Love everything about this store! The furniture, the design advice and customer service, and Ditzy, the cutest French bulldog that lives here! The furniture is of high quality and has a designer feel without being over the top. The pieces fit beautifully and comfortably into your space, adding to the personality of the room, reflecting your style without looking like a DWR showroom. Working with Erez was wonderful. I love to decorate and design so have my own ideas; being able to bounce these ideas around with a designer to validate or suggest alternatives was incredibly helpful. Especially since the furniture is an investment, you don't want to make a mistake! White leather lounge chairs are what brought me to EWF Modern. After searching long and hard online, I finally found the chairs I thought would be perfect for a bump out reading nook with fabulous views. No way I would chance buying online without sitting in the chairs, seeing the workmanship, the quality of the leather and materials, and the visual size. Plus, I want to support our local businesses. The chairs are exactly what I had envisioned! While they don't offer delivery on these chairs, for a small fee they will assemble the chairs and I will ask a friend with an SUV to pick them up. I will be ordering soon and am already considering a coffee table and rug! Ditzy, the French bulldog, is adorable! We have been working with Erez at EWF on furnishing our home since August of 2020, and could not be happier. We wanted to work with a local company to furnish our home and initially I was nervous about the idea of buying some of our pieces that were more custom without having seen the finished product in person. But as our furniture arrived I felt like we'd made the right choice in working with EWF, the quality of the furniture they sell is super high end and we've essentially furnished our entire home with pieces from EWF. Every single piece is high quality. We've bought 3 sofas, a desk, 2 chairs, barstools, our entire bedroom and dining room and I am still constantly in awe of the quality as some of our final pieces arrive! In particular I LOVE the bed we bought, which we also purchased the mattress as well. We tried mattresses at 6 different places before deciding to get their Savvy Rest mattress. We were able to customize the softness/firmness of the foam for each side of the bed (I like a soft bed, my hubs does not) and I sleep like a literal baby on that mattress. EWF really takes the time to understand your personal taste. We have spent many a Saturday afternoon with Erez working on putting together orders for just the right pieces for our home and as it has all come together I can confidently say that if you are looking for a local business to work with that sells organic modern furniture you will be thrilled to work with EWF. read more

Fabulous! The moment I entered the store I knew I didn't want to leave without taking some of the gorgeous pieces they have with me. The folks who helped me were extremely knowledgeable about the product and they took into account my particular needs throughout. The store carries sustainable modern and contemporary pieces. I was able to pick the color for the leather chair and the staff helped coordinate it with my existing pieces. The staff was very patient and even let us bring some dining room chairs home to try out and see if we liked the style and fit. Absolute joke! Do your self a favor and stay away from this establishment. I made the awful mistake of purchasing a dining room table from here on 02/2016. I have had this table for a few months, it cracked and when I called EWF, Deana proceeded to tell me,that this crack is normal and that if I want to fix it I can hire someone to fix it..... I just spent almost $3000 on this table! Now, I have to spend more?! No customer service, EWF is disingenuous. read more

A completely unique offering--independent, design-oriented, modern but warm. You could easily outfit a whole house from this one store without being redundant or sacrificing a sense of your own individuality--each piece is rich and stands on its own but the mix is where the magic is. I've seem some of the penthouses in the Pearl that the owner, Renee, has staged as mini-showrooms of possibility and she has an amazing ability to combine the unexpected for a fresh, more modern version of "modern" (i.e. no cookie-cutter mid-century replicas here). This is true boutique shopping for those looking to update their home but also for anyone looking for an unusual gift (the home accessories and jewelry are hand-selected, affordable and fun). We found a light fixture here that we liked and were told that it was 'custom made' and therefore no returns. It would also take two weeks to make. It took three weeks for the store to get it (it languished for a week in their 'warehouse') only to learn it was the wrong fixture. We were then told that they had to check with the manufacturer to see if the correct fixture was in stock (after being first told it was a custom made fixture) and they would get back to us. 30 seconds on Google showed that this custom light fixture was, in fact, mass produced and available from Home Depot of all places (who honors returns if its damaged or doesn't work) and we got it in two weeks. We cancelled our order with EWF. It was only AFTER we cancelled our order and I called them out on the misinformation that they came clean (there were other issues with the purchase that they were not forthcoming about). While the staff may be friendly, I think its improper to characterize something as 'custom made' when in fact its mass produced. Since this debacle, I have seen a number of things in their store for sale on other websites and even in other stores in the Pearl. And, to top it off, I am receiving spam from them now. Originally, I was going to let sleeping dogs lie but this was the last straw. read more

I was almost suckered into buying a condo on the South Waterfront after viewing a model apartment that EWF had furnished and designed. Turns out I was more interested in their furniture, their clean and peaceful design was what really attracted me. Really nice and talented people who take a sincere interest in selling you the right piece not just any piece. But maybe I was easy (and a little geeky), I had noticed a credenza in Hank's apartment on the show 'Californication' and lo and behold when I walked into the showroom ... there it was!!! Not sure about the negative posts here, my stuff was not made in China and I had great customer service. Didn't ask about 'organic and sustainable. read more

Brand new, never used - EWF won't take returns. So now I'm out a couple thousand dollars. I definitely won't be comfortable buying here again, which is a shame. So I travel a lot for my job and luckily I was able to go to Portland and had some time to explore the shops. I wondered into EWF Modern not expecting to make a purchase but I fell in love with a bed frame that was perfect for my room. I am recently divorced and the bed frame went with the ex. I was used to a platform bed and this one fit the bill! The staff was super easy to work with even though I wasn't a local. They updated me on the delivery of my bed frame and kept the expectations low but the service levels high which is exactly what I do in my business. Over deliver and under promise!!!! If you are not a local client you are in for a whole lot of frustration and will regret supporting this business. We purchased several $1000 worth of furniture and highly regret it. Save yourself! We were told that they may be able to ship from manufacturer directly to us out of state. Not true. Freight service was a joke. We had no idea what week it would arrive even after departure from EWF warehouse. We went to Portland briefly for business during the process and the owner was there alone and far more interested in her local "very good client" then helping me despite having purchased several items. She helped me reluctantly when she asked if I could come back later and I told her that I was only in town briefly. To delay the wheels of progress further, they closed the store on Mondays for the Summer. If you call them you will likely get voicemail. Another review hit the nail on the head. They want everything paid in full before shipping to you so you have no recourse as to when you will see what you paid for. The final kick in the teeth happened when I reponded immediately to a floor sample email. They confirmed that mirror was still available and would arrange to have mirror packed and shipped. I was told that next day that they sold mirror to a local client hours after committing to us. read more

Really nice modern furniture. We are very happy with our marble top coffee table. However, delivery is appalling bad. When I bought the table and asked if it would be assembled I was told, yes. I was also told it would be door to door service. On the day before delivery I got a total of 4 phone calls from the trucking company and the distributor and they confirmed the driver would bring it up our path to our front door. Things that went wrong: the trucking company specifically asked if a large moving truck could manage our road, as it is a private one way lane we agreed they would deliver in a van. First mistake - they arrived in a huge moving ban that filled 1/2 our street and blocked my neighbor from getting out. The driver refused to bring the table to our door claiming he could not manage our stone driveway - seriously?? We have renovated and purchased lots of large and heavy items in the past without any such ridiculousness. Lastly we ( my 80 year old husband and I) had to not only bring the heavy table weighing 175 pounds the 100 feet to our house, but we also had to assemble it. read more

We are writing to you to end this debacle of an order. We are asking for a refund of our deposit as the product we ordered has never been delivered and we don't believe it ever will be. You have not held up your end of the commitment. I have tried for what is getting closer to half a year to be patient for our cabinet and you have never delivered it. We should not have to go through this. I now have to find another cabinet and wait for it. You have caused us a great deal of trouble. It should not take this long for one piece of furniture. This whole ordeal is just astounding. I continually am the one reaching out to EWF as the communication from EWF has sorely lacked and only to be put off again and again. Promised that it is going to be complete but never is. We are tired of waiting and want our money back so we can order from someone who will deliver on their honest word. This is very poor business practices. I would never treat my client like this. Not only are you off by months on your timing but not once in my communications has anyone offered to make this right. We continually are promised that our cabinet will arrive. It never does. Once again you said I would be contacted this week and once again I did not receive a call and our cabinet does not yet seem to exist. Something fishy is going on. You missed an important delivery date for us long ago and yet we tried to be understanding. No one did anything to make this right and our item has still never been delivered.
