I have been dining in and getting carryout from Evergreen since the late 1990s. It has long been a local favorite for Chinese food, especially in an area of Portage County where buffet options are limited. During COVID, the owner did a great job keeping the business going by offering carryout buffet service from behind a plexiglass window. One dish they offer that I rarely see at other Chinese buffets is the Volcanic Trio, made with beef, shrimp, and chicken in a spicy brown sauce. It has always been one of my favorites. Unfortunately, I do feel the overall quality has slipped in recent years, possibly due to rising costs and supply-chain challenges. The food is not quite as flavorful as it used to be, and many of the dishes seem to blend together and taste similar. The rangoons could use more flavor, and the fried dumplings are a little too heavy on the onions for my taste. The interior has not changed much over the years. It is not bad, but it could benefit from some updating and freshening up. Overall, Evergreen is still a decent place to grab Chinese takeout from the buffet when you want a variety of options, and it remains a convenient spot for lunch. For those willing to make the drive, New Peking in Streetsboro may be worth trying for bolder flavors. read more

Been dining here for so long, it is reliably good but as with many buffets, arrive between 11:30 and 12:30 for the freshest food at lunchtime. So many flavors of 'chicken donuts', bbq chicken on a stick, lovely eggplant and green beans. Buffet is a good size, plenty of variety but not so large that the food sits and wilts. Try some fruit-pineapple, mandarin oranges, melon- with the soft serve for a dessert. A good value, tasty food. read more

I walk in, the owner of the business himself rudely instructs me to sit down while I wait--so, not wanting to contribute to his attitude, I just comply. He comes back, dumps the bags & points at them, again rudely saying "take a photo of the receipt" At this point, I'm over it & I VERY politely say "I don't like how you're speaking to me." I swear this is all I said. He completely flips his lid. In front of a family with young children, the owner of this restaurant rips my DoorDash orders out of my hands & begins to verbally abuse me. If the food runs out it is replaced immediately and you will rarely wait very long. The food is also pretty good for a buffet style dining experience. The food was okay and that gets about maybe a star and a half. We did not want the buffet and were treated like we were not quite with it by the "waitress." And I put waitress in quotes because the person that approached our table in no way did a server's job. She assumed we were going to have the buffet and did not bring menus. The waitresses here are the sweetest people ever and so nice, the male owner on the other hand is a whole other situation. He is rude and homophobic, always having a rude attitude and doesn't do anything to help the workers. He rolls his eyes at you when he notices you. I have been eating here for over 14 years. I have always said it's my favorite restaurant. But recently I have been very disappointed in the quality of the food. The chicken tastes old and the desserts are a Little Debbie Nutty Bar. The waitresses are hardworking and pleasant. In the past few months, I have continued dining here for the lunch buffet thinking maybe they have corrected the low-quality food. Yelpers, ok listen real quick! The food here is delish!! I was greeted by a delicious array of fried rice, egg foo young and stir fried broccoli! Yum! The chef even waited patiently around the food to make sure all dishes were refilled as necessary. The cashier greeted us kindly when we came and communicated the same as we left. The only aspect of my visit that I didn't care for was the waiter who left dishes at our table. Even when we got up for seconds and arrived back to our seats the dishes were still there. My husband and I have been looking for a new Chinese buffet to go to since our old favorite was put out of business by the pandemic. This one was pretty decent. Everyone we met there was very nice and polite. The food was good with enough options that will definitely leave you stuffed if you try them all. The crab rangoon was my personal favorite, and they even had 3 different kinds of sushi. There's also a salad and fruit bar as well as a dessert bar. I'm a little surprised by all the bad reviews--our experience was great, and we intend to go back. This small family buffet may not be a 5-star restaurant, but it definitely gets 5 stars from us! He is always rude and we frequent this place once a week. He is never aware of customers, when he does notice you he rolls his eyes and is plain irritated. We decided to have a sit down because our favorite New Peking in Streetsboro was closed on Monday. Having not been there before and not accustomed to the protocol. There was no hostess at the door. We went to find seating having my 96 year old mother with a walker and not wanting to congregate at the front door with no social distancing. The manager reprimands my Filipino wife for not reading the sign. She politely tries to excuse herself and he continues to berate her. I think the owners of all the Chinese buffets in northeast Ohio got together in 2013 and decided "let's all be mediocre, that way we'll get equal business". Fun Buffet in Streetsboro went downhill fast. Mandarin Seafood Buffet in Twinsburg was marginal at best before the remodel and I haven't returned to try it. The Royal Buffet near Chapel Hill is hit or miss. The Pacific Buffet in Macedonia is awful. Most recently, the Evergreen Buffet has begun its decline. Back in the day, Evergreen was good almost every time. The service was usually attentive, and the food was usually good and at the correct temperature. The last couple times I've visited, including today on New Year's Day, it's just been average to below average. Nothing was particularly bad today, just so-so food that wasn't up to temperature. The young man who is usually at the register is never rude, he just is very curt and unfriendly. He never asks if your meal was good.
