Found this bnb randomly while searching for places to eat this area. Took a chance and booked directly with them. Decided on the St. JOHN SUITE on the 3rd floor. There is another room on the 3rd floor. St. John Suite is very spacious with 2 balconies, 2 closets, double vanities, one large walk in shower with 2 shower heads on opposite ends. The common area on the first floor is very charming (mostly). Kinda made me feel like I was in a movie, the floor/stairs creak, the decor can make you feel creeped out. There's on site parking which was wonderful but the entrance can be easily missed in the dark. There are "linen closets" in the hallways if you need more towels and toiletries. There is a washer dryer in the basement which was convenient. read more

Beautiful guest house in a quiet neighborhood. Comfortable and clean. We had an upstairs king room for myself and my traveling companion. Claw foot tub was gorgeous! Water was HOT! Loved it so much. This the fourth time I've stayed at the Evermore House and I've also stayed at their companion house, the Bluebird Inn. Both are SO clean, comfortable, well appointed, charming, conveniently located to restaurants and shops, and all around delightful. I recommend these places to all my friends. In fact, for my son's wedding my whole family stayed here and we all loved it. If you need parking, stay at the Evermore. If you can't easily climb stairs take the Tillimook room. read more

After a disappointing first night elsewhere in Portland, I was fortunate enough to find an opening at Evermore through Airbnb. Immediately I was impressed at how thorough and professional communication was. Arriving and checking in were a breeze, and my space in the gorgeously-maintained and comfortably furnished guest house was just what I needed. Ample, free, off-street parking in the back was also a wonderful bonus. This property says that it blends elements of a boutique hotel, traditional B&B, and a home, and it does all that. Laundry facilities are available for use, and refrigerators with food are labeled for the morning. There's even a spot for guests to store their own food, if they want or need to! I was so happy to have found this place, and sad to have to leave. If my travels take me to Portland again, you beat believe I know exactly where I'm going to stay! read more

If you're looking for the Ultimate Bed and Breakfast experience, with the gourmet chef and Laura Ashley linen.. this is not the place. Think of this as a place where a friend of a friend lent you their house key, told you to just let yourself in, sleep there, clean up after yourself, and then let yourself out... This place really is a Bed and a Breakfast (do it yourself breakfast). No frills, no housekeeping. Here's the Pro and Con of choosing this Guesthouse. Pros - Inexpensive, compared to the hotels in downtown Portland. $135 to $150 a night. - Quiet, and not too far from downtown (15-29 min by car) - No tv (but that could be a deal breaker for some) - Free wifi and a computer in the common area - Free parking - Close to great eateries off Division Street Cons - No welcome host, never bumped into any staff member once. Our greeting was a note on the bed, with "instructions" on what do to. Never even saw someone to check out. - No gourmet breakfast. So if you think this is Napa Valley, think again. It's DIY breakfast with boxes of cereals on the shelf, help yourself to bagels, scones, muffins in the fridge, and also in the fridge are cartons of yogurt, milk, juice, peanut butter, cream cheese and butter. Not sure how fresh the bread and pastries were either. - No room housekeeping. They don't make your bed, and if you need fresh towels, there's a linen closet on the 2nd floor where you can help yourself. - No tv (may be deal breaker or blessing) The location is not that accessible to downtown unless you take a bus or car. We had a car and it took 15 minutes to cross over to the downtown area. However, there's a lot of restaurants within a 15-20 minutes walking distance, including the famous Portland Food Carts off Division Street... saving you a trip going downtown. They have a big Costco size shampoo in the shower, and a small bar of soap. It's best if you BYO soap and shampoo. Overall its a comfortable place. If the host had just made his presence known once, even to greet us at breakfast, or when we checked out, I would give this 4 solid stars. This is my 4th time here and I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Portland. I've stayed downtown before and it's awful. SE Portland is the place to hang and Evermore is the place to stay while hanging. Somehow, they just get it right. The rooms, breakfast and fresh coffee, everything is done well. All the rooms are nice, however I'm partial to the 3rd floor suite. Double balcony and a ball and claw tub make this room spectacular. The bathroom also has a large double sized shower. read more

First stop on our babymoon PNW road trip. Very old historic home that has been transformed into a B&B. We had the third floor suite which was HUGE! Checking in was strange as there were no employees and the directions for finding our room were a little vague. Great location for us and parking was not an issue at all. Only compliant here is for a B&B I expected breakfast in the morning and we were saddened to find out that they only offered muffins or fruit as breakfast. When in Portland, this is my go to B&B. From the moment you walk in, there are two gorgeous stained glass pieces adorning the stairs up. My favorite room is the third floor suite which is huge! There are two separate private balconies, a sofa, and a large modern bathroom that included dual shower heads and a claw foot tub which was perfect for some R&R in the B&B :) The communal kitchen has some good healthy breakfast options and a plush french door under cabinet refrigerator. My only gripe was not having an iron to use during my stay (believe me I combed my room and communal area to try and find one!) The innkeepers are pretty hands off so I couldn't flag them down to request one either- a bummer that impacted my wardrobe choices during my stay for sure. Clearly, this is one small hiccup in the vast splendor that is the Evermore. Sky is the limit if they outfitted their rooms with an iron and some toiletries (forgot mine and had no other recourse but to walk to the market and stock up). Look forward to my next stay there in May! read more

I absolutely loved this guesthouse. I've never stayed in a guesthouse or B&B before but figured it'd be the perfect place to stay for an authentic Portland experience. My husband and I stayed four nights in the third floor suite and would absolutely stay in this guesthouse again. The room was large, open, and clean. There were two private balconies and a very large modern bathroom. I enjoyed a good soak in the claw-foot tub and the large shower had two shower heads. The room also had a mini fridge which was very convenient. The communal areas were clean and comfortable. The only non-perfect part of my stay was fighting through the other guests for coffee each morning which I was only able to successfully do one of the four days. There is one slow coffee pot for the whole house which was full the entire time we were there. I suggest either a second coffee pot or something like a Keurig machine. However, this was only a tiny thing and doesn't affect my overall opinion of the guesthouse. I highly recommend! read more

We live in Salem -but Portland was the place to go for a special occasion...so we did our research and booked two nights at the Evermore Inn for my 70th birthday celebration. We had the third floor suite - and it was fantastic! Huge room, with two private balconies -balconies are a prerequisite for us. The bed was super comfy, shabby chic elegance decor throughout, quiet, romantic. BUT -the bathroom...ooIala ! lt's massive ~ with a very modern take on the claw-footed tub for two (two can fit quite nicely),- double sinks with marble vanities, with lots of drawers and cabinets, and the glassed-in shower with double rain shower heads -again -two fit quite nicely. The kitchen is well-fitted out and a lovely front room with space for dining with others or just the two of you. The continental breakfast selection is fairly robust,. with real glassware and plates -nicely done. All in keeping with the spirit of old-world ambience that just made you feel cozy, romantic, and sophisticated. We loved that they had closets throughout that provided extra towels, robes, pillows and other essentials. Tiffany was happy to oblige us in dropping off our luggage before it was time to check in -and what with car break-ins rampant right now in the city -we did not want to chance leaving valuables in the car. The off-street parking is a huge perk. We rarely saw anyone about, which was exactly how we wanted it -resorts with lots of strangers is not our thing.... the Evermore was....in every way. We will be back... even if it's just for a night in one of the smaller rooms. Highly recommended for a romantic getaway! read more

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed here - of course I'm hesitant to leave a review in case it becomes too popular to get a room when we need one, but anyway. I'm laughing at some of these other reviews where the reviewer is so butthurt because they never saw a staff member. Dudes, my husband and I are introverts. We don't want to see anybody, socialize with strangers, or support air bnb so it's perfect for us. Not happy that it takes 25 minutes by bus to get downtown? The true beauty of Portland lies in the neighborhoods outside of downtown. In fact we have almost zero desire to go anywhere on that side off the river save 2nd Avenue Records, but I digress. Evermore is situated on the edge of the Clinton/Division neighborhood, which is lovely and walkable to anything you might want to eat. Pro tip: don't want to deal with stairs, rent the first floor room, which also seems a little more private and quiet. read more

I stayed here one night when I had a quick getaway in Portland. I wish I had taken more pictures but all the pictures they show here are pretty accurate. I wish I would've had more time to enjoy the beautiful property. The property was kept really clean. There is an outside area with patio furniture you can spend a nice day in. There are magazines and a computer in the living room area (also had a fireplace). The kitchen was kept with muffins and simple breakfast items (continental breakfast). There was a freezer down in the basement (we were too scared to go down there, keep in mind this is a historic home). The parking area on the side of the home feels safe and it's roomy (glad they had it). There is also a big front porch. We definitely had our privacy and only saw a couple of people in passing. Check in and Check Out was really easy. Area: It's in the Clinton/ Division area of Portland, which is a nice and pretty area. A lot of these houses are huge and the streets look like something out of a movie (just beautiful). It definitely feels safe. We could've easily took a Lyft over to the more popular part of Division St where it was full of bars and restaurants (close to Bagdad Theater as well) but since we had to go to bed early we didn't. We walked a block away and had a couple of drinks at Victory Bar. Not many bars to chose from, at least that close in proximity. Again it felt safe to walk around there at night. Also, it's an easy drive to Tov, a great place for coffee (cute double decker bus) which is next to Fried Egg, I'm in Love for a delicious breakfast sandwich. I would definitely stay here again! read more

I stayed here for 3 nights in the 2nd floor bay window room / suite and I was very satisfied with my stay. My king sized bed was comfortable with great, fresh sheets. My room also had a neat looking and useful changing room that connects to an old style bathroom, equipped with a claw foot tub. Everything was clean and the decor was unique and interesting. I didn't use any of the common space since I was out much of the time, but the space looked inviting. If you're looking for a full-service B&B, this is not for you. I didn't see any of the owners or staff the whole time and breakfast was just continental (delicious bagels, muffins, pastries, and coffee). However, I found this pleasant because I just came and went and I liked the peace and quiet. My favorite thing about the Evermore Guesthouse is the location. It's very close to a few very attractive districts, including Hawthorne, Clinton, and Richmond, and not far from Downtown and the ABC District, among others. It's also only a couple blocks away from SE Division Street which has many dining and bar options. It's in a neighborhood that is safe enough to walk at night, and I took big advantage of this. My plan everyday was to take my car and visit further districts during the day, but just walk to restaurants and bars at night so I didn't have to worry about driving late at night in a city I'm not familiar with or in case I've had a few drinks. If I were to visit Portland again, I would definitely stay here if possible. read more

Perfect place to stay in Portland. We loved the "no overbearing host" aspect of this guesthouse. There was plenty of choices as far as the self serve continental breakfast. Having onsite parking is a plus in this neighborhood as well. The building itself is gorgeous. Unique stained glass in many windows, well cared for woodwork and wood floors. Beautiful home and space. There for 4 nights and saw a couple of people. Don't expect to be catered to here. A text telling you how to get in the house and where to find your key is the extent of the hospitality. Basic Costco muffins, yogurt, milk and bananas for breakfast. Access to use the washer, dryer and kitchen stove was great. My biggest issue I had with this place was the street NOISE. I had the 2nd floor bay room with nice big windows which were also the rooms downfall. Also had the 3rd floor skylight...both rooms were cool and I love the bathtubs but....If you like sleeping with the window cracked BRING your EARPLUGS! The house is on Cesar Chavez Blvd. You might as well be sleeping in the middle of Interstate 5 with the constant traffic noise! I did like the easy walking access to Hawthorne district and Mt Tabor Park. I guess most of Portland is over populated. Luckily there are peaceful places still to retreat to.... read more

Epic win with this place! The house is beautiful and well-maintained. Clean room, nice common areas and good location. About a 20 minute bus ride from downtown and situated in a nice little neighborhood with a variety of bars, restaurants and shops. Set back from a not-so-busy street, so it's incredibly quiet and really feels like you're staying in a country cabin out in the woods. The staff are like elves, you never really see them, but the continental breakfast that comes included with the room magically appears each morning. read more

What a gem! We stayed for one night in the Third Floor Skylight room, and would stay again! The "check in" was super easy, they send a code via email for the front door code, and your room key is in the door with a note on the bed - I enjoyed the hand's off approach. The house is beautiful, the room was the perfect temperature and a good size. We took advantage of some breakfast snacks and coffee, and took them back up to our room. The area has so many fun, delicious, awesome things within walking distance. It was a great value, I wish would could have stayed longer! read more

The positives: A beautiful Arts and Crafts home, with a bus nearby that goes into downtown. Takes about 25 minutes. There are some good restaurants within walking distance. Free parking. Good air conditioning. The negatives: there are several large steps leading up to the entrance and no handrails. The shower is inside a high claw foot tub; no handrail on opposite wall: scary. The wall to wall carpet in our suite was stretched out and I stumbled on it, could have tripped and fell. The soap dish in the shower - realized too late it was either deteriorated or had crud on it. Difficult to get medium water temperature in shower. It seems fine when you initially run it from the bath spout but it doesn't seem to get up to the shower well when you turn that on. No housekeeping in the room. Nobody to help with luggage and lots of steps. Very little contact with staff. They set Coffee up the day before and you have to press the brew button to get it going if you are the first guest down. Didn't see many guests in two nights we were there. See Michelle R's review in this - she said it was like a friend of a friend loaned you their key and told you to let yourself in and out and clean up after yourself. There is a phone number you can call. While we are not the type that relies endlessly on a concierge or make lots of chit chat with a b&b owner, the absence of a host created an unwelcome vacuum. There were two big cakeplates with breads and pastries for breakfast - it seemed like most were the same ones from check in to check out for a two night stay;they added some croissants but it's all cold bec kept in fridge. Bananas had started to get overripe - lots of brown on them. No bottled or ice water available in a heat wave - I guess they figure you can use tap water. There is ice in the basement. Who wants to go down to a basement in a strange house in a new city? read more

I'm writing this review to warn any out-of-town brides to not get ready for your wedding here. After you unsuccessfully look for a well-lit area with an appropriate amount of counter/desk/table space for setting up products, you'll realize the only viable option is the dining room on the first floor. You'll trek back down and mid-way through your beauty service a manager will tell you to leave. Your makeup artist will politely explain that it's your wedding day, there are no other guests around, and even if they come, there is another table in the living area, that they will clean everything well, but the manager will prioritize the rules over your needs and force you to hike back up to the dim third floor with zero tables. I rarely experience this surprisingly poor level of customer service. read more

We seek out B&B's; Evermore Guesthouse is #40, so I write this from an experienced point of view. The Evermore is very welcoming and comfortable and the staff is very accommodating. Two suggestions for the 2nd Floor King Room: a headboard (there is none) and a safety grab bar on the wall beside the shower/tub. We particularly appreciated the use of the washer/dryer -- clean clothes while traveling is such a plus! We noted, with great pleasure, that there are no televisions in the house...so if you need to see your favorite programs, seek other lodging. Otherwise, you will be treated to peace and quiet, and clean, comfortable lodging! Meanwhile...there's Portland to discover! Don't miss the International Rose Test Garden or the Japanese Garden. Evermore Guesthouse is great if you are looking to stay at a big house that has a colonial feel. It is located in the southeast part of the city. The appearance and smell has a colonial, older feel. I stayed at the 2nd Floor Suite and I had plenty of room with a balcony. The one drawback is that there is no television. However, the internet is very strong (make sure to connect to the second floor network) so I just watched my television shows the next morning. There is also a complimentary breakfast. It looked edible but I did not eat any of it. There is too much amazing food nearby for me to waste room. The Evermore Guesthouse is also less expensive than name brand hotels. Moreover, it provides its own parking lot. Its sister Guesthouse, Bluebird Guesthouse, is a lot cheaper than the Evermore Guesthouse. However, it does not have its own parking lot and is apparently not as nice (e.g. shared bathroom). Regardless, I highly recommend the Evermore Guesthouse if you want to try something different at a better price than a name brand hotel. I also had trouble finding it at first. The sign is small. It is on the intersection of Southeast Clinton Street and SE Cesar E Chavez Boulevard with entrances on both streets. I love this place!! We are staying in the 3rd floor skylight room and I was so surprised upon arriving, it exceeded our expectations! It is so spacious and so charming. Private bath is a hugh plus with a bathtub and hot water! The bed is so comfortable and we even have a little balcony with two chairs overlooking the street. I actually feel like I am in my own home and am now so jealous of this 1909 gem. We ran into one of the staff and she was very sweet and made us feel at home. Getting in and out of the house is a breeze, no matter what time of day you may be arriving. Parking and wifi is free, and parking is plentiful! Very close (driving or bike distance) to Powell's books and other must sees including Bread and Ink, great little restaurant. Wish we were staying longer, but we will be back! read more

We were so pleased with this place! We had the first floor apartment which had a nice little kitchen and it's own door so you could come and go without even having to go through the common areas and a little patio with a table and chairs. And there's AC which was very important since we were visiting during a heat wave! I know some people like that whole social scene of a B&B but that's not my thing at all. But I prefer being in a house in a neighborhood versus a big impersonal hotel, so this guesthouse really fit the bill! They even had some gluten free pastries among the other continental breakfast choices. It's a short walk from anything you might need -lots of restaurants, bars, a Rite Aid. It's also just very cute to look at, not super fussy and full of antiques or anything, just very attractive and comfortable. read more

My husband and I stayed in the 3rd floor suite for 2 days and it was amazing! We were on a road trip from Anaheim, CA to Mount Vernon, WA to attend my high school reunion and stopped here on our way home. The room was very spacious and the bathroom was a dream. There are 2 sets of french doors that open onto little patios and having them both open creates a nice breeze. There is a decent size window above the clawfoot tub that would be perfect to watch a storm from while taking a bubble bath. The only unfortunate part is that we were sick by the time we arrived so we didn't really leave our room. Since our room was so perfect we didn't mind and it was a great relaxing place to stay. Obviously I fell very much in love with this house and would have happily lived there for the rest of my life. There were a couple things I wasn't 100% happy about but they were minor. The kitchen is very small and would be had to use if there were other people there at the time (which we never encountered). As others have said, you do not see the owners which can be good and bad. I would like to know there is someone I could have contacted had there been a problem with my room. Mid morning our second day someone did walk into our room while we were lounging about. Apparently there was a mix up and she thought we were only staying 1 night but she apologized and it was fine. Last of all was the food. It says on their site that you prepare you own food which we were fine with. They do have a plate of muffins and such that you are free to take from. When I read that I assumed it would be common types but all the baked goods were from some healthy hipster type place and not my taste. This being Portland I should have figured but it was fine. Overall we both loved this place and would be happy to stay here again. We would recommend it to anybody we know and hope to return sometime in the future, maybe when there are some good thunder and lightning or even a snow storm. read more

Easy to get to by public transportation, and located in a fantastic area for quaint walks and great dining. The rooms were clean and well maintained, and the innkeepers were basically invisible. We stayed here in the 3rd floor skylight room for 4 nights. It was such an awesome room! It was an awesome house in general... I peeked my head into the unoccupied rooms just because I was curious! Like most others have said, you'll probably never see the staff, but all the more reason to stay there! They were there when we had a question, but they want to make you feel like the house is your own and you aren't intruding. Yes, the breakfast lacked at bit, but I didn't mind because we were exploring and I'd rather go out and find a cute cafe. This was hands-down my favorite B&B stay in Portland, and in my top 3 of all time (and that is saying something!). The Evermore is gorgeous, spacious, charming, and clean. The kitchen is well-stocked with help-yourself continental breakfast food and any cooking implements you might need. My room was amazing. I stayed in the 3rd floor skylight room, and I practically wanted to move in. Waking up every day to the light of the sunrise filtering in through the skylight was amazing. I had a private patio hidden from view by the trees, with tables and chairs. There is also a full bathroom with a clawfoot tub--don't ask me why women love clawfoot tubs, but we do!-- multiple storage spaces, a loveseat, and a desk. The location is convenient: not more than 15-20 minutes from pretty much anywhere else in Portland. The neighborhood is safe and walkable, with plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, and music venues in any direction. I plan on staying here again whenever I'm back in Portland! read more

I originally wanted to stay at the Bluebird which has the same ownership and seems better known (or at least better Yelped.) I'm really glad that the nicer rooms there were booked. Stayed at Evermore 3 nights in the third floor suite and it was pretty damn perfect. The two person shower and giant tub put the Four Seasons to shame (although you can't watch TV in the bathroom mirror, or anywhere else for that matter, which was a relief for a few days.) Obviously, being a B&B there isn't room service or a gym (maybe there was actually, I never looked or asked), but there was a nicely stocked kitchen 24 hours a day and when we needed a cab there was someone to ask. That someone was a very nice young woman whose name escapes me. I know people fetishize not seeing the staff at a B&B so I will say absolutely that you are unlikely to run into the staff at Evermore. However, they are there, working hard, and since I took advantage of the awesome common areas (hard wood, comfortable chairs and couches, excellent soft lighting, stained glass everywhere) to read in the mornings/early afternoons and guzzle free coffee with my free bagels and muffins while my travel companion got in her standard 14 hours of beauty sleep, I can confirm from actual casual encounters that the staff is charming and professional enough for upper-management track consideration at any four or five star hotel. Really, just a great house to make your own for a few days. The neighborhood was cool as well and exactly what I hoped for as a first time visitor who knew nothing beyond Portlandia and that the Trailblazers sucks. read more
