We were in the area checking the nearby Asian supermarket but I was absolutely starving. Like to the point where you're getting faint and need something asap. So we decided to try this place since it was so close by. Once we entered it was very quiet. No customers or employees to be seen. We stood for about a minute and someone came out to greet us. Took a bit of time to order because a couple people came in for takeout shortly after us so they were being helped as we sat. Once we ordered, I hoped that the food wouldn't take too long since I was starving and fading away. We never asked for the food to be rushed or anything but it came out lightning fast. Literally just a couple mins. The sauteed green beans were a little over cooked and definitely over sauced. With just enough sauce to toss them in and cooked for less time they would've been much better since the sauce is very salty. But they really weren't that bad 2.75/5 The vegetable fried rice was seasoned yet bland. Lacking that char wok flavor and oddly served with celery. But not inedible 2.5/5 For the area - I'd guess this is standard and okay. In comparison to actual Chinese food it's actually not Chinese food. read more

I haven't been here in a while and I used to go here a lot. If memory serves, I used to get General Tso's chicken and it came with an egg roll, egg drop soup and a crab rangoon, I believe, beside the dinner itself that includes rice. Now you only get the chicken part with the sauce and rice. Shrinkflation. I thought it had all white meat chicken but I think it's got a lot of dark meat now. They don't even include the hot mustard, unless you ask, when you get "crab" rangoon. I didn't see much of anything that looks like crab meat and I'm thinking it would have been imitation if there was much. Mostly cream cheese and maybe a few chives. I'd rather they skip the fortune cookies and give me some mustard. I'm going to be looking for another place to get my Chinese near where I live south of 135th and Switzer. read more

Large meat portions, almost too much considering meals don't come with crab rangoon or egg rolls, and I would have traded some chicken for either of those additional items, because for one person take out it was $18....... Friendly staff, food came out at a decent time. read more

Crab Rangoon - 5 Stars Fried Rice - 5 Stars Sesame Chicken - 1 Star The sauce was flavorful and I made due by eating the fried rice soaked in the sauce. The chicken seemed like it was a processed product? I will admit I like white breast meat in my dishes, so this was not good for me. At first I thought it was simply dark meat, but am not really sure what it was. I will not return unless I am in the mood for an appetizer of Crab Rangoon. I have been frequenting Chinese Palace for about 15 years now - and I swear this is the best Chinese food in Kansas City. The crab rangoons are the best I've ever had, and it's essential to pair them with the tangy sweet n' sour sauce. The chicken fried rice is fried to perfection. The general tso's has a wonderfully spicy kick. Need I say more? The quality is consistently fantastic - I always know what I am getting when I order from Chinese Palace. I used to live in the apartments behind the shopping center where Chinese Palace is located and started eating there in the mid-90's. Over the years, the quality of their food remains the same and it is my absolute favorite Chinese restaurant in the KC metro. Their hot and sour soup is the best I've ever had and their chicken fried rice is what I crave whenever I'm nursing a cold. Try the Kan Shao Shredded Beef or the Moo Shu Chicken for something a little different. read more

Food was mediocre but we made the mistake of eating inside. They have a fish tank that was nasty with neon green water which just made the place seem gross and unclean. My kids even noticed and thought their water tasted bad and we kept attributing the food and drink tastes to the nastiness of the restaurant. We won't be back! read more

Service is wonderful and they're so nice. Food was ready super fast, and the lady running the cash register seemed really sweet. Then the food- the rangoons are awesome, and the hot and sour soup is delicious! My husband loved the egg drop soup, and we both loved the chicken lo mein. We usually go to a different chinese place for convenience and location, but this will be our new GO TO! A nice big restaurant, it seems like a nice place to dine in, but we did takeout. A friend brought me to her "usual" place for lunch. I think I will also become a regular! I love little places that serve good food with prompt service. I'm also a sucker for a great lunch special with all the fixings for a wonderful price! I did not go exotic at all today....I had the sweet and sour chicken. It was great. So was the fried rice and the spring roll AND crab rangoon (Isn't it fantastic when you get BOTH and don't have to choose???!) For me the shining star was the hot & sour soup. Really tasty. And really full of mushrooms, bamboo shoots, tofu and egg. BIG menu. Lots to try on my subsequent visits. Decor is really tired and needs updating for this to be a 5 star place, otherwise, it is amazing. read more

Don't judge the place by the outside! A coworker took me here for lunch yesterday, and I had low expectations when we pulled into this older strip mall. I am not a fan of Chinese because I usually leave feeling like grease is seaping out of my pores. Not at Chinese Palace. For as inexpensive as my lunch was, the shrimp and vegetables were large and fresh. The Red Curry Trio was a special, and I will go back just to order this dish again. I didn't finish it because I was worried what was in it.But I have heard other people who love this place.And I'm willing to try it again but I'd suggest to stay away from the sesame chicken. read more

I have yet to dine-in at this strip-mall Chinese restaurant, but reading the other reviews I may have to make the trip. I live down the street, but always order from other Chinese restaurants that are closer to Metcalf. I just never think of this place, but it has never disappointed. I recently ordered their Chicken Chow Fun and I can't stop thinking about it. It uses those wide, flat rice noodles (like in Pad See Ew) and is a really simple dish, but I couldn't stop eating it. I just placed another to-go order for lunch, so I'll add my review of the egg drop soup & crab rangoon. Soon I'll try something more adventurous here and hopefully dine-in for the full experience. The first time that I was here I got the Glazed Ginger Chicken and the Walnut Shrimp. Both were delicious. My mom always likes to order chicken and vegetable dishes with extra ginger and the Glazed Ginger Chicken fit the bill perfectly. Great selection of vegetables in it. The Walnut Shrimp was in a creamy, white, mayonnaise-style sauce. It was surprisingly good. Just the shrimp and walnuts served on a bed of cabbage, but that mayo sauce was sinfully tasty. Just got back from picking up my lunch order. The egg drop soup is average - nothing special or out of the ordinary. *Extremely Hot* though, this stuff is scalding. My beef with vegetables lunch special ($6.95) included the entrée, choice of rice, and three sides (I skipped the soup and chose two egg rolls and a crab Rangoon). There was a generous amount of lean beef, and a good variety of vegetables. Every table had containers of tasty sweet and sour sauce, and a very spicy mustard. The service was fast and friendly, while the dining area was comfortable and clean with instrumental background music. Very nice! read more

I don't eat a lot of Chinese but this is a place I like. Food is good I always get the shrimp fried rice extra shrimp spicy and it's always good. The egg rolls and crab Rangoon are winners with me. Customer service is pretty good too. If you like Chinese this is worth a try. read more

I usually utilize Chinese palace for takeout. I am quite pleased with the option to order and pay online which makes it very easy and convenient to use. I have never had a problem with their take-out service. Their dine-in service is a bit slow, but the servers are usually polite and engaging. What I really like about them is that their vegetables are fresh and crispy. You know how sometimes you get broccoli with a dish and it just feels almost lifeless? I'm guessing these guys do a quick saute, where they can impart the flavor of the sauces and spices w/o turning the veggies into mush. The food is pretty standard fare, but to me, their common dishes taste just a bit better than everyone else. I've been happy with their bean curd (tofu), hot and sour soup, general's chicken, kung pao chicken, beef dishes, etc. I do wish their fried rice had more vegetables (peas/carrots) in it though. I think it's worth checking out. I prefer the take out, but dine in is not a bad option. read more

Price: Affordable, their lunch menu is great! Usually comes with soup and egg roll or crab Rangoon. Portions are much smaller for lunch but always fresh to order. Lunch prices range from $7-8. Dinner price for general Taos chicken, comes with a pint of rice is about $12 with tax. Can be shared between two people. Overall: Still my fav place for Chinese take out. This is one of those places that you wouldn't spare a second glance from the outside, but the food is great, everyone who works there is very friendly, and the prices are quite reasonable. The meal starts with a complimentary plate of cucumber spears that have been marinated in something sweet and faintly vinegary. The entrees remind me a little of P.F. Chang's in that they tend to have sweet sauces. They have all of the "old school" Chinese entrees and some special ones like "Mark's Chicken" which is a honey-glazed, breaded sesame chicken with no vegetables (perfect for our friend who never lets a veggie touch his lips). The check comes with the usual fortune cookies and a piece of mocha cake for each diner. (The cake is a new development - they used to bring sliced oranges.) read more

A friend and I have dinner here pretty often before heading downtown for our symphony or opera performances! Chinese Palace is a good place to keep in mind if you're looking for a pleasant place to eat in JoCo before an event in town -- the restaurant is right by the U.S. 69 freeway entrance on 119th Street so you can zip downtown after dinner in 15 minutes or so without having to rush! Service is invariably quick, so your meal will arrive quickly and you won't need to worry about delays getting to your performance. See my earlier reviews and others for comments about the food. It's primarily the usual Cantonese fare with some other popular Hunan, Szechuan and Mandarin dishes, but it's always been flavorful and well-prepared (as good as the food in any typical Chinese restaurant in San Francisco) and if there's something you particularly crave that's not on the menu they will make it for you, like most Chinese restaurants, as long as they have the ingredients in the kitchen. Chinese Palace is also excellent if you're famished at dinnertime, because the "family dinner" for 2 or more is a greatvalue at $13.95 or so per person -- it includes an extremely generous appetizer assortment on a lazy-susan with a flaming brazier in the center on which you grill the skewered satay-style beef that's part of the selection. It also includes egg rolls, crab rangoon, fried chicken drumettes, barbeque ribs, fried shrimp, etc., followed by an entree for each person from anything on the menu priced at $10.95 or less. You won't leave hungry, and if there are leftovers they are very good about bringing boxes to take them home. The meal also comes with their usual welcome plate of slightly sweet-sour marinated cucumber spears and ends with a refreshing cut orange and a fortune cookie. As with many other things, I have very strong opinions about where I go for Chinese food. I'll try any place that seems reputable, but I always go back to my favorites. After trying Chinese Palace a couple of weeks ago, I have to admit that I finally have something to be envious of my JoCo friends for having. (keep this on the DL or I may never hear the end of it) A friend had told me for months that this was the only place he would go for Chinese food and as soon as he could get me to travel to the burbs, he jumped at the chance to show me why. What impressed me the most? The value. Many Asian restaurants run lunch specials, but to get soup, crab rangoon AND an egg roll, rice, plus a much larger than expected main entree (with shrimp, mind you) for $7 seemed a bit more extraordinary than special. We were both thrilled with the quality of the food we were given and shared what we ordered since I had branched out and tried something new. My shrimp dish was labeled as having a bite to it but honestly, the spice was really good. Medium for sure, but not a scary kind of hot. His was his usual, the beef and broccoli, and it was just as good if not better than any place I've found here in the city for delivery or carryout. We were both thrilled that our veggies were nice and crisp and the meat not chewy or overcooked. We received the perfect amount of food so no food coma was induced but we both left sufficiently stuffed. I now know where I will go for Chinese next time I'm in the OP area and have recommended this place to friends already. I wasn't able to look at the dinner menu but with lunch prices so reasonable for such good quality, I'm sure the dinner prices/selection will not disappoint. read more

This is the best Chinese food I have had in years! The portions are large and everything we had was amazing! We are new to the area and we didn't want to cook Christmas dinner so we ventured out to find someplace to eat. The parking lot was packed and I can see why. We decided to share everything among our entire table (we had out of town guests) and everyone enjoyed every bit of it. They brought some complimentary marinated cucumbers (YUM!) to our table while we waited for our appetizers. I thought that was a nice touch. For our appetizers we had egg rolls, crab rangoons, and steamed dumplings. They all were really good and all the dipping sauces were excellent! Only one person complained that the egg roll was a bit greasy, but they weren't too bad. For the entrees we had chicken lo mein, sweet and sour chicken, and mongolian beef. Everything was incredible. The chicken lo mein had such wonderful seasoning and was not greasy which is a nice change from what I am used too. The sweet and sour chicken was also really good and included all the big chunks of veggies that so many places are now leaving out. The mongolian beef was also really good.
