I would absolutely not recommend this company to anyone looking for windows. I had the most frustrating and lengthy experience. I had a salesman out for a quote in April 2022. I was told windows would be ready for installation in August. I also specifically inquired if my current blinds would fit over the new windows and was told yes. August came and went with no communication. On September 19th I emailed the office expressing concern my windows would not be done before winter and was told they'd be ready in October. I had to constantly call and email to get any sort of appointment on the books. On October 20th, the installers came. I was told it would be a one day job, done around 4:30/5:00pm. Around 3:00pm, one of the installers told me that they ran into 2 issues. 1 glass pane was cracked, so he taped it with duct tape, and 1 sash arrived with the wrong lock. Around 6:30pm, I had to leave and was told that they would have to come back that weekend to finish the rest of the windows. They had to come on the 22nd which was a day we were hosting a huge party and this was a huge hassle. After they finished, I was having issues with the windows latching. The office also said the 1 replacement sash was ready to be installed. On November 4th, they sent Santiago out to the house who, upon inspection, told me that 6 additional sashes had to be replaced. The windows in the kitchen and the bathroom were not locked properly when they were installed which caused them to be very difficult to open and close because they didn't settle properly. The office also had not communicated to him that he should be replacing anything that day. Keep in mind, Excel still had the audacity to send me an invoice during this and I told them I absolutely would not be paying one cent until the job was completed. On December 1st, I had still not heard anything about the 6 replacement sashes. I emailed Leo in the office and expressed my immense frustration that we were in the middle of winter and my windows were still not done. In addition, I had my handyman out to put the window treatments back up and he informed me that they are not able to be secured in the manner they are supposed to be due to the size of the windows. The brackets and screws do not fit. I was going on almost 6 weeks without blinds and now apparently need to find ones that fit these new windows. I also saw reviews online stating other people ran into the same issue where they were not told or told last minute they had to remove and replace the window treatments themselves. He was able to make some adjustments to put them back up, but again, that's more money out of my pocket. On December 7th, Santiago and Dave came out to the house to finally replace the 6 sashes but also discovered 3 of the screens already had holes and needed to be replaced. I found Dave to be condescending during the visit and I asked for a manager to call me. Julie was very kind and apologetic, and she did send me an Amazon gift card for the complications, but it did nothing to ease my frustration. I insisted on an inspection at completion because I did not have confidence in Excel at this point. You could see some sort of felt coming out of the top of one of the replacement windows and the lock mechanism did not align where it should. It would not lock, which I was uncomfortable with from a safety standpoint. I saw from reviews other people ran into this issue as well. My handyman, someone I have known for years and deeply trust, expressed concerns this evening about the quality of the work. The last week of January 2023, I received a call my screens were finally in and to call for an appointment. I called the main contact but did not hear back. The next day, I received a call from the office saying they were trying to schedule an appointment with me; I mentioned I had emailed Leo with no response and was told Leo no longer worked there. Ok, but how was I supposed to know that? Santiago came to install the new screens on January 24th and before he left, asked if I wanted to make final payment. I said that I wanted a final invoice from the office first. 2 hours later, I got a call from the office for final payment again. The next day, another call. I could not BELIEVE their nerve to be in such a rush to receive their final payment when I had to wait 9 months for this whole debacle to end. I am dismayed at how terribly this whole installation has been handled. Based on recent reviews, I see that other people are having the same issues I was including limited support from the office and zero communication unless I reached out first. Even though I have tried my hardest to confirm and follow up, I somehow still end up being told the wrong information. For the thousands and thousands of dollars I spent for such a huge home improvement project, I really wish I would have gone with another company. Had doors installed 2 years ago. Went with them as they were cheaper than some Other options we looked at but you get what you pay for. The install was not done properly. I had to have them back out a week later to fix something on one door and now 2 years later the other door is not even closing. We scheduled an appointment with one their representatives (Tony N.) and made it very clear that we were getting bids from a number of companies and were not prepared to make a decision at this time. After providing us with the estimate, the representative asked us to sign a number of forms and attempted to sneak in a contract for the window replacement. Despite the fact that we had made it very clear that we were not prepared to make a decision at that time - and he was fully aware of this - the representative replied, "Oh, I thought that we had agreement." Honest and professionalism are essential qualities for any business. It is clear that Excel Windows lack these qualities and I advise everyone to avoid doing business with them. read more

Great experience with my new front door system installation as part of our Chicago Bungalow restoration project. Installers Dave and Steve Jr. started right on time and did their expert install. Real craftsman! They were able to preserve my original 1928 inside trim, which is no small feat, but that's where experience pays off. Cleaned up well and hauled away the old system. Excel did our whole house of windows in 2007, and the windows still look and operate like new. We are very happy we used Excel once again (prices are competitive and very fair) and we always highly recommend them. read more

When we moved into our new house, we figured a bathroom remodel was ~5 years down the line. But the longer we lived here, the less feasible living in a poorly-designed bathroom became. Despite their name, Excel Windows came recommended by a neighbor for the remodel. They were on the higher end of estimates we received, but we ended up going with them for a number of reasons: 1. They were a completely comprehensive company - they handled the re-doing wet spaces, replacing flooring, adding a new can light above the shower, replacing the bathroom vent, ripping out a decorative tile wall and replacing with drywall, you name it! So we didn't have to project manage multiple contractors, which was important given we have two small children and both work FT. (They also stored materials until ready for work, so those weren't taking up space in our house.) 2. The bid was firm. They gave us a number and said "No matter what we find behind your walls, we will adhere to this number." Luckily we had no mold issues when we ripped out the bathtub, but I wasn't sure and I appreciated the 'we know bathrooms are a gamble and we promise to take care of this without adding $5K to your job' approach. 3. They worked with us on a wonky layout and custom pieces. We didn't want to move plumbing, so we needed a bathroom is small and serves two adults and two small children. We needed a custom vanity with a shallow depth to fit the space and provide storage. We also needed a narrow tub to fit our enclosure, and I wanted higher tub walls to make the bathtub useful for children AND adults. Excel came through. They also built us a custom mirror to match the vanity. The vanity/mirror combo used to be my least favorite thing about the bathroom - now it's my absolute favorite! (They also built a custom medicine cabinet for over the tub for bonus storage!) 4. They listened to our concerns: we didn't care for fancy aesthetics, but we wanted a bathroom that would withstand constant use by four people, include two small boys - one still being potty trained. For ease of cleaning and to stand up to bath time , we wanted a bathtub and separate a shower surround - not tile. (Excel had no problem with this while other contractors wanted to steer us back toward tile.) Also, the previous floor tile was coming loose due to super-thick grout lines; the workers listened when I said I wanted them as narrow as reasonable with the new floor tile. I felt our concerns, no matter how nit-picky, were taken seriously. Tyler was the initial salesperson/designer we worked with, Jon was the contractor who did the initial walk through and gave the timing estimate, and Erick was our onsite contact. I live in a condo where 14 of the 34 owners recently had their windows replaced. Windows that were originally installed when the building was built in 1969. From our sales person, Jim, to our scheduler, Leo, to the installers, Bruce and Joe, the entire process was pain free! Everyone I dealt with regularly to the few I've spoken to in the office were completely professional and very kind! The whole process was easy. They offered quality materials at a reasonable price. They were upfront about issues affected due to supply chain, however they were able to start and complete the work much sooner than they had worried, so there ended up being no issue there at all because they worked hard to fix those issues on their end, and we're successful. Our experience with Excel Windows and doors was horrible. We ordered the door in June of 2020 and the door was finally put in January of 2021, yes 2021. The wrong door was ordered the handle was on the wrong side. The installer had to waste a trip over and we had to reorder a new door. One of the installers said there are only two boxes to check and the wrong one was checked. Once the second door came they had the wrong door jambs so again the installer had to waste another trip and the door was not installed. I was calling once a week to Leo and he said someone would be calling back and of course this was not true. After time went by I finally told them I wanted to cancel my order and they said I could not because I signed a contract, I get it but 7 months for a door come on. Topping on the cake I received a call to pay my balance in full and I did not even get my door until months later. The installer was awesome and did a great job putting the door in but that is the only thing that went well with my experience and I do not recommend using Excel to anyone unless you want to wait 7 months for one door to be installed. read more

I scheduled a window estimate online on 6/5/21. The estimate was supposed to happen on 6/12/21 at 10am. Kelly from Excel called me the following day and left a message asking me to call her back. I called her back two days later and left a message. I never received a return call from Kelly. On the appointment day nobody showed up, nor did I receive a call. If Excel can't show up for an estimate, there's no way I would trust them to install windows. I do not recommend Excel. read more

As a teacher, I hoped to get the replacement of 6 windows in my condominium done over the summer. The first week school was out, I booked 6 places to get quotes. I decided to go with Excel windows after my meeting with Brian because there was an emphasis on quality service and there were no negative reviews available online. I booked on the spot and cancelled the other two quotes I had coming the following days. My contract was signed May 29th, and I was told the project would be done typically in 6-8 weeks but due to the summer it would possibly be 10 weeks. I had 11 weeks left so I felt comfortable in not having to take off work unnecessarily. A week later they sent the person to do measurements for the windows. July 16th I contacted Brian to see if there was any update as I hadn't heard anything, I never got a response from him. The following day however, I got an email from the General Manager Julie, stating that the windows were in manufacturing process and due to weather they are a little behind but to feel free to contact her. On July 26th, I contacted her to get any update I could, as I was hoping to have the project done by August 13th. She explained that the windows were still in manufacturing but if I called her Tuesday she should have a better update. When I called Tuesday, she was on a call, so I left a message and got no response. I called Wednesday, August 1st, and spoke to her. Her immediate comment was that she told the sales manager (no name given) to call me Tuesday, and asked if he had not. I noted that he didn't, and that I had left a message with her as well. She asked if the number I was calling from would be best to reach me in 2 minutes while she goes to get him, I said yes. He never called. I called Thursday, now irritated by having to continue to call them while in the 9th week of this job. I was transferred to Steve, the Director of Operations. Steve informed me that he was not sure why no one had told me and that he hated to bring bad news, but that Excel could not do the job because this was a commercial property and they are not insured for commercial properties. I explained to Steve how infuriating this was, as I had never been made aware, and had been contacting the company for 2 weeks while being told they were in the manufacturing process. Additionally, Excel had opened a credit line for the job despite them not being able to perform the work. After complaining about this service, Steve offered to come reassess the job and try to work things out. Steve came out the 2nd of August, and after some discussion, Excel said they would do the job as promised, and put a rush order on the work, as well as a Saturday installation so that I would not need to take off work. I gave the contact information for them to get the approval. After waiting three weeks, I contacted my association and they approved the job on that day, and sent the approval to Excel (August 28th). I was not contacted by anyone from Excel, so I contacted Steve September 4th, and he said he would check the status for me. I also asked if they would be doing anything about the initial price, as I had been doing all of the communication for the job, and had waited far over the initial job, to which Steve said he would definitely look into what they could do price wise. Steve did not get back to me, so I tried calling him September 10th (now 15 weeks into the job). He returned my call and told me the windows are scheduled to be coming in that following Monday (September 17th). I was not contacted that week of September 17th, so once again reached out on Friday September 21st to ask if there was any update. Steve called me and told me that the production team should be calling me either Saturday or Monday. I contacted Steve Tuesday at 12:22pm explaining that I was trying to be patient but hadn't heard from the production team, and at this point it had been a full 17 weeks since my contract was signed. Steve told me he would manage setting things up himself, and text me Thursday 27th to set up installation for October 6th. I approved, and asked if they had finalized a price yet, with no response. Wednesday, October 3rd, I asked if I should post a sign for other residents to be aware that the main entrance would be closed off, and if a price had been put together. He said he would try to get more done with the price and discuss with me on Saturday. The installation team showed up a bit late, but not drastically. They spent a total of about 9 hours doing the windows. On Sunday, Steve asked how things went, and I said they look great. He told me he would have a final price together Monday. Monday morning, I woke up to the window company at my window (three stories up), while I was lying in bed undressed. The curtains were closed of one set of windows that look over my bed, but the other window curtains were open, and I had no idea that they were coming back, or why they were back. This is how you should run a business! A few months ago, we had way too many windows replaced. Eighteen windows! No, they weren't out of style or anything like that, they LEAKED WATER. When we first moved in to our 1st single family 7 years ago, we thought it was just the clogged gutter causing problems. We should have SUED our previous owner! It turns out the clogged gutter just make the *windows with totally failed seals* worse! At first we laid towels on the problem windows before we left the house. Usually, we were fine. But then we noticed wall damage right below our 2 worst problem windows upstairs. We repaired the wall and the same damage reoccurred (Looking back that was not that bright without figuring out the cause first, I know). After the new windows were installed, I joint compounded the damage and it looks beautiful. No further issues. Excel told us they thought the water was leaking around the window capping and coming in and damaging our one wall without us even knowing it. (Whereas Lowe's told us we needed new gutters, windows, and was trying to get us to look into siding too. Anything ELSE?!) Every time it rained, we had to stay home or if we were out, we worried about what was happening at home. This is not the way to live! At first we thought it was a simple fix so we bought some weatherstripping and installed it on our difficult-to-use-on-a-good-day awning windows (picture window on the top 2/3rds and crank out awning on the bottom 1/3rd). Not only did these windows leak water they gave horrible air-flow as well. The weatherstripping helped but they still leaked. We then tried caulking all the windows that we could reach on our 2 story home. Water still seemed to get through. It was so nerve-wracking. We'd wake up in the middle of the night after the slightest rain drop and our heart would race. We'd think "Where are the towels?" My son got scared every time it rained. I can't lie, so did I. I gave up the day my husband was in the hospital with a life-threatening condition after collapsing and I was at home with my son at 11pm at night manning the towels on multiple windows. Then the power went out! I had a flash light and could barely see where the water was coming in. That was the final straw! I checked out Lowe's and was very upset with their quality of Pella windows. Plus they gave us a loosey goosey price and didn't even know if we needed a permit. I was about to drive to who-knows-where to check out someone else's windows when it wouldn't show up on the GPS. I thought "this is a sign". Then it dawned on me to check locally and I remember seeing a bench ad for Excel. Once arriving at Excel, I was greeted and instantly liked the show room. After meeting Tony and hearing how knowledgeable he was, I knew this WAS the place! Even when he said about $450/window installed for vinyl replacement, I knew this was the best place we were going to find for money vs. quality. I'm hazy on the details but they measured after we signed the contract and it took about 3 weeks to get the windows in. Then about a week later, I believe they were installed and it took about 3 days for installation. These were some of the most hard working installers I've ever met. They were sweating bullets and barely took a break. They worked long days. We were satisfied. We are happy that if our screen has a tear, they will replace a reasonable number for free. We were happy with the quick call backs and the professional secretary. NO HIDDEN FEES on the final bill. What they said it would be, it was! We had no lead in our walls and he gave us 3 free rotten wood replacements, we didn't have 1! Everything was measured perfectly and we were very happy to know that they solved another mystery: all the windows had failed seals & the exterior old window capping was installed backwards meaning water could leak in easily. They fixed this and caulked the exterior with silicone caulk BEAUTIFULLY. The only room for improvement would be: --we had only 1 pine window trim replaced and I would say the woodworking was a "B" grade installation. It doesn't line up perfectly. --Cleanup could have been better. One old window broke on the 2nd floor trying to remove it. Of course in my child's room. I still found glass once they left. There was glass on the roof and patio below, along with nails/screws and other little bits. Besides glass, it was just ok cleanup. They worked so hard otherwise. Believe it or not, I have 21 windows in my home PLUS 4 in the basement. If any of those windows need replacing, I will look up Excel again! Now that winter's here, we feel warmer and we hear much less outside noise than we used it. Nothing's perfect, but what an improvement! My family feels protected now & my son is still coming down from being paranoid about the rain. I wish we did it sooner. These windows were excellent $ spent in a bad economy where we can't move easily. read more

I loved the process from beginning to end and such a great deal. Ray worked with us to replace our 40 year old windows and he was very clear. There were no hidden costs. We replaced 18 windows and they did all of the work in 2 work days. Ray knew I was expecting a baby and wanted the windows in before the baby arrived and they were installed right on time. I don't give many 5 star reviews. Most places leave room for improvement. Shockingly, I had a completely perfect experience with Excel from start to finish and will be recommending them to everyone. I also will go straight to them for our windows when the time comes. We had our front and back doors replaced. We received quotes from 5 different companies and Excel was middle of the road in terms of cost, but blew the competitors out of the water in professionalism and quality. From the very first call they were on top of our details and needs. They were kind, followed up, and forgot nothing. The salesman was not rushed and knew his products well. He didn't badmouth other companies, just simply explained why he was confident in his. He followed up twice between the order and delivery to let us know things were still on schedule which I so appreciated. The installer did an A+ job. Our doors look amazing and we've received so many compliments already. They cleaned up their mess, including vacuuming our floors from the dust and brushing off the driveway. They exceeded my expectations and although this purchase was quite expensive, I feel like it was a good value. read more

We had 7 windows and 2 glass doors installed. Their windows were wonderful. The installers were efficient and professional. However, they do not make clear that the windows come unfinished and that you have to hire a painter to stain the windows, which should be done before the windows are installed, not after. Because of this omission, the cost of the windows went up by $1,300.00 and we will have been without window coverings for 3 weeks. It's been living in a fish bowl. read more

I did not like that I ordered the windows in September and they were not installed until March. Although we were told the windows would be installed in November. Understandably so, due to Covid-19, many appointments were delayed, but Leo did not attempt to demonstrate any good customer service skills. Nonetheless, he seemed irritated when I called to confirm, and to inquire about a new roof installation. After careful consideration we will not request any further services from the company, nor will we refer this company to anyone. Matt was very responsive to my inquiries and worked with me on all the scheduling coordination with other vendors. When we replaced our rooftop doors, we were also replacing the roof. We when replaced the front door, we were also replacing our intercom system. When we're ready to replace the windows, we'll definitely look to Matt and Excel! But don't think because of the price, the service can't be that great...this is where Red & his crew come in...there were 4 guys & they worked so well together. Honestly, we were pretty sure we were going to go with another company for windows until Ray showed up. He also requested we come to the shop to see the actual windows and not just the demos. We replaced our windows in 3 phases: 1. Front Room (5 Casements) 2. Upstairs Bedrooms (6 double hung windows) 3. Kitchen and downstairs windows (4 windows) We used another company for the casements only because of the color selection at the time. The rest of the house was done with Excel and what a great job they did. Arrived promptly, worked fast and efficiently, and cleaned up perfectly afterwards. Trim work was stained by a painter they use and worked out great. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Ray and Excel. Our experience with Excel has been outstanding! Our house had significant damage due to the Memorial Day storm and we've had a lot of contractors coming and going since we've had to redo our entire exterior. Excel was who we settled on for window replacement and other service items. It was an easy decision. From my first interaction with Steve, to having Dominick come out and measure, to dealing with Leo in the office, I have been blown away by their responsiveness, timeliness, courtesy and overall professionalism. The installers Juan and Salvador exceeded our expectations due to their knowledge, honesty and extreme attention to detail. When they were done my husband and I joked that they must have done some landscaping for us since their cleanup left our property in immaculate condition. We also had some minor repair work done and Santiago was extremely fast, talented and an overall great guy. Due to our phenomenal experience we plan to use Excel to replace our other windows. Not worth it. This company has no regard for your personal time. Scheduled my first appt for 6pm. I received a call at 5pm saying the estimator wasn't able to make the appt. At least they called ahead but since I have to drive 30 mins to get to the residence, it didn't do me any good as I had already made the trip. I agreed to reschedule because they did try to notify me, even if it was only by one hour. I was assured this would not happen again. A new appt was scheduled. I received a courtesy call the day before and the morning of the appt. By 6pm I was on site for the scheduled appt. but again, Matt did not arrive. My time is worth much more than this company feels that it is. I received a call later in the evening, 2 hrs after the scheduled appt time, Matt telling me he finished his last appt and could come by. Well Matt, I don't plan on driving 30 mins to work around your schedule. Thanks, but no thanks!! I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

We replaced 16 windows, one was a picture window, and a sliding glass door. We got white vinyl windows and a white vinyl sliding glass door, and the windows and door are great, they all open/close with one hand. The installers were professional and pleasant, and the installation was great. The had to replace some window frames and do some trim work on the inside of the house in a couple of places and everything looks great. Would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone. read more

We had an amazing experience with Excel. We recently replaced 5 windows in our house. We got four quotes and they were equal to the lowest quote but had a superior product. Last week we had Juan T and Salvador come to install the windows and I cannot say enough about how happy we are with them. They were professional and went above and beyond. When installing the windows a little bit of paint around the window frame got taken off. They even asked for paint to repaint that area before leaving. They vacuumed and left our house looking better than it did before they came. The windows are beautiful and they way they install them looks amazing. They noticed a tiny rip in the screen and informed me of it and already ordered the replacement even before showing me. It's so small I never would have even noticed. They really take pride in their work and it shows. We will be using them for every window and door we replace in our home and would recommend them to anyone. read more

The windows seem fine but the price does not include a few things other window replacement companies do. There is no inside trim around the windows and they do not take down/put back up window treatments which causes me to have to schedule several appointments and adds cost if you cannot do it yourself. Worst part is they did not make it clear that they did not handle the window treatments until I was going to schedule my installation which will push back the installation date. Will never use them again as there are too many other companies that will do the entire job instead of having to piece it together. Why go through all that hassle. read more

I had a terrible experience from start to finish with having all the windows and patio doors replaced in my condo. It took 1 year and 8 months before the work was completed and that was because I threatened to bring a lawsuit. I continually received damaged patio doors, that took over 8 weeks each time to receive, which then would be another few weeks for the installation appointment only to be disappointed at the doors being damaged. I also dealt with multiple last minute cancelled appointments, I was lied to and all the departments were quick to blame each other for these problems instead of dealing with them. I had two windows that began leaking water through the trim a few months after they were installed because they were not properly done the first time. I also had to follow up with the sales person Jim multiple times before he finally sent my aunt the gift card that she was promised for referring me to them. I don't do many reviews but decided to for Excel so that people are aware of how bad of a job this company did and the low integrity the employees have. It cost me a lot of money and aggravation for this home project, and if I knew then what I know now, I would never have went with them. They have also lost their good reputation with my family. Multiple family members of mine have used them in the past and they are all disappointed with what I had to go through for new windows and doors. read more
