I came to this truck on Saturday at Autzen Stadium with my husband. I'm always a bit leery of trying Hawaiian food here. One of our good friends is Hawaiian and therefore quite opinionated on the subject. Finding authentic and delicious Hawaiian food is a legit challenge. We walked up to the truck and were immediately greeted by the cashier. He was friendly and helpful. The first thing I noticed was his accent. He sounded exactly like the Hawaiian friend I mentioned earlier. So I thought this was a good sign. Both him and the other employee who gave us our food were super friendly and kind. That vibe and energy always makes me smile. My husband ordered the garlic chicken and I ordered teriyaki beef. They only had three options on the menu, and the third being pulled pork. Both plates came with rice and macaroni salad. Everything was delicious. Portions seemed a tad small for the price, but I really didn't care. I was full, and it was delicious. I text our friend about this business, and he said it is hands down THE best Hawaiian food in town. Which I definitely agree with. It is a small family run business, and I love it. Our friend said they've scaled back to only doing events like the spring game where we found them and catering, which makes me super sad. Because I would totally go out of my way to visit them and eat there again. I'd become a regular real quick. I miss Kine Grindz so much. They used to have a truck a few days a week near Prince Pucklers and I lived on campus so it was within walking distance. My sophomofe year (before COVID), me and my college friends would go probably every other week at least which was definitely a highlight for that week. The best Hawaiian food hands-down with friendly staff/owners. A simple food truck hides some tasty treats like saimin, lomi-lomi salmon, pork lau lau, poke, and the like. Served with a small and tasty bit of chocolate mochi - usually a spongy Japanese rice cake pounded to soft oblivion - everything is served in generous portions. All not disappointing and easily destroying other so-called Hawaiian restaurants in the area. A simple white board and Facebook post shows the menu; a daily-rotating display of island delicacies. If you can hunt them down, then you'll find yourself with some truly authentic and tasty Hawaiian food. There is a small seating area with a heat lamp if necessary, but all good is boxed to-go. The food here is delicious! I got the beef teriyaki and the chicken katsu (on special). They were cooking the katsu fresh, so I had to wait about 5-10 minutes, and it was well worth it! It was crispy and delicious! The beef teriyaki was amazing, too--a really great blend of sweet and salty. A lot of Hawaaiian places can go too much into the sweet, which I don't like as much, so I really appreciated how well-balanced the beef was. Another thing to mention is that the staff was incredibly kind, offering suggestions and working with me to create a plate that had everything I wanted. After a long wait of making myself go over to the campus area... especially for Every Day Kine Grindz, my son & I trekked from the westside over to give it a go. Parking could be a pain and might have to find street parking. The truck stands out with it it light green color. We were greeted by a nice young man, who was every energetic and enthusiastic of the food and was great to talk to while waiting for food to come. We ordered the chicken teriyaki and Kahlua pork with all mac. I have never tried spam, so we also gave the musubi a try. We did have to wait some time for the chicken to be ready, for the wait we were offered another musubi, awesome customer service. The musubi was surprisingly awesome and I am glad my first venture into spam was a good experience, otherwise it was doomed from ever being on my plate again. The chicken teriyaki was also good, only thing was kahlua pork was a bit disappointing, because mostly had salt profile, but no smoke. The mac was amazing, one of the top ones I have eaten. Sometimes we choose a business not just for the "goods" but the service. I can't say enough about the awesome crew at EDKG! I was there once, yes just once and the food and service were top notch. Keep in mind this is a food cart so they see A LOT of people. Fast forward 5 months and I am at Aloha Friday(Whirled Pies), I approach the catering line to ask a question and to my surprise it's the crew from EDKG and they totally remembered me!! Happened to walk up from downwind and the smell of the food cooking on the grill took me straight back to Hawaii, hanging out in my friends backyard, despite the chilly temps. While I hate to be the first person to give this place less than five stars, I'm going to anyway. Five stars would mean it was the Bee's Knees in every category, and I'm just not willing to say that about this place. I was told it would be around 20 minutes to get my food, so I went to the convenience store across the street for a couple of sodas to go with our meal. As I mentioned, I got the loco moco and I ordered a combo plate of kalua pork and teriyaki chicken for my husband, and they were both worth waiting for on a cold, cold evening. The pork was a teeny bit salty and the rice was just OK, but overall I really liked our meal and we both stuffed ourselves silly. But it is just a food truck, and it's getting awfully cold out there and I'm not hardy enough to eat outside on a picnic table at this time of night. Speaking of which, if the words "Every Day" are in the name of your business, why is it only open 3 nights a week? And why only after dark? I also wish I was more "in the know" because I saw only 4 items available on the posted menu (plus 1 combo meal), and no specials, but people who came up after I did asked for and received garlic chicken, which was listed nowhere. So, if you want to eat here and you want some of the other items that aren't on the menu, ask if they have it or not. I would have liked to try the spam musubi, but I didn't think to ask and I'm sorry I didn't. Hawaiian food is supposed to be cheap, plentiful and not very varied. You get a bunch of protein and carbs with little or no vegetation, and deal with the fallout in the bathroom the next day. The truck was already besieged with college kids when we arrived shortly after their 6 pm opening, so we had a bit of a wait. The proprietors are still learning their way around apparently, because they quickly fell "in the weeds," as restaurant people say, and had to call for more help. They had a table set up nearby, but it was too cold for outside dining that night, so we brought it home. My combo plate had teriyaki chicken and kalua pork with potato/macaroni salad and rice. DLW opted for loco moco with the same sides. Everything was freshly prepared and tasty, although the loco moco was better. Chicken was rather dry and pork overly salty in the combo.
