Tim Trojan sold this shop at the end of 2024 to an employee named Jason. This was a huge mistake that has affected his former customers. Trojan was a personable owner liked by the whole community, and a very knowledgeable mechanic who would go out of his way to help customers. The new owner has just put in family members to work for him, that know even less about fixing cars then he does. I recently took a truck in to have the driver door window fixed. After the employees fixed the window, they gave me my truck back with the inside of the door panel hanging loose. They did not even bother to tack it back on when they finished the job. This went from a 5 star auto repair shop to a 1 star shop in one short ownership change. It's too bad really because Mr. Trojan was really a nice guy. I dropped my car off on a Thursday. I was told it would be looked at on Friday. I had to be the one to call to get status updates. I was quoted one price and when I was able to pick my car up a week later, the price was significantly higher. I was told it was because the price of the part was more expensive and when I was shown the invoice, he covered up his price and only showed the price he charged. I always try to support the small business owner as I could have paid much less at a larger automotive chain. I felt like the right thing to do was to honor the price quoted. I've come to K-B Motors for decades when Tim owned the shop as he provided amazing service. This was my first time back with the new owner and sadly it was a less-than-ideal encounter. The shop didn't do one of the services I asked for and then did another service I didn't ask for or approve of. We always used A Auto, which used to be in College Glen but moved down past 65th. It was a great, reliable, reasonable place for car repairs, until it was sold first of the year. Now they , and overcharge. They bid $179 to "diagnose" my check-engine, which I had already scanned to an O2 sensor heater. (You only need a $15 scanner!) Plus probably $250 or more to fix it. I called a few places, and $150-$180 diagnosis was the norm. But I call KB, and he says, "$155 to diagnose, and if it's the O2 sensor, that includes installation, unless we have to remove a bunch of stuff." That's more like it! It was 4 days to get an appointment, dropped today at 8 and done at 4! No upsell, only $155 labor plus $88 for the part (a good brand)! $259 out the door! Their shop rate is $150/hr. The owner, I missed his name, has been there 36 years. He kinda looks a little biker, with long hair and a gruff voice. But honest, and efficient. Thing is, an O2 sensor heater is self-diagnosed, because we know from the heater code that the wiring is good! So, charging for diagnosis plus install is a rip off. It may be par for the course elsewhere, but not at KB! They are our go-to place now! read more

Needing an oil change and wanting to try some place a little closer to home, I had heard about KB Motors from several neighbors. I called and made an appointment for a Friday morning. The staff were kind and honest about all of their prices; they only made recommendations for what was absolutely necessary. Besides an oil change, I ended up needing new air filters for my car. We always get scheduled for soon after we call, drop off is fast, we hear back from them a few hours later, repairs needed are explained and pick up is fast and easy. Very pleased with the work done by KB motors and the shop and business that Tim and his wife run. My mom's jeep needed an oil change and a look-over to make sure it's good to drive long distance--as in cross country from California to Florida. Tim was willing to take my payment over the phone (since I'm not local to Sacramento and my mom dropped the vehicle off for the work), and was willing to work with me and coordinate the work even though I wasn't the one bringing the vehicle in. When everything was finished, Tim talked me through the condition of the car and provided an assessment on its ability to make a cross country drive. K-B put some bushings in some arms of my old '66 Skylark for me. They did it quickly, at a fair price, and did an excellent job. They were pleasant to work with as well. In addition, there credit card machine was out of order that week, and although they didn't know me and had only my phone number, they trusted me to come back the following week to pay them (which I gladly did). I'm that dummy that always takes her car to the dealership to have it serviced. Thanks to a dear friend's recommendation to take my vehicle to K-B Motors, I will no longer be that dum-dum with an empty wallet. Tim was friendly, honest, replaced my breaks and spark plugs in a timely manner. His prices were fair and didn't deviate from his quote. He even did me a huge favor by fixing my front bumper that popped out due to poor parallel parking on my part. He was also kind and patient enough to leave his shop open after hours for twenty minutes so that I could pick up my car. (It was the first rainy day of the year and the road was jam-packed with buffoons.) My only bit of constructive criticism would be to expand their hours; maybe open one day on the weekend or slightly extend hours in the a.m. and p.m. for those of us coming from downtown. read more

I had called and came in same day. To follow up on what the dealerships recommendations were to repair a leaking oil pan. KB motors couldn't find anything wrong with my oil pan. Offered to put my car back on the lifts to show me. He also very explained to me what may be going on with my car loosing oil and gave me suggestions. A woman responsible for auto repairs often rings: Ka-Ching ($$$) for many; however, I have found an honest repair shop that is willing to work on my 1992 Econoline Conversion Van and the prices are very reasonable. My van is not easy to work on and I appreciate the fact the K-B Motors is known for Truck maintenance and repair. I had a leak and it was noticable on the garage floor. Tim told me it was the screws on the transmission, they were not tight enough. We've been sending our autos to KB Motors since Ken Kerfoot was the owner, more than 20 years. Now the new owner, Tim has continued the honest mechanic tradition. They ask what your problem is, diagnose it, and make the repairs you only need. Their shop is a converted gas station however it is a refreshing change from the high pressure of auto dealers or other name shops that add and charge extra unnecessary items. K-B is around the corner from my house and has been for as long as I can remember. When it came time for an oil change, I thought I'd finally go and check this place out. When I called to make an appt, no one answered the phone so I left a message. Within 5 minutes, the owner called me back and we set up an appt for the oil change. I totally forgot to ask how much the oil change was so my signif other was a bit perturbed with me. I figured it can't be more than 50 bucks. It was $45 which is what you pay at a Jiffylube or Goodyear for the premium oil change. That's fine, it's a local business and the location is convenient for me so I wanted to give him a chance. I'm glad I did because the owner and his staff were super nice & the oil change was great! When I went to get my car, I walked up to K-B while my son rode his little Spidey bike. After I squared up my bill, the owner... I wanna say his name is "Tom", pulled my car up to the service bay and loaded my son's bike into the back of my suv. Simple and kind service.
