Our all-around experience with this Raleigh Excel/Allied team was AWESOME. Matt and Natalie were great in setting up our preferred date, managing our move, and when needed slightly adjustments in time, they were great and fast. Natalie was checking with us all throughout the process from pick-up to even after delivery. Durham to Dallas, they did a wonderful job! I also thought the price was very fair. The Pick-up team very careful, VERY Professional, safe, and quick. All around an Awesome team!!!! We could not be happier with our experience!! On the delivery day, we didn't expect the guys until after 11am. Wilson called about 8:30a saying they were ready if we were. I thought, wow! early... great! When they got here, they got the tour and immediately laid out all their runners, cardboard, dollies etc. Since it was raining when they got here, they kept one dolly inside and transferred items to that to be moved throughout the house so they did not drag a wet dolly throughout the house. They could not have been any more conscientious or respectful. Not only were Wilson and Ryan professional, they are genuinely great people and we enjoyed the pleasure of getting to know them. I found Excel through a good friend who had great past experience with them. My first move was to get all of my belongings out of my house after it sold, and then several months later they moved my girlfriend and me out of her Durham apartment. All of my stuff was stored in Raleigh and then the combined load was shipped out to Los Angeles. It was a success. Listen - moving and relocating is a crazy process to manage and ultimately survive (to the sourpuss commenters). Also, everyone participating needs to be on top of things and collaborate to make this work. My sales (Josh), operations (Amie), moving Teams (in Raleigh, Durham and LA) and accounting contacts (David, Patti) at Excel made everything work out for me better than expected. Including a call I had today, they've been thorough and given me great customer support. I used Allied Movers on a move 3 years ago and was very happy with their service. I wasn't happy I had to put a clim in, but was taken care of in a timely manner. This move I once again chose to use Allied Movers out of Raleigh, NC. The Driver was both respectful and professional from door to door. I was quoted a guaranteed price and was told my weight was higher then anticipated and had to pay an up charge. The drop off date was later then expected, but was notified along the way of the changes. To be fair the driver is the most important part of the experience. We were very pleased with Excel Moving. They were efficient, careful, polite and professional. I felt fortunate that the movers that packed and loaded our house also delivered to the new house. This was the second big cross state move in less than four months, so an extremely stressful situation especially given that the first move wasn't as smooth. Excel gave us even a better price and better service than the "cheaper" group who ruined many of our items in the first move. Our load even came in under the estimated weight so we got a discount from the quoted price. The communication throughout the entire time was excellent. Natalie was excellent about touching base along the way, Matt was good on the front end with the quote and our movers were great. I would definitely use them again or recommend to others. read more

Please do not use this company. They are CROOKS. I had the misfortune of using this company at the recommendation of a friend, who paid $1200 LESS than I did for the same move (same city to city, same size apartment). 1. It took them 17 (yes, 17) tries to get me a contract. Each revision had a mistake - the dates, the address, the price. 2. The last version of the contract excluded very specific fine print that cost me the extra $1200. Sure, it is my responsibility to read the contract, but I should not have had to read 17 different versions of a very simple contract. 3. Packing items: there is very basic logic in packing certain items together or not. Packing a toilet plunger with my clothing is absolutely unacceptable and unsanitary. The company has a strict policy about not packing flammable items - and yet, they packed flammable aerosol cans with clothing as well (that could have gone very badly given the aerosol cans sprayed until empty onto my clothing). 4. 3 of the 4 people I worked with were rude and unprofessional, failing to understand from a customer service perspective why I might possibly be upset about overpaying and damaged items. I urge you to look elsewhere for your moving company. Update: After speaking with my move consultant over the phone about damaged items, she actually yelled at me on the phone because I wanted to speak to her supervisor (which I asked in a calm tone). I've never had someone who works in customer service scream at me. Highly unprofessional and rude. read more

I have moved a lot and even used Allied before. This by far was the absolute worst experience. It started with them not sticking to the contract that we all signed and I was bound to. They would not send someone to pack on the date that we agreed to, then they were incorrect about what they were going to pack. So they stated the loaders were going to pack. The loaders did not know this and then stated that by doing that, they don't get paid for packing. When the items arrived at the new house, one guy dropped a box that I had something that had been in my family for over 100 years and is now broken, they did something that created a huge lump the length of our mattress, and many other things. One of the first things I did when the unloaders arrived is show them where the water, snacks and BATHROOM was. The same guy that broke the art went upstairs and used a bathroom that we hadn't even put anything in yet and stopped up the toilet. Water (dirty) was going everywhere until he found my husband....in the meantime he was walking all over carpeted areas until he found him. After that I realized that the driver was in the truck for both the loading and unloading and had no idea about anything that had happened. I went to explain and ask that the gentleman that was causing so many issues be sent home. Instead he just told him that the "lady inside doesn't want you here" and that caused a very awkward moment. I did reach out to the scheduler and ask that I be contacted by the GM. That was 2 weeks ago and nothing. I am still very upset about how the sale, scheduling and move went. We have moved about every 2 years and never have I been lied to, never has the driver been absent because he hides in his truck and never have I felt so frustrated. I would not recommend this company to anyone. There are a lot of moving companies out there. read more

Not a terrible experience but rather bad. Some services were wonderful and others terrible. Tangela who quoted us was nice and said we could call the Raleigh offices for free boxes - this isn't true. When I called, the person that answered was extremely rude and never a reliable answer. Ultimately, they do not supply free boxes so this is a deception at best. On the other hand, Kim at the main office was helpful (but still no boxes) and Denver the driver and the load-up crew were good and quick. There's no specific date on delivery (just a range of dates it could arrive), which seems typical in this business. However, countless boxes were full of broken things! Worst of all, after unpacking our stuff we discovered a brand new suitcase that I got for Christmas was missing. In it I had the very few dress clothes I have. Of course, no responsibility on their part--I'm just out of several hundred dollars of clothes and luggage that they misplaced?? Unfortunately, this just seems par for the industry so not sure what choice you have! read more

Received estimates from 4 other companies for our move from Durham, NC to Orlando, Fl that were in the same range as Excel but was impressed by the determination and knowledge of the estimator/sales representative. Decided to use Excel based on that and an offer of assistance with boxes, packing materials, etc. Warehouse Manager was super helpful and we were feeling good about our choice. Then, on the day of the move, the truck showed up two hours late with only three people to load a five bedroom home and not enough room on the truck for all of our stuff. I called our move coordinator three times to report the issue and get a resolution. Left voicemails, never heard back from her. Called the sales rep who was clueless and offered no help. Spoke to his boss who promised resolution and a call back no later than the following day. Never heard from him again. A second truck finally showed (called by first driver) in the evening. Finally finished at 10:00 pm. It took almost two weeks beyond the original contracted delivery date to get our second shipment and complete the move. Some damage but not as much as we expected. This was our second long distance move. Very bad experience. read more

Moving is stressful enough without this company. We are a military family so we have been through our fair-share of moves....this was by far the worst move we have ever gone through. Someone came out to do a quote and went through the whole house with my husband. My husband told him that we were doing a bit of a complicated move where some of our boxes would go to storage and some to the apartment. He also told him that we would try to box up a lot of our stuff ourselves but there would still be packing to do (the kitchen in particular). They arranged a Wednesday pick up date, and a Sunday move-in date. I was quite proud of everything that I had packed up into boxes by the time the movers came...I thought I had made their job so much easier. I left boxes untaped so that they could add things to boxes if they wanted and make sure items were packed to their satisfaction (as I had learned in the past movers appreciate due to liability). When the "drivers" arrived however they said they had been told that EVERYTHING was going to be packed and ready to go. They told us that Allied was going to charge us per box to be packed. On top of that, they told us they were going to be moving us in "tomorrow" (Thursday) even though we had been told Sunday. Not only did our lease in our new apartment didn't even start until Friday but my husband wasn't going to be in NJ until Saturday night because his flight was already arranged! After finding out that we were a military family, a lot of negotiating from my husband, and a complete anxiety attack from me, the movers agreed to move us in the date we were originally told, and to pack our boxes with no extra charge. (of course we had to go out and buy boxes because they didn't come with enough because they were told they didn't need to pack us.) I will say on a positive note that most of our stuff showed up in good shape and in the right place except for one important kitchen box. We assume this box is crammed in our storage unit but without a $70 cab ride there is no way for us to find out if it's there. I had a lot of things that they missed around the house that I had to bring on my own. We also had to buy new mounting equipment for our tv. This was NOT a good move. I don't blame the drivers, I blame the company for the obviously TERRIBLE communication between the original quote guy and the drivers. It was enough though to add a lot of stress to our move. If you have more than just a local move, I would avoid this company. read more

Never actually let this company move my house. Gave me an rough estimate over the phone (which I understand is just a sight unseen estimate) and told me they could move me on a sunday. Keep in mind, I had a total of 5 actual pieces of furniture as we sold a lot right before the move, and as a simple couple, we don't have a lot of "stuff". Male representative came to my house to give the binding estimate, saw a young (looking) woman alone, hiked the estimate an additional $400 and told me that he couldn't move me on a sunday. Either he really didn't want my business or he thought he could take advantage of a woman. read more

Staff was friendly and helpful while arranging my move from NC to CO but once the contact was signed, all bets were off. Initial driver unable to get into apartment parking lot so pick up turned out to be two hours off schedule. They had to repack my boxes into larger boxes, get a smaller truck, pack them into the smaller truck and then reload the items into the larger truck. Move was to take just over a week but instead took three weeks. When I submitted damage claim form I was told I had signed the initial loading forms where the driver had noted some boxed were "crushed". I was just shown the bottom of each page to sign off on the pick up but it was not explained that I was also signing away my option to request reimbursement for damages. After reviewing my claim, the company paid 1/3 of what the damages I submitted. After a $4000 move, I asked for $300 damages and they paid $100. Be careful of this company and their practices. read more

The prices kept changing and when they delivered my furniture it was so damaged--some of it beyond repair! I had numerous Tiffany lamps and they dissembled them and did not match parts. I spent 2 hours fitting parts together. They did not assemble furniture they had dissembled. They were awful and Matt, their salesman is a con artist. They are rude when you asked for resolution to problems and when you questioned pricing that changed. DO NOT use them!! read more

I recently used Excel for a short distance move and I am so happy I chose them. From start to finish they were easy to work with and made moving so much less stressful. Natashia was wonderful to work with!! I called to ask her some questions about items I was having trouble packing - she told me not to worry about it and sent the crew with extra packing materials and they took care of it for me. The guys showed up on time and worked quickly and efficiently. After we started unpacking we realized one item was missing and one was damaged. So far the claims process has been easy. No arguing, just an apology, a form to fill out and a confirmation email letting me know they are working on it. If you're going to hire professional movers, hire Excel! read more

I found Excel Moving and Storage via the Internet and I am extremely happy that I did! My mother passed away and I had a critical deadline to move her home items within a weeks time since I live outside NC. Excel not only was able to schedule my move right away, but they helped to schedule two moves for me in order to send my mother's furniture to two different destinations. When they arrived, the quality of service was definitely what I envisioned. They quickly got things wrapped up tight and got them out of the apartment fast. I spoke to my family members at the delivery destinations and they were wowed at the speedy delivery and with how quickly and professionally Excel unloaded and set everything up. Excel was very helpful throughout the moving process, especially during the planning and organizational phase, where we dealt with a personal coordinator for the process. She kept us up to date and stayed on top of each phase of the move. The movers themselves were courteous and helpful, but we did experience some damage to fragile pieces due to overcrowding in a few of the boxes. Excel got us from SC to the DC area in 4 days...over the holidays, so was very happy with that. read more

Matt, Natalie, and FoFo were wonderful to work with! This is the first time I've used a moving company, so I was very nervous. I was also transporting a very expensive grand piano, which arrived in good conditioned (and remained almost in tune - shocking). Matt did the walk through and accurately estimated my needs. Natalie arranged the logistics, and the crew members were early both to pickup and delivery. FoFo managed the moving crew and was WONDERFUL! Very nice people and lots of promises. However, when it came to dealing with claims, they were poor. My family has moved a number of times and as in most moves, there is some damage. We have always been treated fairly in the past but not this time. If you want a firm that will treat you fairly after the move and payment, my experience is that it is not this firm. read more

We moved from Wake Forest to Denver in January and got lucky with the weather at both ends of the move. Excel was able to accommodate our timeline and the delivery team was excellent. Other than one broken item (a glass lamp shade that was improperly packed) and a missing vacuum atachment, we were pleased with the overall experience. read more

After receiving many quotes for my move to the West Coast I decided on Allied Van Lines even tho' they were more expensive I wanted to make sure my things arrived in good condition. The person in charge of my storage Natalie Smith at Excel Storage was less than professional in every way. When my shipment arrived several things were missing and lost, there concern was just put in a claim, but these were things that were irreplaceable. I would not recommend them. They tell you how great they are but it is not so. STAY AWAY from this Company. read more

Last minute life saver! Right before I was scheduled to move into a new apartment I hurt my back and could barely walk. I called Excel on a Thursday afternoon and they were able to schedule me for that Saturday morning, exactly when I needed them. The guys showed up right when they said they would and packed all my belongings (with a level of care much higher than I would have had I packed myself!) and still managed to get the job done super quickly. What a disaster. First the driver forgot to drop off everything. He left our lawnmower on his truck. It is now almost a month later and still no lawnmower. Also, our artificial Christmas tree was one of the items they moved. When they took it off the druck, I told the driver that the bag it was packed in looked odd...like the top was off. He said" they come apart really easy" and left it. When we went to put it up for Christmas, the entire top was snapped off. We had taken out the "best" insurance coverage available but when we filed a claim....low and behold it was denied because their not liable after it is delivered to the garage attached to the house. No wonder the driver did not want to take the time to open the bag and inspect it! Stay away from these guys. read more

We used Greensboro Excel Moving & Storage - 2612 Discovery Rd. Raleigh, NC 27616. Owners: Jim Dorsett & Jody Hatley. Email: jimdorsett@excelms.com . Because we were impressed with the salesman. They were not the cheapest quote we got-yet the most expensive. The damage to our fine arts, linens, chrystal, china, orienta rugs, antique tables, prams and etc is in the 10s of thousands.Boxes of antique china were packed without paper, pictures without any paper, fine chsystal packed with heavy metal object on top. We were supposed to have our belongings vauted for a month. When the first truck arrived at our new location 90% of what came off this truck was mildewed, wet scratched and damaged. Even the pieces packed by their 3rd party (White Glove) were damaged. From what I understood from the head of the moving crew - the contents of this truck were never vaulted and stayed in the parking area. This truck had a hole in the roof which caused the damage. The head mover explained that he had spoken to the owners on many occassions to have the hole in the truck fixed. In any event our contents were to be vaulted and we paid for the contents to be vaulted. After 2 days of talking to Excel - we were told that the damage was so extensive that they Excel had turned this issue over to their insurance company. Finally, we are surprised that the owners of this franchise or the corporate office of Allied has not made any effort to contact us. read more

I had a wonderful experience with Excel moving. I heard about them through a friend, whom also had a good experience with them. The sales rep was very friendly and always answered my questions quickly. Moving day was by far, the best moving day I have ever had. I had a 3 story town home that they had emptied within a couple of hours. They even stopped by my storage facility. The whole process did not take as long as I was quoted. Terrible experience. The people at Excel are not trustworthy truthful people. They came up with a story about the truck breaking down and there are so many holes in the story that even they can't keep up with their lies. The don't want to talk about the people involved, just the contract. And they asked for more money after giving me a fixed price contract based on weight. Suddenly, they said that they had to pack boxes that should have been packed by me. My items are being held hostage on a hot truck and they won't even give me a firm delivery date. Stay away. They do not value customer relations. Was in storage with them for 8 months. They neglected to pack the contents of a large double cabinet. Broke a porcelain item while packing. Charged me for a delivery that never happened. Tried 3 times to get someone to call me to renegotiate my monthly rate as I had to extend another 6 to 8 months. No one bothered to ever call me back. When I went in to pull my storage no one bothered to meet with me to offer apologies for the many mistakes made or see if they could keep my business. The only bright spot is Natasha who unfortunately has no power to make executive decisions. Once you sign their contract you will cease to exist. read more

We were moved from Raleigh NC to Clarence NY on May 15th by Excell Moving & Storage (Raleigh NC). We paid the full quote price with a cashier's check as requested before we were off-loaded. We were also advised within a few days that the weight we were quoted on was UNDER the quote price and we were due a REFUND after 30 days. SEVEN weeks later we are STILL WAITING. No one returns phone calls or e-mails and when we are fortunate enough to get a 'live' person, they blame the ALLIED CORPORATE offices as the one responsible. Whomever is responsible is is a mute point; no one either in the local office or corporate is responding. We would recommend you consider another carrier. And, get in writing the conditions and time frames for a refund if one is due. Once they had the check, communications ceased and no one seems to care. That is not typical of other companies with whom we've dealt. IF we move in the future, it will not be with Allied Van Lines. Good Luck. read more
