abandoned wildlife and release those who can survive it back into the wild. They run solely on donations and do a terrific with the acreage they have. Animals all seemed very happy, well-tended and calm. A FABULOUS experience. (For my birthday today, my husband bought a family membership which includes a private tour. Perfect gift for animal lovers!) Really nice place. These people are doing a great thing. 100% of everything is being done by volunteers here, and they are all friendly and helpful. I went around 2:30pm on a Saturday and it was just in time for an alligator show. It was pretty cool (never been to one before) but kind of brief, maybe 20 minutes of actual alligator action, they only did a couple "tricks" but keep in mind the people running the shows are volunteers and not trained professionals so don't expect a long performance with anything elaborate. It was still plenty entertaining and they let everyone hold baby alligators (with their mouths taped) and take pictures which I thought was really cool. There's a big array of animals here, a cute toothless lemur, birds, Macaques, Sables, Wolves, a Camel, a zebra, some donkeys, BEAUTIFUL tigers, turtles, peacocks, snakes, iguanas, crocodiles and alligators. I'm reading reviews from other people here who say they saw a bear, I didn't see one :( I didn't know to look for one though. The place is a little small, took maybe 45 minutes (not counting the alligator show) to walk around and look at the animals, but the variety of things to look at made up for the small size. I do have to mention though that I was saddened by the wolves, as were a few other people. They ALL had eye infections that weren't being treated correctly. The volunteer said it's from gnats (and something else I forget). I really think they need to bring in someone to take care of it if they can't do it themselves. I recommend going to this place if you love animals. Just keep in mind you will be looking at them while they are inside their cages, and you cannot touch any of the animals and they won't bring them out. Only animal I was able to touch were the baby alligators. Original price is $12 a person, which honestly I think is overpriced especially since it's a self guided tour. I got a Groupon for $12 admission for 2 people. I would not have paid full price for what I saw. $6 a person is very reasonable though with the Groupon! I understand the high price is what helps feed and house these animals though, I just don't want to go broke. read more

Been here twice. Self guided tour Cheap with student discount and usually have Groupon as well. Non profit. Most animals here were confiscated from previous drug dealer who kept these animals illegally. 2nd time I went too really cool pictures. Came around 5pm when they were feeding the animals so tigers, leopard and bear were all out of the cages. We purchased the Groupon. It took maybe 1 hour to walk through. The animals were neat to see but there's no one there to talk to about the animals. Some of the animals had signs to tell you about them but not all. If you're in the area you could stop by but definitely not worth a long drive to see it. read more

Definitely recommend you take a trip down to the refuge. Although a very small zoo, there was plenty to keep us entertained. Most of the animals we were able to touch since the enclosure is very close. The lemur is very friendly and so is the camel. They come up to us and wanted to be scratched everywhere! There are wolves, tigers, a bear, tortoises, snakes, lizards, a zebra and a few others. read more

This place was so much more than I expected. For $25 you get the behind the scenes tour which was great. Got to feed wolves, a bear, alligators, a camel and a zebra. If you go I recommend asking for Quinton as your guide, he was funny and knew so much about the animals. Overall great place and you can tell the animals is their main concern. read more

We are visiting from Boston and were looking for an outdoor unique Miami adventure. We found a groupon and this was a great hit! It's pretty funky when u arrive and walk in worried all there was to feed the camel. We went with the behind the scenes tour, and it was great. Jenny was our volunteer guide and she was great!!! Ask for her when u call to reserve. Highly recommend the behind scenes visit. Ask lots and lots of questions. Expect a two hour visit for that. read more

This is such a nice place to see interesting adorable animals. You're able to come close to exotic animals which is better than a zoo! The staff was very friendly and Chewy the Camel was the best part about the visit! I would recommend this spot to my family and friends any day. My favorite part about this place is that they're truly concerned about the animals and they take them in with open arms. Animals need all the love they can get. This place might not be the nicest maintenance wise but it must be hard running an animal rescue. The animals are fed and are safe in captivity. Think about it, they're injured and they wouldn't survive in the wild anyway. This is a great spot to teach kids about animals and I love their message and their dedication. read more

This was the most humbling, enriching experience anybody could have. I came for the alligator swim, but because we kept poor chris all day the other members of the facility asked if we'd like to see the other animals while we waited our turn. You could see they absolutely loved their animals, and the people it brought in. They treated us not like customers but like friends, and gave us up close and personal time with the other animals including lion cubs, snakes, parrots, bears, panthers and more. Please please go and take your kids to teach them about wildlife!! read more

this place is awesome!! Great price especially when you buy the Groupon..... but even without the Groupon I would still buy it because it's non profit and the money goes directly to them. Amazing. I love this place and what it stands for. IT IS A RESCUE NOT A ZOO, PEOPLE!!!!! for those who said this is not a zoo they are entirely right. If you want to go get drunk, ripped off, buy shitty food, and stand far away from everything.... then go to the zoo lol. This is a much smaller more personal experience, and it's great if you actually love animals and want to support a good cause. Very cute. I had a great time coming here for my birthday. Came here with a Groupon I purchased. Was very cheap, the place is overall ok. I would say they need more staff to help, their wore only 4 people on the premises. The young adults performing with the alligators wore alone, kind of scary. The show was fun since the guys wore funny. They have some artifacts that wore very good and helpful information. The animals are well treated and cared for. read more

As a form of entertainment, Everglades Output would rank one or two stars. It can't compete with Disney World, or Parrot Jungle, or even Everglades airboat rides. But as a wildlife clinic, none other in south Florida can compare. Animals from across the world find their way to Florida and when injured or abandoned, they're brought to the Everglades Output. Your admission ticket is essential for this small non profit to survive and thus the animals to survive. It's small, basic, muddy, smelly, and only a modest but daring alligator show. But their work is vital and represents the fundamental decency within humanity, people volunteering to care for others, the lost, the injured, the abandoned, and those that cannot care for themselves. Visit. Volunteer. Donate. It's the humane thing ro do. For those reasons, I give it four stars, four stars to all the volunteers who ahow everyday our better natures. read more

This was a horrible experience. I came here with my daughter and her kids. First off there was no one there so we just walked in. I thought that this was going to be a fun learning experience but when I saw these animals in the smallest cages my opinion changed. Behind the tiger there was a wolf just pacing back and forth in the smallest cage. It was almost like they found land and took animals in and put them in a fence. They habitats that they should be living are not the ones that they are living in. They have dirt as the ground and if there is room a boulder or two. When we arrived at the cage they all came towards us looking for food. All the animals were sad and depressed. I liked the idea of this place it's just not what I expected. This place is pretty cool. I'm glad I got a groupon 2 for $13. Otherwise, I'm not sure if it's worth the $13 per person although I would pay it just to help the cause of the place. The aligator show was AWESOME! The kids pretty amazing and it really seems he's created a bond between him and the aligator he worked with for most of the show. An aligator can actually be trained?? Seemed like it. Anyways, he was funny and entertaining. The show is worth going. Everything else is ok. The animals do seem to not be in the best condition with limited space. However, I think the owner is working with very limited resources and for a very good cause. I mean some people here on yelp are complaining that it's inhuman but they go and spend almost $40 at the Miami seaquarium. I mean let's be real. The staff was really friendly. And would go around informing people of the new showtime. What's funny to me is how they are volunteers who don't get paid and seem to love what they do. But you go to other places like the zoo or seaquarium or even just a restaurant where people ARE getting paid and have terrible customer service. It's a nice place to check out . You'd be in and out in 2 hours tops. read more

I've been to every nature center, airboat/ gator tour and zoo in South Florida. The private tour at Everglades Outpost was the absolute best animal interaction of my life. My kids and whole family enjoyed it. We took photos sitting on a 10' gator, fed camels, bengal tigers, bears, wolfs, panthers and more. There were snakes, tortoises, lemurs, monkeys, birds and more. The guide was loaded with knowledge. We're already planning our return visit. TIP: Your under a tree canopy but outside the whole time. Bring water. Plan around the weather. Wear shoes you can wash. Wear bug spray. And bring cash to top your guide. read more

Everglades Outpost is the best place to visit in South Florida! The Directors, Bob & Barb put their heart & soul into this place. They are the only wildlife rescue like this & take in exotic animals from all over the U.S. Rocky the Bengal tiger, Wookie the camel, the wolves, Buck the bear, they're all rescues from people who bought them as "pets". They have alligator wrestling, a snake show and go to schools to educate people about wildlife conservation. They walk the walk more than any zoo or theme park I've been to. It's also one of the least expensive admission prices by about $40 less per person! Stop at Robert is Here for a fresh fruit smoothie on your way home. We went to visit Sunday afternoon with a Groupon that had purchased for 4. We were greeted very nicely and even though we showed up an hour earlier than our appointment, they acommodated us. The place is not tidy but am sure it takes quite a bit of effort and money to maintain since some of the animals like the tigers, wolves, and panthers eat a lot. Some of the animals have been raised by the owners, others have been rescued. I recommend that you call ahead and make an appointment for a private tour. It definitely made this a great experience and Quintin was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond the call of duty. If you are an animal lover this is definitely for you! We got to feed the tigers, alligators, crocodiles, wolves, and bear, but what made it so wonderful is that each animal has a story and you learn about them. We also got to see many snakes and experienced the handler moving a cobra which was 14' long from one cage to another. This was a rare treat! We have been to many zoos and I have been to Africa on safari, but had never been so close to a tiger, wolves, bear, zebra, lemur, and panther. Chewey the camel is the sweetest. It was a lot of fun for my young adults. The animals are taken care of and are better off here because they would not have survived in the wild. (You will understand when you hear their story). Not sure how this place gets funded, but I hope that they get more money to improve the living conditions and aesthetics. This was a great experience and hope for animals that are abused, abandoned and cannot survive on their own. Hats off to Quintin, owners, and staff! It takes a lot of money and effort to maintain this rescue. I hope that you visit to provide much needed support. read more

11 year old cousin was bored so I did some research on cool places to go and stumbled upon the Everglades Outpost. When we went it was chock full of young volunteers helping around the grounds as well as Mr. Bob Freer who pretty much runs the sanctuary. Cost to enter was very economical compared to other zoo like places around South Florida but it did not matter anyway since I know it all goes to the animals. This sanctuary is home to a sweet lemur named Kenya, florida panthers, an extremely sweet bernese mountain dog, alligators of all sizes, different types of snakes, frogs, lizards, japanese macaque monkeys including a newborn, a camel, a zebra, tigers, wolves, tortoises as well as turtles, geese, peacocks...I hope I didnt miss anymore animals (there were plenty!). This place has so much potential but you could see that they're trying their best to keep afloat. If I was rich I'd give a good chunk of change to these people but unfortunately I could only do so much. The animals are obviously well taken care of. The only thing this place needs is a little spruce up as far as landscaping goes but other than that its fine. I love animals and nature and I find it commendable that Mr. Bob Freer dedicates himself to helping animals of all kinds who are in need. It's a shame that these animals had to end up where they are because of ignorant stupid greedy malicious people but at least they have a place they can call home. After we visited the outpost we made a stop at Robert is Here which is down the street. It can be a nice little day trip idea! read more

We had a GREAT GREAT time!! Good place to go with the kids and spend 2 hours or so looking at alot of different animals. Black bear is awesome! Lemur, Bengal Tiger, Florida Panther, ALOT OF GATORS!! AWESOME GATOR SHOW!! QUINTON WAS AWESOME!!! Hes so knowledgeable and funny!! Hes only 19 and has been working with gators for 11 years!! Awesome show these guys have big cojones!!!! My boys 4 and 13 had a great time. Make sure to bring a water cooler with drinks to have in your car this florida sun is NO JOKE! Make sure to wear plenty of strong bug spray and sunscreen. Weekends seem to draw a bigger crowd. Not a whole lot of people were there it was very comfortable to enjoy. I would say, about 50 other guests. Also make sure to visit Robert is here fruit stand down the road. Best milkshakes and free petting zoo for all!! Splash pad for the kids. We will definitely be back to the evergaldes outpost frequently! ! We are locals and Loved how close we live! Make sure to tip the guys after the show not to many people did. Got there excited and pumped and that quickly turned to disappointment. We thought they were closed when we pulled in as there was no one to greet us and only two or three cars in the parking lot. Let ourselves in and 30 minutes later someone greeted us and took their fee. The "museum" is nothing but dirty dusty walls covered in spiders. There's spiders breeding INDOORS, right over your head! It's gross. Also the snake tanks, how is it humane at all to stick 6-8 snakes in one small tank? There was dead skin and poop in all their water. It was obvious no one had cleaned this place in forever. Everything was dirty and all the animals look stressed, cramped and not taken care of. I understand they're non-profit and whatnot, but this place is anything but humane. Wouldn't recommend. Not to mention we drove an hour to and from. Not worth it. read more

The Everglades Outpost was a Very cool place. Bugs were bad though, so make sure you take some bug spray! No joke! Anyways, animals were very interesting and the venomous snake room was totally amazing. The alligators/crocodiles were amazing to look at, especially the big alligator floating in the pool. It was totally watching me - Hahaha! Anyways the lemur loves to have a back scratch and the bird is definitely the security guard there. Just kidding. But that parrot definitely can sound an alarm if they ever need one! All the animals and reptiles were very interesting and awesome to see. It's an outpost that everyone should go check out. I really enjoyed it. Except for those darn mosquitoes, I made the mistake of not wearing bug spray, so I tell you all to warn you about the bugs and to get prepared. That's just the only part that was bad. The whole experience, other then the bugs, was just incredible. While I was here many of the animals had a fair amount of space and were definitely more taken care of than their original situation. For example, some of the monkeys were lab monkeys and other others were owned by civilians who thought they could take care of exotic animals when they clearly couldn't. I do wish the lions have more space for that many being in one enclosure, but it looks like all they did was lay down and sleep in the sun basking so they may just be happy like that The price is a little bit expensive for a general tour, but I don't think it's not worth it. We took the general wildlife experience and were able to have a tour and then also visit with a couple exotic species, including a couple of ball pythons, a really awesome spectacle owl, which was my favorite and some other reptiles. Overall, I think it was worth a visit, but I'm not sure I'd come back again since I feel like I saw everything unless it was for an encounter. The otter encounter seems the most interactive so I'd recommend that one. Our tour guide was Mikayla, and she was very honest and gave facts that she knew and nothing that she did. I do wish the different enclosures had labels on them to give us an idea of the names of the species and where they're originally located as the tour guide wasn't able to answer one of our questions about them but gave what she knew. I kind of like the idea that people aren't allowed to go roaming around the property on their own banging on enclosures and trying to stick their fingers through bars. I think it's just a really good safety precaution. You will be limited to about an hour worth of a visit overall I had a great time.

It was 50 for adults and 25 for kids. It includes a one hour tour of the whole zoo. It is phenomenal how close you can get to the animals, including the lions and tigers, monkeys, capybara, sloths, etc. It also includes a hands-on experience with five animals. We were able to hold an alligator, a snake, feed a lemur, and touch an owl. You can book (for an additional price) close encounters with specific animals, but it was super enjoyable without doing this. I only wish it would be longer! Our tour guide Kique was amazing, knowledgeable, and patient with us! I would love to return again.

We were told that it was $150 each!?? we had to decline that. We were there for 3 "Shows". Two of them were pretty much identical, simply feeding the monkeys but at different locations. The other one was feeding a tortoise. The person narrating and his helper were dressed in what looked like African Safari Ranger gear - all for show for the little kids. What you will hear is about how great the place was before hurricane Andrew essentially wiped it out. Now it is basically 25 or so small monkeys, a couple tortoises, one large lizard, and a couple cages of parrots. They appeared to be doing the minimum amount needed to keep the doors open. There is a monkey feeding station where you can purchase food and put it into these little buckets that the monkeys pull up themselves to eat from above you. That was the highlight for us and my kids really enjoyed that part. If it wasn't for that, the place would have been a bust considering the Miami zoo is less expensive, a much shorter drive and on a completely different level. My advice to the owner would be to allow pictures and interaction with the monkeys for free to make it worth it and more attractive for people to want to come there.

We started with a seasonal special event, the Mango Tasting Tour. Our guide, Madelyn was a font of knowledge about the park itself, the trees we were passing through, and the fruits we sampled. I think in the end it was about 8 different varieties and everyone on the tour had their own favorites. Then we went back to base for different tasting tour with Phillip, who showed us new areas of the park and we tasted another 6 fruits with him! Really cool fruits like longan and caviar limes, but also things I'd never heard of, like bael and bilimbi. Once our tours were done we went back to the gift shop / lobby for some cold drinks. They sell iced coffee, soda, energy drinks, Gatorade, and even beer, wine, and cider, so something for everyone. You can also simply walk the grounds on your own if you don't feel like riding around in a tram. Anything on the ground is up for grabs, so if you want to try something go ahead and taste it! They do have rules, no picking growing fruits, and you can't take fruit home, but they welcome you taking all the seeds you want.

There was plenty of parking, which made arrival easy. Because the weather was cooler earlier in the day, some of the animals weren't out, but we still enjoyed seeing the ones that were. We stopped by a stand and grabbed spiked slushies, and let me tell you they were realllllllyyyyy good! Especially once the day heated up, they were very refreshing as we walked around. The zoo offers several ways to get around, including guided golf cart tours, a mini train, and cycle cart rentals. We decided to skip those and just get our steps in instead, which worked out nicely. We had a great time with the animals we did get to see, though we only managed to cover about half of the zoo before the little one was ready to head out. We'll definitely be back to finish exploring!

It's so fun to do something different each time you go... sometimes it's fun just to rent a pedal boat and hang out on the lake. There is a park for kids and 2 splash pads. One near the park and the other in the Amazon. What I love about zoo Miami is that you an experience the zoo a different way every time you come. They also host seasonal evening events. They like to keep you busy because we arrived just before noon and they had an alligator feeding at noon. They have a breeding pond with over 200 alligators, about five females to every one male. The feeding show took about 10 minutes and included some education about alligators and their breeding practices. We headed to the boat loading area and loaded up. We enjoyed a 20 minute airboat ride, mostly at high speeds, with some 360 and 180 degree turns. They warn that you will get wet and the front seats are the wettest. This is not a ride to see alligators. There are companies geared toward that elsewhere. This is more for the thrill. They also provide ear protection. Afterward, we grabbed some fried gator nuggets and walked around the park. They have baby gators, snakes and reptiles, emus, birds, and other animals that you can check out. They also have some encounters that you can pay extra for, but these also require paying admission. Then they had another show at 1pm, which included some gator wrestling, which basically was gentle and alligator friendly. They then offered people the chance to hold a baby gator at the end. It was a great experience and worth the $36.

Some food dishes were dirty and even had feces inside, many cages appeared to have little to no food available, and I witnessed birds trying to eat from empty bowls. I also observed dirty water feeders, including some with algae buildup, and in some cages there did not appear to be fresh water available. The birds also seemed to be fed mainly only black sunflower seeds, which is not an appropriate primary diet for parrots and similar birds. Birds are highly intelligent animals and need stimulation, toys, and proper daily care. I did not see toys or enrichment tools in the cages. It is even more troubling that this property operates as a wedding and event venue. Loud music, nighttime events, and constant disruption are not an appropriate environment for animals, especially sensitive exotic birds. I hope the owners do the right thing and hire a qualified professional to properly care for these birds. There have also been concerns raised about the treatment of birds at this property going back to 2023. A macaw that was reportedly showing signs of severe stress, where he plucked all his feathers out. That bird is no longer there, which adds to the concern about the overall welfare of the exotic birds kept on site. (Plumage destructive behavior; which stemmed from boredom, stress, improper diet, and/or illness.)

If this was a $10 admission fee, I'd probably add one star. But, they charge $25/pp and there's not much to the place. All that said....is it interesting? Sure. It makes you wonder why the guy who built the place obsessively worked to make it. The story about his lost love gives his the motivation. Still, pretty incredible that he went to this effort by himself.

Hubs told me about it, and then we heard about it together on Coast to Coast Am, early in our marriage. I had forgotten all about it until we were planning our trip to the Keys and my husband brought it up, so, we made it a priority to visit. Homestead is basically the last city you hit on the mainland before you begin your journey through the Keys, so you don't really have to make special plans to get here if you're heading there. Admission is $25 per adult, slightly less for children. With tax and a credit card convenience fee of $1.50, our total admission cost was $55. Personally, I think it was worth it, but then, I am into the weird stuff. The place can accomodate at least 100 people, but due to the oddity of the place and, I'm guessing, it's lack of notoriety, it doesn't seem to get very busy. There were maybe 25-30 people in the 2.5 hours we spent there. Coral Castle is almost entirely outdoors and exposed to the elements, so it is not really a castle. There are sitting areas, a dining area, bathing area and one enclosed living (sleeping) area. The living area could be called a tower, as it is two floors, but 1) You only get to see the lower floor which is now kind of a tool shed museum and 2) You can peek in it, but you can't actually go in it. Everything is made of a type of stone called oolite limestone. It is extremely strong and very heavy. The mystery of the castle is how it was built. How did one 5' tall man move multiple stones, weighing a ton or more, by himself? How did he make his stone chairs rock, and his stone gates turn? He claimed to know the secrets of the pyramid builders, and to this day, no one really knows how he did it. There are guided tours at regularly scheduled intervals, and you can join in anytime at no additional charge (recommended), or you can walk around and look at everything yourself, but there is no signage. You can stay as long as you want and take as many pictures as you want as well. There is a gift shop which has a cutout of Edward Leedskalnin, the man who built Coral Castle, that you can take a photo of or selfie with, along with the usual gift shop fare of shirts/sweatshirts, postcards, magnets, books, and other items. If you're looking for something interesting and unusual to do on the way to the Keys, I highly suggest a stop here. 99/2025

The only downside is there has been a lot of turnover in the past 10 months that we've been there. It may just be the nature of the job itself, but it hasn't really taken much from the My Gym experience overall. Oh also forgot to mention they do special events for the holidays. We dld the Christmas event where Santa was there and the Easter one with the Easter bunny. I love how they manage to incorporate these events with pictures and food and still have special gym activities. It's always such a fun "party" atmosphere at these events! We have always been able to choose classes and events that were geared for my daughter's specific age range, so it has always felt appropriate to her age and safe.

PLEASE DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE AND DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYMORE MONEY. Everglades outpost is a center filled with animal abuse, in which the animals are living in squalor. These animals have barely enough space to walk inside of the habitats they are trapped in. These animals are suffocating in the Florida heat with no type of ventilation etc. The reptiles they posses have no type of ventilation in the small cages they have been placed in and have no space to turn around. The animals have been fed at the beginning of the day and by the time the afternoon comes around the bowls of raw meat that apparently suffice as a meal are filled with HUNDREDS of maggots and the "food" automatically becomes inedible. This is one of the most depressing places I have ever been to and I'm personally coming to the defense of these animals in order to get them out of there. This is NOT a sanctuary it's a roadside zoo. The only workers are teenage volunteers who don't know any better and the man who seemed to be in charge was walking around with a beer. If that work ethic doesn't tell you anything the depressing look on the animals faces will. read more

Please do not go to this horrible place. This is no way to keep tigers and panthers, monkeys and a bear. These animals are stressed due to small enclosures. They have no life here. Everglades Outpost says they are waiting for funding to build a bigger enclosure, but for how many years have they been saying this and will continue to say this? EO also told me no other place will take the cats, but that is not true. Maybe zoos won't take them, but there are other wonderful cat facilities that will take them. I was also told that exotic cats can't cross state lines, that's hard to believe, but even so, there are places in FL for them, like BIG CAT RESCUE in Tampa. ZE-DONKEY, need I say more? J/K This is a wildlife refuge and sanctuary, it's NOT a zoo. Differences??? All the animals, reptiles and birds were brought here because they were either being abused, neglected, improperly taken care of, etc. The enclosures allow you an up-close personal (safe) experience with wildlife that is all but lost in our intensely paced modern world. And the work the volunteers do on a daily basis to keep all these animals clean and fed is unfathomable! It's also a nonprofit and run on a donation basis so everything you spend here from the door fee to the tshirts/hats goes directly to feeding and caring for these magnificent creatures! It's not large by any means, but you could spend the day here, buy a book, bring a picnic and enjoy the harmony. This place is not bad and not great either. It's an average. Though the alligator show is really exciting and fun. I am not still a hundred percent feeling okay about the animals living in Everglades. Though, I already have an idea what to expect and see here, it didn't really cross my mind that I will saw things that I am not comfortable with. Don't get me wrong, if you want your niece or nephew or even a kid of your own to see animals in the wild, bring them here. They will see a variety of animals from reptiles to mammals and so on. What I was not comfortable with was some of the cages are too small for the mammals to which it houses. I saw one wolf with a scratch on it's eye. Fell in love with this place and their friendly and informative staff. There's a Bear, Zebra, White Tiger, Camel, Florida Panthers, Wolves, TONS of alligators and crocodiles and soooo much more. We all learned so much and had a lot of fun doing it. A true must see for and all (especially the kids). Went there today, and Met the key folks that are on the website. Very friendly, down to earth people doing an amazing, caring thing for our Florida wildlife! The park itself is a bit smaller than I expected, but it has a very "rugged" everglades feel which is great. My wife got to feed Zulu and Chewey and enjoyed that experience! I shot some great video.
