Excel was subcontracted through Allied in which we used for our move from NC to TN. Overall, they did a decent job. However, when it came to furniture, we found a few missing screws around the house, two of which belonged to the couch. The movers were very nice and hard working, considering how big of a house it was (4 bed, 2.5 bath plus a finished basement, two flights of stairs). Between Excel and the other moving company that was subcontracted, there were a few minor dings on our furniture but nothing super noticeable. They were VERY careful with not scraping up any walls which was the most important thing. I would absolutely hire the same employees again if I could! read more

Claim for missing boxes DENIED! Not all Furniture damaged was covered! After weeks of unpacking I began to notice missing items. I filed a claim and it was denied because I signed the manifest upon delivery. IF YOU PLAN TO MOVE BEWARE! This is important..... I was NEVER told I MUST check off each and every box number before signing, there were hundreds. (In hindsight I should have known better) I was just glad to have the move over. The driver said if you have a problem just file a claim and they will take care of it. I don't know why I believed him. Our goods were stored in the Raleigh warehouse for several months before being delivered to Florida on a shared load. Then transferred to a smaller truck to get to our destination. If I could, I would have selected NO STARS! DO NOT USE EXCEL MOVING and STORAGE! They are crooks, pure and simple. They are an agent ALLIED VAN LINES. They are in cahoots in this SCAM. The "move consultant" at Excel did a video walk-through with me in my previous home (three-bedroom condo). Remember, these people are "experts," or so I was told. Jeremiah (the expert) estimated that the total weight would be 10,000 pounds. The cost to move 10,000 pounds was $11,017.89! I was told that if it turned out to be less weight, I would get a refund for the difference. I was NOT told at the time that the amount WOULD NOT be pound for pound and dollar for dollar. Long story short, the actual weight for the stuff moved was 7,760 pounds. I was sent a check for $627.20! I WAS NOT reimbursed at $1.10 (rounded) per pound--the COST OF MOVING my stuff. I was reimbursed at the rate of $28 per 100 pounds, which was BURIED IN THE FINE PRINT of the contract. This is a SCAM pure and simple. No other business, to my knowledge, operates like this. We just moved from Cary, NC to Midland, TX... it was quite the move. I got quotes from a few different places and went with Excel because Excel was able to get the price within my budget. Some of the other quotes I got were based on a rough estimate "how many bedrooms". But with Excel, An estimator actually came to my house and figured out how much we were actually moving which gave a more accurate price. What was really awesome with Excel is that they didn't necessarily go to the "middle of nowhere", TX that we were moving to but they were able to hook up with a "sister company" in a nearby city who helped out and somehow got us our stuff. I don't even really know if I explained that correctly but we got our stuff. ??? All the staff were great! From Jeremiah (estimator) to Kim (our moving specialist) to the 2 guys who loaded and then the 2 guys that unloaded (Sorry I'm TERRIBLE with names). Our stuff arrived a little later than first quoted BUT it ended up being a God send because our house closing was delayed a few days too so our items arrived perfectly timed! My family moved from North Carolina to Colorado in March of 2019 and hired Excel Moving Storage to pack and ship our personal belongings. After delivery, we realized several of our items were missing and filed a claim with Excel. Despite us paying for full moving insurance coverage, Excel refuses to reimburse us for the items they lost. I will update this review if I'm able to find a resolution, but so far Excel has been completely uncooperative. The moment we met our designated moving manager/driver, Timothy Norris, we knew we could sit back, relax, and rest easy. He assured us that he would take good care of us and they had it all covered. No need to fret. We could relax now. It was in their hands. We were exhausted from getting ready for the move so that was very comforting to hear. And it truly went that smoothly. They carefully packed the items we asked them to pack, they protected all surfaces in our home with padding up and down the stairs and rails as well as protecting our floors and doorways. The men all worked extremely hard and practically nonstop. They were respectful and kind and completed the job in a timely manner. I was thrilled with how the move-out went but even more thrilled with how the unloading and move-in went. It was even faster and more efficient (if you can believe that!). These guys were even faster and more efficient than the first amazing group. 3 soccer players (in their free time) carefully running with at least 100 lbs in their hands each trip they made from the truck. They completed our humongous truck load in just 5 hours. It was incredible to watch. A real show of strength and agility. And not one item was broken or damaged. OH! And I forgot to say that the truck arrived from NC to TX on time as promised just 5 days from the time of loading. They did an excellent job! I would highly recommend! One last thing. A couple days after the completion of our move I noticed our 10' ladder was missing. I texted Timothy who told me that he was in Austin and was looking right at it. They had loaded it underneath the truck and had forgotten it was there. He said he'd get it back to me and he did! To my surprise he showed up from NC just a few weeks later with my ladder. Now that's great service and an honest man! He could have denied having it, kept it, or sold it but he didn't. He admitted it was there, that he had forgotten it, and he made it right by getting it back to me. Thank you for the great experience during a stressful and exhausting time. Everything went so smoothly and the price was right. We will definitely recommend to others and will hire again in the future. Update - I just read over some of the other reviews and I can't believe their reviews. My experience with Excel and Allied was nothing like the terrible review they left. It was excellent. I was always able to speak with a representative from Excel, I received very prompt replies from the driver, Timothy, the truck was in time, nothing held hostage, nothing was broken, everything was accounted for, and I even received a $115 check back from Allied after the move. They asked for NO additional money. They returned money to me. I can't help but wonder if these other reviews were frauds. I hate when other people/companies lie about good hard working people. I found Excel Moving and Storage through a discount program we have at work, when I wanted to move across the country. Josh was great when he came out to walk through my place for an estimate, very thoroughly taking notes. When I signed on the dotted line, I was assigned a person to coordinate everything. She helped arrange the pick-up and drop-off dates -- that was a bit hairy in the beginning, as we couldn't seem to get the drop-off window straight...a bit unnerving when you're talking about 1,900 miles away. We finally got it right though. She also called several times throughout the move to check on me, ask how things went, etc. The driver was also very communicative, letting me know he'd be a little late for the pick-up, although he made up for it by being early on the drop-off. He even gave me his cell number in case I wanted to call him for anything while he was en route. A nice perk was the free boxes, tape, packing paper, etc. (It should be, given how much money I plunked down!) The only thing that happened on the trip was my three wooden slats for my bed (extra support under the box springs) were accidentally unloaded at someone else's house; the driver replaced those by getting new ones for me from a local Home Depot. The only thing I would have changed about this whole experience would be to have a third guy on both ends to move things along faster. read more

Two parts to this review: sales and the actually move. First, the move itself. Jay and the crew were very professional and did a good job overall. Our furniture came through with only one problem, which was pretty good (NC to FL move). They handled some very challenging pieces very well. I would actually rate them at 4.5 stars. However, there were a lot of problems with logistics. I requested that we have our house packed on one day, loaded the next, travel the following and then delivered. We were told that in order to have the house packed in one day, we would have to do a lot of packing. And we did, to the tune of half of the house. However, the salesman did not get the dates right, so everything was delayed a day. My bad for not checking the dates on the contract more carefully, but I told him three times when we wanted to move, and it seems to us that he ignored it. He also said that they may put another shipment on the truck, but I told him that they moved us from NY to NC on a 53 foot truck (same that they would move us down to FL in). I worked for a Allied Van Lines agent during high school and college, so I am familiar with how things run. On the day of the move, Jay (driver/foreman) told me that they had another load on the truck already. You can guess what happened: they ran out of room and had to send a second truck. This resulted in our delivery requiring two separate days. I would rate the sales and logistics part of this move as a 1, so overall 2. It was a pretty stressful move with all the logistics occurring in a very disjointed fashion. Proceed with caution. read more

They advertise 24/7 tracking and communication-a joke. No human will callus back, our information was not loaded into Allied tracker, and no contact information to find out where our goods are. Been calling for four days. Very expensive move and furious. Crazy. The worst service I've seen and I've moved many times. The Raleigh Office is non-responsive. They take your goods and you need to pay to get delivery. As soon as they loaded they went radio silent. We're driving so knowing how many hours a day we need to do from one side of the US to the other would be very helpful. read more

This was the worst moving experience of my life. They delivered our stuff to a private storage unit without even attempting to deliver to our new house. Then, when we tried to get them to deliver our things, they tried to extort almost the entire price of the move in additional fees for storage and 're-delivery.' They also wouldn't allow us to pick up our things from the storage unit ourselves. It wasn't until after we threatened litigation that we were able to free our belongings from the Excel/Allied grip. I have used Excel moving 4-5 times over last 20 years. I have always been happy with movers and customer service. However, this was the last move we will do with Excel. They are unresponsive when it comes to taking care of customers after they are finished getting paid. I had many items damaged this move, and the response was very poor. They use a third party to access damages on items they have no expertise at all. The owner of third party even stated he was not qualified to determine damage to rugs etc. I was told on 7/15/20 that the GM was still reviewing the notes on my move and he would return my calls quickly. It has still been a month and nothing. We have moved on and learned a lesson and will not be recommending to our clients and friends. I expected better out of a company we have recommended to so many. read more

This was a nightmare move. The moving team in North Carolina destroyed a ton of furniture. I don't mean just it was damaged in transit (though many items were--I'm talking SEVERE scrapes, scratches, gouges, and dents on 8 major items, plus a ton of crushed boxes). They also destroyed my (very nice! not IKEA-level!) wood bedframe when taking it apart at the origin: they forcefully pulled out a ton of embedded screw anchors (making it impossible to put the bed back together) and shattered multiple pieces of wood, then inexplicably packed those splintered fragments in the "parts box" for the destination team to find. (The damage estimator here in Austin was shocked at the amount and extent of damage.) They also just straight up lost a tabletop and still have no idea where it ended up. The claims agent was impossible to reach by phone or email, and the claims process took a month, during which time we were sleeping on a mattress on the floor, as we'd been told that if we disposed of, repaired, or replaced damaged items before the claim was settled, we'd forfeit our right to any damages. They also undervalued the broken furniture despite my providing accurate links to the product as priced, and told me if I wanted to request additional review of the claim it would be another 45-60 days of sleeping on the floor. I gave up and took the insufficient sum they offered. I really wanted to like this company; Dave seemed like a nice man when we spoke on the phone. I can only guess that they subcontract out without any real quality control. Maybe you'll get lucky with a better origin team if you use them! But I wouldn't take the risk. Update: They publicly replied to a negative review on Google saying they were concerned at this unusual outcome and would be following up.... weeks have passed with no further contact. read more

Move from NC to CT last month. An unmitigated DISASTER from the moment they first stepped into our house. We did not know until after a month of packing and preparation that the estimate for our job was 9000 pounds under actual weight. We only found that out after the crew loaded us and the loading team leader came to us with his concerns because they had to call in a second truck. Sure enough, the estimator was forced to call us the morning following the loading and, in a breaking voice, told us what he had done and begged us ( "I am pleading" ) for $5000 more than our "locked-in guaranteed" price. They made the estimate error, our packing and loading was an understaffed nightmare as a result, and then they shook us down for more money after they had all of our personal belongings, everything we owned, in their possession. Then, unloading in CT was chaotic. We discovered that because of the underestimating at the beginning in NC, the truck prepared at the warehouse in NC was overpacked. In order make room, they disassembled every piece of furniture they possibly could: numerous shelves, several tables, our grill... and upon arrival in CT the parts to all of these disassembled items were missing! As we watched the unloading and saw how much of our belongings had been taken apart, we were in shock. The driver reassured us they had a "parts box" (our various nuts, bolts and disassembled parts) and would assemble for us. THEY DID NOT. UNDER THE COVER OF "GOING TO LUNCH" , THEY DROVE AWAY. We desperately called the driver on his cell phone who informed us that the "parts box" was lost. No one knew where it was. So there we were in the smoking ruins of this move. About two weeks later a smashed cardboard box arrived from Excell via the mail with assembly hardware that was not even ours. We also discovered several boxes of belongings among our boxes that were not ours as well and have since tried to return them to the rightful owner via Excell's third party retrieval process that they outsource. This move was so egregiously botched. It was profoundly unprofessional. It was rude and crude. It was a thoroughly damaging and damaged experience. It takes our breath away to think that we gave them our contract. The anger and the sense of being thoroughly violated will be with us for a long time. BEWARE! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. You will be shaken down and you and your worldly goods will be utterly and callously disrespected. If you want to feel thoroughly mugged, call Excell. We have been involved in 8 moves over the past 3 years (for various reasons) and Excel provided the best overall service. It started with a facetime quote with Stewart (covid friendly and easy) followed by coordinating a pickup and delivery date with Kim (answered all my inquiries promptly and thoroughly) finally the actual pickup of our 2BR apartment in Raleigh by Diondre and crew (friendly, neat, careful and efficient). To complicate things, we asked for 3 stops of various pieces of furniture upon delivery to NJ. I was doubtful when I was told "no problem". True to their word...it all went well...in a driving rain storm all day. Diondre had a smaller than expected crew but things went well. Finally, to my surprise, I received an email from Anne in Excel's accounting dept informing me that the weight was less than estimated and the prep was less than expected so we would be getting a credit. I would never have known any better and was satisfied with the overall initial cost. Excel's overall service along with their honesty and pleasant customer focus is why I would rate them the best of the 5 movers we used during the past 3 years! Well done Excel team!!!
