Word of mouth in the Whitestone (Queens) area suggested that Excellent Air had an "excellent" reputation for service and value. As a former Queens resident, now living in DC, and renovating our family's home, my sister and I both spoke to Glenn. Gregg knew the area/the locale of the house, having worked on old systems and installing new HVAC systems on many similar houses in the development, Bayside Village. Though the original contractor did sub-par duct work, Glenn installed two new HVAC systems that were customized for the house and its apartment. Glenn's and his team were informative, in touch when it was necessary to order equipment and then to install it; provided a project outlook as to the number of days from beginning to end--all of which allowed us to continue with other aspects of the renovation having nothing to do with his team while his team and yet his team was able to efficiently work inside the house while other aspects of the renovation took place. Glenn helped me to decide on the possible systems that were available for our particular house, suggested a hybrid system that saved some bucks, and so his knowledge and familiarity impressed me, making it easy for me to go ahead with one of his suggested HVAC systems. My parents are 86 years old and their central a/c would not cool - the outside machine wouldn't turn on. Called Glenn late on a Friday of Memorial Day weekend. He called early on Saturday and fit them into his schedule. He immediately found the cause and did not charge a "holiday" tax. Prices were reasonable as long as he did the work. Based on my experience with this company, I would recommend them. The owner was courteous when I call and asked if they do service calls. I was given an approximate time of arrival and when the technician was on the way I was informed that the tech will arrive in 20 minutes. The tech diagnosed my problem and it was resolved. The payment was made by check. The only recommendation I would is that the tech leaves a business card or place a sticker with the contact information on my boiler. Worst customer service I've had! I called today, a woman rep picked up and her first question was "AREN'T YOU THE GUY WHO CALLED ME THREE TIMES ALREADY?" I EXPLAINED TO HER POLITELY NO I'M NOT, I never called this company before. She continued to press me on this, interrupting every question I have and aggressively stating I'm the same guy who called her before. At one point she started yelling at me because I asked for a rough estimate on the work. By this point I just lost it, I asked her for her name, she refused to give it, then she said screamed "WHO YOU GONNA COMPLAIN TO? I'M THE OWNER" and continued yelling until she had finished taking out all her day's frustration on an unsuspecting customer. She then hung up. I looked up the company information and it turns out the actual owner is Glenn H. The owner claimed, he has A+ rating on Better business bureau. I highly suspect this rating and even if it is then I am doubtful is to be the same in the future with the kind of service I encountered today. I've used them several times now, most recently to change out my central air from the old R22 unit to the newer R410A system. The old unit was on its last legs. They have been consistently quick to come and evaluate the problems, get me up and running as soon as possible, and with this big job were fast and professional. The motor of my heating system was not working and I was told that they have motors in their truck when I first scheduled the appointment. The person who came told me that he doesn't have the part, but they will order it and get back to me. They charged me $140 for the initial visit , but didn't call me back ever since. I would have to track them down to get an answer and was told that they didn't want to do the job but refused to return the money. If they are the one who turned down the job for whatever reason, they should not charge their customers for the initial visit. In comparison, I hired another contractor (R&Z) who didn't charge any fees until they fixed the problem. Very disappointed in how they handled this. read more

Worst business I ever chose to work with. Called them in to check on a heating problem I had not too long ago. I have a central AC/HEAT unit in my house, when I called the air conditioning aspect was working just fine just the heating needed some assistance. Fast forward too today AC doesnt work doesnt even turn on! Called the company they want to charge me $130 to come in and access the problem. Why should I be responsible for this inspection fee when obviously before they came in to work on the system my AC was fine they came in to work on it, AC no longer works! Called to see if they can assist me, employee says I dont care not going there to check it for free in such a nasty tone. I needed to get my heater inspected for home insurance. Happened to see a truck in the neighborhood so I called, spoke with Glen. He was really nice, and explained everything in detail, including the cost, and I could tell he was being honest and not trying to "sell me" on anything. Set up an appointment for the next day. He even called me next day to tell me exactly when they were coming. He and his people did a thorough inspection, and gave us everything we needed for insurance, it cost exactly what he said it would, no hidden fees or bs.
