We planned to send our 23-year-old Honda to SoCal with our daughter. A few days before the trip, the "check engine" light lit up. Unsure whether this was a "change your oil" message or a "this is bad, get help fast" message", we took it to Evert. They gave the vehicle a safety check, found the reason for the light (more serious than an oil change), and recommended we do not get the needed service because it would cost more than the car is worth. Absolutely the best service I've ever received at any automotive place ever. The shop itself is cozy and homely, and feels very friendly from the get-go. Rhonda was extremely accommodating, friendly, and kind. She was understanding of my situation, explained thoroughly what my options were, and tried extremely hard to save me money wherever possible. Initially, I would have been skeptical of this sort of goodwill if it were coming from a corporation or franchise, but after spending several hours here and overhearing other customers and phone calls, it became apparent that while they might be losing a bit of revenue by being so honest and trying so earnestly for their customers, they're the epitome of the type of business that you become a repeat customer to, more than making up for that small revenue loss in the long term. That being said, I likely wont ever feel the need again to walk into a strange shop with some big sketchy dude trying to strong arm me into buying a catalytic converter, 4 new tires, and a flux capacitor. This is one of the better automotive companies I've ever been to. Their integrity is refreshing. They could have gotten me for a bunch of useless repairs that in the end may or may not have resolved my issues. I appreciate Rhonda's straight-forward approach. While she wasn't all negative, she was forthright telling me what she would do if she were in my position: "Honey, I'd give it a hug, and a bath and let it go." Some people may be offended by this kind of upfront statement. It's not like I have money for a new vehicle, but I sure don't want to dump a bunch of what I DO HAVE into a vehicle that likely will not even last. This could have been a nightmare for me...but thanks to Rhonda and the good mechanics at Evert, it worked out perfectly. I broke down with mystery problems that seemed to have something to do with the ignition. I was stranded 500 miles from home and my own mechanic. Evert was recommended by family in the local area, so I put my trust in them to diagnose my problem, and hopefully get me back on the road. They took their time troubleshooting...then rechecking...and in the end discovered it was a loose ground wire but it was happening intermittently. They charged me only $100, (for lots of diagnostic work) and I was greatly relieved. I would have easily believed any number of things they could have told me was wrong...or have paid for some "trial and error" repairs - I was truly at the mercy of their honesty in this situation. In my mind, I had already figured it was a $600+ problem. I recommend them heartily. Honesty, hard work and willingness to do the job right are 3 values in a mechanic that make the difference. read more
