I had such a bad experience at Evelina's Red Dresser. The lady that checked me out was so non amiable, and condescending. There's an area on the checkout counter to leave the items you want to purchase. I happen to take that item and bring it to the register for purchase.And the first thing she did was look back at that area, and smirk. I guess I was supposed to leave it there and she was supposed to bring it herself. But I did not remember since it was the second time I had gone to this store.But it's the way she made me feel is what upsets me the most. There was little if any conversation that took place between us, but yet, with the person that she checked out right before me, she made it a point to have a descent, meaningful conversation. Normally I like Antique Stores but not so fond of Consignment/second hand stores. I am not sure why I differentiate, they are much the same thing just with 50 years of ownership thrown in. Evilena's is the rare exception for me - it is super clean and everything is displayed beautifully. It smells nice also which believe me, is not always true for second hand stores. The items for sale here are high quality and in style. I felt like they were items people received as gifts and did not want or things they ordered new and then they just did not work out. The items they accept are in very good shape and are not items people have bought at Goodwill stores or garage sales and then tried to resell at a higher price. This is a classy place! With all these good qualities there is, naturally, a higher price for their items. Many of the items have a price and then subsequent reductions listed with the date it will hit that price. Had every item had that, I would have rated this a 5 star place. One chest that attracted my eye I felt was priced very high for second hand (348.00) and no built in reduction price. I feel the reduction price should be on each piece - hey why buy someone else's castoffs if you are not going to get a bargain? One additional plus - If you are a baby boomer or a fan of Barbra, the song "Second Hand Rose, I'm second hand Rose..." will play in your head the whole time you are here! read more

Went in there w clean folded clothes mostly sweaters; was told must b on hangers. Ok I missed that. Made another appt w same items and they didn't take any of it. It's troubling because I've seen worse for sale there. Went again after washing and ironing some nice clothes and again they took nothing. Same issue I look at some of the clothes there and some are very worn looking and priced too high. Why bother buying when you can get new w a coupon at Kohl's or JCP! I don't understand how they can be so picky yet sell crap. I'm done going there. They are not the same from when they first started out. read more

I have never consigned anything at this location before so I cannot speak on behalf of experience selling here. I will say though, that as a buyer, I really do enjoy this place. They seem to keep up with the trends pretty well and all of their stuff is in good condition. Shopping here over the course of a few months I can say that I have got some truly awesome rustic decorative pieces for my home here at very reasonable prices! The staff is a hit or miss. I've had days where the ladies are very nice to me, and other days where they seem rather blah. Nothing to the point where I would be deterred from shopping here though. They have a fine selection of home decor as well as clothing, jewelry and shoes. Whenever I get the chance I love stopping in here and see what new items they have. I do wish that the area had more consignment and antique stores. I'm happy to have at least this one. Their stuff is always of good quality. Would recommend at least giving it a look through if you enjoy these kinds of places. :) read more

Over priced and rude to consignors. When you consign you are treated like your items are not worthy. The employee with the short hair that does consignment intake is snooty and has no right to be. As a shopper plan on not being greeted when you walk in or acknowledged. The owner needs to reevaluate her staff, they are hurting your business and ultimately your customers. read more

In December, I went on the Frankfort house walk and saw the home that belonged to the owners of Evilena's Red Dresser. Not only was it the cutest house I had ever seen, but also it served as inspiration for my house. Once I saw that she flip-flopped her living and dining room, I had to too. Duh, genius. Last weekend we took the plunge, and I recruited anyone within earshot to help us jockey the furniture around. It only took four different floor plans, but we finally got the living room set. However, even after putting in both table leaves, this left us with lots of space to fill in our dining room. And so, the story comes full circle. Today I stopped in Evilena's Red Dresser to see if they had any sideboards as nice as the ones in the owner's home. They did. I totally struck gold. There were quite a few to choose from, but after consulting with the design staff, I chose the eggplant sideboard with brass/gold hardware. Very attractive, reasonably priced and I was assured that eggplant is the hot color trend currently in all of the design magazines. Sweet! I was anxious to get the sideboard home, so I whipped my car into a closer parking spot and the entire staff helped load it into my car. I was a little short on space; three drawers weren't fitting. Don't worry, Design Consultant to the rescue again! Knowing that we lived only blocks apart, she offered to follow me home and drop off the three errant drawers. Amazing customer service! Successful shopping trip at a super cute store. Looking forward to pulling the rest of the room together and finding some eggplant inspired accessories. read more

I have consigned here many things. Every time I have been made to feel less than . I have brought many decorating items. One lady told me to bring to the back door and when I did a small blonde woman was so rude and told me I had to come to the front. I did this and then s other woman said " you should have brought them to the back" They pretend the are a "Christian" organization. Have never felt gods love in there. Will never return except to get my money for my brown Sam Edelman boots they picked out of 10 pair of shoes I brought. Who would pay 99 dollars for a used pair of coach boots when you can get them for that at the rack or outlet!!!!!! read more

This past week was my first time visiting Evilena's since last year. I was surprised to see SO much clothing, jewelry, and shoes. I saw a second hand Louis Vuitton bag in a glass case for over $1,000....this was never the type of store they used to be. I also question why not just buy a brand new Louis Vuitton if you're going to pay that for a second hand bag. They used to be very good about selling an abundance of different furniture and home decor at reasonable prices. Now the prices have SKYROCKETED! I see second hand items listed as a brand new full priced item that I could buy online or in store somewhere else. I bought several furniture pieces here in the past to furnish my first apartment, and now I see the price tag and look the other way. I'm disappointed to see this because I used to love going and finding great second hand furniture to repurpose. Their prices have gotten out of hand, and I'd much rather just buy brand new furniture somewhere else. read more

I drive past Evilena's quite often and always wanted to stop in. I brought my boyfriend with me since we had just got a new apartment and we have some space to fill. I was really impressed with the selection of chairs and dishes. Unfortunately, my boyfriend boyfriend is a little pickier than I am and all we ended up getting was a garbage can for our bedroom. They had some great stuff and I like that they post the discount dates and prices. The only drawback for me is the owner trying to draw people to her comedy show. I like comedy just as much as the next person, just was a little annoying. read more

If you are looking for a garage sale, keep driving. This store has beautiful consigned items as well as some new items. The price reflects the quality. I am a frequent shopper to Evelinas as well as a consigner. I have gotten some great deals on furniture as well as many name brand clothing items with the tags still on. I feel they specialize in refurbished and repurposed things which is a plus in my book. Often times they will show the store items on FB buy scanning the the room with a video. I love this and have gone on to buy a few things after seeing the video. The store is well staged to help you imagine the pieces in your home. Staff is friendly and ready to help you and they might even pray with you if needed. Highly recommend checking this place out. read more

I think the prices are reasonable and the staff is very knowledgeable when it comes to what they can and cannot sell, nearly everything I have consigned with has sold and they have also declined taking some of my items. Adore this store and all the ladies that work there. It's a great mix of used, new and vintagey pieces---women's clothing and furniture/home decorative accessories. What could be better than a boutique with the taste and style of a multitude of women. There is something for everyone here. I have consigned in the past with absolutely no problems. The delivery service, recommended by the store, for any of my large furniture pieces, is EXCELLENT! Melvin's prices are very fair and he is prompt to respond to your phone calls and pickup and delivery needs. Extremely dependable with a kind personality. 4/13/2020 I was a seller and a customer. My advise, don't bother going here for both. As a seller, if I brought in 15 items, 13 would be rejected. I would spend hours preparing my items, pack up the car, bring everything in and they would be rejected every time. And I had nice stuff. It would be so frustrating walking around and seeing the outdated (80's & 90's era) items they were selling! I dreaded dropping off items because the girls in the back don't greet you with a smile but with disregard & disrespect like you were intruding. It was weird! I got sick and tired of it, and not worth my time anymore. To me, employees attitudes are the reflection of the owner. And Jan, the owner, comes across as this sweet little old lady, and I think it is all for show because an owner that would actually have respect for her sellers would never allow her employees to treat us the way they do. The final straw for me was when I saw Jan treat a seller that came in and scolded her in her shop in front of customers. I couldn't believe it. It was a disgrace and I said no more! I am not going to support this place that doesn't give a crap about the very people they need to stay open! KARMA will eventually come knocking on her door because it seems like this is happening to alot of consignors. After majority of my items got declined (very time) I would walk around to see what they did accept and I would get so frustrated. In my opinion, now I see they have a website so the public can see the old, outdated, garage-sale quality of her stuff. Not worth the high price tag!! To many discount stores around TJ MAXX, HOMEGOODS, MARSHALLS, & TARGET! The only thing that keeps this place going is the furniture because people who buy consigment furniture refurbish it. I would never buy anything needing electricity. I got burned twice! I bought 2 lamps here and they lasted me 8 months. I bought a gold desk lamp, after a week it didn't work so I thought I needed to replace the bulb, well it took me forever to find a place that sold the special bulb and it was EXPENSIVE bulb. I changed it, nothing, it was broke! Threw it away! So, if I do want to find a unique piece I shop in Naperville, St. Charles, & a new local shop Cait's Cart! They have the best consignment shops, it is worth the drive. I still do sell consignment but I now go to the new local consignment shop, Cait's Cart in Mokena! It is enjoyable going in there and dropping your items off. They are so sweet and grateful to us consignors. We are remodeling our home so I have some great items to resell so I have had a lot of success at Cait's Cart! I highly recommend. Your time is precious, so my advise, stop wasting time with rejection at Evilenas and start experiencing success! Good Luck! read more

I was just at Evilena's Red Dresser II today for the first time, and the owner couldn't have been nicer! It's named for the owner's mother, which is a sweet touch. There is a furniture consignment store across the street (same owner, but just Evilena's Red Dress, without the "II") which has some nice reviews, but I noticed there weren't any reviews for her newest endeavor that has clothing and other smaller, decorative items. But it deserves a positive review all its own, so here you go: This place is really a gem, you can tell she has a flair for decorating, and a great eye. I was only looking for clothing, but you can find other treasures here, jewelry, small decoratives, etc. Even some furniture pieces, I think. I tried on a bunch of things, there are lots of well-curated pieces here. I ended up only getting one dress, but I will definitely be going back. The prices are very, very reasonable, you should not hesitate to visit this shop often if you live in the area. And if you don't and are just passing through, it's totally worth a visit! read more

I have been a customer of Evilena's since they opened the first location across the street. I would stop in at least once per week and always found something I had to have. Not only were the prices reasonable, but I was always given excellent customer service. Since expanding to the new location and adding many new employees I have lessened my visits to maybe once every 6 months or so and I rarely make a purchase. I have a background in retail and I can tell you they are over pricing the merchandise. I also have had issues with consigning. 7 Yrs ago I moved to a new home and consigned over 90% of my furniture and home accents and 100% sold! Since that time they have been turning away many items that are current and in perfect condition (home and clothing) with no explanation. It is hard to understand especially after seeing some of the items currently for sale in the store. Does it depend on the taste of the person checking your items that day? My biggest disappointment is the downgraded level of customer service. On my days of consignment and thrift store shopping I dress more on the casual side and it seems like the employees are judging the customers and the service they provide to the customer based on appearance. More often than not I am never acknowledged walking into or while shopping; but yet other well dressed women walk in and all of a sudden a different level of customer service is applied! Never judge a book by its cover is a rule in retail. I was previously a buyer for Nordstrom for 12 years and currently own my own business. These ladies need training in that department. It is a shame that I needed to write this review because I had such great experiences early on and the owner Jan was always so sweet and pleasant that it made me want to support her business. The shop couldn't exist without consignors and for that reason you'd think there would be customer care shown to consignors. I brought items in today and after standing in the back of store being completely ignored for about 10 mins I flagged down a "trained staff" member to ask what the process was for checking in the 15 items I brought in. With a somewhat aloof attitude she said I'd have to wait another 20 mins "or so". Strange attitude toward customer service for sure. I feel like I am asking them to do me a favor.
