I LOVE THIS PLACE! TLDR: An amazing restaurant with incredible staff, gorgeous atmosphere and a wide variety of food (both vegan and non-vegan options). Came here on a whim for a brunch/lunch and was so pleasantly surprised. The menu had a wide variety of options, for food (appetizers and mains). There was also coffee and cocktails. We tried the monkey coffee (god tier), popcorn "chicken" (fire), the pan seared fettuccine (amazing) and the fried chicken ginger rice (non-vegan, they loved it). You can taste the quality and care put into every single thing they make, and if that wasn't already enough, the staff is so sweet and kind. Food came out pretty quick and this is a nice casual spot that can also be a really great date night. Please make sure to give them a try, def a new SD favorite. Remarkable truly!!!!

I have not reviewed this location in a long time... now they are serving meat .. now they are serving brunch and cocktails! Right up front, I can say that this is one of my favorite locations in San Diego and their food is always consistent. I don't know what kind of magic they put in their breading for the fried items but it is absolutely amazing! For my first time having brunch I did the orange chicken and waffles . The waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside , the chicken had their amazing breading and an orange flavor that was not too overpowering. There is a small side of fruit as well as an orange infused syrup. Overall, as usual, Grains has amazing and friendly employees, delicious food, and a vibe that is perfect for any day of the week. Parking may not be the best but I absolutely guarantee you will not regret stopping in.

Back again, since visiting San Diego, love, love, love this place. Fresh, cooked to order meals makes long working days more tolerable. Service as always professional and nice. Clean, airy restaurant.

OMG, their chicken menu is SOOO good! Tried their orange chicken, the chicken sandwich, and the breakfast quesadilla. Subbed the kale salad with the chicken sandwich. I have to describe the chicken sandwich because it's like no chicken sandwich I've had before. The texture is akin to a crab cake -- shredded chicken that's made creamy with a touch of veggies mixed in, so that every bite is a little different -- topped with melted cheese and sandwiched between crust-off, lightly-grilled but spongy bread. I'm also completely hooked on the coffee drinks. The Grains mocha (get it with oat milk) is lusciously creamy and has little melty bits of chocolate. The banana coffee is a creamy blend of banana cream and cocoa with a shot of coffee, a decadent mix of sweet, bitter, and fruity. Service is always friendly and neighborly, and the atmosphere is refined but cozy. The owners are great about keeping the decor classy but full of personality. With the new menu, it feels like a new restaurant; there are even more reasons to come by now!

Disclaimer I'm a meat eater so I might be easily impressed when I eat vegetarian/vegan food that is delicious which this all was! My wife and I ordered the tom kha, drunken angel, calamari, and holy shiitake. I would order them all again except for the tom kha, but that's cause I'm a tom yum guy and not to the fault of the restaurant. The workers were super friendly and helpful and the inside was warm and welcoming. They also allow dogs outside on the patio area which is where we sat. They have plenty of drinks options including kombucha, probiotic sodas, beers and wines. The holy shiitake and Calamari were fried mushrooms but hit different experiences. Calamari was light and fresh with a vinaigrette like dip. The shiitake was more "meaty" and with a sweet and sour like sauce. We enjoyed both and cleared both plates! They were fun to eat. Drunken angel was flavorful yet felt light and clean. The noodle could be a bit more al dente but still good. Already planning to take our vegetarian friends here.

Visited Grains on 2/28/25 with my mother and daughter. My friend gave me a gift card to use for my belated birthday dinner. FYI they only sell gift cards online unless you talk with Katia (owner) and she will make a gift card for you. Parking was very hard to find, it's all street parking and very dark. Not much street lights around that area. Once I entered, I was greeted by Katia and her staff. It was nicely decorated inside. Large open space, wooden tables and chairs, they have a patio area as well. You pay for your order first and take a number to your desired seating area. Our food came out super fast! We ordered a lot of stuff. We had salted pepper "calamari" mushroom, french fries, onion rings, holy shiitake, sweet rice and mango, pad thai, Panang curry and drunken angel. All of the food was delicious, it had great flavor. My least favorite was the drunken angel, something was missing from it. Overall, sweet staff. Great vegetarian dishes & nice place. They serve alcoholic beverages as well. I will definitely visit again.

THE REGULAR!!!!! If there is one spot I'm proud to say I'm a regular at it's grains, this place feels like a hidden gem but everyone in the neighborhood know about it. The never miss best popcorn chicken and the #1 best garlic Eddamme in town! They make vegan food taste like $1000 steak plates. We Love Grains!

We were searching for a good vegan, whole-food, plant-based spot in San Diego, and Grains looked promising. Unfortunately, it fell short for me. The restaurant was freezing inside--I had to keep my puffer jacket and hat on the entire time. I also prefer organic ingredients, but they have very little, including non-organic tofu. Ordering was easy and they were happy to answer any questions I had. The food was way too oily for my taste. My husband ordered the Pad Thai and thought it was okay but also on the oily side. They gave crazy copious amounts of noodles and very slim pickings for any veggies - I wouldn't go back, but if that's not a dealbreaker for you, give it a try and see what you think. See you on Yelp!

Grains is one of our favorite local spots. Great food and atmosphere with good beer and cider selection. I'm a big fan the popcorn cauliflower.

Not really impressed with the food here. The fries were ice cold and the Philly cheese sandwich was blend. The calamari needed to be seasoned. So disappointed. I spent $33 for water essentially They did reheat the fries. Ambiance was simple and clean. Restrooms were very clean.

I have been here a couple of times and enjoy the atmosphere. It is in a neighborhood so walkable for many residents which is a plus. The food is pretty good, I especially like their popcorn "chicken", and the staff are super nice.

We were seated in a shaded area with plenty of space around us, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and unhurried--perfect for actually enjoying good food and conversation. A huge part of what made our visit so memorable was our server, Carina. She struck that rare balance of being genuinely warm and personable while also staying incredibly attentive. She was outgoing without being overwhelming, kind in a way that felt natural, and had a great sense of humor that made us feel instantly at ease. Carina was also very knowledgeable about the menu and offered helpful suggestions without any pressure. She checked in at just the right moments and made sure we had everything we needed, all while keeping the vibe light and fun. You can tell she really cares about creating a good experience, and it shows. For food, I ordered the smash burger with onions and lettuce served in a corn tortilla, along with a side of jicama. The burger itself was flavorful and satisfying, with flavorful juiciness you want from a smash burger. The onions added a nice savory depth, while the lettuce gave it a fresh crunch that balanced everything out. Serving it in a corn tortilla was a great twist--it made the whole dish feel a bit lighter while still being super filling, and added a subtle, warm corn flavor that tied everything together really well. The jicama on the side was crisp, refreshing, and slightly sweet--an ideal contrast to the richness of the burger. My friend went with a salad and an IPA, and both were a hit. The salad looked fresh and well put together, and they couldn't stop talking about how good it tasted. The IPA paired perfectly--cold, crisp, and exactly what you'd want alongside a light but flavorful meal. Overall, everything just worked--the food, the atmosphere, and especially the service. Carina really elevated the experience and made us feel taken care of in a way that's hard to come by. I'll definitely be back.

ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE An open layout https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=FRumK_MW4Qyy7Dvrh2BcHw with the bar/order counter along one wall, many communal benches and tall tables inside and on the sidewalk patio, stools at the bar, brewing tanks in the background, and an interesting tractor https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=mOeDNVgE68ZDUrvuIS_c2w on display. Plenty of natural lighting entered through the large front windows and doors while an assortment of electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were several TVs throughout while I couldn't recall any background music. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL We enjoyed The Original 40 Brewing Co. and would plan another visit to try more of the over 20 beers on tap. The two beers I had were good but didn't stand out while the food was wonderful, the prices were a tad high, and the service was straightforward. Furry family members were allowed! I believed they had happy hour specials and almost certain nightly entertainment such as trivia, music, and more was available. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $55.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

How have I lived here my whole life and only just now popped into Bottlecraft? We came on a Friday…read morewhen they were doing tastings from a Sonoma winery (wish I remembered the name!). The guy pouring was so nice and knowledgeable. We liked the wine so much we grabbed a bottle and decided to drink it there. Added bonus: since it was one of the featured wines, the corkage was free. Bottlecraft is a bottle shop, bar, and cheese shop all in one small, perfectly curated space. They have a lovely outdoor seating area and some indoor seating as well. There are TVs inside, so we were able to catch some exciting March Madness moments while we hung out. When we paid, the host was super friendly and brought us a little ice bucket to keep our chilled wine cold, along with two glasses, and let us choose any table we wanted. They have a wide selection of beers on tap, plus tons of bottles and cans to go. I also appreciate the large section of canned mocktails and NA beers -- love seeing that. They carry wine, beer, vermouth, and more. In the back, tucked away, is Venissimo Cheese, which is amazing. You can order cheese plates, sandwiches, and other goodies to enjoy with your drinks. Definitely check out their website for upcoming events and their current tap list. Such a fun, easy, local spot -- I'll be back.

I've never been a big beer fan as I only really like sours and good ones are not easy to find…read more However, this place has a pretty fun collection of sour beers to try! It's especially nice that they have beers from a lot of small business breweries. My guy and I got a bunch of different beers to try and they've been a hit or miss overall. I haven't tried the cheese shop yet that they have inside, but it's a great concept and on my list to try!
