I live right down the street from evolution, and was very excited at first to try it. I got the chicken sandwich. It was 8 dollars, and did not come with fries. The vegan chicken was good! But not totally amazing; I hate to compare but I am a much bigger fan of veggie grill's equivalent. Nonetheless, the convenience brought me back a second time. This time, I got the California burrito. I was told this was their most popular option, and it was certainly a food item I had been missing since becoming vegan. It was really, really bad. The fake meet was soggy, and the taste not at all believable. the fries were over cooked. The guacamole was sour. The wheat tortilla was generic, dry, Ralph's-esque. And it was hella expensive. After that I stayed away for a while. Recently, I was craving a warm meal and decided to go back. This time, I avoided the Mexican options and went for a tempeh mushroom Swiss burger. It came with a good amount of sauteed mushrooms and Daiya cheese. Pretty good, a bit salty, but still pretty good. I typically do not like tempeh, but the party was prepared well and certainly worked as a burger. I also got the chilli cheese fries. These are great. Definitely the best thing there, and for a slightly cheaper price. Overall, I would say, adequate vegan option. It's high prices, and early closing time makes it's appealing label as a fast food restaurant inaccurate, which is sad. Not my first choice, but cool if it's convenient. read more

Continues to be amazing. I live in La Jolla in the UTC area and I would regularly drive to downtown just to get some Evolution burgers. That's like a 30 minute drive, mostly by highway, but it is always worth it. Their "cheeseburger" with "beef" patty is so good it's unbelievable. I also like their vegan milk shakes. My only complaint is it is a bit pricy and driving down here is a pain, but their food is so good I just have to make do. read more

I've come to evolution many times prior to covid and had pleasant experiences. Today, was very unpleasant. Our burger was wrong.. we got a black bean instead of the vegan beef. The bread was so dry that it was crunchy and hard to chew. The lettuce was wilted.. we couldn't even finish it. We ordered animal style fries and they were drowned in the cheese.. like 70% cheese, 30% fries. The onions were odd.. Couldn't finish our food, ended up tossing a majority and leaving.. & afterwards we felt disgusting.. Sad to say, I won't be back. This place seems to have dropped the ball. read more

The menu has so many options, I had to ask twice to make sure their bacon cheese burgers with beef patties were vegan! The lady behind the register was so polite and patient, as I told her it was our first time there. I have been coming here since they open and looks like the menu is growing. They now offer three different patties for their burgers: tempeh, black been and soy. Shakes and drinks are hands down delicious and a bit pricey; Service is friendly; Unfortunately, today we ordered sweet potato fries and did not check until we got home and brought the food home. I did not order burnt fries which is disappointing. For the value of food and quality it is a bit over priced. They've got a drive-thru window and they've also got seating indoors (just a few seats), with an outdoor patio that seats many more with heaters for cold days. I am especially drawn to their burgers, with either the black bean patty made in house or the Angus beef patty made with soy. The mushroom Swiss is my favorite. If you get a chance make sure to order it with fries and spare the extra $.50 for the ranch dressing. This is absolutely delicious to me as a vegetarian. My fiancé eats meat but does love the chicken Cesar wrap. I usually order that and a chocolate almond shake. Fries usually aren't too great so I skip them. Do be prepared to wait a while if they are remotely busy. It also is quite pricey compared to typical fast food places so it's not really a place I'd eat at often based on that fact alone. I was so excited to try Evolution and I was sadly very disappointed. I think the restaurant is generally overpriced considering that it is vegan take out but what is worse is that their pricing is not transparent. They charge you for any sauce you get but do not disclose this. If you try to make a sandwich into a meal with fries and a drink but do not get a standard soda they still charge you the combo price but then also charge you the full price for the drink. This is pretty ridiculous considering that the fries are less than upgrading to a combo with a drink and fries. So they are actually overcharging you. On top of this, they do not give you a receipt so you can see what they actually charged you. Additionally, the service is horrible. I went through the drive through where I had to wait 10 minutes to order, after which I had to wait 15 minutes for them to make my order and walk it out to my car. Then when they brought it out to the car they forgot to give me the shakes I ordered. I of course did not notice right away because I was rushing to get back to my office due to how long it took just to get my food. So I had to drive back and wait another TEN MINUTES for two shakes they should have given me in the first place. There was no apology for messing up my order, or that I had to wait additional time for something they should have already made. And then of course by the time I got back to my office to finally eat my fries were soggy. Overall it was a huge disappointment. I will not go here again. If you want good vegan fast food go to Plant Power in Encinitas. The food is better, the pricing is better, the service is better, everything is better. read more

You can tell that it's different from a regular chocolate shake but it's not as heavy as a real one would be, it's actually quite refreshing, yet still very chocolatey! Their chili is my favorite thing on the menu. I actually ate it the day I got my wisdom teeth out because I wanted it so bad (don't judge me). Their chicken tenders are very comparable to real chicken, I love the chicken Caesar wrap. Wait times can sometimes be long, but they're a small place and we are in a pandemic, so be patient besties! If patience is not your thing, I highly recommend ordering online ahead of time and picking it up in the drive thru! Only negative I have is the strawberry goji smoothie.
