Dr. Weathered cared for my senior dog, Jasmine, from the time we moved to Boise in 2020 until she passed away last month. He and his team were always kind, caring, and quick to get her in when she needed an appointment. Dr. Wethered and Dr. Lieske are the only veterinarians I've ever trusted! Dr. Lieske caught an abnormality in my cat's heart at the first appointment and referred me to a wonderful specialist. I had no idea that my cat was lethargic since she was always that way and no other vets had caught this. Now my kitty is on her heart medication and loves to play! Dr. Wethered performed an emergency procedure on my dog that not many vets here would have been comfortable performing. Unfortunately, we discovered tumors on multiple vital organs, but this procedure gave me and my boy an extra day together to do all of his favorite things. The team was so sympathetic while walking me through all the options (not that my situation had many) and supported me when I had to make the hardest decision of my life. Prior to this, both Dr. Wethered and Dr. Lieske performed a very successful double leg surgery on my dog. When I first adopted him, he struggled to get up, winced when laying down or sitting, limped, and his legs crossed when he walked. The doctors helped me make a treatment plan that lead to my dog making a full recovery without incurring any unnecessary costs. My dog and I had so many wonderful adventures with his new legs! The doctors and their team have been so caring and have an abundance of knowledge and skill. I will never trust any other vet with my fur babies. read more

The staff here clearly isn't on the same page, which made the whole visit feel disorganized and frustrating. When I asked the doctor simple questions, I was met with condescension and a noticeable ego--rather than genuine care or clear answers. It felt more like an inconvenience to them than a service for my pet. Please value your pet and choose a vet who actually listens, shows compassion, and still has passion for what they do. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. We had seen some of the poor reviews about Dr. Wethered but figured maybe it was just from some sour apples that are emotional about their pets. To say we deeply regret not going to another vet is an understatement. I am going to tell the entire story with zero details left out because I've noticed Dr. Wethered likes to respond to negative reviews defending his actions, and tends to claim that details were left out. We took our 13 year old rescue cat in for an anal gland abscess removal because we live nearby and hadn't had a chance to establish care with a highly reputable vet yet. Dr. Wethered had extremely poor bedside manners and showed very little care or compassion for our cat. He walked into the room, barely conversed with us, manhandled our cat to look at the abscess, said what he was going to do, and walked out. The communication and professionalism during the entire process got even worse from then on. We were called later that night by the receptionist and told to come in to take our cat home. We got there, once again Dr. Wethered was very short with us. He said that she needed to spend the night because she hadn't woken up from her sedation yet. His reasoning was that a cat that had been hit by a car was brought in after our cat, so they needed to prioritize the other cat. Super understandable, and he didn't charge us an overnight hospitalization fee which was appreciated. We weren't upset that she needed to spend the night (and the reasoning was very understandable), but had we not lived close by it would have been an inconvenience to be told to come in to take her home, only to be told she's spending the night with them once we got there. This was the first of numerous bad communications and it only got worse from here. As we were leaving that night the receptionist told us to come pick our cat up at 7:30 am the next day when they opened. The next morning we called around 7:45 to make sure our cat was ready to be picked up. The receptionist basically said "uhh I don't know, it may be closer to 9 am and I'll call you later when you can get her". Again, bad communication both within their business and with us. Around 9 am we got a call to go get her. We go and pick her up, and the receptionist told us that Dr. Wethered wanted to see our cat again the next day at his other pet hospital (Northwest Animal Hospital) to take out the drainage and make sure everything looked good. We had remembered that the previous day Dr. Wethered had said he wanted to do those things in 3 days, so we asked the receptionist if she was sure that the following day is when he wanted to see our cat. She said yes. Fast forward to the following day (today), and we take her into Northwest Animal Hospital. Dr. Wethered comes in, says everything looks good, and tells the tech to take out the drainage (basically a piece of gauze that is inserted into the area). The tech, whom was actually very nice, took out the drainage. There was quite a bit of blood coming out. Dr. Wethered comes back into the room shortly after she removes it, and says to her worriedly, "Did you take it out? It's only been two days." At this point they both looked at each other in a very concerned fashion, and then Wethered looks at us and says, "this should have been done two days from now." We told him that the receptionist at Ewing said he wanted it done today, and he said something along the lines of "I don't know why they would tell you that, this should have been done in two days". Seriously dude??? He then says they need to put the drainage back in, walks out, the tech (who we feel very bad for) took our cat to the back and we got to hear our cat cry out in pain repeatedly while they inserted the drainage back into her. The tech brought our cat back into the room and our cat was totally demoralized and would hardly get up from her slumped position on the table. We have never seen her like that and had to check that she was even breathing and alive. Wethered didn't have the balls to come back into the room or say sorry for his big mistake. Needless to say, we will never be returning to either of Wethered's clinics and will be taking our cat to a real vet for the rest of her treatment. It saddens me to think of all of the pets that have been mistreated, mishandled, and that have possibly even died because of Wethered's negligence. Our cat is a sweetheart of an old soul and deserves so much more than the absolutely disgusting treatment she experienced because of Wethered. If you love your pet(s) and value your time, please please PLEASE do not take them to Ewing or Northwest Animal Hospital. Dr. Wethered should be nowhere near animals or the general public. His treatment of our rescue girl, us, and the terrible communications between himself and his staff is absolutely unnaccetable. read more

front desk staff and vet techs are very friendly and helpful, but the veterinarian not so much...he seemed completely disinterested and almost annoyed by anything i had to say about my turtle, almost DROPPED HIM on 2 separate occasions, and didn't answer any of my questions or concerns during the appointments...wont be going back, so hard to find good exotic vets :( read more

I brought a feral neighborhood cat to Ewing Veterinarian Hospital. The cat had been slowly showing signs of ill health over the winter months. He would hide at the sight of a human but was so sick he gradually initiated contact and petting in a desperate desire for help. I was able to scoop him up and put him in a cat carrier and take him to the vet. The veterinarian, Dr. Weatherer, was swift and accurate in his diagnosis which shockingly, was diabetes. It will be a long road back to health for this cat but Dr. Weatherer has shown a great deal of compassion in his willingness to assist in getting the cat back on the cat back on the road to a good life once again. Terrible experience! Do not recommend this vet. Terrible bedside manner,no compassion,no feedback,seems rushed and completely uninterested in the pet and the owner. Spent less than 5 minutes in the room in all 3 visits. The only thing he cares to talk about is you purchasing more. Took my dog to get the 3rd round of vaccines,she had a vaccine and was sent to the counter to pay. He came back and said he missed the rabies shot so she had to go back and have another one. Traumatic for a small dog and how do you forget a rabies vaccine but remember to sell me the heart worm medicine you already sold me last time. read more

Dr. Whethered was incredibly thorough and nice to my dog when he was having problems with a terrible rash. He gave us a complimentary lazor treatment and followed up with us the second we got home. We always have a positive experience at this vet, and will continue to use him whenever pet issues arise. read more

Had to bring my dog here instead of our regular vet for an emergency situation and had a terrible experience. Dr. Wethered had a terrible bedside manner and no sympathy whatsoever for the situation. My dog was extremely worked up from being attacked by another animal and the vet decided that was a good time to randomly start clipping his nails - which is something he doesn't handle well even on a good day and which I could have told him if he had bothered to ask me beforehand if I wanted that done. Also there was a toddler in a playpen behind the receptionists desk screaming and making a bunch of noise (like toddlers do of course). This doesn't make for a very calm or professional environment. read more

Best veterinarian my pets have been to! I could never say enough good things about Ewing Animal Hospital. I have been taking my pets here for several years now and I trust them completely with the health of my pets. Dr. Wethered has seen my cats for everything from a routine exam to liver failure, kidney disease, diabetes, and even performed lung lobe surgery on one. Dr. Wethered is not only a very compassionate veterinarian, he is very, very good at his job and has always taken excellent care of my pets. We had brought our dog, Chewy here for 2 years. Mainly for annual maintenance/checkups. When our healthy dog suddenly and unexpectedly passes away, we weren't really sure what to do. We rent and for obvious reasons didn't want to bury him. We brought him to Ewing, thinking our beloved pet would be respectfully taken care of. When we brought him in, the idea would be cremation. The receptionist/tech seemed more interested to get our money than anything. I know it was close to closing time (we did call before just to make sure it was cool to bring him) but the whole staff of girls seemed really put out. We paid the $270.00 with no questions. We were both crying and obviously upset. The receptionist conformed our contact info and told us he would be ready in 2 days. This was Monday. Friday, after not hearing a word, I called the office. A woman answered and gave me a back story about why she wasn't there when we came in initially. I tried to be polite, but really gave zero fucks about her life. I asked about my dog and when we could pick him up. She informed me the "tech was on lunch and she would leave him a message". I asked her if she knew if the process was complete. She said their equipment was down. No phone call. No communication. My dog had been in a freezer for 5 days and no one called to let us know. I've paid $270 for a purse before and the sales clerk called me a couple days later to ask me how I liked it. Chewy was our family our friend and the most amazing lab I've ever had. It was unfair, unprofessional and inconsiderate of Ewing animal hospital to not only treat him like that, but us. Find another vet. read more

Our 10 year old lab needed laryngeal tieback surgery which Dr. Wethered performed. He was able to come home the day after surgery with no side effects. I would definitely recommend Dr Wethered for anyone needing this surgery for their dog. read more

I will never take my pets anywhere else. Our cat was looking worse after a visit to another vet and Ewing was the only place that said "Bring him in!" - the other two animal hospitals we called (including the first place) referred us to West Vet (even though it was a full hour before they were scheduled to close). The staff is lovely and you just know they all really CARE about the pets in their charge. They saved the life if my daughter's dog too. Other vets kept telling her to either amputate his leg or put him down -- Dr. Wethered not only gave her hope but saved Otis' leg. read more

My boyfriend got his puppy spayed here. He paid for the laparoscopic option because it was suppose to be less invasive. When he brought her home I checked her spay incision....It was horrible especially since it was suppose to be less invasive. She also had been shaved way too much and had razor burn and a few small cuts from being shaved. Two days later it started to ooze and then it opened up. She had been doing nothing but laying down. He took her in to get it stapled and they gave her three staples. Each staple was hardly in the skin and about to fall out. One staple was over another incision that wasnt even open and it was barely piercing her skin (so pointless). One of the staples was not even over her incision and her incision was still open. We ended up having to take her to the emergency vet that same night. The doctor there (westvet) removed all her staples and re-stapled it correctly. She must have felt bad for us because she didn't even charge us. Also when he got her spayed they did not give him any instructions except a few sentences on his discharge papers, no ecollar, and the pain medicine they gave him is not an widely accepted pain medicine for getting spayed. Ewing vet did refund him the extra he paid for laparoscopic. I was the one who picked her up originally from the spay. They didn't give me any instructions (no food right away, no exercise, watch for this etc.) They couldn't even tell me when she could get a bath or how her incision was closed. My boyfriend also told me that one time the vet clipped two of her nails too short, hitting the quick. A vet should not be doing this. Maybe a new vet assistant but not a vet. They gave her a two week antibiotic that is now making her sick. This is been a total nightmare! I have five years of experience working in animal hospitals and I have had to deal with such drama for one spay. read more

I have been taking my animals to Dr. Weathered for years. He always goes above and beyond for me. I have a dog with allergies, a cat in kidney failure, a cat with three legs, and a cat with asthma. Everyone knows me by name and always takes great care if my fur babies. I once had an emergency and had to take my cat to West Vet in the middle of the night. They kept him overnight and said they needed to do a 2500$ surgery to wire his jaw shut. I transferred him to Dr. Weathered in next morning, he looked at the X-rays and said my kitty was just fine. No surgery healed up in a week. He knows his stuff! 5 stars! read more

Honestly if it comes down to boarding your dogs? Never. (Maybe cats if you don't mind them running outside due to negligence and possibly not getting caught) Worked for this company (also Northwest Animal Hospital such is their other facility) and spent countless hours cleaning their kennels due to the large amounts of feces, urine, blood, mud and mystery fluids. It was so disgusting some nights would take till 11 pm on my first two weeks. I was told they deep clean once every six months and was not paid for the hours spent cleaning because quote Dr Wethered; it's not necessary to clean the kennels. They let their cages get filled for months with bacteria (they will spray off poop with water but it needs to be sanitized). So hopefully you don't mind paying people to neglect your animals and get them back possibly sick so you have to go back, many dogs that would come in would begin to poop blood on a daily. I can't say enough good things about this place and Dr. Weathered. I had spent thousands and thousands of dollars taking my Boston Terrier to WestVet where she had been referred from another vet who thought her to complicated. There, she had three specialists to treat her and she still had rashes and bowel issues causing her to vomit 2-3 times a day (down from 6-8). I took her to Dr. Weathered on advice from a friend and wish we would have found him sooner. He took the time to listen and analyze the situation and started her on a regimen that has been nothing short of a miracle for her quality of life (and ours!), and only has vomiting a couple of times a month. She still has some exacerbations, but he has taken the time to make contingency plans for this and we can usually treat at home. For the first time in her 8 years of life, she was out of the hospital for an entire year, and doing better than I though was ever possible. The team is lovely, and they actually great her kindly and look forward to seeing us, even though when she is feeling well she is very loud and hyper in public. They take the time to clip her nails every time, which may seem like a little thing but is very appreciated. It also goes to show how Dr. Weathered see the animal as a whole, and not just separate groups of symptoms to be written off and referred out. I cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

I took my dog here because he had a lump in the top of his mouth and was not eating. Within the hour we found out he had hyperthyroidism with calcium deposits in his kidneys and bladder. He was a very sick dog. Dr. Whetered and his staff started immediately with blood test and a strict diet. They actually froze the blood test and sent them back east to be tested. His calcium levels were at 15.5. The doctor removed the over active parathyroid gland and sent them off for a biopsy. The results came back negative and my dog was going to be okay when the other parathyroids started working again in 7-14 days. One week later my dog went in to a seizure because his calcium levels had dropped to 3.7 (the norm is 9). This happened at 6am on a Saturday. We were able to give him 5 units of calcium at home and met his assistant at the hospital 10 mins later. She gave him another 5 units and when the Dr. arrived 20 mins later he gave him another 38 units constantly monitoring his heart rate and basically saved his life. The Dr. comes in every night after hours and every morning at 4-5 am to check on my dog. He and his staff have shown true dedication above and beyond. My dog is doing great and almost ready to come home again. Healthy and Happy. I will never go anywhere else. read more

I researched locations in Boise to board my dogs when I was in town visiting relatives. Although the actual boarding rate was not unreasonable, it ended up being an expensive ordeal. When I made phone reservations, I was told my pets would have to be up-to-date on rabies and kennel cough. I asked if they could receive vaccinations there, and was told yes, so I didn't worry about having anything done before I left home, as I knew their rabies shots were up-to-date and they should only need kennel cough. Upon arrival, I was told my older dog's three-way was expired, so I had to have that done as well or I couldn't leave him. That threw me, as I wasn't told this ahead of time, and I had no choice as I didn't have any alternate arrangement. Also, they wouldn't just give him the shot, they charged me $54.00 for an exam plus $58.75 for his booster (the last booster from my regular vet only cost $24 plus NO exam fee). I wouldn't have minded too much, but my older dog is getting very feeble (he is going on 14) and I don't expect him to last much longer. They also wanted to charge me for a rabies vaccine for my younger dog as they said hers had expired. I had to go back inside and show them on my paperwork that it was NOT expired yet, and she said she had just looked at it wrong......I have no reason to question the vet's knowledge or quality of care; however, all in all, I kind of taken advantage of from the experience. read more
