Surprisingly one of the best and cleanest hotels I've been in. Even some of the top notch Vegas hotels could use some advice from these guys. Room was basic but only needed it to sleep. Bathroom was immaculate which is hard to find. We stayed in the original room 140 with a window facing west into the street. No need for a gym as you can walk to amazing locations near the hotel. Jupiter is just a Motel 6 with added whimsy. My room had a dank, moldy odor that persisted the entire stay. It was very noticeable every time I returned. There were also bugs on the sheets when I arrived. When I checked out and mentioned these issues they didn't offer anything except "oh we'll look into that". They didn't even ask how my stay was, which is a red flag. Unless you get a crazy deal ($100 or less a night) then don't bother. read more

Don't be fooled, the Jupiter Hotel is nothing more than a rock bottom budget hotel with splashy wallpaper. If parking is even available, it's another 30 bucks a day. No appliances (fridge/microwave etc) in room either unless you count a sketchy hair dryer. In fact, not even a lobby in this hotel, you have to cross the street to their other hotel. Pros: - Rooms were comfortable and no complaints there. - Clean bathrooms with tubs. - They apparently give you a free condom on your nightstand :P Cons: - Parking is first come first serve even for the ones you buy. By the time we got there, the paid parking was all taken. They said we can park on the street overnight for free as long as move the car before the parking meter maids come. It worked out fine but one of the reasons we chose this place was to get their garage parking for the piece of mind. - There was a huge party happening right outside our room until 10:30. Music blasting and lights flashing. They did turn off the music after quiet hours but if you were trying to hang out in your room peacefully before that, you were out of luck. read more

The staff was actually super nice, and the place is walkable to restaurants, bars and a few coffee shops. There's no gym, AC barely works, no free water or mini fridge. They really need to renovate. I just hosted an event at this hotel and I can not say enough good things! The staff are fantastic. We could just stop there because in a city where no one has "staff" this hotel is fully staffed with fantastic people! Housekeeping was awesome, and no one told me because of covid they couldn't straighten my room, which seems to be the way it is in most hotels now. Coffee, water, great decks and little nooks to hang out in. Excellent location! The lobby restaurant, Hey Love, is BEYOND, you may not want to go anywhere else. From the event side their sales team was awesome! Eden, Jake, Josh...all over the top! They checked in on us often and were super flexible with requests. Kind, responsive, and helpful! I live in Portland, and can tell you this is not how most hotels and restaurants are right now. Most are really short staffed, so it is hard to get that personal attention you want to feel when you spend money to travel or eat out. Rooms are clean, have great amenities! Things can get a bit noisy at night-because it is a fun spot for people to hang out in......I brought ear plugs & a melatonin, and didn't hear a thing, but a few of my guests mentioned their floors had it going on late! Terrible service from the reception desk.. Entered the hotel to inquire about the parking situation as I felt unsafe. The staff at the reception just stared at me, no welcome or hello. I asked about my reservation and they indicated they didn't have accommodations for my reservation at this location, they would need to send me across the street to their other location. I asked about the parking and again just stared at me. I said I was going to cancel as the vide didn't feel good both inside and outside the hotel. Affordable and hip, this clean and centrally-located hotel is fun and a welcome respite from our camping-road trip. I was warned that the party below might keep me up til the wee hours of the morning but it didnt. The front desk staff are very accommodating and are super friendly. You might miss these guys though coz they have check-in-by-text as well as check-out. Street parking is an exercise in logic and problem solving, if you're into that type of thing. It's great to see this part of Oregon. Very fun! read more

We stayed at the older side of Jupiter Hotel last night after heading home from Oregon to Washington. I had stayed here once before, but over 15 years ago. I remember thinking it was super cool. Same experience as I had 15+ years ago. It's a really cool place and we will definitely stay here again! The rooms are basic, but super fun and funky. You can see the room wall mural in one of my pics. They give you chalk to write on your front door. I love the room darkening shade!!! I could actually sleep! Probably my favorite thing. The bathroom was nice, although basic, everything worked well and they have shampoo, conditioner, and body wash available. The beds were comfortable, also! There are tons of restaurants and bars to walk to. I wish we had had more time. The staff was also very pleasant. I can't really say anything negative, except I don't know how easy it is to find parking. We lucked out and got a space underground in their parking garage, but there is so much going on around the building, that I'm not totally sure about the rest of the parking situation. When I checked in, they gave me a phone # to text if I had any questions and I did! They wrote me right back. I totally want to give this place 5 stars and for what we needed, it really was, but I often want to stay more than one night and there are no refrigerators or microwaves in the rooms- at least in the older building. I stumbled on this place because I was driving by and needed a hotel. It's walking distance from a couple of cool bars and restaurants and has beautiful rooms. The bar and restaurant downstairs is delicious with beautiful decor. I met a wonderful bartender from California that was so sweet he wrote me a hand written note of all the parks and coffee shops he recommended I checkout during my stay. The next morning, I hung out in the common areas and they were really wonderful to work in throughout the day. The ambiance, decor and staff are all top Notch here. I highly recommend !! read more

JUPITER X hotel -- unremarkable and below average hotel stay and after many years I will not return again -- the front desk staff seemed disconnected, often staring at phones, no smiles or greetings when you come in/out, and generally a feeling of burn-out and just NOT helpful. If you start to complain to the desk you may get a pulse from them as I found out on my last day. - I get that you are a COOL hotel. But being cool is about being fun, unique, personable, and friendly -- not a "too cool for school and not interested in helping you cause I have other better things to do" hotel... - With this hotel opening in 2017-2018, it's pretty clear that even in the nicest rooms they need an update/renovation. - Could not get parking underground. even when requested and confirmed 1 week in advance and given a pass at checkin (it was full for an event and that was my issue to fix) - Cannot provide kettle in room even with multiple requests -- a kettle costs $20 -- I like to brew my own coffee, that's all. - check out was also a bust as they refused to put my minbar items on my invoice and had already charged my card. Only after I complained did they then do right. Summary: (1) Be proactive; give service BEFORE people complain, not because they complain. (2) Smile; as a front desk agent you are an ambassador to both the hotel property and the City of Portland. (3) Care; or at least make it look like you care about the people that pay over 300$ a night to stay under your roof read more

This hotel was very nice and the staff was wonderful. The Jupiter hotel and the Jupiter NEXT are connected but very different. I booked the Jupiter Hotel and was happy but moved to the Jupiter NEXT the second night. Jupiter hotel was super clean but missing some amenities like a mini fridge, mini bar and things like that. It has a basic hotel bathroom and was more of a hipster vibe. It was a little nerve racking staying there as 2 young women because it was open like stairs from the outside which I didn't realize till i got there. The staff did assure us that there was a over night security team that was amazing, we had no problems there at all but still felt safer moving over to the Jupiter NEXT for our other night. The Jupiter NEXT hotel is much more like any other hotel they had the amenities the other place didn't have (mini fridge, mini bar, complementary shower stuff). This room was nice and only a $60 upgrade, the shower was much nice and the room was a little bigger. There was a lot of really cool out door seating and fun little areas at both hotels. Doug Fir was a super cool and chill lounge that was fun, the restaurant Hey Love was okay and convenient but would say skip and go to the surrounding restaurants in the area instead. Like I said above the staff was just amazing they moved our reservation to the Jupiter NEXT over the phone in 5 min. They had a phone number you could text and they would respond almost immediately, this had to be the nicest hotel staff i've ever meet just absolutely AMAZING. 5 stars to the hotel itself and the staff! We got the Dream Suite and it was perfect for my husband, toddler, baby and I! It was like a mid-century one bedroom apartment. Only thing I wish it had was a coffee machine, although they do offer coffee from 7AM-11AM at the lounge for guests in the same parking lot. Loved that they have the minibar STOCKED! We came during the snowstorm (didn't realize it would be like that when we booked) so everything was closed. Thankfully they did have water, wine, beer, seltzer, mixed nuts, candy, and more to munch on. I also loved that they had a pack and play for my infant to sleep in so that was perfect! I was in town for a wedding and I got a chance to see the new rooms at Jupiter Next right across the street. The Next is obviously going to be a newer hotel so there's a difference for sure but I liked that our room wasn't in a busy hallway and was tucked away. read more

We didn't expect much with amenities, all we really cared about was whether we felt safe and it was clean which it was. This hotel was a true gem find for our Portland trip, I had called maybe three weeks in advance and they were doing a buy two nights get an additional night free deal. Andrew, one of the workers there was extremely accommodating and answered all my questions. As soon as we arrived we were immediately greeted by Andrew (hi and thanks if you're reading this!) and he made sure we had everything we needed. This hotel is clean, low key, offers free coffee in the morning with oat milk (!) and the staff was always friendly greeting us coming in and out. Parking is not an issue and we were able to find street parking on all four days of our stay. Offers a beautiful view of the city also which is always a plus. Not directly downtown but if you have a car it is easy access and central to everything you would want to visit (food, bars, boba). Quirky, fun, hip, and unique hotel with good proximity to downtown Portland without the downtown price tag. Though, not recommended for the business travelers. We chose the Jupiter simply because it was the closest thing to downtown Portland that fell within my company's travel spend policy. Checking out the reviews, I thought I found a diamond in the rough. WelI, I wasn't wrong on the value. The Jupiter is definitely affordable, clean, and should come with a couple call-outs before you stay here. Adjacent to the Doug Fir Lounge, many rooms will echo with the din of socializing patrons on the outdoor patio. If you aren't keen to ambient noise, be sure to ask for a room that's further away from the venue. On the plus side, the patio and bar is a nice place to meet up with a few friends and you can join right in with the sound. The doors are literally chalkboards and the rooms themselves are have enough space for a bed, small table, and bathroom. There really isn't much margin in between any of those, so it feels like you're staying in a living room with a bed. Truly not bad if you're just looking for a place to sleep. I wasn't a fan of the loud AC unit, though it did somewhat drown out the sounds from outside. I would be remiss to not mention the branded condom on the bedside table. I'm used to seeing a Gideon bible, so this was a first! Again, this place is quirky and fun. I would have probably liked it better if I was traveling for pleasure, with my wife, and/or some friends. Due to my need to remain sober and be up early for meetings, it was downer to not be able to take full advantage of this hotel. Bottom line: The Jupiter Hotel is not a bad place to stay if you know what it is. Read through several reviews and decide if it's going to fit your travel expectations. We stayed at the Jupiter on the recommendation of friends for 4 nights. When we drove up on Burnside, it was somewhat confusing because the valet was on the next block at the bustling Jupiter NEXT hotel, but when we checked in, the valet was able to park our car outside our room so that we could unload our luggage. I can understand why they won't let people park their own cars as the driveway is extremely narrow with only a few spots. We only used the valet for 2 weekday nights because street parking is free on the weekends and not too hard to find if you read the rules on the signs. The office at he Jupiter is not staffed at night, so you have to go across the street to the NEXT if you need anything or check-in/out at an odd hour. As you can tell, the rooms are arranged like a 2 floor motor inn with rooms opening to the outside along the central driveway. There is no elevator, so we opted for the ground floor. Luckily, we did not have the noisy nightclub experience as others did because we had the room furthest in the corner. I don't like the door opening to the outside because every time the door opens, all the leaves from the bamboo annoyingly blow into the room. Upon entering, we were greeted by the giant Marilyn Monroe head on the back wall, which we got used to and ignored. The room is lacking in many amenities we're used to having at other hotels. There is no dresser or closet to store clothes except for a steel wall rack in the corner, a few hangers and 2 small wall mounted drawers. One of the mounting screws on the rack had come off and I was afraid it was going to come down, but fortunately it didn't. Other non-utility amenities: Jupiter branded condoms and chalk to write on the walls. One morning I walked by another room where someone had scrawled in chalk, "Rick is HOT!" on the blackboard door. A gym, a pool and breakfast in the morning would have served me way better, but is not happening here. Luckily there is a coffee shop across the street. No in-room refrigerator, microwave or coffee maker are offered. There is a wall mounted flat screen TV which we made good use of though. Lighting in the room is very poor and was very dark most of the time. I didn't want to open the shades because the large window faces the street. On the plus side, the beds are comfortable and water pressure in the shower is almost fire hose level. The style of the Jupiter is definitely not for us or geared towards a family experience. If you're looking for a place to party and crash, get up at noon with a hangover, this hotel is for you. Looking back, I would have been a lot happier if we stayed at the Embassy Suites across the river and enjoyed a nice hot breakfast instead of having Marilyn staring at me all night. read more

Hotel was decently clean. Unfriendly staff over the phone. No sign stating to not draw on the CHALKBOARD walls which led to a $150 fine (this was the same price as the room was for the night). No one told me at check in that the walls were off limits and they provide and talk about drawing on the door. Manager would not issue a refund even though there was no signage stating the walls were not off limits. There are better options in the area that aren't a scam. read more

My husband and I chose this hotel based on its location and price. So glad we did! We stayed in Jupiter NEXT with a view of the city and paid extra to get an earlier check in. Hotel is within walking distance to all sorts of eateries. There is garage parking available for a charge but we opted to park on the street of which there is ample parking available. Our room was 605 and offered a great city view! So glad I chose that type of room. Room was super clean and minimal. The sink is located in the hotel room as opposed to where the toilet and shower is. I enjoyed that feature so I could get ready while my husband showered. But the bathroom door was one of those sliding doors that don't allow for complete privacy. I will say there is very little storage space so if you are staying more than just a couple days, it may be cramped for you and your belongings. Hotel is very cool and hip, I've never stayed anywhere that had CBD offered as part of their "mini bar"! Also I will say the prices they charge for the snacks and drinks in the room are very reasonable! Most hotels up charge a crazy amount so this was refreshing to see. Overall a great stay and I would absolutely stay here again. Last note...I noticed a charge of $25 on my credit card and I called the front desk to inquire where it came from. The gentleman I spoke with (I wish I remembered his name!) Explained it was for a charger that housekeeping stated was missing from the room but I told him I never used the charger and he was quick to remove the charge from my bill, no questions asked. I couldn't sleep with the noise. It was bad. I went to the lobby to ask why I wasn't warned of this matter. There was no answer. The rooms at the Jupiter are very different from their neighboring Jupiter Next, which is across the street. The rooms at the Jupiter are NO DIFFERENT THAN A MOTEL 6. But Motel 6 had free on site parking. To me that was the only difference. No pool, no hot tub. No mini fridge in the room. Pretty basic. If you come to visit Portland, there are MANY MORE options with better prices. Always expect a fee for onsite parking though. Wherever you go. I am truly shocked by all of the negative reviews about the Jupiter on here, and I'm glad they did not deter me from booking a room. The staff at both the hotel and the Doug Fir were charming, welcoming, and down to earth. Upon entering, the concierge gave us the skinny on how this place works and encouraged us to text them and let them know ASAP if there were any problems or disturbances. The room was ready for us early, clean and tastefully decorated to add character. The "extras" (amenities you select when booking the room) were a nice touch - we selected the bottle of champagne and the fantasy adult package and I recommend both for vacationing couples. Jupiter is located not far off from downtown Portland (a 10 minute walk across the bridge under the big sparkly sign or $7 cab ride). But if I didn't have other plans, I would have had fun hanging out here, going to the bar or checking out the show at the venue underground. Grateful for the free wifi all over the premises and the recycling bins in the room! I would not recommend this place for families with kids, traveling business professionals, or the sober. Customer service was terrible... there actually wasn't any! Construction going on and no notification about it. I would never stay there again. The website presents this place as much nicer than it actually is. I'll preface my review with the fact that I booked my stay with points through American Express. So I didn't pay for the room and didn't book directly with the hotel. I'm betting that when this place first opened it was a fun hipster-y kind of motel with a new spin on things. But now it seems that the maintenance hasn't kept up with time and the rooms have seen better days. My guess is that the ownership was taking as much of the profits from this place as possible in order to build Jupiter Next across the street. After lunch on arrival day we came to check-in. The guy behind the desk was great. He got me all set up in no time. He gave me the choice of a main floor or second floor room and gave me a quick run down of the place. My friend and I didn't have time to actually go to the room as we had somewhere else to be so we came back later to get settled in. When we got back around dinner time we went to the room. Turns out that they gave us a single bed room instead of a two bed unit. When I went back to the front desk a different person was working. I explained the issue to which the employee then proceeded to blame me. I explained that I didn't actually book the room myself and used points. It didn't matter. For some reason she felt that I needed a lecture. She told me how I used some concierge website I had never heard of to book the room and how the hotel's terminology on what a double room means doesn't mean a two bed unit, but two people staying in a room. She also told me that it would be an additional $5 a night to get the room I wanted and made that seem like it was going to be a huge deal. After a few minutes of being made to feel like an idiot, I got moved to the room I needed. We ended up in the "Spiderman" room you see on the website. Seems like a fun theme, but unfortunately the room is starting to show it's age. The Spiderman wall paper is starting to peel. The blinds are tattered, weren't the right size to begin with, and are installed backward (I install blinds for a living). The bathroom was fine, but the drain in the shower was a little slow. The floor is hard. They've obviously just put down commercial carpet tile to the concrete floor. There is no parking on site like there normally is at a motel. In their remodel they've put in a bar and event space which has taken up all of the areas where parking should be. The few remaining spots seem to now be reserved for valet usage at Jupiter Next across the street, which you are allowed to use. At check-in they also warned us not to park around the corner. I didn't ask why. Upon check-out the first guy I dealt with was working again. He seemed surprised when he brought up my account that there were additional charges for a room "upgrade". I explained the situation of what happened a few nights before and he waived the additional charges without question. He said it looked like the booking person for Amex (or their agent) made a mistake and I shouldn't have had to pay for someone else's mistake. Let's just say I was prepared not to like this place. I read all the reviews on here and was frankly scared I wouldn't get any sleep the night we spent here. The YS and went to a concert at the Doug Fir and he was thinking it would get out late and we wouldn't want to drive home. Plus, he wanted to have a few drinks while watching the the show and we all know driving drunk is not cool or Yelp Elite behavior. :) He made arrangements to stay at the Jupiter and requested a quieter room as it's mentioned on their site. He got a deal on the room because he reserved it in advance and paid in advance. We got their early as we know the garage does not have enough space for all the rooms. So, first come first serve. Eight dollars a night to park is cheap in Portland, downtown hotels are normally upwards of $20 a night. I was a little worried when I saw our room was right on the corner directly across from the dining room of the Doug Fir. I thought how quiet can that be? So, all of the above said we went to the concert on Friday night and had a great time. Then we walked across the parking lot and went upstairs. I immediately fell asleep but the YS wanted to play some music on his Ipod and they had speakers in the room set up just for that. So, he was doing that last I knew. When I woke up around 4AM (I had went to bed around midnight) there was music blaring and I thought, they weren't kidding this place is noisy. Then I realized he had fallen asleep and the Ipod was still playing. So, it was noisy but only because of the YS. Haha. Luckily we were on the end so I don't think anyone else heard. The walls are thin but it wasn't bad I didn't think. We brought our own wine as we didn't want to be tempted to drink the $20 bottles in the room. They had bottles of Voss water available for purchase in the room. They were in glass bottles which was nice. They had current Portland Monthly and Dwell magazines so I helped myself to those. The bath products were nice too. I took the leftovers with us. I would definitely use this as an after hours location for concert goers. Quick, easy and comfortable. read more

We stayed on a Wednesday and Thursday night, two beds in our room and we chose to stay on the "chill side". The room was adorable decorated, everything was very clean and fresh. The front desk guest service was spectacular as well! I wish our room had had a microwave and refrigerator but those are only minor details. So the hotel room itself was pretty basic and small but it was very clean. What really stands out about this place to me was the outstanding customer service. You have to valet park unless you want to try and find street parking. We found the fee ($29 I think?) to be fair because the car was safe overnight and we had help with our luggage from a super nice staff member. We were in town for a concert and ended up drinking far too much. So, we called to request a late check out at about 10 am and they were extremely accommodating. We paid a little extra (again - money well spent) and got to leave at 2 pm. The heavy drinking also came along with some injuries including a black eye and a broken foot. Staff came to our rescue and brought our car up to the room, helped us load our luggage and even got us bags of ice to put on the swollen foot. They didn't even make us show our poor faces in the lobby to check out. It honestly felt like they cared about our hungover plight and for that reason alone I'd come back to this hotel. Thank you Jupiter hotel for accommodating us four for our annual friend's trip. Although I know you were previously a Motel 6, you were good for what it was worth. And for that, I can't complain. We opted for the double "chill" side of the room which was the rooms away from the Doug Fir Lounge. Doug Fir Lounge gets pretty noisy especially in the late evenings which could possibly interfere with your sleep if you decide to stay on the "bar" side. The room itself was ookay. The bed was fine, but the pillows were a no-no. They were flat and stacking them didn't really help. Even with adequate sleep, I could feel the quality lacked. In addition, the room was way too hot so we had no choice but to turn on the air conditioning. The placement of the system was poor as it directly faced the beds. In addition, it was SUPER loud. Enough. How about the positives? + Two free condoms provided + The bathroom was pretty decent + Very close by to the night life + Chalk board room Jupiter is a very hipster place.
