Did CrossFit, SPENGA (spin, strength, yoga), Lagree, and went back to traditional gym workouts as well. Nothing ever really satisfied the same. After moving back to Cali a couple years ago, same thing. Did Lagree for a long time and love it but I missed powerlifting and the satisfaction of lifting heavy in strength training. I grew tired of traditional gyms especially with how crowded they get here. So I started looking for small group or personal training places. Lo and behold, I find MFitness, less than a mile from my house too. MFitness is a small, intimate and still mighty space with state of the art equipment. Similar feel to that gym I loved and miss in Colorado but more personal training focused at a price that still feels affordable. You get a lot with it too such as the nutrition coaching app Mike uses. I started out once a week and moved to twice a week after a few months. I've referred friends and family like my mom - bought her class packs as gifts and it's really invaluable and priceless to see her get stronger and feel more stable on her feet after recovering from a stroke. And it's fun to workout along side her. Mike will give us each our own unique workout each session. There is also an option to add on private gym access so I can come and workout on my own as well during their business hours. Lots of high techy features here as well like a very cool water machine with sparkling, flavors, and electrolyte options. And fancy door access through your phone that also helps you feel safe if you're there working out alone. Mike is great and will adapt workouts to your needs on the fly. I seem to be perpetually nursing a minor injury, so he always works around my needs. He is so easy to talk to and genuinely cares about every single person who walks in his door. Stephani, his wife, is also so sweet to work with and manages operations and scheduling. They are a dynamic team and it feels so good to support such family oriented businesses like theirs. I'm so glad to have found this new gym home and would highly recommend it to anyone looking. The evidence behind strength training is countless and it doesn't matter your weight or health status - you WILL improve your health and longevity long term. It's really the best investment. Jordan was patient and understanding of where I was starting, while still knowing when to push me past my limits. What I appreciated most about Jordan is that he works with what you need rather than giving everyone the same type of workout. When The "Safer At Home" directive was issued to the city of Los Angeles to stop the spread of the…read morecoronavirus, I had just left my former gym and needed a new place to exercise. I was fortunate to have won a 90 day membership to 1A Fitness. Although all gyms in the city where ordered to close for in-person workouts, 1A Fitness was offering an at-home fitness challenge. The gym owner, Kevin was very proactive and adaptive to all the changes taking place during the quarantine. He instituted an online program that provided multiple classes to be taken via Zoom. Regardless of your home gym equipment, one could take part in the workouts. Kevin along with his fellow coaches divided up the 1A Fitness members and made sure to check in weekly on our progress. Kevin, Monica, & Justin made sure to see to it that we were all exercising daily, eating properly, hydrating, and getting enough sleep. As the pandemic wore on into the spring and summer, Kevin slowly re-opened the gym to accommodate up to four members in the gym at a time for one hour classes. Each member was given their own space & equipment to exercise with. As conditions improved, Kevin opened the parking lot for outdoor workouts with the same standard of each member having their own workout space and equipment. At all times, I always felt safe and confident in the environment that Kevin fostered. He made sure all members had properly cleaned equipment to work with and that the gym was kept clean too. I especially appreciated the fact that Kevin took the time to get to know me and my goals. I always felt confident in his instruction and the workouts he programmed. Although I was only a member for 3 months, I very much felt a part of the 1A Fitness community and look forward to when I can rejoin the gym again.

They really make sure that they don't just overload you with weight. They want to make sure that your form is correct and will size you up with their recommended weight. A typical workout at their gym will include a warm-up (that'll make you feel like it's already a workout...lol), a strength portion, and a metcon (metabolic conditioning). Classes will run about an hour. Another great thing to mention is that their classes have no more than 8 students per hour. They have classes at 6am, 7am, 8:30am, 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, and 7pm. Location is also great as it's located right in the heart of Downtown Arcadia! If you're looking for a gym in the area, definitely give this place a try!
